Just got my first massage ever and this was definitely the place to go. I got a hot stone massage and i left feeling so relaxed it was unbelievable. In the beginning you fill out a form to indicate the areas where you want to be targeted, any injuries or tension you have and any allergies. When yo first enter the room it's dim and relaxing with peaceful music. Every step I was asked if the pressure was alright and if the heated stones were good temperature. My legs, arms, back, and shoulders were all massaged. Only regret was not peeing before hand! read more

This review is simply regarding a facial, where I used a Groupon. I received no other services from Spalenza. The environment is very nice and the location is convenience (off route 1). The facial itself was adequate, but unimpressive. The reasons behind my low rating are as follows: 1) I signed up for a 60 min age-focused facial online. Francine decided to do a custom facial, which made sense once I pressed her afterward, but she never communicated it throughout, which left me constantly wondering what was going on and what I'd gotten. It wrapped up after about 45 minutes and I was confused. Her explanation made sense, but why not communicate before/during/after - proactively? When I inquired about the time at the front desk, I was told the website was wrong. I still don't know how much $ the facial would've been if not for the Groupon, but if this is a $95 facial, I can say with 100% confidence it is overpriced by 25%. 2) The esthetician wore jean shorts and a t shirt. Honestly, a lab coat doesn't make me think you're a doctor, so it's really not THAT concerning. But when a new client comes to your facility for the first time and you say nothing about what you're doing and NEVER validate along the way, you lose credibility - ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE DRESSED UNPROFESSIONALLY. To add to the credibility thing, when she asked where I go and why I was considering changing, I told her Elizabeth Grady. She wasn't familiar with that place and asked if it is a school. Honestly???? It's a chain and it's very well known. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if she turned up her nose and disparaged EG, as most spas do. I happen to go there because the woman who does my facials is AMAZZZZING and has reduced her schedule, making it too hard to book her on short notice. I wouldn't go to anyone else there, so I'm seeking a new spot. But with an estetician dressed like a college kid who has never heard of EG, it made me look on the walls for a license. That's not ideal. The bottom line is Francine does a nice job, but the professional packaging of the activity wasn't what I hoped for. I definitely feel like I got "the Groupon facial" - not something to get me excited about making this my new, go-to place. Note, they use Aveda products, making this place high-potential. read more

I'm growing my beard out for the first time, it's been a couple weeks, and it's needs some taming before the holidays. So I called this place, because I used to get my haircut here back when it was called the "Men's Spa at the Mansion". The receptions answered in kind of an annoyed voice (seriously?!) "Hello Spalenza" Me: "Hi, um, I was wondering if you guys do, like, um, not a beard trim really, but more like a shaping?" Her: "a beard trim?" (So, clearly not listening) Me: "Not exactly. I don't really know what it's called, but I need my neckline brought up. Cheek line brought down, y'know, just some upkeep." Her: "umm....I GUESS our barber can probably do something like that, if you ask him" (thanks for making me feel more stupid than I already felt) Me: "ok, do you have any appointments available this afternoon?" Her: "um, hang on" (puts phone down, I hear fumbling and paper rusting). Her: "Could you call back in like 5 mins? I'm in the middle of something and I need the computer for it" Me: "sure thing." Click. Scratched Spalenza off the list. What could possibly be more important than getting a new client in the door of your new business? Oh, and thanks for making me feel like the first person in the history of mankind to ever ask for a beard shaping and hot shave. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because I've been to that building and it's beautiful. read more

