Southside Hitch saved us from being stranded midway on our trip to pick up our recent graduate in Tampa. We rented--online--a trailer from a well-known rental company. We had the hitch, but not the necessary lighting required for a trailer rental. Although we had an appointment to install the lighting at a Richmond location of the trailer rental company--at considerable cost-- while stopping to visit friends, we were told the kit was not available and could not be located at any other store along the 95 corridor at this venue, but we would most likely get lucky if we made various stops at their locations along the way. We called Southside Hitch the next morning, hoping that they would be able to help, but figured we would pay for our lack of planning. We were told to come on out, they were sure they could accommodate us! And they did! Within 30 minutes, we had a lighting kit installed at a fraction of the cost of the quote from the trailer rental company. I just had Southside Hitch install a hitch on my 2018 VW Tiguan. It was a quick process and cost $95 (no electrical work). BTW, they also do hitch electrical work, have a HUGE selection of accessories, in the event you need something extra for your hitch system. As always these guys are reliable and helpful. I took my travel trailer in for state inspection during peak season so I expected a wait. They told me it would be at least a week, but they got it ready for me in 4 days. They also probably saved me a big repair bill (or worse) by doing a bearing service. Apparently the travel trailer manufacturers only use a tiny amount of grease on the hubs. They will be my go to place for any trailer related services. read more

I brought my 96 Brenderup Baron TC to get inspected, and to also get the 27 year old , almost worthless jack stand replaced on it. That old stand was almost impossible to use anymore. They were able to inspect my trailer, fix the few little things that they found, and replaced that jack with a new one that is far superior, both in quality and ability to use. Just awesome. Unfortunately, there were intermittent problems with the lights, so I had to bring it back. They traced the problem to a bad controller, so they replaced that part and it works well now. I called Southside Hitch on a Friday at 315pm to see if they could install a trailer hitch on my pick-up truck. ( They close at 5pm) They told me to be there at 4pm and I was out of there at 445pm. I had trouble with my by brake lights on my trailer but I was pretty sure the problem was with my truck. They tested the trailer and assured me that my trailer was fine. They couldn't figure out what the problem was with my truck and were in the process of explaining everything to me when one of the older technicians walked by and overheard the conversation. He interrupted and said let me check one thing. Told the younger technician to get in the truck and push the brakes while making slight movements with my turn signal. When the turn signal was in a certain place the brake lights would come on. The 2000 Chevrolet 2500 Silverado had a bad turn signal and the wiring for the trailer beak lights go through the turn signal. Although they told me they couldn't work on my turn signal they at least showed me where the problem was. read more

Was looking to have a baseplate and towbar installed on my Jeep Wrangler. After calling around to several places for quotes, Southside definitely had the better price. They were able to get the parts in quickly and do the install in a matter of days from my initial phone call. They were always courteous, and very knowledgeable about Blue Ox products. Had the brake box and wires and electrical plugs installed for new horse trailer. They forgot to re-seal the firewall from the engine compartment so it sounded like there was a hole in the floorboard. OK they fixed that, no issue. Then I go to pull the trailer hitch out to change it and they installed the plug right next to where I pull the pin out of the hitch... So I have to un-install their work so I can pull the pin, switch the hitch, put the pin back in from the other direction, (like THEY should have) and re-install their plug. Oh, don't expect much courtesy from the front desk guy either. Would NOT use again. read more
