The Gobukan experience was unique and overall well worth it. One area for improvement would be the hot bath, which felt a bit small; I would likely skip that portion on a return visit. The massage and body scrub, however, were exceptional. Nickela provided outstanding service--she was attentive, thorough, and highly skilled. Her ability to identify and work through tension points, combined with effective stretching techniques, made for a deeply therapeutic and restorative experience. I would absolutely return, specifically to book with her again. Petula was also incredibly thorough and attentive to our needs. She took the time to explain each part of the experience in detail and ensured we were receiving the best care possible. I have had flotation therapy before, so I was looking forward to treating one of my best friends, with whom I was traveling, to the experience. However, every location only offered pods, which didn't work for us since we are both claustrophobic. So, I was excited to find Spa Pure! They offered something unusual; a massage while floating in salt water. While it wasn't the flotation therapy that I had experienced in the past and was looking for I thought we'd give it a try. I made an appointment at their facility in the Marriott Courtyard at 400 Royal Hawaiian Walk off Kuhio Ave on the lobby level. The spa is a neat but bare bones operation run by Dennis and Petula who are passionate and dedicated practitioners who are attentive to your needs. Their practice is based on Watsu which is almost as freeing as flotation therapy; nice alternative if you are like me and can not do pods. Don't worry about size; I'm 6'2" and 245lbs and Dennis handled me with ease. My husband said we could get a romantic couples massage for my birthday and I stumbled upon this place. We booked the couples spa package. It was not your typical spa experience. Parking is valet only but only $6 for 4 hours with validation. First we did show up early and asked if they could take us. No big deal if they couldn't but they were more than happy to. The lady who greeted us was very nice and thorough. She first explained all the services we were getting done and then led us to a changing room to get ready. We started in the Ganban Yoku, a type of heated stone bed. Again she was very attentive and came back frequently to provide cold towels, sips of water and temperature checks. Then we had our massage. I recently received a warm pool water (Watsu) massage from Dennis. If you've never experienced this form of massage (done in a warm pool), it's unlike any other form of massage therapy, and always leaves me completely relaxed. You are gently swished around a warm salt water pool completely supported by the therapist, aided by flotation devices. If you are uncomfortable in water, this may not be the best option for you, but if you enjoy water, the sensation of letting go while being supported is amazing, and hard to describe if you've never experienced a water massage. I highly recommend this style of massage, and Dennis is the only therapist I know of who offers this massage on Oahu. My mom and I went this place after the Honolulu Marathon in December. Even though it was my 10th and 7th for my mom, we were so tired and needed to relax. During the race, mom had so many times crumping on her legs and her legs were swollen after two days. We were recommended to use the Ganban yoku which is a heated stone bed from Japan...so we decided to try for 45 minutes...omg! It was amazing! Our cold and stiff body became melting in the heat and we felt so much better. They have a lot of choices but especially package looks reasonable rather than getting only massages. I visited this spa for a package with their famous water massage, followed by a regular "perfect" massage. It is a "no frills" massage place, which allows for lower rates. The therapists really should ask about any medical conditions and your preferred level of pressure before starting. They were very nice when I asked them to adjust, but I had vertigo in the pool and jolting pain when the other massage started. The outdoor pool is next to the street (loud traffic noise), and it was not pleasant being aware that multiple people would look over at the gate and stare at you getting your massage. Overall it was a very reasonable price for Waikiki, but still very expensive for the experience provided. I will opt for another place next time. read more

