They were able to squeeze me in this week for a custom facial with Ferren, and it was so relaxing and my skin looks and feels so good. My first time doing microdermabrasion, and I did not find it painful. I would definitely return if/when I'm back in the area! Had my very first facial treatment ever with Christina today and I have to say it was an amazing experience. She was one of the sweetest most down to earth people I've met in a very long time. Christina made me feel totally relaxed from the minute I stepped in the door and was very detailed and thorough in her new client process and answered any questions I had beforehand. She kept me informed and walked me through every single step of the process as we went through my facial and even recommended amazing products but didn't pressure me to buy anything which I definitely appreciated. I had a Fountain of Youth facial with Taylor yesterday, and it was such a lovely experience. She made me feel so comfortable and walked me through all the steps of what she was doing, the products she used, and how they are meant to work. Before the facial, we talked a lot about my current routine and the products I use, and afterward, she suggested an addition to my skincare routine to bring it to the next level. She stressed that I did not need to buy any product there, but I really liked how my face felt after she used it on me, and it was marked down much more than any other retail outlet for products that may not be vegan and cruelty-free, so I went for it. My skin feels balanced and the glow is back in my cheeks. Highly recommend. read more

Again...I had years of superb facials here as I believe it is one of only a handful that offer microcurrent facials - not to mention microcurrent with microdermabrasion. I had one disappointing experience when having to cancel because of dire illness but it wasn't actually with the owner and...even so... my point was that, particularly those with whom one has positive history, should be allowed a mulligan, so I must honor the 90% excellent service and experience that I had here many, many times. read more

I haven't had a facial since high school (I know, I know--but college isn't all that cheap. :P) Anyways, I was looking for an organic spa around Berkeley that's similar to Kym with a Y in Stockton (my hometown!) and this one had the best ratings of all the spas so I decided to check it out and pamper myself a bit since I had finished finals this week. I have a history of acne problems for the past eight or so years, and I've always been self-conscious about my skin. Although this spa is a bit pricier than other spas, I think it was well worth it and I definitely plan on coming again. PLUS everything is organic, which I find to be very important. I arrived 15 minutes earlier than my appointment, and Christina (the owner) gave me a questionnaire to fill out to get to know a little more about me and my skin history while she was with another client. The place looks like a typical boutique in the front. When she was ready, she had me come to the back and she opened the curtains. I was a bit skeptical because the room was SUPER TINY. But the overall ambiance was quite soothing with the background music. I changed into a soft towel-like robe and then Christina came in and she immediately got to work with cleansing and massaging my face. The table that I laid on was heated and very comfy and I was covered in a satin cloth with another layer of warm sheets. I got the Zit Zapper facial, although I don't have any more acne pimples; I thought it'd be the better choice for my blackheads and oily/sometimes dry skin. She did an amazing job and I love the results! She talked me through what she was doing and explained everything I didn't know about my skin (which is apparently a lot) and how to care for it. She was very careful and attentive the entire time, my session was a little over an hour. During the few times where she had to allow the serums to sink in, she gave me a little neck and shoulder massage which was a super plus. I was a bit embarrassed, but since it was bothering me for quite some time, I told her for the past 3 or so years, I've been very self-conscious about the back of my neck. She was very reassuring and said she'd take a look if there's time at the end, but may have to schedule a mini session another time since it's considered a back treatment and not a facial. What happened [ugh sorta long story]: I got a spider bite on my neck during badminton practice and to prevent from infection, I covered it with a bandaid and apparently the bandaid had irritated my sensitive neck skin and caused a scar-like line and made some of the pores enlarged and open. I played two sports in high school (badminton and tennis) and the accumulation of dead skin, sweat, dirt and oil had built up in these pores so it appeared to be like blackheads on my neck over the scar. It looked gross and it was difficult to have my hair up in a ponytail knowing its existence. I started going to a dermatologist when I came to college (because of my mom's nagging) and it pretty much cured my acne pimples, but I still had those clogged pores especially on the areas of my nose and that specific spot on my neck. I had shown my dermatologist this (he's an old man) and he asked me, "How do you even see the back of your neck?" Obviously, guys don't care to analyze their entire body....lol. He just said to put some of the Retin-A topical he's prescribed me onto the neck as well. Which didn't work. :1 Christina ACTUALLY took the time to steam the back of my neck and check it out. She managed to unclog all the pores and said that some of them had actually shrunk when she got the gunk out! She said that the Retin-A wouldn't work if the pores are that clogged from 3 years ago and that some dermatologists don't really get down to the extracting work, but only prescribe stuff (LIKE MINE). When she had finished, I got dressed and looked in the mirror and couldn't have been more ecstatic! My skin is satin smooth and clear and dewy radiant. I went to pay, and I thought she'd charge more for the additional neck, but she didn't. I really wish I could have tipped her more since she did an amazing job, but being a college student, this isn't something I can often afford. The next time I want to pamper myself, I'll definitely be coming here again! Not going back. Far from relaxing experience. I called one week in advance to book an appointment and she told me her next available one was Wednesday at 2:00. Because I work by the hour as a consultant, scheduling is important to me. At 2:00 TWO of us showed up and, rather than admit she'd double-booked, Christina turned me away because the other client had booked a facial AND a massage. She said I must have made a mistake. The other client was quite willing to let me have the facial and come back at 3 for the massage, but Christina continued to insult me by saying I hadn't shown up for whatever time she'd written down. The facials I had there before were 3 stars, but I don't bother to write 3 star reviews, only 1 or 5. read more

