OMG I'm so melty! This was such a great experience and I will be back! I'm a big girl (about 220) and was nervous about going because I was feeling self conscious about being naked, but I'm glad I did it anyway! The spa is not super polished like a resort, but it was so comfortable! The staff is really nice and helpful! There was a bit of a language barrier between myself and the woman providing the services I booked, but the woman that checked me in speaks English and was able to help me if I couldn't mime my way through something. I booked the Makaloa Special Treatment and was absolutely not disappointed. I'd never had a body wrap before or a hair treatment or a facial treatment like that and I feel like this is what luxury feels like. I'm already a fan of a full body scrub, the wrap had me smelling like strawberry pop tarts in the best way, the face mask was interesting because it was quite cool going on like a gel and the solidified, then she pealed it off, my skin all over is so incredibly soft. When I first walked in, the woman at the front desk immediately made fun of my Christmas socks and then said something to the woman next to her in another language while looking at me. It was awkward and unprofessional, and it set a bad tone right away. After I changed and put on the robe they provided, she later told me I needed to put my hair up. I didn't have a hair tie, so I asked if they had one. What made this strange is that everyone else in the spa had their hair down, and I was planning to shower anyway with shampoo and conditioner. It felt like I was being singled out. As someone with curly hair, it made me feel targeted and uncomfortable, especially since no one else was asked the same thing. She also made a comment about keeping the sauna clean, which honestly made no sense. I had just arrived and had done nothing that would make it dirty. The comment felt unnecessary and insulting. For context, I had just gotten off a 5 1/2 hour flight and couldn't check into my Airbnb yet, so I came here just to shower and kill time. Instead of feeling relaxed and welcomed, I felt judged and uncomfortable the entire time. Overall, this was not a good experience. If you're looking for a spa that's welcoming and respectful, I'd suggest going somewhere else. I personally would not return. read more

It was totally an immersive experience and I could not have asked or more relaxing break My masseuse was named Kate. She was very friendly, very helpful and she explained every step of the way as she was proceeding through each one of the processes. The spa has everything you'd want in a Korean bathhouse: sauna, hot and cold plunge pools, jade room, and the signature service with Kay is incredible--exfoliation, oil massage, face mask, and hair wash, all in under two hours. It's not fancy, but it's authentic and truly restorative. The nude aspect feels natural and comfortable once you're there. What a wonderful experience! My mother and I were first timers this past Friday. We started with hot pool to open our pores. Then received an amazing body scrub, detox wrap, facial, body, head and foot massage. Left there couple of pounds lighter due to the old dead skin that was exfoliated off. Wow! Makaloa Sauna and the kind ladies here truly are incredible. I have been fascinated with the Korean body scrubs lately and have obsessively been reading reviews / researching all the available spas in my area. I decided on Makaloa Sauna for my first time and OMG - changed my life. Mimi was so amazing!!! The spa was clean and had great energy, everyone was kind and welcoming. I was instructed to shower and then use the pools, steam room, sauna to soften my skin before the scrub. Being my first time, I was nervous about the nudity aspect, but it felt so natural and comfortable. I chose the "Makaloa Signature" package. Mimi scrubbed me absolutely everywhere, it was shocking to see what came off of my body. She really took her time and was thorough. I have had massages all over the island at some of the best resorts and NONE of them compare to the way she massaged me after the scrub. I mean wow. I feel better than ever. She also applied a face mask and shampooed my hair. Everything was top notch and I left feeling happy, uplifted, super soft & very satisfied with the experience. I will absolutely be back. My friend and I did a walk-in and the front desk was very nice and accommodating! It's a small and cozy spot, and the fermented rice tea we had was yummy and has so many health benefits. We did the Makaloa Signature scrub and it was excellent!!! This is so much better than any Swedish or other massages I've ever gotten. I will definitely be coming back next time I'm visiting Oahu. So if you have never been to a Korean spa this probably shouldn't be your first. There was very little explanation of process and if you don't speak Korean it can be frustrating. The reason I scored as high as I did is because the staff are all extremely nice and my exfoliation was excellent! Having said that I'm not sure I'll return. The photos are a bit deceptive because overall the place is pretty small. The changing area is continuous with the sitting area and check in area so there is no privacy. Granted, no privacy is kind of the hallmark of these spas but it is nice to at least undress out of view of random people walking in. I got a massage too which I would not recommend, more of a serial pressing down hard along body rather than an actual massage and it mostly hurt and unfortunately the nice lady working on me didn't understand when I asked her to press less. The crushed cucumber on face was quite pleasant. Also, during time in saunas I was given ice cold cucumber water which was lovely. read more

