I've been coming to Soy Tofu since I was a senior in high school. I've gotten to know the owner, Grace, throughout the years of coming here. I recently went back after like a 4-year hiatus, just because I got busy and moved. Let me first say that the hospitality that Grace provides is unbeatable. She's the most hardworking owner that I know along with her husband - she works in the front while her husband works in the back. It's not uncommon for her to say hi to other locals and returning customers. That goes to say how much people love her and the restaurant. My go-tos: Soondubu - any soondubu, you can ask her for a combo that isn't on the menu like beef and mushroom and she'll make it for you! I always get medium, i feel like that has the perfect flavor. Pork Katsu - I get this occasionally, and the portion she gives is HUGE. you can really share this with another person. Fried perfectly and has that great crunch. Mandu - Comes out juicy and soft. Lots of flavor and the skin isn't too thick or thin. Her ban-chans are also amazing. I love that she rotates them and offers different staples that you normally don't see when you go to a soondubu chain restaurant like BCD. She'll give like glazed potatoes, cole slaw radish, etc. She also has a tub of ice cream by the front door for free. Don't forget to get your free scoop! I would 100% come back here over going to another soondubu restaurant because this place just feels like home when you eat here, like eating a home- cooked meal. She also remembers my name after all these years and I was really surprised that she did!

This was my Fiancee's go-to spot for Korean tofu soup growing up, so she decided to take me here when we were in the area. Wow, the service and hospitality were top notch! You could tell that the locals really love the restaurant, and Grace (the owner) really makes you feel at home. She knew almost everyone in the restaurant by name and even remembered my Fiancee after over 5 years. The food was delicious. Make sure to ask for purple rice! Pork Katsu - Large serving, fried to perfection. Mandu - Comes out piping hot, tons of flavor, and extra juicy. Bulgogi and soup combo - what more can you ask for?! Such a great staple and combo of Korean food. You can also help yourself to free ice cream at the end of your meal. They had cookies n cream and rocky road during my visit.

This used to be my "go to" place! I loved the quality, friendliness, and portions. Now. I won't refer anyone here. So rude. And the rudeness came from the owner. It was embarrassing too because I was proudly showing a friend this yummy place. Tiny portions, rude service. All at 11:15am. No more. Now I need to find a new tofu restaurant. Luckily there are a TON to choose from.

A true hidden gem and low key spot! Visited on a Wednesday evening around 6pm, and basically had the restaurant to myself. While it was relatively empty, that did not discount the service or quality of the food. In fact for anyone who wants a quiet dining experience with a comforting meal, this is the spot! The head lady came to take my order right away and brought out the banchan, which was varied and delicious. I particularly sought out this restaurant for an alternative soondubu spot from BCD, which is always chaotic. They have a mushroom soondubu which comes out piping hot, like a volcano! This is a meal ment to enjoy slowly and with patience and peace. I appreciate the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant and took my time, blowing on 1 spoonful of tofu and mushroom soup, over rice. It felt very centering to be fully focused on the meal and not the hustle and bustle of a chaotic restaurant. That being said, I did feel for the owners, who must be pining for more customers. Please give this restaurant a try, perfect for a midweek wholesome meal with healthy veggie banchan and excellent hot soup!

I'm very glad we stumbled on to this spot. Best Korean meal in awhile for us! It was 15-20 mins from where we were at on our way home but the reviews made it sound worth it! It's better than BCD and we enjoy BCD, lol. The diverse banchan was amazing. It was such a treat and the best we've had! Each banchan tasted unique. I felt like i can taste the love in it. Bf loved the cucumber kimchi and kimchi so much he asked if we can order some to go. Lol. Unfortunately, they weren't able to lol. We ordered the spicy pork and tofu soondubu soup combo and the vegetable pancake. Both were delicious! Bf ate all the bbq! He says best spicy pork bbq he's had at a Korean restaurant. He was very impressed and has been spoiled with quality Korean meals. We ate everything up and packed leftovers of the vegetable pancake. The pancake and dipping sauce were ok. It seemed a little undercooked and could be crispier. I usually prefer my sauce less sour, maybe saltier and sweeter. It's a win when bf and I can enjoy authentic meals together accommodating my meatless meals. The complimentary self serve ice cream was the cherry on top. Service was great, prompt and very friendly! Cute decor. Def a mom and pop shop and we love to support local gems! 5/5!!! Definitely will return again!!!

