    Services and price

I highly recommend Spa 920 for the scalp and hair treatment with Calvin. He was friendly, thorough and clearly explained the whole 2 hours process. My scalp felt clean and hair was soft with noticeably less split ends. It was recommended that I do five treatments, each costing $120. I bought five treatments for $500. The first five treatments should be one week apart and then once a month after that to maintain a healthy scalp. I will be back for my treatment and haircut with Calvin very soon. So happy I actually found a place that offer this treatment for a reasonable price. The owner was very friendly which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

I got the dip manicure over nail extensions. My husband booked me a mani pedi with a Groupon. I was charged $10 for the nail tips (which is the typical price) And was told if I wanted a nail shape it would be an additional $10, but the manicurist (owner?) gave me a slightly "coffin" shape for free. She was also really helpful in choosing the color of dip powder and listened to what I wanted, and matched the color with the picture I showed her. The pedicure was very relaxing. The pedicurist was very accommodating, offering me drinks and snacks, getting a hot neck rice sock, hanging up my coat etc. the massage chair was a great touch. He did a great job on the paint, as well. I believe the pedicurist was in training for doing manicures, and was learning how to use the nail file drill. The owner was instructing him on one hand while she was working on the other to "save time." He held it in one place for a length of time multiple times, and burned me more than once. In addition, on one of my nails it wore down through my nail and was very painful. I actually jumped and jerked my hand away (which is not typical of me.) 3 weeks later and I had the nails removed. That specific nail is very sensitive to touch still. Several of my nails were crooked, the shaping they did was not the same on both hands at all (I guess you get what you pay for.) The dip pedicure lasted very well with no chipping, but it was very chunky and lumpy. Uneven, sharp parts under the nail and on the edges. Overall, the customer service was really great. I felt like they listened to what I wanted and cared about my comfort and experience. The actual manicure services could have been much better.

3 weeks after getting my first dip done at Spa 920

Great Nail salon! Was recommended by a varies co workers to come to this salon! The Salon Owner did a wonderful job! My first dip (in white color) lasted a very long time- the color white did not change color. It was a great service that I would recommend stopping by here and getting your services done!

Got a groupon here and they were amazing. Went above and beyond to make sure my nails looked perfect and that I was pampered. Nema was my lady and was so nice and recommend a great dip nail color. Would def recommend and at a great price

