I have been going to Blink for the past 2 years and I have to say that these ladies are truly Goddesses of eyebrows. They only tweeze and thread; no waxing. They happen to be the only place I could find that lightens eyebrows; which is very useful if you want to dye your hair a lighter shade and your eyebrows are left being too dark. They do not wax because it is not as precise. You will never leave with an unnaturally thin brow. I once went to LaBelle and left with a totally different shape and it was the thinnest I had ever had. I used to go to Claudia but she has left. Today I just got a makeup lesson from Anna (who is the owner) it was 2 hours long and extremely detailed. She showed me ways to use concealer that I have never heard of before. I bought a few of their products such as an intense vitamin c treatment for lips and a primer for the eyes. However, they ask you to bring in your own makeup kit and work with what you have so you don't feel pressured to buy a bunch of products. My Adventure With Eyelash Extensions Do Not get them Wet You should wear Goggles in the shower or when you wash your face. Do not sleep on your side because you'll push them in towards your face. Never use oils around your eyes to remove eye makeup Oh and never curl or use mascara on them. She told me all of this AFTER I had them put on ! I went in on a Saturday and observing all the rules...I had about ten left the following Saturday. So if you have money to burn and are ready for the hassle of a lifetime then be my guest . This is the problem . Although an excellent idea the eyelash adhesive used must be safe to use around the eyes. The current glue is safe but just isn't strong enough to hold these lashes on for very long. Now I'm sure they would love to use stronger adhesives but it wouldn't be approved for use in the eye area. The FDA can't have someones eyes glued shut, however, then they would have lashes that would last a very long time ! Tricky... As Bridget Jones said about wearing either the sexy lacy panties or the girdle that would make her look two sizes smaller designed for grannies the world over...Very tricky . And I don't even want to tell you what I paid because you would absolutely think I was a complete fool. Just call them, they'll tell you. I just thought of a great party game. Our friends have to apply eyelashes to each other. Male or Female. In the end I'm sure everyone would be hysterical and drunk. They'll figure out the glue situation someday and until then don't be stupid and waste money like I did. I made an appointment with Tracy based on all the great reviews on yelp. I was very happy with my brows. I've had other people do my brows before as well and was equally happy with them too. The only negative thing I would say about Tracy is that she brushed my one eyebrow so hard and so much that it turned completely red and burned for a few hours after the appointment. Being the tough girl that I am, I didn't say anything at first, but it got so bad I had to say something. I have never had this experience with another brow stylist before. I was soon to find out that the technical name for my eyebrow problem was "weak tails" I met with Tracy. What a very very nice gal Tracy is. She has a healthy appreciation for the beauty of trees and grew up in a small town, so of course I liked her right away. My first visit, she plucked me, trimmed me, told me where to grow, showed me what to fill in, and how to do it. Within the first few visits, my eyebrows grew. She plucked, trimmed, shaped, and instructed, and every time my eyebrows looked better and better. Six months later I am extremely happy with the way my eyebrows look. I still go every five weeks for maintenance, but feel Batool's work and instructions have completely changed my look and made it ten times easier to do my makeup. Elaine is very detailed. She asked me about my previous experience about waxing. I been waxing my eyebrows since the late 90's. I told her that it has been 3 years I haven't got my eyebrows done professionally. She asked me my ideal brow shape or if I like it arched. I explain to her that I used to have my eyebrows arched. But, now I want it slightly arched and not too thin. Typically "Asian" eyebrow. Wtheck I mean by that? A brow that look more natural and not too dramatic. She also informed me that they do not wax and the reason why because many have very sensitive skin which causes irritation, redness, and bumps. I was willingly to try something new. Threading and tweezing. Every piece of hair pulled out one by one. Shaping and trimming. I believe she told me before hand so I know what to expect. She also thin one side of my brow to make it look more even with my other side of eyebrow (which have bald spot). Elaine is very gentle. It did not hurt one bit compare to waxing which sting. She recommend a brow growing serum. I was kinda skeptical because for the past 4 years I've been trying to grow my brows back but, no luck. She said, 90% show signs of growth within 2 months. So, I bought it to give it a try. She also found a color pencil brow to match with my