I just came out of there with my husband. We did a couple massage. I am going to defined this place with three words. Unpunctual - Unprofessional - Desorganized. Our appointment was at 11am. The spa was closed and none was there. By 11:15 someone came and opened. The lady who opened the door seemed she didn't know what was going on. She let us to a massage room, had us undressed and get under the blankets. 20 min later, a different lady came in and told us to leave the room, get dress again, and explained other options for the package (although we already booked what we wanted.) There was a language barrier, so we followed her. We let the spa with robes, walked all the way thru the hotel, then the parking lot (yes... full of people) and we went to a different building's 'private' pool... to give us a massage there. We talked to her and said we wanted 1 hr massage only. Well, all this thing was very confused and desorganized, but thats not all. We went back to the spa. The e woman made us wait another 15' (talking over the phone.) Then finally was time for our massage. At 12:15 they started. My personal experience. The woman that started doing my massage, was stopping every 5'' another woman came and start touching ny blanket while the other one was doing the massage. Then she kept stopping and talking to a 3rd woman in the tiny room. Then she left and the 3rd woman started doing ny massage. When I arrived they acted like I just came off the street and didnt make the appointment already 2 weeks prior, after the confusion I was taken to my room for my 2 hr lomi lomi massage. This was not a lomi lomi massage, it was a Swedish massage....it was done all in sections, no flow what so ever, hardly any oil was used.. and only did my legs from the knees down, never touched my stomach. When i flipped over she did my neck and then wiped me down and left....then came back 5 mins later and said i had more time and at one point the door opened and I know they traded therapists during my massage, so unprofessional. Husband and I bought the couple package. The only time we were together were where they had us in some oven-like stone heat thing for about 15 mins. Then they separated us. I got my massage first while the husband got his "ocean massage" (which btw their service sounded more fancy than it is.) After that husband and I switched place, then we ended up in the "hot tube" (which was just a regular bath tub) The "ocean massage" was ridiculous, so they have you change into a robe than have you walk to the back of the hotel you have to cross the driveway where a few ppl and valet guys look at you, then you get to this locked Marriott private pool and have a one on one massage session with an employee that seem like she hated her job. Since her hands were tied up massaging me she just coughed all over me. After the "ocean" experience you have to then come back, cross the driveway with ppl and valet guys looking at you than back to the spa. I find nothing relaxing about this. But my husband tried to book us a nice place and I just made the best out of it. Oh and when the lady (that booked us and massaged us) explained the service before, she made it sound all relaxing and romantic. You get tea and desserts, that's what she said. By the time we got all done and were in the "hot tub" we got some tea and two frozen eclairs. False advertisement, not worth the money! I had the "Round the World in 2 hours" package, and I must say it is the most amazing and healing experience possible in two hours! It is the best deal to really experience the specialty of this unique spa. It started off with the "Ocean Massage" in a warm salt water pool so you have privacy and don't need to worry about waves crashing over your head so I could really relax and feel safe. My body immediately felt at ease in this water and found out that Dennis has an unique style from his background as a dancer and yoga instructor. Felt like a leaf flowing down a river into another universe. It was like being back in the womb and connecting with the flow of the energy of the water. All the while I was getting massages and stretches at the same time. It is hard to explain and you just have to experience it. It was truly magical! Things only got better.... next was the massage which was a combination of lomi lomi, shiatsu and more... I tried to talk at first and it was clear that I was to let go and really just get into the massage. The table was covered with the softest sheets and the blanket that covered me was just as soft. Super comfy and warm. Usually when I get a massage I get lines all over my face. Somehow, the cradle and the cover they use is so soft that I looked normal after my massage. Dennis knew exactly where my tight spots were and worked his magic again. Calgon take me away!!! As you know, our skin is the largest detox organ so to finish off this session at the ganban yoku heated marble steam bed was the icing on the cake. It is the only one in Hawaii too. I could smell the refreshing peppermint and herbal mixture from the steam. As I lay there under the dome, the marble bed heated up my spine. I had a tailbone injury years ago, so this really hit the spot. The stretches and massages from the ocean massage and massage prepared my body and I could feel my body was ready to release a lot of toxins. Boy, did a