I went back and forth as to whether I wanted to write this, but I do think my experience was…read moreunfortunate and may not necessarily reflect their skill and service here, but I think it's still worth sharing. The TL;DR is that I was unable to get my hair coloring done and also got a haircut that was not very flattering. I felt I looked better when I came in vs when I came out of the salon. This was all despite the effort I made to contact this salon multiple times beforehand to ensure that they were able to do the hair that I wanted. In January, I had my hair cut and permed in Los Angeles, which I was happy with, but I wanted to also make my hair blonde with this hair style (I'm a Korean American with dark hair). I confirmed with my hairstylist in LA as well as the internet that you should wait a while to bleach your hair to space out the damage, at least ~4 weeks. I currently live in Cleveland, OH for grad school and heard there aren't many good salons in OH for Asian hair. So I did my research, found this salon in Chicago with good ratings, read through ratings, looked through photos, and then first messaged them on instagram to set an appt. I sent them reference photos of the color I wanted, plus a current selfie showing my hair to ask if what I wanted was possible. I also explained I was going to be driving in from Cleveland (took me 7 hours since I avoided tolls) so I wanted to really make sure before I made the trip. I told them also about my perm from weeks ago (it was going to be over 7 weeks since the perm for the appt day I asked for). I also called 24 hours later directly to the salon since I didn't get a response on instagram right away. The person on the phone booked me with Michelle. I then proceeded to explain my situation and told them I sent them photos on instagram. The woman on the phone tried to reassure me saying "it's okay, Michelle can do whatever color. Don't worry about it." I took their word. They also responded on instagram confirming they could book me an appt and gave me an estimate of pricing (starting around $350) and time range (3-4 hours) based on the color I wanted. The day of my appt, I show Michelle my pictures and what I want. She starts rambling about how the color I want is not possible, or needs to be bleached multiple times because my hair color is too dark. I was asking her to clarify if that meant I have to come in on different days to get it done, and she wasn't very clear and eventually just said, "It's okay, we will figure it out. For now, you need a haircut right?" So we cut my hair to a length I was satisfied with, but since it wasn't dried/styled yet, I wasn't sure what the finished product would look like yet. Then we went back to discussing color. First, she tells me, "okay, we can bleach multiple times, but it may take a long time, maybe even 6 hours. Is that ok?" I said yes (I knew it might take a long time so I purposefully asked for their earliest appt time that day). "And it's going to be around $400-500. Is that ok?" I said yes again. THEN she says, "oh, and the bleach is going to flatten your perm, so you won't have your perm anymore." This is when I was stunned and hesitated and asked for time to think. I was already starting to worry about whether the color would actually look okay on me based on Michelle's initial response to my request, but then to also not have my perm that I had paid for before but I still wanted to be a part of my overall hairstyle? I was incredibly disappointed. I was definitely ignorant of how this hair stuff worked, but that's why I tried doing my research beforehand and asked them multiple times, sending them pictures and explaining my situation BEFORE I planned a trip 7 hours away by car. I don't have many free weekends, so this was also difficult for me to schedule. Eventually I declined the color because I didn't want to risk not liking the final color AND losing my perm. But I wish the staff, all the people I talked to here, told me BEFORE I made the trip to Chicago, and BEFORE she cut my hair. I honestly would not have gotten my haircut had I known I wasn't going to get color. I know cheaper hair salons for hair cuts in the area and might've opted for another place if I wanted one (my hair was already short, but the haircut price was still $70). The staff didn't necessarily act rude or anything, but they clearly failed to take my situation into consideration despite all of my effort and wasted my time, money and energy. And honestly I don't like the hair cut. I look like Johnny Depp from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; the lack of layers is not flattering. I have to pull my hair back daily to look decent. I'm just sad this happened and they may be competent at hair, but the inconsiderate communication was really disappointing.

I specifically asked for my bangs to be below my eyebrows and she made a rookie mistake of cutting it at my eyebrows when wet. Anyone with bangs know that once dry, it gets a bit shorter. plus she didn't cut it evenly or symmetrically. In the attached pictures, one is a picture of the bangs I showed the stylist (of the bangs I wanted), the one that looks very short is the bangs I left with right after (she styled it with a round brush and dryer), and the third one is the next day after I washed my hair and combed it down- you can see it's not even straight or symmetrical.. thankfully this will grow out in about 3-4 weeks but it's devastating with the holiday season, Christmas is in a few days and New Years next week with lots celebrations and my hair will look like I cut and messed up my own bangs. the rest of my hair was decently cut - though when looking at it, it's hard for the eyes not to go to the bangs that were so obviously messed up. I would have been understanding if they told me they gave me a junior or student stylist and I wish she would have just told me she isn't comfortable cutting bangs as it would have been better if she just left it alone.

I have been going and spreading the gospel of Shana for all the years since my last review. Because I moved to St Louis and then covid ruined my year in Chicago, I didn't get to have many haircuts with her in the past six years, but I did when I could, and the few times I've had to settle for an emergency haircut elsewhere (Chicago Chinatown, flushing new york, etc) , no one was good as her. To me, what makes her incredibly special is how great my hair can look without any effort. I am a very low maintenance person, and no one else has ever given me a haircut that looks great just by me air drying my hair lazily. Plus, if I let my hair grow out, it somehow maintains some semblance of shape for a long, long time. How!! It's magic. Nowhere else have I been able to get this. Sure this is just one person's low maintenance needs. But honestly it's a big ask for a stylist - give me a nonboring haircut, but I don't want it to look like crap when I don't style it. No one else has been able to do achieve that for me. And from the time I've spent in the waiting area/waiting for my hair to dye, etc, and seeing other clients come through, it is clear Shana strives to understand each person's needs individually. And of course she's always offering advice based on each person (that you should always listen to!) All the things I said in my previous review are true still, she is of course a skilled technician. But also magical, to me at least. And I know it's just hair! But it was always great knowing I could always rely on Shana for a great haircut, and this void has been hard to fill now that I moved. Everyone should go to Shana, especially if you have thick Asian hair like me!