freshly colored red hair. I didn't want to use more new product yet. So, probably get it next time. Once everything was complete. My brows look so amazingly good. I didn't think it'll come or this nice! Elaine told me one stand of hair can make a big difference on how your eyebrow look. Which I agree. The one stand of hair that bothered her. She's a perfectionist and want you to be satisfied with the brow she shaped. I'm very happy with the outcomes. I am Croatian. That means a thick mono brow that tormented me through my youth. In high school, i plucked my brows to half their size (lengthwise--yes), and then went through a Benefit waxing stage which was always a disaster, leaving them pencil thin. For the past 4 years or so I have been plucking my brows on my own, terrified to let anyone go near them, lest they wax half of them off (I have since embraced my bushy brows). I really like this place because they are essentially dedicated to 1 craft: shaping brows. You never appreciate really skillfully done brows until you get them mangled by someone. That's happened to me plenty of times! So I think Blink is pretty awesome. A huge plus is the fact that just about everyone who works here seems to be on the same "level". What I mean is, no matter who you end up with, you will get a certain level of skill. My schedule is so hectic, I often have to call to see if Blink can squeeze me in the same day or next (basically, I'm chasing cancellations). So I've had 3 different people so far, Claudia, Kia (or Tia), and Tracy. They all really knew what they were doing, and were very attentive. I have been happy with the results after each appointment. Another plus is the fact that they do not wax. They pluck and trim, which takes more time, but I think is more precise. If you need parking, the Sutter garage is only a few blocks away. I guess the con is it's on the pricer end ($45 for initial, $35 for maintenance), but I think good brows are worth it. Another con is that it is allegedly hard to get an appointment. I just had an eyebrow appointment here with Kia and I loved it! She's super thorough and an issue all other eyebrow stylists brought up did not cause an issue for her at all. She is clearly very skilled and knows what she's doing. I've never paid $50 for an eyebrow appointment but I thought it was well worth it, especially since in the past these activities have always been hit or miss for me. I normally just wait until my eyebrows grow completely out so I figured, any form of shaping, even mediocre is better than nothing =P Now that I've found blink, I'm thinking that won't be a problem anymore! Kia is also super easy to talk to and really easy to connect with. She taught me how to draw into my eyebrows. I use to always fail at this activity. I love it! Best customer service I have ever received from an eyebrow service! I cannot begin to recommend Rocky enough. I had been growing out my brows for about 6 weeks when I came into my appointment. Rocky greeted me and began to get straight to work. She began by assessing my eyebrows, explained what she wants improved on and what she could do for me in this appointment. This made me very comfortable so I wouldn't walk out with any surprises. We've all been there! She was so generous with her time and extremely meticulous, taking steps back to double check, and handing me the mirror to make sure I was okay with keeping certain brows. I was so excited to hear that Sara has returned to Blink. Sara is absolutely amazing with brows and make up. I'm asian and have a hard time getting my make up done for special events. Sara has a lot of experience working on asian faces. She also gave me a make up lesson which made a huge difference. After the make up lesson, random people (cashiers at store, waitress/hostess at dinner, etc) started telling me I have beautiful eyes. Honestly, I never received compliments on my eyes for the first 30 years of my life. If you want to look your best, visit Sara. Anna is also great. I have stick straight asian lashes. After I moved here, I was looking for someone new to do my eyebrows. For me, this is always a hard task since my eyebrows are a bit tough. I have to say the reviews did not disappoint. Kia is awesome! In fact, the entire staff I have dealt with are very kind. But, back to Kia and her awesome eyebrow abilities for now... I went in with a huge mess for eyebrows. After the move, I saw someone that ruined them for me and the growth of my eyebrow hair was incredibly slow. My eyebrows were growing out so they were not in good shape. I had some gaps and pretty much no shape. I went to see Kia and she was very patient with me. She listened to everything I had to say and talked it out with me. After my eyebrows were done, I was so pleasantly surprised. Kia was able to create a bit of a shape to my unmanageable eyebrows while leaving all the necessary hair there to continue to grow. I have been seeing her for about six months (or more now) and my eyebrows have been improving ever since. I truly believe if you go see Kia you will not be disappointed. However, I will say I