I'm a fan of Soy Tofu! It's another local gem. The service is kind and attentive, the dining area is clean, and the vibe is pleasant. The decor is simple and homey. I've dined here several times, and each time was fantastic. My current favorite items: - Soon Tofu (soups) - mushroom and beef+seafood with black rice - The Tofu Combos - if you're a little more hungry, I recommend the BBQ short ribs with the tofu soup - Dumplings - fried or steamed, they are both excellent! - The complimentary ice cream! When you receive the boiling hot tofu soup, immediately add the raw egg and stir it a little. I also added some rice as I ate to provide additional texture. There are many ways to enjoy the Soon Tofu. Vegetarian and vegan options are available on the menu or ask the server. If you're in the area, try Soy Tofu. It's in a plaza with a Korean market and many other good restaurants. There's usually plenty of parking in the public lot.

Amazing traditional Korean food in a very discrete location, tucked away in a strip mall in La Palma that's worth a long drive if you're 5-10+ miles away. We had the seafood pancake, bibimbap, and the grilled chicken, tofu soup, and along with the amazing banchan, this was plenty for 2 adults and two small children. The staff were super nice and attentive, even when the place got busy. Everything was extremely tasty and the seafood pancake was loaded with meat, while the chicken and tofu soup made the entire meal interesting with the banchan to kebitevery bite interesting. We help ourselves to the free ice cream as well and will definitely be back soon.

Feel so warm to be there for our dinner. The food is taste like homemade with perfect taste . High recommend this place. Also with friendly side dishes. Love it

*** Closes on Sunday *** On the outside, this soon tofu restaurant doesn't look that glamorous; however this restaurant received #1 on the Yelp's Top Places to Eat in Orange County in 2023 (https://www.instagram.com/reel/CzKgvjaJWyt/). This place is so good that ... I came here twice in recent months. [Parking]: Fairly easy parking as the parking lot isn't always packed. [Service]: Very limited staff and only one person (most likely the lady owner) serves the entire restaurant on Saturday lunch, but she was friendly and met all of our table's needs (including refills on side dishes). [Menu]: Not as many tofu combo meals as other soon tofu restaurants (4 combos), but sometimes less is more. The menu also includes 9 different types of bibimbap. Each tofu or tofu combo come with white or purple rice as well as complimentary side dishes (banchan). *** [#1 BBQ Short Ribs + Tofu (grilled galbi over diced onions + #3 seafood tofu with shrimp, clam, oyster, baby octopus, mild spicy - $34]: Excellent galbi with great meat quality and flavors. Their seafood tofu was one of the better seafood tofu soup I've had - it had baby octopus and did not go stingy on shrimps & oysters. [Side dishes]: All side dishes were really good, but I will say kimchi and fish cake are on a more spicy side so be prepared. Glazed peanut tasted absolutely addicting with slightly sweet aftertaste. *** I am not sure why Soy Tofu isn't more popular & more packed whenever I come here because I really think this is one of the best soon tofu restaurants in LA / Orange County. Hey I ain't complaining because that just mean I won't have to wait to enjoy delicious side dishes and soon tofu! P.S. - FREE self-serve ice cream at the front entrance! Limited selection (only two types of ice cream), but hey they are freebie!

Just had dinner here for the first time 3 days ago & I can't stop thinking about all the delicious food we eat. My 2 little kids shared the pork cutlet & finished the entire dish. My other daughter had the BBQ short rib & left nothing but the bones on her plate. I had the Seafood Bibimbap & the flavors are unforgettable. The steamed dumplings were so flavorful. I wish I took a picture of our food but it was too good to stop for a picture. Loved the fact that they have complimentary ice cream. But above all the delicious food was the great staff working hard cooking in the back & the generous service the front of house gave. We were a larger part that took up the entire side of the restaurant & made us all feel at home. I can't want to go back.

This is a review of our experience on 9/12/25 Friday Reason for 1 star: Disrespectful, Unprofessional, Hair in food We really wanted to like this place, but our recent experience was so frustrating and disappointing that we will never return. My husband stopped by on his way home to place an order in person since we couldn't get through on the phone. Once there, he learned their phone and internet were down, which explained why. That part we understood. He placed the order and was asked to pay via Venmo. He confirmed the recipient with the owner and sent the money, but she didn't seem to know how to check her Venmo app. As she fumbled with her phone, the food came out, but instead of finishing the payment check, she rushed over to help a new group of customers -- leaving my husband standing there while the food sat on the counter. After another 5-10 minutes, a worker asked if they could hand him the food, and the owner actually yelled, "No, don't give him the food! I need to check Venmo!" Even after he showed both the Venmo confirmation screen and email receipt, she insisted she hadn't received it. Finally -- more than 30 minutes after ordering -- she suddenly said, "Oh, we got it!" and let him leave. By that point, my husband was so upset and frustrated with how poorly it was handled. To make matters worse, when I opened my beef intestine soup at home, I found a hair in it. That was the final straw. Between the lack of basic payment knowledge, the way the owner abandoned the transaction mid-check, the unnecessary delay, and the hygiene issue, this was an awful experience from start to finish. We tried to be patient and understanding, but left feeling disrespected and let down. Definitely not somewhere we'll return.

