Another automotive facility stated I needed to have a part replaced due to wear for over $1400. I called around and DeVoss gave me a priceof under $1000. After brining the car in to have it fixed, DeVoss inspected the part and let me know it didn't need to be replaced and only charged me for 30 minutes of labor. My family and I were traveling from Washington, DC to a family wedding in Columbia, SC. Day one of our journey ended in Richmond, VA where I discovered my brakes decided to start grinding. I looked for a local mechanic near my hotel and found DeVoss Auto Repair. They opened at 8, but the sign was on and the door open when I pulled up at 7:45. I explained my circumstances and Jerry said he could take care of it despite closing early for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. I took my daughters car to Jerry and Nick to check a noose in the front end. They quickly diagnosed the issue and found parts and set up the repair so she would be able to get back to college. They also did inspection and oil change and checked timers and fluids to ensure the car was safe for travel. Prices were very reasonable and fair. Having recently brought my car from California to Richmond, I was not aware of the car inspection that needed to be done. Just kept seeing the stickers on everyone's cars and didn't think anything of it but finally decided that I needed to get it done before I got in trouble! Googled for places to take my car too and chose these guys based on the great reviews they received. I called a week before to set up an appointment and was able to get a time that worked perfectly for me. The day of my appointment, I accidentally drove past the entrance as the front is very small. It's right between Buzz and Ned's and a car tinting spot. I had to make a circle to get back to it. The lady at the front was very kind and got me situated right away. The husband came and got my keys within minutes and took my car to the back to get the inspection started. The whole process took maybe 15-20 minutes. Was able to make the time pass by talking to the lady in the front about school and Richmond and such. When it came tile to pay for the service, she included a student discount which I was not aware of. It was 10% off which I thought was very nice of them. Will definitely be back if my car ever needs work done. Lucky to have these guys so close to where I live. So far, I have been there for routine things (thankfully, for now), but I like going to them because they are a ma/pa place, quick, and honest. After a completed oil change Jerry did make a recommendation for the next visit and I appreciated that because I could plan for it (car was driving funky and it made sense). Also, had an inspection in Jan 2018. Had a broken taillight, he helped me find a new one for as cheap as you can get it ( a friend looked up a used one and it wasn't that much cheaper). At the end of the inspection, he told me that my front breaks were looking worn and that I need new breaks by June if I did city driving (a tad bit longer if not). I don't mess around with breaks and I do a lot of city driving, so looks like June for new breaks. Again, can't stress how nice it is to find a honest mechanic who looks out for you for stuff you may need but won't up sell on stuff you don't need or pretend to fix stuff. Prices are fair and I would def. recommend. Have been lived in Richmond less then 2yrs and it has been nice finding reliable mechanic between work and home to service my car. Hey, I don't know much (anything) about cars, but I do know a bit about people. These were some of the kindest folks at mechanics I've ever met, and the environment was really nice too. They're an appointment-only kind of spot, which I love, so I was in and out for a state inspection in 20 minutes. Now of course, I'm sure if something was wrong I'd have been there longer, but it means a lot that I was helped immediately. And if I'm honest, I was late and I booked a same week appointment, and they were still so kind!!! I don't imagine myself going anywhere else for general service. My only note is that they probably don't have a public bathroom, which you might want to know if like me, you were late and holding it :) read more

I walked in on a Tuesday to get an estimate for a broken sideview mirror. Man (Husband) looked at my mirror, talked to me about after-market v. new mirror prices, etc. I gave my registration to Woman (Wife); so, she could get VIN # to check on part. As Husband was handing me back my registration, Wife says to him, "I didn't get her name." I'm standing right there! I say, "I can give you my name." The whole time, I felt as if I wasn't welcome there. 1 week passes. I'm driving by Lotsey & Hardy where I regularly take my car for service. Within minutes, I have a quote on the mirror and a date to come back to install it. So, I call back DeVoss. "Oh, there are no after-market mirrors available." Really? Ok. Why didn't you call me with that information? Why did I have to call you back after hearing nothing from you for a week? Why could Lotsey & Hardy check on same part instantaneously?
