I've gone to a few massage places in the area and had both good and not so good experiences, but this one was really great. I love the low lighting in the place. I don't know who would want a massage in bright light inside of a building! The massage itself was really different from a lot of the others I've had - hard to describe how, but I felt really good after. I even had a couple of flashes or "visions" while being massaged - just images of trees and a sunny meadow. The relaxed and revitalized feeling lasted a few days after the massage, which is not my usual experience - a lot of the time, I get tense again the next day. After this treatment at BodiScience, I still might get tense from work, but I was able to shift back into the relaxed mode quite easily. Courtney was great! read more

I have lived in MA since 2001 and have searched exhaustively for a nice day spa. Yesterday I may have found it here. It is hard to impress me since I lived for a long time in Denver and Phoenix, with access to world class destination spas. So, when I read the reviews on this site, I was hopeful - but did not want to elevate my hopes too much since I have been greatly disappointed by other area spas/glorified salons, before. I called and spoke with Dorothy, who greets customers with a warm voice oozing in empathy. I explained I had a really bad day and just needed a little pampering - and she had an opening for a massage. With the appointment made I ventured over to the office building. It was confusing to me because I had never been to the massive, mostly medical, complex...but Dorothy had explained I should go in by the New Horizon's Day Care center, which proved to be the best suggestion with an easily identified landmark. I was a little early so I indulged in a grilled cheese and tomato soup across the parking lot at the Gold Coast Cafe - it was EXACTLY what I needed...then into the door, just a few steps down the hall and into the inviting office/spa. I was a little concerned going in that the fact it was actually an office complex might distract me. Accustomed to "spas" on Newbury/Back Bay locations, or in settings which are seemingly more soothing - I wondered how a site probably best suited for a doctor's office would perform as a day spa. My concerns were immediately dispelled when Dorothy opened the first set of doors to reveal the space beyond. You are first greeted by a small chair massage area (not in use during my visit) and then four or more pedicure stations (three in use during my visit). The atmosphere was almost solemn, and the women in the chairs receiving treatments seemed to be in another world, without so much as a glance up to see me pass to the waiting room. I was given a form to complete and allowed to do so in a well appointed, cozy waiting room. The space was cozy but not claustrophobic as the suite had replaced the wall that was probably there prior with a glass panel, so someone waiting could see the activity beyond the room, but still relax in the low lighting and music of the lounge. Dorothy also brought me a "lavender collar" to help me reach a little more relaxation - which was a hot and slightly heavy "collar" with a heavy but not distracting scent of soothing lavender. My treatment began with a sample of aromatherapy scents; me choosing which we would use with my eyes closed...each corresponding to whatever my body needs...I chose the one which evidently signifies I am "in transition". The oil therefore should help to "balance and calm" me when added to the massage oil. My main complaint with other area spas, and in fact all spas - is noise. Here there is a reverence that I have never found even in five-star spas in Scottsdale. The staff speaks in a whisper - doors are closed with care not to make a sound, and carpet throughout assures that any footsteps are muffled. There are no passing conversations in the hallway to distract the patron from the service at hand. The massage itself was nurturing and fantastic. Not the deepest massage - which I think some practitioners equate with "good" but rather a nurturing treatment with attention to energy flow, pressure points and relaxation. If only I did not have to re-enter the world when it was over I could have remained in a state of bliss and overall body mushiness. Dressed and despising the thought of going into the world again, I was given a choice of herbal teas, allowed as much time as I wanted in the lounge to sip and complete my relaxation and then make my way to the front whenever I was ready - of course, I was never "ready" but I did eventually saunter up to pay and eventually leave. I have read here and in North Shore magazine that the facials are amazing, which I will try on another, better planned visit. I can say that I will be back. My only complaints, and they are very small - but it wouldn't be one of my reviews without them - are: If you have to go to the bathroom, it is a shock to your system - the entire space is in muted colors with low lighting - the bathroom is that of a doctor's office and kind of jolts you back to reality - I don't want reality - I want to stay in my cocoon. Also, the music is different in the massage room v. the outer rooms - and you can hear the conflict which is MILDLY distracting - it would be better if either the massage room music was louder to drown out the other music, or they were in sync. To my earlier point - I also wish the entry point/retail portion of the spa was also a little more muted in color and lighting - which I understand may be difficult to do with the standard lighting of an office park. Finally, I wish the chairs in the lounge reclined even slightly. Overall - fantastic. read more

