Alisa was a great waitress I was unsure of the potato salads because I'm not a big fan of pickles in my potato salad so I had passed on the Irish channel and ordered other items. She brought me out a sample of the potato salad which I enjoyed so I ordered the Irish channel also. The Irish channel has potato salad in the middle with chicken and sausage gumbo on one side and shrimp and okra on the other. The were both great we'll seasoned and full flavored. The calamari was great crispy and well seasoned with a tangy cocktail sauce My Gf loved her patty melt The buffalo shrimp were good but not my favorite the crust became soggy I know better I usually get sauce on the side because I like my shrimp crunchy. The paaned tuna remoulade was delicious the tuna perfectly cooked but crispy not a common thing you say about tuna because it is rarely served fried. But the real star is the sauce tangy creamy and delicious. Just awesome read more

Great food. One star short due to COVID precautions. The place was super busy but that's no reason to let down your standards when it comes to cleanliness. There were six of us and no one had a bad meal. read more

I love this place. They've never let me down. And the dipping sauce for onion rings, Shazam!!!!

Food is great. A little bit of everything. We get the veal and muffuletta they are excellent. Service is always good. Usually busy but worth it. Try the Southside lemonade one of my favorites. read more

Went for lunch on a Thursday and the place was hopping. Very popular. Wife and I both had the gumbo and it was more on the bland side which I'm sure caters to the largest cross section of patrons. Crab balls with remoulade sauce were very good. Waitress was all business and not overly friendly....which is the perfect waitress as far as I'm concerned. read more

You can find All the dishes from the old NOLA restaurants before it became the tourist trap that it is today ! I can get anything NOLA at Southside cafe and it always awesome. Roast beef, shrimp , oyster, poboys are all fantastic. The muffuletta is awesome traditional or seafood. The onion soup is the best I have ever had and that's going against Gordon Ramsey onion soup which was probably the worst I have ever tried. If it wouldn't be for southside cafe I would probably have to open my own restaurant to get what I want out of local NOLA food! DONT CHANGE ANYTHING ITS PERFECTION! read more

Checking in online was phenomenal. The app let us know where we were in line then we received a text when our table was ready. Our server came by twice to apologize for taking so long to get to us. About 15 minutes and she took our drink order and food order. Taylor was slow. We watched two other tables get sat after ordering our drinks. They received their drinks prior to us. She kept saying the bar didn't have our beer, but no other tables were experiencing the slow service. We got some gumbo. It was a depth of flavor expected from a dark roux. The buffalo shrimp were more Chipotle bbq, but they were tasty. I ordered the ribeye pork chop. The char on the outside was a touch too smoky. But the chop was moist and not over cooked. My husband had the soft shell crab. They didn't season the batter, but he said they were good. I have to wonder if we'd had a different server if our experience wouldn't have been better and I could have given more stars. read more

Southside Cafe - Sauce - American Near Me - Slidell, Louisiana

We were really excited to try this place after seeing such raving reviews. The outdoor seating waiting area is very comfortable. Since we were met with a wait of almost 45 minutes to be seated, we expected the food to be outstanding. The onion rings were good, but the sauce was not. We enjoyed the cheese fries with debris. The meat was delicious. The chicken and sausage gumbo had a tomato in it... enough said there. The catfish and tartar sauce were good, but the cocktail sauce was very heavy on the horseradish. We ordered a burger, medium. It was prepared well done, but the bacon on it was awesome. The mac and cheese was served hot, but didn't taste fresh. The coleslaw was alright, nothing special. Finally, they advertised on their instagram story that they'd have the Pelicans vs. Heat game on, but we were unable to get it on the tvs. Overall, it was an average experience. Our server was very nice, though. read more

Always good! Never disappoints. Sports bar Atmosphere but great place to take family and friends. Food is always fresh and yummy. I wouldn't recommend getting certain dishes for takeout. For instance the poboys are not as good when taken to go. They are much better when you dine in. Service is always great. This is always our go to spot since they have a wide variety on their menu. read more

We were on the hunt for a good lunch after a long day of travel. Yelp led us to Southside cafe. Little did we know this would be the last sit down restaurant meal we would have for a long while. The menu is huge, everything looked great based on the menu and the pictures we saw on Yelp. I was craving veal, a specialty of Southern Louisiana. They had options for a meal plate or a sandwich either parmesan or plain breaded. I opted for the breaded parm. veal sandwich, the pricing, and portions were more in line with what I was seeking at the time. I might have chosen poorly. My sandwich looked really tasty but was not as good as I hoped. The breading was sliding off the meat probably due to the sauce softening the crust. The sauce was lackluster, the meat was a bit chewy and not very flavorful. The service was good, our waitress was very prompt, almost too much so considering the size of the menu, we felt a bit rushed. Pricing was on the high side and based on the food I received the price was definitely too much for what I got. read more

