As a test, I ordered a plain cheese with stuffed crust & some buffalo tenders. It came with crinkle fries. It was good af! The pizza was hot. I loved the stuffed crust. I had to be sure they wouldn't mess up a simple order before I go full in on a new place in this economy. Well worth the extra cost. Buffalo sauce wasn't too salty. Tenders were juicy, lightly fried. Good place for fellowship and food though service in a fairly empty dining room was slooooooow. A group of 12 co workers with a variety of tastes were easily accommodated but the kitchen struggled to get out food. It came out in shifts over 40 minutes. Checking out was also slow. Haven't been here for over 10 yrs. Brought my brother and his family. 6 of us and ordered a Limited time Hot Honey and a meat lovers large. Mom order a fettuccine alfredo pasta and loved it. I'll start by admitting that I'm a pizza snob. That's not to say that I don't care for chain restaurants or even something from the grocer's freezer on occasion. This place produces a decent pizza in a fun atmosphere with good service. We tried the NY Style and Thin versions. A NY crust is supposed to be slightly crisp and foldable. The version here was more like the standard national chain -- a little on the thick side with no discernable crisp. On its own, it's OK. But don't call it New York Style when it's really Papa John's style. The thin version is more accurate ... a cracker crust that resembles a bar pie. A well-executed cracker crust brings the crunch (i.e., Marco's and thousands of bars out there). This place, not so much. I think this will be better warmed up in the toaster oven later today. -- The sauce here is bland, but the cheese and pepperoni are quality. Further, both pies were served right out of the oven and arrived scorching hot. That's a good thing. I waxed nostalgic and ordered fried mushrooms. These came straight from a bag that was likely bought from Sysco., and that's OK. The chips and queso, which are also fine, were delivered to the table because I happened to mention that we were first-timers at Spanky's. I realized, before coming here, that Spanky's is a Houston institution. While the service, atmosphere and prices are all outstanding, the pizza is not memorable. Perhaps I just don't get it. Got different variations, all were super tasty! Ordered 1/2 mushroom 1/2 cheese large, ordered pepperoni and jalapeño, pepperoni pizza. Wings were super tasty, big wings, sauce is rich not too hot but very flavorful. Kids spaghetti was so good...no complaints from the kiddos today! Ordered the fried pickles & fried mushrooms...batter is perfect, light, crispy. Both served with ranch dressing. We also ordered a side salad...very fresh, ranch is always so good. I wanted to try the pizza but saw that they have other foods as well so I got both the chicken alfredo pizza and veggie lasagna. This is my second time visit in Spanky's but the first time at this location. I first went to the location of telephone Road about 10 years ago. This location seems a lot newer. So I assume this location is probably the second location. Food: I went with their thin crust lunch pizza with three toppings. It was absolutely amazing. My girl went with the wings and they were just as good. It's funny because I haven't been to Spanky's in 10 years but I remember exactly how the wings tasted and talk about quality control because the wings tasted exactly the same. They were absolutely amazing. They are also very large. Huge wings. Full of flavor and very tasty. I would definitely come back here again and try more of their food. If I lived near the south side I would probably visit this location a lot more but I'm deep in the northwest so it's kind of hard to make it out there. I will definitely come back soon. Ate there in May 10th at around 12:30. Found a metal screw nut in my pizza. Was told it fell from their cooling racks. They comped the pizza and apologized but, I still got charged the rest of the meal. They also didn't say anything like I hope this doesn't dissuade you from coming back. Service has never been great when we come(literally have never had a good service experience) but the wings and pizza are really good here, probably the best we've ever had. This time I tried something new and was disappointed. The buffalo chicken sandwich was not a filet, it was two chicken tenders which made it a messy pain in the butt to eat with the tenders falling out or trying to take a bite and the tender slip and your bite is all bread. The tenders were also so over cooked I choked on a piece and pulled out a long sliver stuck in my throat. The tomato on it was also disappointing(pictured).