Words can not begin to describe a facial or any body treatment at BodiScience, it really must be experienced. It goes without saying that I know my treatment will be pampering and luxurious as many spa treatments are, but it is truly the "experience" from how you are greeted when you step in the door, to feeling "special" and "cared for" through the entire 60 minutes or more. I had the most amazing experience today here at Bodiscience!! These women who work there are the perfect ladies to make you feel as relaxed and important as possible. Right when I stepped in the door, they greeted me with such a warm welcome and was in awe at how beautiful the place was. The massage itself was unreal, i got the full body as a giftcard for Christmas. These women truly know what they're doing! It is not like a regular chain massage place, here they practice holistic massages that get in touch with your inner body using oils and relaxing music. After my massage, which was incredible, they sent me to the "transition room" where they greeted me with a warm cup of tea and a nice heating neck pad. I really am feeling amazing right now!! The oils they suggest that you keep on your body for atleast 24 hours are extremely relaxing and rewarding. I am definitely giving this 5 stars and recommending it to everyone I know!!! A month or two ago I reached out to an esthetician friend due to a sudden flare up of skin issues. She recommended that I come in to see her for a facial at Bodiscience, and I am so very happy that I did. Upon arrival, I was greeted courteously by the front desk staff, who took my jacket, and directed me to the ladies room. After this, I was brought into a serene and calming waiting area where I was able to choose a place to sit and enjoy my quiet time while filling out some history forms and waiting for my therapist. My therapist Chanelle came in to greet me a few moments later with a beverage of ionic minerals and blueberry flavor for me to enjoy. This helped to enhance my mood and state of well being throughout my full spa visit. A short time later, I was brought into the room for my facial. The experience began with changing into the most comfortable robe I have ever put on. I am not exaggerating here---I have been to some incredibly expensive and luxurious spas over the years, but this robe takes the cake. I want one for at home! Then, I was treated to a soothing foot ritual, and had a short consultation with my therapist, followed by moving over to the table for my facial, which was out of this world. Honestly, throughout the entire experience, I was consistently told what was happening, and what would be happening next. I was pampered with warmth, massage, and wonderful smelling treatments, and I felt more calm and relaxed than I have in years. When it was all over I really didn't want to go home! Anyway, I want to share with you all that while my therapist was also a friend, what I felt was so amazing is that Chanelle was utterly professional during my entire visit to Bodiscience. She treated me like any other client, and I was able to separate myself entirely from our relationship outside the spa and allow her to pamper me, without any of the usual awkwardness I find when receiving spa treatments from friends/acquaintances. Chanelle truly has a knack for pampering people, and truly cares about her clients, and it shows. For my part, the only small bits of feedback I have, which kept me from rating this experience a 5 star, are that finding the spa, and the entryway are a bit off-putting. Obviously I realize that location isn't something that can be changed at the drop of the hat, but the first impression of the spa from the outside leaves a bit to be desired. Also, I found it a bit overwhelming to think through the skin care and health care products recommended by my therapist while in such a highly-soothed state. Maybe this is just me, and I don't have a suggestion for a better time to suggest products to clientele, but I had trouble thinking through what I may or may not want when I was so blissfully relaxed (and ready for a nap). All in all, I say that with a few small tweaks Bodiscience could be 5 stars in no time...and I like forward to monitoring the continued success on future visits. read more

I have been to Bodiscience as a client many times and have been treated wonderfully every time. I have received treatments by several members of the team. Although everyone on the team is superb and uses the same techniques, supplies and equipment, I do have my favorites... Chanelle and Dawn, as well as Miss Dorothy, who runs the front desk. On each visit, I have been pampered and treated like a most treasured guest. My favorite treatment is the Above and Beyond Signature facial, which is by far the best treatment I've ever had. In addition, I received multiple massage treatments to alleviate chronic pain in my back due to severe stress and ergonomic factors at work. I can't describe how much the advice and treatments provided by Dawn and Chanelle relieved my symptoms and helped me return to normal. I have visited this spa more than 20 times and have never heard anyone talk about anyone else during my visits. All conversation was professional and directed only toward learning my needs and preferences. I have found the entire staff to be nothing but completely professional and extremely talented, as well as dedicated to making my experience perfectly relaxing and therapeutic. I have received treatments in more well known and expensive spas, but have not enjoyed them as much as I enjoy those provided by the Bodiscience team. I will be back soon! read more