I don't normally write reviews, but this visit was extraordinary! I went to Spa Organica after my annual fieldwork as an archaeologist, which consists of 3 months of sweat, extreme sun exposure, loads of dirt, and lots of sweat and stress. Christina devoted her time and attention to my visit, my skin needs, and educating me about what would improve my skin care regime, but without pushing products on me. I had a Diamond Dermabration facial and was incredibly happy that at least half of the treatment was an actual facial, devoted to cleansing and prepping my skin and learning as much about it before going through the dermabrasion. Afterward my skin felt and still looks amazing, unlike other dermabrasion treatments I've had, which have left it irritated and quite sensitive to light and touch. I will definitely be going back to Christina for the same and additional services. She is a fantastic find!! read more

Thank you Christina and Spa Organica!! i have had a very rough few weeks so I made an appointment for their pampering package which includes a 1-hr massage, 1-hr facial, foot soak and reflexology treatment. It was heaven!!! After the facial I consulted with Christina about recommended products for me to use at home. Up until now I haven't had a good home face care routine and Christina really helped me put together a realistic plan with great products. She even wrote down the plan we discussed so that I wouldn't forget (remember that at that moment I was in utter bliss so my mind wasn't at 100%). I would HIGHLY recommend Spa Organica and will definitely be going back for more pampering! Update: I have now been using the products I purchased from Spa Organica for a little over the month and my skin is gorgeous! I found this spa thanks to Yelp and gave them a call and got an appointment the same day for the Pampering Package. Susanne gave me a wonderful 1.5 hour massage (including a 30 min foot massage). She was very gentle and I could easily let go and sink into deep relaxation. Next, Christina gave me the best facial I have ever experienced. I didn't think I could get more relaxed than I already was but she has hands of a healer and I not only felt relaxed but restored, recharged and in a great mood. Getting right to the point, Christina is, quite simply, the best aesthetician I have been to in the Bay Area (and I've tried a lot of them); she's knowledgeable, experienced, reasonably priced, and a truly nice person. Her lash tinting never stings and my lashes always turn out looking thoroughly dark and fabulous - and the results last way longer than when I've gotten it done elsewhere. My brows are also in their best shape ever! Christina is a perfectionist and has a talent for waxing in the most accurate, efficient, and painless way possible. My skin is also looking great these days, thanks to regular facials and skin treatments. I have combo skin, which can be hard to treat, but with her thorough extractions and all natural organic products the results are better than what I've gotten anywhere else. Lastly, I really appreciate the peaceful, professional, and super-clean environment Christina creates. It is evident that she cares very much about the comfort of her clients and wants us to have a relaxing, wonderful experience. I always leave feeling 100% better than when I arrived! I love being able to stroll down Solano Avenue in Berkeley afterwards to window shop with my cup of coffee in hand from Peet's; it's a great location near all the fun shops. It took me a while to find the right esthetician after my favorite in the city moved away. It took almost a good 3 years to find Christina but it was worth the wait. Christina is so knowledgeable about facials and skin care. I love that her products are paraben free and as clean as you can get. Christina is very kind and gentle and talks me through the process. I had a great first visit to Spa Organica. I was on a business trip in the area, and wanted to have both a massage and to have my eyebrows done - given the reviews on Yelp, this place was the obvious choice. Yelpers did not disappoint! The massage was delightful. Christina, the owner, was very responsive to my needs and did a wonderful job on my neck and shoulders. My eyebrows came out really well too - she did a wax and tint and she got the color just right. My only feedback is about staffing. It seems that she could really use having two folks on staff at all times, as she seemed to be running the place alone during my appointment, so she was a little frenzied. My appointment started late because she was wrapping up with the person before me, and she almost forgot to do my eyebrows without my prompting. Still, this is a new small business and she does *great* work. I highly recommend! read more

