Love flying Southwest with their 2 bags free to check in plus 1 carry on bag as well as one personal bag. Hospitality is a given from the flight staff. Excellent no flight cancellations !!!

This is the gorgeous Lorelle

We boarded the flight back to SJC from Hawaii on Fri 10/24/25. The flight was pleasant with the staff singing a happy birthday song to one of the passengers. However I would particularly like to congratulate Lorelle who checked us in at Hawaii airport. The deserves the highest praise Lorelle was so friendly and helpful making us feel very welcome. Thankyou Lorelle, we love ypu!

Southwest loves Service Animals unlike the other guys....

Flying inter-island with our service animal on Southwest has been hassle free. Their agents and flight crew are always so accommodating and professional. We have had bad experiences in the past with other Hawaii based airlines that were traumatic due to their ill informed employees. Southwest all the way .

Ready for take off

Southwest has recently become our go to airlines when flying since we had our son. Because of where we travel to frequently, southwest is a go to for us because they have direct flights. Not sure how much I'd like it if we didn't have a child, but we currently love it because we get to board after the A group no matter when we check in. Also, seating is good too because there's 3 of us so we take up half of the row. Service has always been good and staff is very friendly.

Wider-than-average seats, clean too

"I'm Looking For a New Love Baby" - Jody Watley. Yes I know my age is showing from the above song quote, but it also goes to show you how long I've been traveling, so that's a good thing. So long Hawaiian, hello Southwest! After being stiffed by Hawaiian for so long, I decided to try Southwest for a staycation between Oahu to the Big Island and back, and let me tell you, I am GLAD Hawaiian Air finally has some serious competition (all the others got squashed, like Aloha Airlines and Mid-Pacific Air to name a few). Read my reviews for Hawaiian, if you don't believe me. I will never fly Hawaiian again unless it was the last thing available. HNL to ITO ($44.00 one way/person): - smooth, flawless and seamless check in, like a boiled egg covered in oil - NO RIDICULOUS LINES like at Hawaiian. People in front of us = 0. - kiosks all worked), fast too! (unlike at Hawaiian - broken for YEARS). Enter your confirmation code and check in at kiosk, on your app, or both, like I did. I'm so old school I like having paper check in stubs instead of scanning my phone with a broken glass face. - super friendly agents! Terminal 2 at HNL was really nice, air conditioned, stores and shops (mostly closed due to our early flight out, but Starbucks was open). Boarding was easy. Flight was empty *we traveled on Friday the 13th* (so we could sit next to each other (me and my son). Coach section had larger-than-average seats, super nice legroom, and SUPER CLEAN. Maybe I was on a newer aircraft, but it was really nice. Comparable cleanliness was Japan Airlines. Filthiest was Delta. I also liked the LED 'mood lighting' - blue and red in the ceilings. No problems picking up luggage. TWO FREE LUGGAGE A PERSON!!! If it were Hawaiian, it's $25.00 inter-island, for one bag, one way. So technically, you can save $200 if there were 2 of you going round-trip to the Big Island and back for a hula halau or Merrie Monarch performance and had to lug equipment and supplies back and forth, or coming to Oahu for a medical procedure....think about it. KOA to HNL ($44.00 one way/person): If you're wondering why I didn't do a round-trip, it was easier to do two 1-way trips between the islands, less complicated and more flight time availability. The Kona to Oahu leg was more of an issue because it was more crowded (to be expected) but the only problem we had was the lack-luster communication on the plane about where to pick up our luggage. The guy (not the awesome, funny pilot) only said it ONCE and didn't repeat instructions, but what he said was wrong anyway, we wasted time waiting at the wrong baggage claim for about an hour. PROS: - super friendly, helpful staff (take note, Hawaiian). Funny as hell in-flight pilot-jokes (sometimes, not always. Southwest is known for their slap-stick comedy...heck, flying is stressful enough) - competitive rates - on time!!! (take note, Hawaiian) - KIOSKS ALL WORK (take note, Hawaiian) - everyone speaks ENGLISH (take note, Hawaiian) - super forgiving cancellation policy (take note, Hawaiian) - future flight credits if you cancel (ahem...take note) - Professional (take note, Hawaiian!) - TWO FREE checked bags, per person...wow, take note Hawaiian!!!! CONS: - you may not be able to sit next to your loved one if the flight is really full. SW has section-based boarding: A, B, and C sections with the numbers. So you may not be able to sit who you want to. We were on a packed flight and had no trouble, however. TIPS: - if you change a flight inter-island, don't bother trying to 'change it' because there are some ridiculous lay-overs, just out-right cancel the flight and start all over, much more flexible that way; Southwest makes it super easy to re-book a new flight vs a changed flight. - use their app to check in, super easy! You can check in 24 hrs ahead of time, which may get you an "A" section boarding vs a B or a C, depending on how full they are. Hawaiian Airlines got too big, too confident, too cocky. If you read the history of Aloha Airlines, the owners of Aloha Airlines created it because they got stiffed by Hawaiian Airlines, and this is in the 1940's!!!! History repeats itself, folks. It never gets better. Southwest you have my business as long as you don't turn into an Hawaiian Airlines! "Never Looking Back" - Fleetwood Mac

