Wow, mass confusion eye center is what this place should be called. I was told by the lady working the front counter I was paid in full on the date of my appointment. I left the facility under this impression, However, this is not the case. An entire month later, I'm now getting emails stating I still have a balance. I tried calling today to straighten this out, and the billing lady sounds like she doesn't want to investigate what the other employee told me. This place has poor communication amongst the employees, and poor communication to their customers. Not only was constantly referred to sir on numerous occasions during my visits( after asking them to stop calling me this). I'm now sent a bill for services after I was deemed paid in full. I'm not returning to this place, this is poor customer service. read more

I've really enjoyed coming here for quite a few years now, but they have a masking rule, so if you want to be a patient you have to wear a mask during your entire time inside. They don't take into account vaccination status, prior infectin, etc. I understand it has nothing to do with the employees, which are all fantastic, but corp forcing this rule means I'll find another provider. I don't want to sit masked for 2 hours when it's unnecessary and anti-science, per the CDC's own findings on mask efficacy. Like I stated previously, fantastic staff, amazing Dr. , but I can't I'm good conscience give money to a place keeping nonsense Covid rules in place that are counter to all we know. BEWARE!! I saw Dr. Roper because I take plaquenil and have not had my eyes dilated in 5 years. ( I'm supposed to go every 6 months due to the possibility of plaquenil toxicity. ) After I finished a series of tests performed by in-training employees who were each coached the entire time on how to do their job, I then saw the main scammer, Dr. Roper. Dr. Roper comes into the exam room and starts by asking me "why are you here?" I explained, as I did on the new patient paperwork that he clearly took no time to read, that I was there for the plaquenil eye exam and I'm having difficulty seeing even with glasses. Dr. Roper then asked if I did the "tracking eye exam" where I would have "pushed buttons". I said no. He said "oh I must have forgotten to check that off" and then checks it off on the computer - I never did this test during the entire time I was in the office but I'm sure he will he paid for that. Then, he spends 15 seconds looking at my eyes in the dark and concludes "everything looks great! See you in a year!" But before leaving, he asks what my diagnosis is and "if it's rheumatoid arthritis"- because (in his words) "the insurance pays for that". So, not only did he check a box to ensure he would be paid for an exam I was not given, he also wanted to make sure he would be reimbursed for the shotty in-training exams and never addressed the issue of my not BEING ABLE TO SEE. Also, he wouldn't even give me my updated prescription because that would "require another appointment costing $52", but made sure to let me know the new prescription is "pretty close" to the prescription I have now. Please don't put your time, energy, or money toward this scam. I will now be going elsewhere to get the actual tests I need done, as well as filing a Medicaid grievance, and writing his licensing board. read more

Southwestern Eye in Tempe, AZ is a great place to go for Eye Treatment. We went there to have my lady's eyes examined for 3 different problems, and so we were quite concerned about the prognosis. I have to say that from the moment we stepped into the Eye Center, we were impressed with the cleanliness of the facility, the short waiting period to be seen, and the positive and cheerful attitudes of the Staff. Our initial screener was very knowledgeable, answered all of my lady's questions and concerns, which really took the edge off of having to have eye treatment altogether. After all of the initial exams and tests were completed, we got to meet the Good Doctor. Very pleasant and reassuring, he put us at ease concerning any urgency or apprehension we had about her condition. He assured us that the cataracts were early on and could advance further before it would be necessary to remove them. He also referred us to an Eyelid Specialist to have a minor irregularity corrected. He did let us know that she should probably get her glasses replaced, with a bit stronger pair, to offset any vision problems she may be experiencing. Kind of surprised when he said that this office could do that for us, but that it would be less expensive at Walmart or Lens Crafters, giving us less costly references at the loss of opportunity for Southwestern's bottom line. I had an appointment October 29th (Friday) on October 2nd (Monday) I called and canceled my order for contacts & glasses. It is Nov 13th and I still have not gotten my money back. I get bounced around from billing to Chris, in the optical department. Chris said originally that he submitted my information to his manager for the refund, billing said there is nothing in my chart showing that the refund was approved or submitted. I've called every day- no one can give me my money back. I've been told emails were sent out to have a manager call me back and no one has ever called me back. I called again for the 100th time this morning and I keep getting told the same thing. Another email was sent out. I have never been to this eye center before. I have only been to places that tend to offer more in the way of glasses but maybe not real ophthalmology exams. I wanted some thing that had some gravitas behind it. Other than a LensCrafters. Not to ding a LensCrafters. The office was easy to locate. Very efficient check in. The pre-exams were done and then I met with the doctor. He made time to listen to my concerns as well as expressing his own. I left knowing exactly what issues I had and how I could take care of them before the next exam. The short term drops prescribed seemed to help almost immediately. read more