This place is amazing!! First of all-- it's not some retail location at a strip mall: it's a beautiful mansion with great views of the property. Every room of the historic house has tall ceilings, crown moldings, beautiful decor. You could spend an entire day going from room to room getting pampered and spoiled. And this place isn't just for the ladies-- there's a very masculine wing with an old school barber shop where you can get a trim and a shave. It looks like a proper men's lounge-- all wood and leather and a fireplace. But for us girls: almost any way that you can imagine being pampered is available: manis, pedis, hair salon, massage, waxing, and even a brand new floating tub which I can't wait to try. I found this place because my favorite esthetician moved from a smaller spa in Chestnut Hill, where I live, to work here. I now drive 30 minutes because I would follow Julianna to the end of the earth. Juliana has been taking care of my skin and doing my waxing for me for years. She is THE BEST! Only Julianna is allowed to touch my eyebrows. She is an artist. Plus, she somehow makes a Brazilian wax less daunting and I never get ingrowns because she educated me on how to take care of my post-waxed skin. She has taken care of emergency pimples for me on a moments notice and has taught me so much about how to care for my skin. She's not just the best esthetician I've ever had, she is also one of the smartest and most educated practitioner in her field that I have ever met. Bonus points-- she's also an absolute sweetheart. I'd be lost without her. Everyone who works at Spalenza is great (the owner is an amazing woman), but my skin and loyalty belong to Julianna. On top of that, Julianna is also a fantastic photographer. Because the mansion and the grounds at Spalenza are so gorgeous, she can do a photo shoot for you right there! So, you go to Spalenza, get beautified, and then get a great photo shoot all in one spot! Does it get better? Honestly-- I would live at Spalenza if I could. It is like the Barbie dream house of spas. I'm so glad I found this place. And yes-- for me, the main draw is Julianna-- but everyone who works there is top notch. Also, it's a unique, luxurious, immaculately clean place to spoil yourself, or your friends, rotten. You can even throw little beauty parties there. Spalenza is every girly girl's (and manly man's) dream. Go there. Treat yourself. Get gift certificates for your friends. And if you can book an appointment with Julianna, your experience will be above and beyond your expectations. Her facials are to die for! Extra bonus-- the prices at Spalenza are way more reasonable than spas in Chestnut Hill or Boston, but you get twice the luxury quotient. It's worth the drive out to Peabody. read more

Massage services are great. Building is gorgeous. Most of the staff is exceptional. Except for one. I am highly disappointed with my hair cut in this place. I went in run of the mill trim and some layers now that my previous haircut had grown out. I had a stylist named Joise. She didn't really listen that well and my hair ended up being uneven when in left even though I told her a few times. The next day I went an email and was contact by management to come back in and they will correct any issues. Great. Told the stylist I had prior was new... Okay forgiven, we all have to learn at some point. Made an appt for Saturday 04/23/16 @ 1030 with June. Went into Spalenza and was greeted and told sorry for the hassle and the issues. Was introduced to June. First words out of her mouth was you told me she had short hair. Well okay great to meet to you. Mind you I don't have long hair, it's only to just about my collar bone. So then she comes over and wants to touch my hair. Okay I take out of my pony and she's touching and pulling which is now grabbing onto my industrial piercing. So I move my head to the side. She goes keep your head straight. I go um my piercing. She looks at management and goes well I have somewhere to be by 1130. So now I have had enough. I go you know what this isn't working for me. She goes well I've been in the business for 37 years and you have too much hair to work with or something to the extent. Yes I have thick hair but never has that kind of statement been said to me. I believe the women at the front desk was Dana, but she steps in and says June stop....she walks away. I go to Dana I didn't need an attitude about her being in the business for 37 years. So June hears that and walks back out, now I guess trying to make this right and was going to talk to me. I couldn't even look at her. And yes that was rude of me but at this point I just couldn't deal with her. She's starts to walk away and I go bye. And then she turns around to start to say something else but she is stopped by Dana again. I get offered my money back and that's is all well in good. I have never been treated like that. 37 years in the business June and that's how you deal with a customer and talk to someone like that in front of two other people getting their hair done. These other two people were in an ear shot. 37 years and you can't handle thick hair 37 years and you can't not talk back to customer 37 years and you think you are a hair goddess 37 years is time for retirement since your a rude old lady. read more

