I love olives, but this pie had way too many for my liking and I'm still unsure how I feel about the crust, but otherwise it tasted pretty good. Summary: I only did a call-in, carryout order but it was a quick & pleasant experience. (Seriously, have you had Maxxo'x on fairmont? That place's service is a nightmare.) Run down: I had coupon in the mail & finally caved in to try this place. I've wanted to try it but nervous because I wasn't familiar with the area. I've always heard good things about Spanky's. Had to try it for myself. Glad I did! I called, some one answered & took my order within 2 rings. She answered my questions & took my order. She said it would be ready in 20 mins. I got there in 25 & it was ready! I was greeted upon entry. No wait at the register. It was clean & inviting for the most part. I wasn't inside long. As a test, I ordered a plain cheese with stuffed crust & some buffalo tenders. It came with crinkle fries. It was good af! The pizza was hot. I loved the stuffed crust. I had to be sure they wouldn't mess up a simple order before I go full in on a new place in this economy. Well worth the extra cost. Buffalo sauce wasn't too salty. Tenders were juicy, lightly fried. We chose the Pasadena location to celebrate a family birthday with a large group because we called ahead that morning to make sure they could accommodate us. We specifically explained that we would have around 25 people, and the manager we spoke with assured us it would not be a problem. We were simply asked to have someone arrive early so they could begin setting up the tables. I arrived an hour before everyone else, just as instructed, and let the manager, Ebony, know that our final count would be 28 people. Instead of honoring what we had been told over the phone, she immediately informed me that they would not set up any tables until every single person in our party had arrived. This made no sense, especially since the restaurant was not busy and there were plenty of open tables. Once every member of our party finally arrived, we were seated. Because we had three additional guests, we placed them at an empty table directly next to our group. Instead of trying to accommodate us or make the celebration enjoyable, Ebony came over once again with an argumentative attitude, reminding us that we had originally said 25 people and insisting that we clear the extra table. Throughout the entire experience, Ebony's attitude was rude, confrontational, and completely lacking in customer service. Rather than welcoming a large party that came ready to celebrate and spend money at the restaurant, she seemed determined to make the experience as difficult as possible. There was no flexibility, no attempt to find a solution, and certainly no hospitality. Our servers were wonderful. Once we were finally seated, they were attentive, friendly, and did an excellent job taking care of our group. They deserve recognition for their professionalism. Unfortunately, because of the way Ebony treated our family, we will not be returning to this location. A manager sets the tone for the entire restaurant, and in this case, the experience was overshadowed by poor leadership and an unfriendly attitude. We hope management addresses these customer service issues because no family celebrating a special occasion should be made to feel like an inconvenience. read more

I'll start by admitting that I'm a pizza snob. That's not to say that I don't care for chain restaurants or even something from the grocer's freezer on occasion. This place produces a decent pizza in a fun atmosphere with good service. We tried the NY Style and Thin versions. A NY crust is supposed to be slightly crisp and foldable. The version here was more like the standard national chain -- a little on the thick side with no discernable crisp. On its own, it's OK. But don't call it New York Style when it's really Papa John's style. The thin version is more accurate ... a cracker crust that resembles a bar pie. A well-executed cracker crust brings the crunch (i.e., Marco's and thousands of bars out there). This place, not so much. I think this will be better warmed up in the toaster oven later today. -- The sauce here is bland, but the cheese and pepperoni are quality. Further, both pies were served right out of the oven and arrived scorching hot. That's a good thing. I waxed nostalgic and ordered fried mushrooms. These came straight from a bag that was likely bought from Sysco., and that's OK. The chips and queso, which are also fine, were delivered to the table because I happened to mention that we were first-timers at Spanky's. I realized, before coming here, that Spanky's is a Houston institution. While the service, atmosphere and prices are all outstanding, the pizza is not memorable. Perhaps I just don't get it. Got different variations, all were super tasty! Ordered 1/2 mushroom 1/2 cheese large, ordered pepperoni and jalapeño, pepperoni pizza. Wings were super tasty, big wings, sauce is rich not too hot but very flavorful. Kids spaghetti was so good...no complaints from the kiddos today! Ordered the fried pickles & fried mushrooms...batter is perfect, light, crispy. Both served with ranch dressing. We also ordered a side salad...very fresh, ranch is always so good. I have frequented this restaurant for 30 years. Originally the location on Gulf freeway. We ordered a pepperoni passion for pickup this weekend. This is a $30 pizza. Well, got home and this pizza had almost no sauce, hardly any pepperoni and hardly any cheese. We honestly could have gotten a better frozen pizza from the grocery store. I, myself, felt slighted enough to give this review, I will normally just give my money elsewhere and not give a negative review. I regret not taking a picture to post. This is my second time visit in Spanky's but the first time at this location. I first went to the location of telephone Road about 10 years ago. This location seems a lot newer. So I assume this location is probably the second location. Food: I went with their thin crust lunch pizza with three toppings. It was absolutely amazing. My girl went with the wings and they were just as good. It's funny because I haven't been to Spanky's in 10 years but I remember exactly how the wings tasted and talk about quality control because the wings tasted exactly the same. They were absolutely amazing. They are also very large. Huge wings. Full of flavor and very tasty. I would definitely come back here again and try more of their food. If I lived near the south side I would probably visit this location a lot more but I'm deep in the northwest so it's kind of hard to make it out there. I will definitely come back soon. This time I tried something new and was disappointed. The buffalo chicken sandwich was not a filet, it was two chicken tenders which made it a messy pain in the butt to eat with the tenders falling out or trying to take a bite and the tender slip and your bite is all bread. The tenders were also so over cooked I choked on a piece and pulled out a long sliver stuck in my throat. The tomato on it was also disappointing(pictured).