I work a job, that provides me insurance.. great.. but what is not great is not being able to use said insurance.. First, the phone number one calls to make an appointment must be a location that is a pretty glum place to work and the staff is happy to listen to you suffer.. I booked an appointment last month (March), the only appointment they could offer was in May...which was more then a month out. Fine OK, I get it they are busy, and this isn't an emergency..BUT there was zero empathy for the time.. pretty much if you want to visit an office the fact they have at least a 30 day wait is your problem.. sadly two days prior to my appointment (April 29), I had to cancel for a work function. So I called and the woman on the other end of the line couldn't care and offered me an appointment, again more then 30 days out.. they didn't offer another office, another doctor nothing, just an "oh well, this is what we have".. I called and made an eye appointment for my diabetic eye exam and to get my prescription renewed for glasses. That was a positive experience. Now onto when it goes south. The day before my appointment I was emailed a pre check in email where I was informed that not only would I have to pay the $60.00 copay for the diabetic exam but an additional 52.00 for the prescription exam. So totalling $112.00 then the doctor didn't listen to anything I had to say and got very negative when I informed him I was just there for the exam and prescription and would be purchasing my new Eyewear online from Zenni.com I will unequivocally never go back there and I will warn everyone I know to stay away. They are very deceptive with the pricing so be sure you ask lots of questions. The paperwork I received said $595 per eye for cataract surgery. Then, a week before the appointment I went in to pay and was told it was almost $5000. They never mentioned the facility fee, physician fee or any of the other fees at my other appointments. And, it's not in any of their paperwork. They tried to blame my insurance company saying that I had a high deductible policy and there was no way they could know that. But, I they never mentioned the fees to me for me to have a chance to tell them that I have a high deductible and that it would all be out of pocket. I asked for them to do both eyes at the same time to cut the additional fees in half. Previously the dr had told me they didn't usually do both at the same time because the insurance wouldn't cover it. He said occasionally they would if someone paid out of pocket. But now that I was requesting it because I was paying out of pocket, he said no. If wasn't in dire need of this surgery right now, I would definitely go somewhere else where they are more honest and transparent... read more

I have seen at least a dozen ophthalmologists in several states so I am very familiar with how this usually goes. I saw Dr. Pfister. I drove from Peoria so it was a trek for me, then when we got there my paperwork had to be scanned; the wait to have the tech do the vision test was 40 min. We then went to the waiting groom for another 15 min to see Dr. Pfister. If you have rare, or difficult to manage corneal disease I would recommend you look elsewhere. His demeanor was off putting, he was condescending and unpleasant. For me the biggest red flag was when Dr. Pfister, who said he did not know how to fit scleral lenses told me to use preservatives to help with my dry eye. Anyone with scleral lenses knows that you are supposed to use preservative free products! He probably looked at my eyes for 2-3 min, then he said my corneal transplant, that I had 4 years ago was, "OK, but not perfect." No ophthalmologist has ever said such a thing in the 4 years since then. He had nothing to say about my other issues. On the bright side, the front desk staff was nice! read more