Happy to have found a place close by to satisfy my soondubu cravings! This is a mom and pop restaurant located next to a Korean supermarket in a somewhat busy plaza. The owner was so friendly and hospitable. After we ordered, she brought out the banchan and sauces. She asked if it was my first time and took the time to explain each of the banchan to me. The selection of banchan was huge - 8 to be exact! A few of them I've never had before, like the marinated peanuts and seaweed with cucumbers. All of them had different textures and flavors so they complimented the overall meal. Here's what we ordered: Tofu Combo #4 ($27) This combo came with Spicy BBQ Pork, our choice of protein and spice level for the tofu soup, and either white or purple rice. We chose mild clam soup with purple rice. The Spicy BBQ Pork came sizzling on a stone plate and the clam tofu soup was bubbling out of the stone bowl! It came with an egg on the side for us to crack into the tofu soup. The soup was comforting with just the right amount of heat and it was loaded with clams! The BBQ Pork was tender and marinated well with a nice kick of spice - a perfect pairing with the fluffy purple rice. Seafood Pancake ($25) This was a great appetizer to share as the pancake was huge! It was lightly crispy on the outside and the inside had small pieces of shrimp, clam and octopus throughout. It came with a dipping sauce on the side. Overall, the food was delicious and the service was exceptional! I appreciate the owner for making us feel at home and checking up on us periodically to make sure we were having a good meal. She even packed up our leftovers for us. She also told us about their complimentary self-serve ice cream station that they had by the doorway. They had strawberry and rocky road and it was a refreshing way to the end of our meal. I will definitely be back!

Ambiance (5/5): Walk right in and you'll see that it's on the small side, but a cute and simple restaurant with family vibes. Depending on the time of day, it can feel somewhat empty while at other times somewhat busy. Service (3/5): It's nothing too special, but the workers are always friendly. It's somewhat self serve. You order at the front and then you wait for them to call your order. Then you pick up your tray of food, eat, and place the trays towards the front when done. Food (5/5): Everything we have eaten here over the years is so yummy. Their hot stone bibimbap is chock-full of ingredients with just the right amount of sesame oil and flavor; we often have to pack some of it to go. Their army stew (budaejigae) is my absolute favorite, and I've compared it to a lot of other Korean stew places, some way pricier and this one still takes the cake. It has a wonderful roasted flavor from all the meats they put in and I love going for the ramen first. I always take extra to go since it's small but filling. The best part? Let's not forget that they have self serve all-you-can-eat banchan (side dishes) and they do not skimp on variety. There's your usuals like the napa kimchi, radish kimchi and fish cakes, but they also have mac salad, potato salad, japchae and other goodies which works well for your picky toddlers. Overall, this is a wonderful little restaurant that deserves a visit over and over when you're just craving some comfort korean food at decent prices.

We ordered the following: Bulgolgi Fries Garlic Steak Noodle Egg Cheese corn Ranking in best to so-so, I'd have to say is the steamed egg. Yes, I was surprised too. I thought the Bulgolgi fries would be number one. Sadly it's not. If you mess up steamed egg, ima gonna say no to the rest of your menu. I would order two next time and just stick to that. The cheese corn was okay, but compared to PaDak and other local Korean spot I say skip this. The cheese tasted weird to me and I did t like that it was also a kraft American cheese. As a cheese lover, I only expect that square cheese to be on a burger or cheese melt. The Bulgolgi Fries could serve 3 people. But it was drenched with sauce, and spicy sauce. Not enough Bulgolgi to pay $20. The cut of fries were this nd tasted like sweet potato. It just didn't fit my taste buds. The Garlic noodle okay. That's Al I have to say about that. I'm glad I finally tried this place, but I don't know if I would come back for anything on their menu. I would rather go next door or across the street.

We ordered the naengmyeon combo with spicy marinated pork and a side of soybean paste stew. The lady was nice when she seated us, but seemed a little bothered when we only ordered the above items, because she coldly asked "if that was all" and we said yes. She walked away then yells back asking if we wanted rice because rice wasn't included, and we said no. Despite the rough start with the vibe of the lady who took our order I was still hopeful the food itself would make up for it. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. I've never had naengmyeon that had so much chili flakes, and as someone who doesn't mind them, it was weird. The soybean paste soup was bland. And the side dishes were just okay. After the meal, I got really thirsty and my face was puffy so they are using msg. If it was a good meal, I wouldn't have minded the msg, but for food that was mediocre at best was not worth it. Although I won't be back, I did see people ordering for take out nonstop, so there must be some other dish that is giving them customers.

