Probably the best Bloody Mary I ever had. They called it Bloody Selena here. Not only does it come with side car but it comes with a chicken wing that's also on their small plate menu. Let me tell you the chicken was delicious! One of the main reasons I believe their Bloody Mary is one of the best is because each sip I was able to taste the small vegetable chunks that most bloody Mary's don't have. We had a waiter named Dick and he was one of the nicest waiters I ever had. He was very honest and what was good flavors for their beer slushy. They had so many cocktails we didn't know what to pick and Dick suggests delicious sweet cocktail called Maude which was really sweet! Truffle fries was good. The blue cheese that comes with the wings is one of the best but only the blue cheese in the cup. The blue cheese under their chicken wings mixed with chopped celery was really pungent. We also had the widow maker which was so good my girl who hates the fat in pork belly was able to eat their pork belly! If I could give this place 6/5 stars I would. One of my absolute favorite local restaurants to go to and my go to spot to take friends and family who are visiting from out of town. Not only is the staff so friendly and attentive, the food is phenomenal. One of my favorite dishes was the impossible meat banh mi (which I believe they took off during the revision of the menu) but hope to see them bring it back in the future, im not in anyway a vegan or vegetarian but could not tell they used some variation of impossible meat. Plenty of cocktail options to choose from, they legit have something for everyone. From the new menu I highly recommend the gnocchi & smashed fingerlings. read more

I tried the blueberry grilled chicken sandwich, it was really good! I love blueberry on grilled chicken, it's a surprisingly good combination. I also had the sovereign burger which was really good! This one was hard for me to rate. As a Christian, they go against my beliefs with the satanic imagery, the mention of wiccan throughout the menu and the loud death metal music that sounds satanic. So that part is obviously not my cup of tea. However, I am writing a review based on food, drinks, service and ambiance so for that I have to give the place a solid rating as it's only fair. I have been here twice, once for a lunch date with coworkers and then came another time for a dinner date. The food was great - both times I was very pleased. I had one drink there and was tasty. When I first moved here I heard this place was yummy and so we went with a friend for dinner and their dinner was delicious! I had their chicken dish, forgot what it was called exactly but I really enjoyed it. So definitely come here for a dinner. We go back on Mother's Day to try out their brunch that they only have on special occasions and it was sooo bad. I got the breakfast bagel and the bun felt like it wasn't toasted and came out cold, even though there were toasted marks on it, but was it was very bland. My fiancé got the French toast and for how much it was, I think like $12 it was literally 2 pieces of plain French toast, boring and tasteless he said. My friend got the chicken with biscuits and gravy and her chicken actually had flavor to it but she had better the previous day at The Lazy Dog. We also had a bartender that we accidentally annoyed because there was a miscommunication with the mimosas and what a strawberry mimosas was ... it's a strawberry liquor that they use, and it is not sweet. Not going to sugar coat it just because I love Sovereign. Changes come with disappointment and in this case that's an understatement. I'm not even going to bring up the food crime of removing the wicken chicken, rotating tacos, and rotating risotto. I got the cheeseburger. Price is solid for what it is, but presentation as you can see by the picture leaves much to the imagination. Charge $2 more and dress up the plate a little bit with a side. Overall flavor solid. 14/20. Would get again. The kids menu took a dive as well. No side options for kids is ridiculous. No fruit anymore. No fries. Bummer. Hard to mess up Mac. Daughter gave it two thumbs up. My wife got the chicken and frites. Ok so this is where I get frustrated with the changes to the menu. Server told us while we were about to order this can take 20-30 mins. That's fine, but as a courtesy to the patrons it's probably a good idea to post that on the menu. Half chicken is now gone and replaced with a small chicken breast. Fries come with (originally a $6 side) and you get a chicken breast for $20. Insane price point for soggy fries sitting under a chicken breast which was cut in half allowing all the juices to leave the chicken before it got to the table. The fries that weren't soggy were cold. 13/20. Would not order again. All in all, beyond disappointed with the quality and price hikes for what's left of the menu. Probably won't return for anything more than drinks in the future. Their drink menu never misses. read more

Disappointed. Service was very slow. We were patient. Menu is very small, you would expect each item to be high quality. Crispy pork belly app at $12 was three bites. This was very good at least. Tostadas were ok, had to order two orders for table. Our table ordered a half chicken, pork belly sandwich and two sirloin steaks. To give us a $3 flat iron sirloin for $33 a plate was acceptable had it been good. The steak was beyond tough and very small. I'm not sure where the prices align with the quality or quantity or who makes this menu but try to do better! We will not be back. read more