A friend of mine introduced me to Christina's products. I started out with the sugar cinnamon scrub and FELL IN LOVE. It's made with organic products, is completely edible (and trust me, you kinda want to eat it), and made my skin feel amazing--no need for lotion after the shower. I also use it on my 2 year old son, he loves it and it just turns him into this glistening little being! The green tea matcha scrub is also fabulous. The other thing I've been using on a daily basis that I love is her Very Vanilla Cream. I use it on my face, and it is extremely moisturising AND lightweight. Again, totally organic and a simple, short list of ingredients. I love using these products b/c with all I've read about parabens and other toxic chemicals in body products, I feel completely safe using these, AND handling my toddler on a daily basis with them on my skin. And all of the products I've used of Christina's are incredibly reasonably priced. I feel like I hit the jackpot finding this stuff...I use it myself, I give it as gifts, because I feel so good about it--local, woman-owned business, good, organic ingredients, inexpensive and great for my body! What a wonderful, relaxing way to spend an afternoon. I can't say enough kind things about Christina. She is a treasure! I came in for a facial, something I have almost no experience getting, but she made me feel relaxed, comfortable, and right at home. She answered all my questions, and gave me specific and helpful advice about caring for my skin. She tailored the facial to my skin's needs, even switching to more soothing products when my sensitive skin started to react. One completely unforeseen benefit of my visit, was that Christina was able to use microdermabrasion to work on an inch-long surgical scar I've had on my face for quite some time. I was shocked to find that it was thinner and softer after my visit. I had no idea there was any treatment for this. I've had only one facial before, and by the next day you couldn't tell. I just thought that's how facials are. But several days after Christina's treatment, even my husband commented that my skin still looked and felt better than before! I brought my daughter in for her first facial on the same day. (Got her started early - I don't want her neglecting her skin the way I have.) She was effusive in her praise of Christina, loved the advice she received, and said she was so easy to talk to. Full Disclosure: I've been a Claremont Spa person, enjoying the views, the elegance - but the prices are now way beyond me, and I have been disappointed in services. So I went to Spa Organica for foot massage, 1 hour massage, and facial as a gift to myself. Christine, the owner, is remarkably knowledgeable about products, and my facial left my aging face hyper-clean and radiant. Chelsea must be one of the best masseurs I've come across. Her skilled and intuitive hands combine a number of techniques, stroke by stroke, to leave you not only relaxed, but energized - with knots untied you didn't know you had. The cost? $200 total - a third of what the Claremont charges. Besides, the Claremont is corporate, and we should support our local businesses. Do try Spa Organica. read more