have seen other people's eyebrows that leave blink and all the people I have seen look fabulous, so if you feel someone else may be a better fit I am sure they will be good too. For me, Kia is amazing! The one thing I will say is that it is pricey to get your brows done here. $50 for the first shaping and $40 for each subsequent appointment. Having tried most of the highly rated brow places in the city, I can't believe I missed Blink. That said, this was the 2nd most expensive brow job. $50 + tip. Claudia reminded me of Angelina Jolie so it was unnerving when she stared at me. Since I was hugely intimidated, small talk was awkward. (I'm not worthy!) She did spend close to 45 min on my brows- tweezing, trimming, even threading. So, I don't feel ripped off or anything. Brows look ok (maybe a bit too thin & too arched... might just be a personal preference thing.) But not sure if they're totally worth the money... when I pay more, I expect more. They weren't quite even, & when I came home, I noticed some small semi-ingrown hairs I had to clean up. Plus her tweezing hurt! Also not a fan of that salon environment. I give Tracy 5 stars and the ambiance 3-4(it felt a little cold design wise), and the price of the brow pencil I bought was a little high ($21) so 3 for that. I do love the fact that Tracy 'taught' me what and where to pluck and when and where not to. I was so amazed after coming here. My eyebrows are naturally quite thin and so was always reluctant about getting them done and wasting my money. I am not a high maintenance gal (stop laughing!) when you compare me to others. I don't get manicures or pedicures because I'm pretty good at doing that on my own. I'm not hairy so no waxing. Of course my hair has to be cut somewhere so that's a given. And up until a couple of days ago, I had never had my brows shaped. The building it's located in is an old school SF type, gorgeous architectural detailing throughout. The elevators are a trip because it's basically a gilded cage that slides up and down very quickly. You see the wall of the elevator shaft glide by. The space that Blink is in is small but it suits them. Nearly everything is white but it still manages to be cozy feeling. There are 4 chairs on one side and the waiting area consists of 2 wide chairs. The receptionists were friendly and the overall vibe of the place was festive in that chatty salon way. Tracy was great! She's funny and chatty and a little crazy too. But it's the good kind of crazy. She did an amazing job on my brows. She evened them out and trimmed them and now I look so polished and chic. Kind of grown up or something. She talked to me about filling in and I confessed that I hardly ever did that because I have a habit of touching my eyebrows throughout the day. And that I only realized when I would fill in my my brows and find makeup on my fingers, not to mention the smudges around my eyes. We both laughed about that. I asked her about eyelash extensions and she was totally truthful about how super high maintenance they were. They last a long time and look good(at that price they should) but it means that you should not get them wet. Showering with goggles is not my idea of fun. This city was ripe for a studio dedicated to brows and lashes, with great additional services, such as threading (I hear great things about their makeup, as well). I had my appt. with Tracy. She was about 15 min. late, but was constantly apologizing for it, so I forgave her. I had waited about 2 weeks before I could get in, so you can imagine what my brows looked like. There were many a day where I thought, "hey, it'll grow back soon enough. I'll just clean them up." But then what would the appt. be for. From the very beginning, Tracy told me what she was doing step by step. As a person who will maintain my own brows, it was really helpful and appreciated to know what she was doing. Granted, I won't be trimming my own brows, for fear of cutting a hole in them, but I now know my line to follow. She painstakingly trimmed my brows, brushed them out, then trimmed them again. Then she went, pretty much, one by one and cut each hair individually. Gotta give her extra points for dedication. At the end, she even offered to put sunscreen on my face since I was going to the Giants game that afternoon. That's definitely worth 1 star all by itself. I definitely recommend this place. Yelpers, you never fail me. When I walked into this place, I was a bit startled. It's definitely not as posh as my usual spa (though just as expensive) and looked like a bunch of makeup artists crammed into a tiny room working on people sitting close together in chairs. Which, essentially, is what it is. I would possibly have bolted had I not read the reviews here telling me it would all be worth it. And it was. Tracy gave me gorgeous, full, shapely brows that need almost no pencil to look fabulous. She's also a fun girl and a good conversationalist. My eyebrow search has ended successfully. I will be going back soon. Way, way better work than any of the other places I tried, and no waxing either. Highly recommended. read more