This world we live in is so beautiful.

6 AM flight watching the sun come up going to Honolulu. Plane was mostly empty, flight was comfortable and the attendants excellent. Extra bonus, we got there in one piece.

Everyone knows that Hawaiian Airlines is the king of the skies in Hawaii. They have their own terminals at Daniel K. Inouye airport. Here's a comparison flying interisland with Southwest - the "newcomer". First off, Southwest is located in the International terminal - go past the "interisland" terminal which is pretty much all Hawaiian and go to the International terminal #7. Checking in is just like any other plane except they have confusing baggage tag instructions and the terminal defaults are not what you might expect. It asks if you have luggage and then you might miss the checkmark to print your boarding pass. I think it's because they assume you will use your phone for baggage or to check-in. In any case, the baggage tags bring out but on the back there's too much wording. There are places you have to remove but it's confusing. I ended up taking off too much and the small sticker that you are supposed to keep - watch out! I stuck a label to my iPhone case and it took off the coating! Once you get everything sorted out and you have your ticket, you have to go through TSA. Nothing new, except remember you are in the international terminal and the TSA line is for everyone - including international. So the wait is much longer than with Hawaiian. Figure around 20 mins or more depending on the number of people. There IS a line with a "big machine" that allows you to leave your computer in the bag - unfortunately there's only one line with this machine - it's the middle one. Once in the terminal, here's a plus. You can enjoy all the amenities of the international terminal which is a whole lot more than what is in the inter island terminal. Walking to the Southwest gates are farther too. Once at the gate, you have either A or B and a number. They load by letters and A can go from 1 to over 100. But the day I went, A went to 60 and B was right after that starting from 1. Now the plane can handle a lot of people so 60 is nothing.... there are lots of seats, but Southwest has no assigned seating. Once on the plane, you will notice how much more modern the plane looks. The seats are more comfortable and the tray tables are full sized. None of this super small trays like Hawaiian. When the plane takes off the drink service starts. Hawaiian serves complimentary juice and water. I counted 16 items that Southwest serves for free! In addition, there are lots of paid drinks as well. The flight attendants seem happy and relaxed. Their attire seems relaxed as well. It makes you feel relaxed. If you scan a card, you get free WIFI for texting and free TV through the WIFI. This is an awesome addition! The freedom of texting while flying is fun and being able to keep in touch with your family is wonderful! Before you know it, you are landing and both times they were ahead of schedule. These were the two smoothest landings that I remember. So there are plusses and minuses flying on Southwest, but the service, the drinks, the WIFI and the landings are perfect.

Nice !

I finally experienced Southwest Airlines after all these Years they been in Hawaii. My thing is no seat assignments yuck by yourself not a problem while traveling with someone you want to sit together not guaranteed. Southwest Airlines uses Boeing 737 9 Max seating configuration 3x3 it holds approximately 174 passengers with 6 flight attendants no first class. Seating is done by Zone A and Zone B and Zone C from 1-60. I was sitting in Zone B #59. But when I got onboard lots of seats still available I had a whole row to myself and the plane was brand new because I could still smell the leather from the seats . Of course it's only a inter island flight . I wonder if the Las Vegas flight is empty or easier to get good seats . Who knows because the way Hawaiian Airlines been screwing up lately I think I might switch over to Southwest Airlines give them my loyalty business. It's cheap like I said more room plus 2 free bags everytime you don't need to be a premier member like Hawaiian. My flight was delayed on Sunday 1 hr June I was delayed 4 hours and my brother-in-law brother was delayed last night out of Vegas look the New York flight and the online problems . Of course all the seniors will still support them no matter what just like Zippys lol! No matter how the quality and service people still patronize them . Not me LOL .. you need to support businesses that really takes care of you . Thanks for reading my review . Southwest Airlines 1 star of perfect only because of first come first serve seating .

Don't know which boarding group is doing now
Lou C.

