This place is decent option in the city to get your eyebrows done. It is usually quite busy on the weekends, but the line moves quick enough. It's in a pretty unassuming location in FiDi, and you will need to buzz in 52 to get through to the inside. The staff is nice and professional. I usually go to Urs Threading in Walnut Creek but that's too far from Oakland. I was in the city and decided to try Sovan's on a whim, and I'm so glad I did! I came in right before closing and Rachelle was so patient, friendly, and professional. I love that they have a chart of different eyebrow styles so you can pick the look you want. Other places (including Urs) is based off the threader's discretion and personal opinion. Rachelle listened to my preferences (rounded, thicker, natural shape, minimal cleanup) and she was super thorough with the full facial threading. She got all the stray hairs and peach puzz, and the process was super gentle! Other places tend to hurt way more. They also offer a stamp card. I'll definitely come back. read more

When i showed up at 6:25PM, they told me to take a seat & then proceeded to tell me that I will have to come back tomorrow because they are too busy at the moment or I can wait a long time. This threading studio is super tiny, only two chairs. You have to find the code for the studio using the directory downstairs to get buzzed in. Once buzzed in, walk up the stairs to the mezzanine where you will probably find a short line ahead of you. Although threading is much more expensive in SF than in NYC ($20 compared to $12 or less) my brows came out amazing and the threading was painless. read more

For tinting, I was new to this and initially they were far too bold for my face so the gal kept toning them down, no resistance, until I was satisfied. Came here as a walk in for eyebrow threading. Was fitted in right away with I appreciated (I a send a message on Yelp and was told I could come at my desired time). The salon is located in a building that has multiple beauty units. I had to buzz in by looking up the salon on the intercom and it was #52. They are located on the Mezzanine floor (1 floor up), room M01. The owner was extremely welcoming. I waited a bit for her to finish with a customer. I got my eyebrows threaded and tinted and loved the result! She used the Natural Brown tint and left it on for 10 minutes. The pic is after that 10 minutes FYIs: 1. Walk ins are possible for threading (eyebrows, while face etc), but in general appointments are recommended and required for some services like waxing 2. $1 charge extra for credit card use so bring cash if you can 10/10 recommend ! read more

A friend suggested I get my eyebrows threaded for a different shape! I made an appointment for Friday evening the day before via Yelp DM--such convenience! I got to the building and paged Sovan's, who opened the door. It's located in a building in FiDi with lots of beauty work so if you wanted to get your hair cut in the same building, you could! Walk straight forward and it's up the stairs on the mezzanine level. I was immediately welcomed and sat down in the comfy, cute chair and stared at the ceiling as the threads grabbed unwanted hairs, pulling them by the roots. It was quick, made a difference, and even when I didn't know exactly what I wanted, I got what I needed. Prices are reasonable, service is personable and wonderful, there's a rewards card to get stamped each time you go, and you will be in and out in under 15 minutes! MAKE SURE YOU DONT HAVE SARITA. This place has been my go to since I move to SF and everyone has always done an excellent job, until today. They hired a new employee SARITA who has been here for a few months and it was my first time working with her. I was clear on that I only wanted a clean up. She took longer than usual, and kept asking me to hold my brows multiple times, which has never happened before. When I opened my eyes I was horrified as I realized she had made them thinner. I ASKED FOR A CLEAN UP AND SHE NOT ONLY THINNED IT BUT GAVE IT A NEW SHAPE. I asked her why she did that when I never asked for anything but a clean up and she proceeded to admit that she in fact, did make them thinner and insisted they look good. IT IS NOT YOUR JOB TO DECIDE WHATS GOOD FOR ME, BUT TO FULFILL MY REQUEST. SEE PHOTO FOR REFERENCE!!! When a client gives you specific instructions, you follow it. You don't go off the rails to create something that YOU deem is good, especially when it comes to beauty. Every eyebrow threader I've had would ask me if I wanted it thin and I would say no, or they would understand when I say clean up and JUST CLEAN UP. My eyebrows don't look like my usual self and I am devastated because there is a chance they won't grow back the way they used to. I'm worried that it would grow back as sparse hairs. She decided on her own that a brow shape better suited me and THINNED THEM! I LIKE MY THICK BROWS AND THEY HAVE STAYED THAT WAY MY ENTIRE LIFE! There needs to be a clear expectation that employees should always ask the client if it is okay to make alternations outside of what we want. This is absolutely unacceptable. read more

Ever since I moved to the city, Sovan's has been my to go place after reading all the reviews and experience. Rashila is so welcoming and wonderful and always listens to how I want my eyebrows and keeps them thick the way I like it. I also really liked Jiya but heard her moved. I went in today and thought since Rashila and Jiya were so great it's okay if another person at Sovan's did my eyebrows. However, this new person did not listen to anything I asked for. I let her know, please keep my eyebrow mountain eyebrow shape and keep it thick and please don't make it look like a rainbow. She said okay. However, she did not listen to anything I mentioned, she made one of my eyebrows very thick and rainbow shape while the other eyebrow super thin and flat. Needless to say, I'm very very disappointed. The benefit brow bar closed down so I tried to find a new place today. I paid ahead on their website. Wasn't clear how to leave a tip afterwards. I asked but I don't think she understood. I have a feeling the lady who did my brows was not the owner and didn't really know much about brow tinting. The dye looked like a box that was like an old school brand. Ok. The process was very very quick. Nothing like benefit would do. Usually I leave benefit with a very clear difference, a full even looking brow from side to side. She very lightly applied dye. No Vaseline around edges. And she left it on like a minute or less. First time around couldn't tell anything was even done so I asked her to try again and wait longer. Second time same thing but a tiny bit of dye stayed. At that point I had to go. I feel kinda bad I like supporting small businesses but I wouldn't go back for tinting. read more

She was fine but sort of painfully slow and the job was just ok (i didn't notice a huge difference). I don't like that they charge $1 if you use Apple Pay / credit card. Rashila deserves a 5 star! There's no doubt about that. Every time I want to get my eyebrows threaded, I plan to go here and message ahead to confirm availability and that Rashila will be present. The ONE time (last week) when I text messaged the same number as always, I mistakenly assumed Rashila would be present. Totally my fault. I accept that. When I got there, it was someone else who was lying on the massage table because it turns out she wasn't doing well after getting her second COVID shot. I'm still okay. She asked me if I was okay with her doing my eyebrows, and I said "as long as you stay away from the brow line" and just clean it up. She agreed. 20 minutes later, I look and she definitely messed up the entire thing. She did NOT listen when I said stay away from the brow line. Her threading skills showed that she couldn't even make, rather maintain, my straight line. All she had to do was cleanup the stray hairs. I am extremely disappointed. The photos show how badly she messed up both the bottom line and the top line. Again, Rashila has always provided 5 star quality threading. read more