Blocks people on social media that provide feedback. I was argued with when I said their plant based options were lacking compared to their previous menus. I emailed Minor Threat, but I never heard anything back. It used to be my favorite restaurant in the area. But them immediately getting defensive because I didn't agree that vegetable appetizers that were designed to be shareables are not a substantial meal for a plant based eater. What really bugs me is they took my feedback to heart and changed the menu! What a wonderful place! The decor was very nice and tasteful. The cocktails were good, and the food was even better! I got their French fries and it was tasty and they weren't just a "French fry" they made them unique and flavorful. I also had the Roasted Beets appetizer. It was delicious. Also ordered tacos, delicious, with a little kick, but not too spicy. For dessert I got their donut and dipped it in chocolate, so delicious. Everything was made to perfection! The whole place was elegant and organized. They are located right off the strip of downtown, so you can shop before or after. They also had a cute outside seating area too. I want to start by saying the food and drinks were phenomenal.  From the sangria to the kids' meals, our main course, sides, and to the dessert donuts at the end. 5 stars. The only thing we found confusing was the menu itself. It's described as a "family style " dinner menu, but the main course items on the menu are not plates that my husband and I would ever share. For example, a cheeseburger, steak, chicken, and fish filet are all sold a la carte. These are not family style portions, easily shareable, nor are they inexpensive when buying per person a la carte. I will say the sides (beef fat fries, brussel sprouts, fingerlings) were generous portions and shareable, but not the main entree. So I guess it's a hybrid of both? Order your own main entree but share the sides? Having been to many different restaurants that serve true family style plates, this menu just had a very unusual concept that I hope they adjust along the way. Have you ever heard of a 2.5% credit card processing fee at a restaurant? This restaurant does it and kind of sneaks it out of you. No mention of it on the bill nor on the menu. It just kind of gets added on after they run your card. It was good food, the server was on the rude side. If they are petty enough to charge the 2.5% credit card processing fee, maybe do a better job of posting the requirement. That way it doesn't appear they are just stealing $5 from you! My friend and I stopped by on a whim during a walk because the patio looked so cute! The staff was nice and we had the best waiter ever! My friend got the Bloody Mary that comes with a sidecar and it is huge! She said it was the best Bloody Mary she's ever had. We both got the Wiccan chicken and thank god they brought it back because it is the most delicious chicken I've ever had! I'd also like to mention how cute the plates were! Went for their New Year's brunch today and it was AMAZING!!! The Bloody Mary was delicious and huge, Wiccan chicken, chilaquiles and steak & eggs were all spot on perfect. The steak was perfectly medium, so soft and perfectly seasoned. All the eggs were exactly how we ordered them and super fresh and flavorful. It was legitimately a perfect brunch with zero critiques. I hate to do this because I normally love sovereign's food, but the implementation of the new menu has definitely left a lot to be desired. Dishes are now served "family style" to create more of a tapas experience. In reality, it just makes you order more dishes/side dishes, and spend more money on the same amount of food you would have otherwise. I mean, the burger doesn't even come with fries. The old saying "don't fix what isn't broken" definitely applies here. My wife and I were definitely let down by our last visit and likely won't be back unless something changes. read more

A redwood empire Pipedream Bourbon, journeyman Apple Cider Liqueur, pecan maple syrup, & ginger beer. Our server today also did a great job and the space is just gorgeous. Definitely on the pricey side. The Wiccan Chicken was average, The house burger was average as well. All in all, worth the check out and I would go again. Arrived at 7:30pm, seated & we greeted by our server Frank T, as he was super nice. Tried to order off of the menu and we were informed that the entree we ordered was out and not available. So we ordered something else, no big deal. Then 2 of the entree's that we ordered we were informed that it was still available, although it was now being served over red cabbage & mashed potatoes! The food came out in a reasonable time, although someone needs to inform the chef to lax on the Salt! Everything was super salty, with exception of the Ahi Tuna. We keep trying in hopes it gets better, but unfortunately just not one of our "go to" favorites we'd like it to be. Group of 4 were there on a Saturday early evening (4pm) before it was busy, drinks & apps are always good but that's usually where it stops. Service was slow, took a table an hour to get our actual dinner. One of us ordered Wiccan Chicken and requested the dijon sage cream be put on the side, sauce was not on the side when it arrived to table. Another one of us ordered their buffalo risotta (special of the day) which was cold, great flavor but would have been much more enjoyable if it was a warmer temperature. The server finally realized once she noticed the chicken was not being touched that it had not come out the way it was requested and offered to make a new plate, however we were in route to another engagement that we needed to be at by 6pm so because it had already taken so long for our order we did not have the extra time to spare to wait for it to be redone. My first experience was terrible here and it was a very simple and easy one to have fixed... a friend and I had dinner (I forget where) then stopped over at this place. I had heard many great things about the place, as I used to be part of the craft beer community. We head to this place and walk in. We are carded and the desk staff/bouncer informs us that they just made last call and to head to the bar. We walk up and the bartender denies us a beer when we ask if we can get a beer menu. We state that we were just told that it's last call and only want a beer each. We are told "sorry, come back tomorrow and we will serve you." We weren't drunk or rude. It wasn't 5 min until closing time. The bartender still was serving drinks, literally to the person who were sat next to at the bar as we asked for a menu. We were polite, so I don't understand what happened here. The next day we instead went to NWB (next whiskey bar) and spent over $600 on rare bourbons and dinner. read more

Once upon a time I was a Sovereign regular. Genuinely, I was probably planted at the bar having dinner a few times a week prior to moving to California. Now that I've moved back to the Chicago area I wanted to revisit my old fave, especially considering I hadn't eaten at the new location. So starting there let me just say that the new location is a big vibe shift. I think what I appreciated about the former space was the intimate atmosphere however the new space really gives me a modern industrial feeling, and I love it. Think it adds a level of new complexity to the ambiance. Food wise the roasted romaine salad is a hit! I was also happy to see that three of my old faves the running man, the grandpa sangria and the relentless are on the menu. I was also able to try the sliders this go round and let me just say that this meal was so unexpectedly filling. The sliders themselves are cooked to perfection and the flavor combination is great. I also appreciate the seasoning on the Cajun fries. Coming back to Sovereign was an awesome experience. Can't wait to continue trying different items on the menu. read more