Really enjoyed my experience with Christina. I tend to avoid spas and salons due to all the chemicals, so it's great to find a place where I don't have to worry. Christina waxed my eyebrows with a natural organic wax which smelled gently of pine, not synthetic perfumes. Spa Organica opened up near Solano Avenue in North Berkeley about a year ago and is a very welcome addition to this neighborhood! I agree with other reviewers that Spa Organica deserves five stars. Christina is incredibly professional, knowledgeable and very skilled. I went for my first time and will undoubtedly be back. After days of holding stress in my neck, my head finally started to ache and I was having difficulty concentrating on my work. After a chair massage, Christina (who specializes in cranio-sacral therapy) made all the discomfort disappear. Finally I could relax. The atmosphere is tranquil and down to earth. You can drop in between 12 and 3 for "mini treatments" or schedule an appointment for many types of spa type treatments, from custom facials to acupressure. I just got a massage here yesterday. I had been eyeing this spa since I moved into the neighborhood, but it looked pricey. I was lucky enough to get a gift certificate so I opted for a much needed massage. The masseuse was super friendly and I was able to book the same day! The spa itself was adorable. I immediately wanted to start looking at everything, but I had a massage scheduled. The masseuse did a good job of asking what spots I wanted targeted during the massage. I indicated that these were mostly my shoulder/neck area. The massage itself was good, but I must point out it is really important to communicate. When she started, I was on my stomach and the pressure she applied to my neck/shoulders during the first 15 minutes was quite light. I thought this was perhaps just to open up the muscles. Unfortunately, this was all the work she did on my shoulders while I was on my stomach. She later started working on them while I was on my back (from under), and I indicated that I'd like more pressure - and she delivered. Next time, I'll be sure to indicate a medium pressure. I'm a petite person and I've had this happen before. I can definitely handle more than it looks like I can! The rest of the massage was wonderful; I think I even dozed off. At the end, she indicated some of my problem areas and ways I could remediate pain moving forward. Afterwards, I wanted to peruse the shop, even though it was closed. There were a lot of room fresheners, lotions, candles, beauty supplies that were amazing, organic products. I had tried a peppermint foot lotion sample and decided I needed it (plus it was on sale for a February/Valentine's Day special). Unfortunately, the register/atm machine was either shut down for the day, or the masseuse didn't know how to use it....which was a bummer, as I'm very much a spur of the moment purchaser. Oh well. I'll be coming back though, as I'd really like to try a facial. I wonder if Spa Organica ever does Amazon local/Groupon/Yelp specials (hint hint, wink wink). read more

This was my VERY first time doing wax. And I really, really, appreciate the yelp which lead me here!! I was super nervous, but Christina made me relaxed and did great job without pain I imagined! Importantly, I have eczema and my face is very sensitive, but the wax she use didn't hurt or irritate my skin. This is a follow up review to my recent one when I gave Spa Organica one star only. Christina, the owner, contacted me with her apologies for the poor service I received from Megan. She also offered me a complimentary massage. I returned to the Spa last Friday and Christina treated me with great respect and also provided me with a wonderful full body massage. Megan also send me a written apology. People and businesses make mistakes sometimes but when the owner does the right thing to correct them, treating customers right, they deserve my business. When I was planning my ensemble for my wedding day I knew that I was going to have to wear make-up despite the fact that both my husband and I are fans of skin au natural and I prefer to use products with ingredients from the natural world. I had to call around to a few different salons before I found Christina and once I met her, I knew I'd found my gal. She's very careful about her work and making sure that she is honoring the person to whom she's applying make-up. We did a trial run for our engagement photo shoot which looked great, but later on our wedding day it was even better. Both my husband and I agreed on the improvement and the photos (our reason for answering the call of vanity in the first place) are beautiful. Christina's work is infused with who she is and I feel confident in offering the following interpretation of her approach: she strives to see the beauty within each client and help bring that beauty to the surface with her artistry.