This review is based on my experience at gates operated by Southwest Airlines at HNL airport. I rushed to board my flight because I couldn't find charging stations anywhere at the airport. After I saw the line, I turned my head to see several outlets against the wall. I normally see monitors to indicate which boarding group is called. But not at Gate D9. I looked around this area, same. No signs whatsoever. How are people going to know when to line up?

Four stars last year, 5 stars now. How does an airline, other than Japan Airlines or ANA get a…read more5-star (forget Dubai Air, can't afford to fly that in this lifetime)... I didn't like the fact that United changed my flight times 2x, but that's my fault for booking it out several months in advance, but I also was given the option to cancel with a full refund or re-book, which I took full advantage of. I had to pay a little more to land in a smaller airport because the time was more advantageous than landing later in a larger airport, which would have shaved off a significant portion of time on our vacation. THE APP: The best airlines app I've ever used! Smooth, no glitches, flight updates, gate information, baggage claim number, track your bags in real-time, the ability to change your seats in real-time, pay for luggage, find your rideshare map, get your boarding pass, skip the lines, all from the app! THE WEBSITE: I like that you can see your seats on United before you put in all of your payment information, unlike some other airlines (ahem, Hawaiian). COMFORT : We flew one-way from HNL to FLL with a stop in IAH, and on the way home, MCO to HNL with a stop in DEN (80's Cruise - look for the review soon). Both IAH and DEN used Airbus, which is smaller and more "modern" with in-flight touch/entertainment screens; and the older Boeing (to/from HNL), a super-large, older plane with generous leg room (one of the longest we've ever had). I heard a traveler complaining about the older Boeing not having the movie touch-screen, but the older Boeing 777-200's seat configuration allows for a few 2-seaters toward the rear of the aircraft, and I'd rather sit with my husband over sitting with a stranger in a 3-seat config for a touch-screen anyday! This feature alone will make me a loyal United flyer, as long as they keep the 777-200 Boeing! ON TIME: No delays. We almost had one, but the United app kept us updated the entire time, and we were actually early. SERVICE: The flight attendants/pilots were very friendly. The attendants frequently walked up and down the aisles offering refreshments and trash service, unlike some other airlines, where I had to hoard the trash for hours before they came by so I could get up to use the bathroom (ahem, Hawaiian). FOOD: United allows for dietary restrictions and allows for vegan, ovo-lacto, Asian vegetarian, vegetarian, etc. We ordered the Asian Veg on our app ahead of time prior to the flight and we got hot meals before everyone else; it was so delicious that I actually was inspired to create the fresh cucumber salad when we came home! LUGGAGE FEES: $40 for the first check-in, $50 for the second luggage. Option to check in your carryon for free on full flights and in some cases, move up to Boarding Position 2 (out of 6) if you volunteer your carry-on. Flown on United twice recently, and wasn't subject to the WILMA (look it up). OTHER: Blankets in sealed packages and I needed an extra due to the cold cabin; attendant was friendly and gave me another. We had an emergency prior to landing in IAH with a man in an aisle across from us who thought he was having a heart attack and the United staff was professional and level-headed from beginning to the end. The man was alright and was able to walk off with EMT. RETURN FACTOR: I am a fan! As long as they will keep the 777-200 Boeing config and their stellar service/communication, will start becoming a repeat customer not chasing the cheapest flight.

My recent trip from Chicago (ORD) to Kona, HI started off rocky with several cancellations and…read morerebooking issues, but I have to give major credit to the teams who stepped up and turned the situation around. After the initial cancellations, we were rebooked on United for the first leg to LAX -- and that ended up being an excellent flight. The service was smooth, professional, and truly exceeded expectations. The crew was attentive, the aircraft was comfortable, and the overall experience immediately relieved a lot of the stress from the earlier disruptions. From LAX, we switched back to Delta for the next leg to Honolulu. Delta went above and beyond to make the delay easier on us: * Overnight hotel accommodations provided * Food vouchers covered meals * Uber transportation to and from the airport was arranged Those extra steps made a huge difference and showed a real commitment to customer care. By the time we boarded the final leg of our journey, everything felt seamless again. What started as a frustrating travel day truly turned into a reminder of how great airline service can be when teams go the extra mile. Huge thanks to both United and Delta for making sure we were taken care of every step of the way. We finally arrived in Kona with our spirits high and gratitude even higher. Highly recommend -- top-notch service all around.