lot of sweat and toxins come pouring out of my body! It is impossible to get this deep kind of release from sitting in a sauna. Lastly, I got to shower off in a huge double shower. I totally lost track of time and it felt like I had not only been around the world, but I went out into the universe and back. Pretty awesome. This was in our hotel so my boyfriend and I figured, why not, and got a couples massage the day we were supposed to fly back to frigid, snowy, Chicago. So glad we did. The steam thing that you start off on was my least favorite, but I don't do well with heat. But then once we rinsed off, got into robes it was time for our hour long massages side-by-side which was just awesome. Then we got to hop in a nice bath with some iced tea to end it all. The "Ocean Massage" with Dennis is a dream. It is the most enveloping, deeply healing experience I've had in any massage, anywhere. (And I've had many, many massages.) The massage is in a pool, not in the ocean, so no need to worry about waves or creatures or sand. My ears end up below the surface of the water, so all I can hear is gentle swishing. The whole vibe is womb-like; my body surrenders to the floating almost immediately, and I'm completely immersed in the smooth rhythm of Dennis' expert guidance through the water. As an experienced yoga teacher and former dancer, I know that any kind of relaxation work is cooperative. This is especially true of this unique type of massage. The more I release, the better it all feels. If I'm tense and stubborn with control, it's not a great feeling. Letting go is difficult at first, especially mentally, but when I can finally breathe into it and kinda go limp, Dennis can really do his magical ocean massage thing. All in all a relaxing experience. My only gripe is the towels had a mildew, musty smell to them. We asked for different towels and they all had the same smell. The lady mentioned they do all their laundry there and I'm assuming they try to air dry and the towels just aren't drying fast enough. It distracted from the experience. "A New and Wonderful Experience" My boyfriend and I, both seniors, were treated to this new and wonderful experience, that I would love to repeat. He did the granite sauna, while I did the ocean massage, and then we switched places. He rated the sauna a 5, because he got to lie in a personalized sauna "dome" with peppermint and lavender scents and a body steam. He was able to perspire profusely and his sinuses were better afterwards. I rate the ocean massage a 5, because I love the ocean, and this was a calm warm salt water pool, with a gentle massage, while floating on the surface with my ears submerged. Since I can't compare it with any previous spa experiences, I'll leave the rating at 4-stars (instead of 5) FOR NOW. I treated my then-boyfriend to a $400-something couples spa package that included the Ganban-yoku treatment, 30-min massage, 30-min ocean massage (pool), and a soak in the hot tub with iced tea. Service was excellent and the interior was absolutely beautiful. The woman working there was very sweet and explained everything to us clearly. All 4 components of the couples package were very "zen", relaxing, and romantic, but my favorite was the Ganban-yoku bath. It's worth looking up on their website if you're considering coming here, and if I ever have the luxury of going back, I'd go just for the Ganban-yoku treatment! An extra surprise I found was Carolyn Quan's digital artwork displayed on the spa walls. FYI, Carolyn is one of my favorite artists and recent mentors. I just had one of the best massages ever at this place. My friend and I both started with the Ganban Yoku (hot stone tables) and then had a 50 minute massage. We both agree... It was all awesome. The staff is extremely nice and the facility is calm and clean. My skin feels amazing from the Ganban Yoku. This is a horrible spa. The staff are rude and unprofessional. I emailed them in advance to confirm that I can take a shower and was told that I can, they even told me that I can come early. But when I actually showed up early, the staff made it obvious that she didn't welcome me, I was told to take a shower between GanbanYoku and massage, so I asked her if I can take a full shower after the massage, she said yes. However, after the massage she started telling me to hurry up and pretty much kicked me out. They don't even have a hair dryer, so I asked her if there's a blow bar in the area, she didn't understand me and I asked if there is a hair salon in the area, she was like "it's not that common in Waikiki. " I explained this frustrating situation to the hotel and they were nice enough to let me use their hospitality room to dry my hair. I emailed them about my disappointing experience with them, but they just said I took too long and didn't even apologize. Go somewhere else, you can easily find better spas. read more