Brought my son here to see Dr. Roper for a lazy eye issue. Dr. Roper took his time throughout the examination and determined surgery would be necessary to correct the issue. We appreciated his expertise and care during the exam. My son was also able to order a pair of glasses from the optical department. Lana was excellent in ensuring the glasses came quickly and ordering exactly what was needed. I was impressed about all of the precautions this office took to keep everyone safe and everyone did it with the utmost kindness and respect. They have a really great eyeglass selection too! First of all my eye doctor, Dr Roper is fantastic. The fact that he has the same eye issues I do make it easy for him to understand what I'm going through. He and his assistant Ashley are awesome! Unfortunately the rest can not be said about the support staff in the office. They are very unfriendly bordering on rude. Lastly, their phone service is awful if you need to speak with a live person. If you care about your eyes, do not go here. Many of the doctors that work here are incompetent or sketchy.* Years ago I dodged a bullet when I avoided surgery at this chicken coup. Staff largely thinks they are better than you, and if you ever say or do anything that doesn't follow scripted patient interactions they will find a way to make your stay very unwelcome. dr. Campion performed cataract surgery on my left eye over 14 months ago. Continual pain and other problems with my eye since then. Saw Dr. Campion several times after surgery, he could not find anything wrong. Saw Dr. Peterson after that, he found nothing wrong. I guess they cover each other for their surgical mistakes. Finally Dr. Peterson said to just use over the counter eye drops. When I asked him how long, he said "however long it takes". After a year of using eye drops, I still had the same problem. I made another appointment to see Dr. Campion. I arrived 10 minutes prior to my appointment and was told there were 5 people ahead of me, about a 2 to 3 hour wait. There have always been long wait times in the past. This was just ridiculous. It seems the scheduling department is no better at their jobs than the doctors are at theirs. These people seem to care nothing about you, only your money (or your insurance company's money). After you pay them they don't care what happens or how much they waste your time. They seem to have no interest in treating people with the respect we deserve. HOW DARE THEY WASTE OUR TIME LIKE THIS!!! Due to horrible scheduling practices and doctors that are not capable of finding (or admitting to) their mistakes, I would highly recommend everyone find another place to take their eye problems to. I've been going to Southwestern Eye Center (Tempe) for the past 4-5 years. It takes a 2-4 weeks for an appointment but it's worth the wait. The staff is professional and helpful. The waiting room was completely full when I arrived but I was called in within 5 mins of my appointment. I had laser surgery on both eyes. The doctor (Funke) was fine. However... I understand that dealing with the pandemic has resulted in significant disruption of normal practices and to some disorganization, but much of my experience has been unreasonable and ridiculous! 1. For my FIRST laser procedure, staff had not forwarded my post surgery prescription to my pharmacy. NONE of the telephone numbers I had been given for post-surgery assistance were answered, including the EMERGENCY number. As a result, I had no pain relief prescription. I reported this on the online patient portal, to the staff, the the post-surgery survey, AND to the doctor at my post surgical visit - All I got was a "oh, that's terrible, someone really screwed up!" - no apology, no follow-up. 2. Since it was urgent, and I was willing to forgive this in the early throes of the pandemic, I had my SECOND laser surgery with Southwestern as well. My paperwork was not accurate, which meant I needed to correct staff multiple times about which eye was receiving the surgery. For the surgery, anaesthetic drops were applied - supposedly JUST before the surgery, but then I had to wait over 30 minutes for the procedure, which meant it was quite painful, as the drops had worn off. And then on post surgery followup visit, staff told me - "no co-pay; this is included with the surgery." And then I receive a bill for the visit, which they hadn't even submitted to my insurance! During a phone call to billing, I was told it was being resolved; then I received ANOTHER bill a month later - still no claim made to my insurance. Communication with the organization remains unanswered. These people are scarily disorganized, and seem only interested in super-rapid turnover of patients for maximum profit. Again, I liked the doctor well enough, but I can only imagine how patients who are NOT as insistent as I am are treated! read more

I had an appointment for today at 740am. Received text confirmation of appointment. Arrived at 730am, usually paperwork needs to be filled out. Door locked, sign on window says open at 8am. Called number in text, explained, put on hold, doesn't have explanation. Lady walks up, keys in hand, explained why I was there, said I have to wait, this is at 733 am. Asked if I could at least come in and sit down. Refused. Said doctor doesn't come in until 8.Then I told her to cancel appointment. I ha d a legitimate appointment, verified by your text. Then received call wanting to reschedule, explained why I was unhappy, no apology for my inconvenience, said I would write review on Yelp. Her response, " do it" click. My appointment time was 2:40 PM and I expected a delay. They called my name at 2:35, took me into a very clean exam room to check for various eye conditions.