Ouch! I need a salve for my rear as a large chunk was just bitten out by Southside Cafe! I fully understand that inflation is rampant and that everything costs more. I'm not complaining about the food cost vs. portion size at all. The food itself was good and the portions reasonable. What I'm complaining about though is an unforeseen 4% (approx) charge for using a credit card and a coercive tip system. I saw no prior disclosure as to the credit card use fee, but maybe it's hidden somewhere on the menu in 3-point type, but even if this is disclosed somewhere, this is just annoying and picayune as who pays in cash for dinner anymore. This is just something that is aggravating and leaves the impression of acute cheapskatery. The next source of pain is the table side checkout that has a default 22% tip. The server then will linger and to select anything less is both complex and awkward. This arrangement is actually worse than the "mandatory" 18% tip that some restaurants impose. The service was fine, but I don't like being defaulted into anything. Ultimately, the tip and credit card fee combination takes away from anything positive. If Southside gets rid of these two annoying aspects, I'll consider going back, because I'm certainly not going to go find an ATM to get around these ridiculous obstacles. The juice just isn't worth the squeeze. read more

We came here because the place we wanted was closed. Top reviews! Well earned! There's something to see everywhere here a lot of eye candy!! It's clean, crowded and boisterous!! A big bar full of folks, music and laughter, it was fun!! They have a big menu and daily specials. Big portions and our server was working hard. I had a big burger and Julie had a oyster po boy, we got a small order of onion rings that was enough for both of us. All that was fantastic! I, personally, didn't like their French fries they are those kinda battered kind and I just can't warm up to those. We had a good time and we will come back!! read more

There are a couple of reasons why I was disappointed in Southside Cafe. First, I've been driving all day and I was tired and hungry. Second, with an overnight stop in LA, I was really looking forward to the food. The menu looked good, it had 4 stars with 200+ reviews....seemed like a great place to eat. Before I get into it, let me just say it's possible the food just doesn't travel well (although my car ride back to the hotel was literally 6 minutes; not very long). I love spinach and artichoke dip. This is not spinach and artichoke dip. It's actually not too bad (it had a bit of a bite), but it has no flavor of spinach or artichoke or parmesan--the flavors that make me love this dip so much-- despite being creamy and clearly quite cheesy (it was topped with a huge amount of mozzarella). It's a little odd, actually; it looked good. I could clearly see the ingredients in there, but the flavor just doesn't match what I know spinach and artichoke dip should taste like. If it were called something else, I may have liked it better. But no. It comes with what looks like homemade chips, but my chips were soft and rubbery. They may have been homemade, but they definitely weren't fresh. HUGE bummer. The fries weren't bad. They were hot, though not very salted or cooked as long as I prefer my fries. They got limp really quickly, almost like they were microwaved instead of fried fresh. The biggest disappointment was the po boy. I've had po boys in LA before that were amazing. The filling was fine, but the bread was horribly rubbery. I couldn't even bite into it. I looked like a ravenous wolf trying to tear into raw deer meat. I shouldn't have to shake my head back and forth that hard (or at all!) to bite a po boy. I was so hungry, though, I really tried to have a go at it, but I just couldn't. I wound up just eating the filling and leaving the bread behind. Major disappointment. I'd be more upset if I'd paid more money for it all. The 3 items I ordered came up to about $18 with the help of a 15% off Yelp coupon. Not bad if the food is good, but too much when I can't even eat half of it. read more

We stop in Slidell often on our way home and generally slip into a chain and get back on the road. We have been missing out. It was busy for lunch on the day after Thanksgiving, but we were seated immediately. We ordered the tuna steak sandwich, sirloin burger with cheese, and a small order of onion rings and straws. The tuna sandwich was great. We were surprised that it was not a whole tuna steak but sliced; still the flavor wasn't affected at all. My burger was perfectly cooked and juices ran the whole time I ate it. A generous portion of cheddar cheese was melted on the burger along with a crispy slice on the side... yum! The onion rings with homemade remoulade sauce was perfection. The sauce had a welcome bite to it. We are ready for our next stop through to further explore the menu! read more