Continuing on, the transition has not been the easiest I'm sure for the traveler, the airline employees and all others who were involved however slight in this marriage of Pualani and the Eskimo. The backhouse infrastructure is in full force and effect, and very noticeable starting with the reservation and check in processes. The combination of backhouse staffing was in the works over the past few years and has now come full circle. The jury is out still and all we can do is cross our fingers and hope for the best. The front of the house still uses the Pualani logo and designs in the terminal and on the flights (my first review outlines this) Gate and boarding area for interisland and domestic flights remain the same (so far). For the Hawaiian traveler, you will have many more options with Alaska especially on the domestic front. For the Alaska traveler, it's much easier now for you to visit the land of Aloha.! Happy Traveling (ps- 4th star for the unending dedication by the remaining Hawaiian Employee Alumi)

First time trying to use it since the Alaska takeover, and somehow the process became dramatically worse. Apparently Alaska's system cannot handle applying a companion certificate to a booking with more than two passengers. So if you're a family of three, congratulations, you've discovered one of the dumbest booking limitations imaginable. The absurd part is that this is literally just a $100 discount certificate. Any halfway competent booking system could simply apply the credit toward the final total at checkout. Instead, customers are expected to split reservations, risk losing seats together, or completely rebook flights afterward like they have unlimited free time and patience. I spent: - 5 minutes with the Hawaiian Airlines Mastercard rep, who was actually polite and helpful - 25-30 minutes trying to explain the issue to outsourced support - nearly another hour waiting on Alaska support The final "solution"? Cancel and completely rebook the flights. Brilliant. Meanwhile, Alaska now seems determined to nickel-and-dime customers into the ground. We already paid extra for Premium Economy, but apparently sitting together as a family is now considered some kind of luxury add-on. Extra for aisle seats. Extra for window seats. Extra for sitting slightly closer to the front. At this point I'm surprised they haven't introduced a "breathing convenience fee." The old Hawaiian Airlines experience felt warm and practical. The new Alaska version feels like a budget airline wrapped in a cheap touristy Hawaiian shirt bought at an ABC store while aggressively squeezing customers for every possible dollar. Looking forward to the complimentary thimble of mediocre food and the $20 peanuts.

A week later BKK-MNL on 04/20/24 and return flight MNL-HNL on 04/27/23. All my reviews in Thailand are on my Tripadvisor account. Me and my other half's last time flying on PAL was Precovid Feb 2020. Not only they are The Philippines Flagship Carrier, they are the oldest airline in Asia. Although they can get you to major destinations across Asia and all ASEAN countries, they aren't in Alliance with other major airline carriers. Booking online was easy. Upon waking up that morning prior to departure, I noticed the flight was delayed by 1 1/2 hours. Which gave ample time to make our way to the airport to grab a bite and coffee before boarding the plane. Online check-in was successful, with 3 hours check-in time, it was sufficient. Having Global Entry membership allows you to expedite security via TSA Precheck only in Honolulu and other US Airports. I must say, that the ground staff from check-in to boarding were efficient and friendly. One piece of information I failed to pack was my Vaccination card or take a photo of both front and back of the card. My fault, I assumed restrictions were lowered and didn't do my proper research prior to the flight. The customer service agent just checked me in and I had the choice of heading back home to pick up my vax card, or chance myself when entering The Philippines without proof of vaccination. Thailand dropped all restrictions from our previous visit Fall of last year. As a foreign traveler entering The Philippines, you're required to complete your eTravel registration to declare proof of vaccination, similar to when entering Japan when proof of vaccination was required. When complete, the website will issue a QR Code prior to entering the country. Service onboard was excellent. Available onboard entertainment on each seat back screens. Being seated in Economy Class, I noticed both lunch and dinner meals includes silverware. For long-haul flights, I'm content. Between Honolulu and Manila, onboard amenities were a pillow & blanket, toothbrush, earphones, two complimentary meals including a mid flight snack, alcohol including red or white wine, beer and other nonalcoholic beverages. Between Manila and Bangkok, it was almost the same. No amenity's were provided on a A321 and each seat back had no inflight screen monitors. But there was a dinner served on the flight going to BKK. Lunch on the return, and free inflight entertainment on each seatback furnished by an A330-300 aircraft. PAL occupies Terminals 1&2 at Manila International Airport(NAIA). When transferring between terminals, it was a bit of organized chaos. What the customer service agent in Honolulu advised us that our checked luggages would automatically transfer between MNL & BKK. Both us and a Thai passenger didn't have faith that our bags would make it through to our final destination. We all had to double check over and over. There was an airport transfer that would shuttle passengers from T1 to T2 without leaving the airport premises. You're escorted by a ticket agent to bypass immigration and customs, and it's required you pass through another security screening as if you are entering an airport for the first time, very similar to making a transit at Incheon Airport. It's not an huge airport like Haneda Airport, but every single person onboard and in NAIA are English friendly, and the most helpful and friendliest airline personnel I've ever come across! Maybe in the future if booked in Business Class, I'd update my review for later.