When I arrived at Bodiscience spa in August, I was very dissapointed with the service I recieved, and shocked at how rude the receptionist was. When I arrived at the spa, I talked to the receptionist (who, if memory serves me right, was named Dorothy) and I told her that I wanted a facial that concentrated on treating acne. She told me I was "too old" for that facial (I'm 20) and insisted on me getting a much more expensive facial. I only had $120 on me (half of which was on a gift certificate) and all the more expensive facials clearly were not geared towards the skin problems I had. I told her that I wanted extractions and something to help deal with my oily skin and that I only had $120 on me, but I think the only thing she heard was "I only have $120." After I said that, her interest in serving me considerably diminished. She booked me for a facial that was not at all what I asked for. There was no extractions or attention paid to my oily skin. I left the salon with worse skin than I had entered it. As I waited in the reception room, I was forced to overhear the receptionist talk on the phone about a bunch of gossip. I hope that she was gossiping about people from her own life instead of her clients, but either way, when someone wants to spend a lot of money to have a relaxing day at a spa, they don't want to hear someone gossiping about another person's personal troubles. I felt very bad for whoever she was talking about. The facial itself was relaxing, but only because of the music they played and the dark atmosphere. I don't even know what the woman did to my face but it wasn't even anywhere close to what I asked for. To make things worse, when I went to pay, Dorothy kept repeating over and over again "you know, you can pay a tip by a credit card!" I hadn't even paid yet, and the facial was a little less than $100 and I clearly had enough money to pay for a tip - why was she suggesting that I should use my credit card?! I am VERY ashamed to say that I was bullied into giving a very good tip (but NOT by credit card), even though I SHOULD have given no tip at all for the terrible service. My guess is that they looked at me, a 20-yr-old girl with a gift certificate and a little bit of cash, and thought, "This is a one-time customer" and they felt like they didn't have to give me decent service. Well, they were wrong! My mother and I recently moved here and were looking for a good salon, and when I told her about the service I recieved, she told me I should go on here and write a review. No one deserves to be treated in this degrading matter, especially if they are paying money to have a relaxing, therapeutic spa experience. I wish I wrote this review right after I recieved my service in August because I am sure I would have been able to provide more details as to how terrible this salon was. If you want to get decent service, at least pay a decent price instead of getting terrible service and a rude attitude for a very high price! read more

All of the staff here really go "above and beyond" as is the name for their signature treatments. The Above and Beyond treatments are a little more pricey than the runnof the mill facials, pedicures, manicures, but all are well worth it! Time is taken to pamper the body and spirit. Product selections are meticulously researched and chosen for specific purposes (Gehwol foot creams and powders, Caren Wellness hand lotions, and Spa Ritual Nail Polishes) to expose the body to the best nourishment possible and avoid introducing toxins. I came to Bodiscience regularly for a while, but recently I've concluded that the prices are better suited to a once-in-a-while splurge rather than regular maintenance. The atmosphere and decor are thoroughly relaxing and feng shui. Dawn, the owner, has an amazing quality about her that immediately puts you at ease. Make an appointment with her if possible. One of the other practitioners had a more abrasive attitude, and in my treatments she would up-sell and try to convince me to have more/different treatments. Her methods was more condescending than I would have liked. For instance, during a waxing treatment, she looked at my nails and told me I needed a manicure--badly--which, personally, I don't think I do, nor do I care. Somehow that seed of doubt was planted, though, and I made an appointment for a manicure. I wasn't quite satisfied with her shaping job, and the paint was chipping off before the week was out. Anyway, that's my one negative anecdote. Don't let it scare you off, but I would recommend one of their other treatments. read more