Went to the new location on Newbury St the other day, I have to so it is absolutely astonishing. Service was fast, I only had to wait a couple moments for my appt. However while I was waiting , the owner sylvani who introduced herself so graciously to me, was speaking to her employees like they were the scum on the bottom of her shoe, as you could clearly see they were hustling and bustling around quickly performing their duties. Her employees continued to maintain composure with an upbeat attitude and friendly smile, for their sake I really hope they get out of there fast. Upon speaking to my friend who recommended I go there, she said it seems to be the norm for her to be mean to her employees very obviously. SO DISAPPOINTING!!!! At the same time, my 20-something daughter had her long, curly blonde hair washed, detangled, cut, shaped, colored, and highlighted (it took 4 hours) but her hair is again beautifully soft and silky and the color is great. I went to Spalenza late April 2016 with my cousin to get a massage treatment (after a hectic week!). They graciously accommodated my cousin and me at the same time and same room which we wanted so we can enjoy the massages together! The property is magnificent which added to my experience of being pampered - check out the back deck with the view of the lake. People are friendly, very responsive to my needs, and I highly recommend it. The only nicety I could of asked for was a steam room. They should definitely consider getting one because it was be amazing given the beauty of property and experience. Highly recommended - def. going back! read more

when i first started using spalenza's services i was very impressed - a beautiful facility, friendly estheticians. although the prices were higher than expected it seemed to be good value. over the two years i have seen a slow but steady decline. while the facility is still beautiful, there has been a HUGE turnover in staff with some of the better technicians now gone. their replacements are NOT of the same caliber. the beauty supplied are not replaced when they go bad. there is frankly very little attention to the DETAILS that make for a successful business. the rooms are cold and often not comfortable. the prices no longer reflect good value. i have opted to take my business elsewhere, and, if the owner does not change her business practices she has a limited future in spite of the superficial attractiveness of her space. read more

We went to SpaLenza 3-4 months ago for a couples massage and we loved our experience. They were attentive. There was cucumber water in glasses, cheese, crackers, and fruit. The massage was great. We tipped 20% to both masseuses(one being the owner). Recently, we went for another couple's massage and added the sauna to our pkg. We called ahead to confirmed our appointment. Upon arrival, the sauna was not ready. We didn't get water or snacks. The room didn't have towels and the music wasn't on in our room. The two visit was night and day. We enjoyed our massages and tipped 20% despite the lack of attention. We were going to buy some Aveda products and book another session but before we even bought the pkg with Silvane she walked away to assist another customer. I gave the spa my feedback and the only response was on my next visit I can get 20% off the service. I didn't give feedback for 20% discount. The purpose of going to a spa/get a couple's massage is to have a little R/R and get a little pampering. Although, Silvane states the spa is a new business, I suggested a checklist and training so everyone can enjoy their experience at the mansion on every visit because there's consistency in the service and treatment. My first visit. Spalenza is tricky to get to, you'll pass the exit quickly if you're not careful. The building is the old Saltonstall mansion just before you enter Puritan Lawn Cemetery. Parking is no trouble at all and the views of Suntaug Lake are overwhelming adding to the tranquility of the spa setting. Silvane and Roberta waxed my back, neck and underarms skillfully then gave me a haircut complete with a hot lather straight razor trim. You guys out there will know how great that tops off the haircut, but sadly barbers elsewhere these days just won't do it. The staff were all very cordial. The rooms were clean and large. I will definately be returning. This place is everything you would get from an expensive Boston spa but without the hassels of going into the city - and far cheaper too! read more

I had an Ashiatsu massage with Cheryl, which was fabulous. Though it seems strange to have someone walk on you, it's actually a really great experience (similar to a deep tissue massage). The location is really nice and though I only had a massage, the salon, nail section, and facial/waxing space seem really nice. There is also a separate men's section, which seems great for men that want a cut, shave, or pedicure without being surrounded by a ton of women. I would definitely recommend. read more

I have had hundreds of massages due to a chronic pain condition. I have now seen Francine twice for a deep tissue massage.