This would be the 3rd Korean spa I have tried so far. It's on the smaller side but I can still appreciate it. It has a hot & cold pool, wet & dry sauna. The dry sauna has Himalayan salt inside as well. I got the body scrub & massage combo. It also came with a fresh cucumber facial and hair wash. Loved it! Definitely worth the $120! The woman who did my massage was very good! I enjoy a hard massage and I definitely got it. It was a good painful. If you're not into that just let them know & I'm sure they will accommodate. I was so excited they had the famous Korean sauna eggs. I've been binge watching kdrama & been wanting to try them. It was a good snack before dinner time. Paired so well with the corn silk tea. I think I'm getting addicted to these Korean spas. Definitely would return again. It's somewhat across from Walmart on Keeaumoku. There is a parking lot as well but make sure you get validated, unless your leave after 5pm when the parking guy is gone. read more

This was an awful experience altogether and the only reason I gave a 1 was because they took me in today. First off, I chose the $140 plan which included an oil massage, body scrub, shampoo and face mask. The hot pool was way too hot and burned my leg when I stepped in. The nice lady who I think is the owner tried to convince me that the temperature was good I just needed to get used to the temperature. Yeah I don't think so cause another worker came by to feel the water and told her in Korean that it was too hot along with another customer that tried to step in the hot pool. I asked why it wasn't bubbling a d she said the equipment wasn't working so she told me to go I to the wet sauna room to wait while she dumps out some hot water and replace it with cold water. After I felt it was safe to enter the hot pool without the risk of getting 2nd or 3rd degree burns I entered the hot pool, then proceeded to the cold pool which wasn't ice cold. The scrub was ok but it was the massage that took the cake. I've been having upper back pain between my shoulder blades for 3 days now and I thought she could knead some knots out. NO, she used some device to massage me. It wasn't her hands because it felt and sounded like a roller, she never hit any of the major points that even a mediocre masseuse would, as a matter of fact, felt more pain from the roller. I asked her of she knew how to massage stomachs which she said, yes. But she didn't know how as she also used the roller on my stomach. I had a remarkable stomach , deep tissue massage when I went to Loess Spa. Anyway,a coworker referred me to this place and what a disappointment this was. I gave her a $30 tip for her efforts. They were very accommodating to have us three at the same time. We did the scrub and massage combo. It was SO GOOD. My person was Mimi and she was amazing!! Ladies, this is relaxation and loving yourself the best way possible. My girlfriend and I are very active with surfing, gym, etc. and we both just needed to melt some stress away. So, we decided to check out Makaloa Sauna. We thought we would get turned away bc we arrived so close to closing time. But, they legit stayed open well after that time and never made us feel unwelcome or rushed. We had some awkward funny interactions when we put our little towel wrap on wrong. Wearing it like a long dress with our breasts out when it should have been worn like a dress. We felt a little weird getting naked in front of each other at first, but that quickly subsided when the lady said flatly that we're all naked, nothing to be shy about. She was right and the vibe was chill and uncrowded. We soaked in all the lovely sauna heat, switching back and forth from the hot tub. We were thrilled and surprised to also find a cold bath there and a steam room. We just kept letting out sighs of yassss, we are so loving ourselves rn! I went to the Korean spa down the street from this one multiple times for scrub&massage but tried this place a few days ago bc a friend recommended it and wow, GO TO THIS SPA. Even if you just want a massage, I will never again go anywhere else on the island. The format and look of the place is similar to other k spas on island but the skill level of the masseuses here is insane. My two friends and I got the 1hr &40min scrub + massage (includes facial mask and soaking in the tubs and sauna& steam rooms) and we were all blown away at how amazing and detailed the massages were. One of my friends is a massage therapist herself so it is hard to find someone she recommends but she was blown away. My friends and I agreed we will come here to celebrate any future occasions lol. Truly amazing, I had Lee/Li (?), she was so strong and detailed, literally spent so long working this knot I've had for a month, she was working so hard, I almost felt bad!