I usually reserve my messages for vacations, but I have found this great Spa in Beverly. My wife gave me a gift card, and I was wow'd by the staff, the attention to your health is something I have not see at most "run of the mill" spa's. These guys do a great job of focusing on your health, and not just providing a simple message. I would recommend this spa to anyone looking for some great relaxation after the stress of a long work week. Although this spa is in a high traffic area, I find that going on the weekend allows you much more relaxation. I can't say enough about the staff and their attention to detail. read more

Once you have managed to locate Bodiscience within the bowels of the Cummings Center office complex (not an easy feat, I might add), it looks lovely, and the receptionist is friendly. But don't be fooled. I went for a simple 1/2 leg wax, and first I had to fill out an intrusive questionnaire about my medical history and prescription medications and sign a waiver. This gives one the sense that they are highly sensitive to possible legal action, which does not inspire confidence. When I laid face down on the table, I saw that hairs and smudges of product were embedded in the fabric covering of the table, from who knows how many previous hair removals? During my wax, I was subjected to a hard-sell sales pitch for other services. Rather than the usual spa/salon small talk ("So, have you gone anywhere fun this summer?"), instead the aesthetician immediately started asking me when was my last facial or massage? When I told her that I didn't get facials or massages, she asked me why not, and then proceeded to explain to me in detail how important it was that I do both, giving a lecture about the services offered at the spa and detailed explanations of what they do, while I lay there on the table, a captive and unwilling audience. I have no complaints about her skill; the wax job was thorough and well executed. But it had damn well better be, since I had to pay $55.00 for it. The website says "$40-$55" for a lower leg wax... but don't think you're gonna get anything but the highest price. I have very fine hair and the waxing itself took 20 minutes at most. If I didn't get the $40 rate, I'm betting no one does. Since they made me give them my credit card number just to hold the appointment, I hope they followed my explicit instructions to remove it from their database, because I will NOT be going back. read more

So I just read Jenn's review and I could not have written it better! This place is unprofessional and the staff is catty. You can feel it while you are there. Going "spa hopping" is what I do and I've been to the best and the worst...... Bodiscience is the WORST! Not only is it through the roof expensive, they just just measure up. After our treatments were over my friend and I exchanged thoughts on out experience. The sheets on my table were not so soft and very stained, hers were very soft and "perfect" she said. We later found out the owner (whom she had her treatment with) uses different sheets that the employees!!!! Who does that?! The product they use is nice and smelled good but it was rationed out so it was barely noticeable on my skin. I had visited Bodiscience for many services in the past. I had an appointment booked for a double service (massage and facial). My son ( age 2) became sick and I had to cancel within 24 hours (I did cancel the day before). I had been a loyal customer to this point with out any previous cancellations. I was charged a 50% cancellation fee. I spoke with the owner to dispute this charge given my history as a repeat customer. I was lectured about the use of milk products in children as she believes this to cause ear infections. Rude, poor customer service. No, thank-you! read more

Ok, well, this is my all-time favorite day spa! If I had enough money, it would be my second home! They are beyond helpful and knowledgeable to down-right amazing! They are caring and sweet. I used to go there more often when I had a car/not living in Back Bay. If you want to be totally relaxed and pampered, you need to have a treatment here. From the moment I walked through the door to the minute I left, I felt like royalty! Dorothy greeted me with a certain sense of comfort and familiarity. She was more than accommodating and helpful. Ashley was absolutely wonderful ...she has golden hands!! The massage brought me to a different dimension. It was pure heaven! Never have I been so relaxed in my life. That feeling continued throughout the rest of my day and into that evening as well. After my treatments, I was brought into the transition room where Ashley and Dawn (the owner) conversed with me regarding my tension spots and how to go forward in bringing mediation/relaxation into my regular routine. i have never been to a spa but i was really dissappointed with this one .the staff was so rude it was crazy .the girl who did my facial was nice and quiet but the receptionist was very mean i would not go here again.the facial was $110 and they didnt do what i asked for. i know u should expect some irritation after a facial but even after 3 days my skin was still all red and blotchy and bothered probably because they didnt do what i asked and didnt listen to me .why would you have staff that is rude at a SPA .arent people supposed to be able to relax at a spa?i felt a bit sad and embarassed after that i paid money to go here and i got treated so badly !!!i don't know why they had such bad service, i was a polite customer? read more