The staff have all been really nice and helpful with recommendations. Service is great. I started with the pork neck soup, and I really have come to like their hot stone bibimbap. Let it sit in the stone for 10 min and it'll get really crispy on the bottom, like Persian tadigh(crispy rice). The bulgogi and galbi are also fire. Try the boneless fried chicken, it's juicy and the breading is light, and the fried pork dumplings are delicious too. Their banchan is great, the radish and kimchi are flavorful and not sour at all. They are open until midnight too! I could legit eat here everyday. I brought my parents here and they loved the food and the service. I hope this place sticks around for the long haul. Give it a try!

The place seems to really show its age with the floors really dirty and the wood floors are showing a lot of wear and tear. We got there for an early dinner and the place was empty. The lady seemed tired or just not in a friendly mood. The food was still reasonably priced. Much better than the Tofu Chain's and food as good as I remember. I went with the short rib Tofu soup and it came with two nice size beef short ribs and the meat peeling off the bone. Ban Chan was good but could not eat a few of them because they had bean sprouts in it. Nice to see Chodang doing strong. Hopefully the next time back won't be a 3-4 year gap.

Expect it to be cold in there no matter the day or season - gotta keep you cool when you're eating hot soup! Tables can feel a bit close to each other depending on where you sit. And it does get busy during the usual nights & weekends so expect that. Overall, delicious food with a home cooked feel and good service. I'd say my only gripe is that parking can get busy, but there's plenty of parking throughout the plaza.

Hidden Gem Korean Spot - Near Cerritos Mall & Disney!…read more Just discovered this little Korean place near Cerritos Mall, and it's already a favorite. It's not the most obvious spot from the outside, but the moment I walked in, I knew I'd found something good. Came here specifically for their famous soondae, they have a $15.99 All Day Special. The special comes with a choice of soondae soup (or ox bone soup w/brisket and glass noodle), rice, and several banchan--easily enough for a full meal. I went with the mix version, which had two kinds of soondae plus generous slices of meat and innards. (They also have a soondae-only option.) The broth had clearly been simmered for a while--rich, deep, and warming all the way down. The soondae is handmade and incredibly clean-tasting--zero off-putting flavors. Also ordered the spicy braised short rib. Portion was solid. The beef ribs were huge and cooked until tender enough to fall off the bone. Spicy, savory, and the kind of thing you want to keep picking at. Lots of veggies too--pumpkin, carrot, potato, rice cake, mushroom--all soaked up that braising liquid and perfect over rice. Biggest surprise of the meal? The chive pancake. SO crispy! The edges were browned and crunchy, and that first bite--crunch--released this big hit of chive aroma. Honestly had me at the first bite. Every dish here feels thoughtful and comforting. It's the kind of spot you already want to go back to before you've even left. If you're into authentic Korean food or just happen to be near Cerritos Mall or Disney, definitely worth a stop. I'm already planning my next order.

Came here on a weeknight with a friend and there were other guests but it was not too busy. We were greeted and seated immediately. The menu has a lot of interesting dishes, especially the Tofu Soup section. We both ordered the Wild Sesame Seed Tofu Soup. Food came out pretty quickly, along with the banchan. The Tofu Soup was good. The sesame seed flavor was subtle. Not sure if that is the intention. We liked that it was served with purple rice. For the banchan, we were given an assortment of things, and we noted that the fritter/pancake and the cucumber kimchi were really good. Overall, giving Chung Dam Tofu a 4/5. Food and service were both good. The space no frills and pretty big with a good number of tables. Menu seems priced a bit higher than we are used to seeing, but if the other items are just as good or better, they are probably worth it. Would recommend to others and would return to try other menu items.

The first thing I noticed was how big the menu is -- lots of variety, which I liked. I ended up ordering the keto kimbap, sesame leaf kimbap, and tuna kimbap. The price per roll wasn't exactly cheap, but each one was packed with ingredients, so it felt worth it. The portions were generous too -- I ordered thinking it would be enough for two people, but honestly it could've fed three. The flavors were very clean and well-balanced overall. They also gave me some fish cake soup on the side when I asked, which was a nice touch. The only downside was the wait. It felt like it took about 20 minutes, probably because they were backed up with orders. That said, it seemed like a small, family-run place with just a couple people working, so it wasn't a huge deal. Overall, a really solid experience.
