My friends and I spent the day on the lake and were looking for spots to hang out after. I've had this place on my radar for awhile as I am a huge fan of visiting breweries everywhere I go. Come to find out days before our trip that Southern Star has decided to shut down at the end of June. Sad to see one of Texas' oldest breweries closing down. I had to get here before they did because their beers are great. It's right off 45 and easy to find tucked away off a side road. The grounds are beautiful as well as the building itself. The inside taproom isn't large but the building itself is so I'm wondering they have more hangout spaces. They also have a nice deck where a lot of people were hanging out. Customer service was great. Most everyone in our crew got a flight so we could try a few things. Prices here are excellent and won't break the bank. That's what I love most about breweries. I went with the Strawberry Blonde, Southern Brunch (citrus shandy), Texas Lager, and Pit Stop (cherry cider). I really enjoyed them all especially the Southern Brunch. My friends ordered some apps for the table such as fried pickles, fried mushrooms and waffle fries. They came out piping hot and were all tasty. I saw some pizzas leaving the kitchen and they looked excellent. They also had deals on whole cases of beer for 20 bucks. Killer deal that my friend took advantage of. Sad to see this place is closing. Great breweries are a dying breed from what I have read. If these places weren't so far I would support them more. I wish everyone in the company well and hopefully see them come back in the future. read more

Brewery #386 This was my 5th and final brewery of the day (no worries, I spaced them out, so my senses were still intact.....I think). Southern Space was down a tree lined road kind of in the woods in a very nice space. I didn't get to see what the outside area was like (If there was one) but I did see they had a large front porch to hang out at. We got here around 8 or 9 pm and I ordered my usual flight. The place was happening; country music was playing which is not to my taste but at least it wasn't quiet. My flight consisted of a Bombshell Blonde, a Bombshell Hefeweizen, Bombshell Smash IPA, and a Valkyrie (DIPA). Why isn't this place just called Bombshell brewing? Anyway. The beers were all decent but nothing that wow'd me. If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably have been the Hefe. They had a kitchen onsite serving up burgers, pizzas and all the fried apps that places usually do. Unfortunately, we had already eaten so I can't really report on that. read more

Stopped into Southern Star shortly after we moved her to check them out. Not a bad little brewery. We were really impressed by the Bombshell Blond Ale and the Buried Hatchet Stout. These were two really good beers. After that, the other options were not as appealing or tasty. Little disappointed that they only had a limited amount of beer on tap but really enjoyed the upstairs section of the brewery. Nice views outside. The beer tenders were not the friendliest of people and really expected more out of them for a weekday afternoon. I visited Southern Star Brewery for the first time this past weekend for a friend's event and I was so impressed! While there, I tried a bunch of the beers (definitely check out their Stout), did a brewery tour and enjoyed meeting new people! The brewery itself is very clean, well laid out and great for big groups (we were in their upstairs event space). As for the staff... you won't find a friendlier group of people. The owners and bartenders were all there to chat, answer questions and share their knowledge about their beers. This was such a fun place to visit for a Saturday afternoon and I can't wait to visit again! read more

Smash burger and fries are fantastic! They let you sample the beer. Owner was awesome (and handsome) and passionate about his craft. Lots of seating indoor and outdoor seating. Bathrooms are clean and tidy. SSB is less of a brewery, and more of a voyage into the vast sea fermented hops and succulent meats. read more

Burger was absolutely epic. I got mine with extra grilled onions and the practically melted into the meat sauce was perfectly proportioned. All the flavors and textures meshed together perfectly nothing overpowered any other part. Battered waffles fries perfect side super crispy yet soft inside. Nice brewery, with a large seating area inside. Plenty of kinds to choose from, and well priced. Beer flights are a great way to try a few before committing. Well, google will bring you to the middle of the road. Keep driving and there is a small sign that says Southern Star and will lead you down a long paved pathway. The tap room is upstairs, so a/c and indoors is a plus. Buy tickets first at the merchandise area and then head to the bar for the beer. Very cool spot to go visit if you love beer... now this is an interesting spot because I don't drink beer and not a big fan of beer. However, I found out there's an amazing beer here that I loved! This place is clean, spacious and has lots of space for parking! There's a beer for you here.. and even me! I spoke to the employee who I told I really don't like beer or drink. He suggested the blood orange beer and I tried it! It was really good! I even had a second one since the taste was clean, fresh and not so "beerish" We got a beer tour as a group and it was pretty cool to hear the story behind the beer! You also have the option of getting a beer pint glass with your purchase beer tasting! Genius! I also want to point out they support our troops 100% and donate to a great cause!