But you're not here to linger. I never got to peruse their shops or dine at their eateries as both my arrival and departure times fell out of the scope of normal business hours so no comment on that. Their bathrooms were clean though, although limited. i never realized how much I valued multitude of stalls until I was standing in line after a six-hour flight. We dined in at a nearby restaurant, then walked around seeking Kona coffee. Our suite was ready around 3 PM. The suite was very spacious and I am mostly impressed with the cleanliness. The bathtub did have a ring of discoloration surrounding the drain. I gave my kids showers instead of baths to be on the safer side. I love that there are multiple pools on the resort. Although, I am disappointed that the adult pool closes at 6 PM, which all the other pools close at 9 PM. There is a private beach area, which my kids enjoyed. Beach chairs are $26 each, which are quite expensive. I appreciate the $65 per night dinning credit, which we utilized at the on site market for snacks and water. We enjoyed the brief firework show from our balcony suite. We attended the on site Huli Huli event, which was quite disappointing. I did not enjoy the food and it was pricey. $75 for skewers, corn, and shrimp. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and will contemplate on a return visit in the future.

Enter your floor level and it tells you what elevator to get on - you and the 8 other families with 4+ people trying to get in an elevator at the same time doesn't work. So you're stuck on your floor or the lobby for 10+ minutes waiting. Next - the smell of marijuana and cigarettes coming from nearby balconies. We notified front desk but nothing could be done. And finally? The cockroaches that scurried out from under the ice machine on the floor. The picture obviously isn't inside - but it's a cockroach nonetheless the less.

There is quite a distance from the gates to baggage check. With the storm being fully active when we landed (late due to delay) with part of the airport passage ways being open air, there was flooding in certain areas between the gates and baggage claim. Our baggage came down rather quickly and we were greeted with Leis & a shuttle to our hotel. Though some of the areas were wet and flooded, this airport is really well run. Even upon our return to head back to the mainland, TSA lines were not outrageous and fairly quick to get through security. One thing we did notice when flying out of this airport was that all carry on baggage must go through an additional xray machine right before boarding, this is an agriculture check - which takes boarding the plane take slightly longer than other airports. Even with the added step getting through the airport was a breeze.

Hawaiian Airlines is the worst airline organization I have ever seen in my entire life. I will…read morestand by that statement until the day I die. I have traveled across the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. I have flown to more countries than I can count. I've gone through airports with insecure systems, airports where absolutely zero English was spoken, and somehow still managed to check my bags and get my items where they needed to go. This is not a personal opinion. This is a fact based on experience. Hawaiian Airlines is the most disorganized airline I have ever seen in my life, and honestly, I could see them going out of business. As you can see from the pictures, there is absolutely nobody assisting customers. I don't know if they are short-staffed because they refuse to hire people or refuse to pay decent wages, but nobody is there to help because the employees themselves appear overwhelmed with responsibility. Secondly, you have to wait in a completely separate line just to get your bags tagged. If the system fails and doesn't allow you to check in properly, you have to restart the entire process from the beginning. Then, after finally tagging your bags, there is another completely separate line just to drop the bags off. If something goes wrong again, you are sent all the way back to the beginning. It makes absolutely no sense. You know the system where you get your bag tag and boarding pass, then drop your bags? The system used by 99.9% of airlines? I assume Hawaiian Airlines leadership said, "I have an idea. I'm going to make this whole system complicated and confusing for my customers." There are multiple breakdowns in this entire process. You have five employees running back and forth trying to help move bags, but only one main line that splits into two checkpoints for customers trying to check in. Instead of having workers properly stationed at counters assisting customers with bag weighing and bag drop, they have thousands of kiosks with nobody available to help anyone use them. Customers are left standing around trying to figure out broken computer systems that do not scan properly, do not recognize confirmation codes, and constantly fail during check-in. It is a complete mess. I will say this: the flight attendants were very nice, the plane itself was wonderful, and the staff assisting once I finally made it to the front were helpful. But the entire experience beforehand was unnecessarily complicated for absolutely no reason. There are actual classes and professional systems dedicated to organization and customer flow, and Hawaiian Airlines would greatly benefit from them because they are completely failing in this aspect. Lastly, Hawaiian Airlines needs to get its shit together.
