We were in the area and my wife did some searching to find a place for breakfast or lunch. She remembered Southern Spice had great reviews and since we had not been in before, we thought we would check it out. She noticed the lunch menu starts at 11am so, we decided to target our arrival to get lunch. The restaurant is located at the end of a small strip mall just off I-40. The parking lot is large with adequate space. We arrived shortly after 11am. Inside they have a combination of booths and tables. We were greeted and promptly seated at a table with menus and told our server would be with us shortly. Our server arrived and took our drink orders. We also told her it was our first time in and asked her for recommendations and the most popular items. My wife decided to order the Bacon Mushroom Swiss burger (8oz patty with bacon, mushroom & Swiss cheese) without the bun and onion rings. She also added a small side salad with no cheese and ranch dressing. She was given the choice of iceberg or mixed greens which made her happy since she is not a fan of iceberg. I chose the Cowboy burger (8oz patty with bacon, American cheese, onion rings, lettuce, tomato & BBQ sauce) without the tomato and tater tots. The salad arrrived first and we felt it was a nice side salad for the price. Our meals arrived in a timely fashion and looked delicious. My burger did have the tomato on it, which I removed and didn't mention to our server. After our meals were served no one came by to check in on us for quite some time. We needed more napkins and water refills. My wife had finished her water and ended up drinking most of mine before we were able to get her attention and ask for more. We really enjoyed our food and commented several times on how affordable the prices were. However, the service was not attentive, friendly but not attentive. Also, the men's and women's restrooms need attention and do not match the interior dining area which appeared clean and comfortable. In addition, neither of the automatic paper towel dispensers worked and there were no other paper towels which is partially why we asked for more napkins. Based on our experience, this would likely be a future takeout stop for us. We prefer other neighborhood eateries for table service. Overall, the food was a four, however, the lack of service and the cleanliness of the restrooms have us questioning the cleanliness of the kitchen resulting in an overall 3 star rating.

Open faced turkey sandwich

The was good. Our small flounder/shrimp platter was a bit disappointing. The flounder filet was so thin the coating was thicker than the filet. However, the shrimp though small was tender and delicious. The slaw and mac and cheese were pretty good. The open faced turkey was delicious even though it was turkey roll the flavor of the gravy and fries was wonderful. The service however was GREAT. Hostess and servers were very kind, attentive. They were well staves and ran a tight ship. Even the cashier was supper nice. The restaurant was very clean and with plenty of seating.

3 egg sampler

Met a friend here at the crack of dawn at 7am when this place opened for breakfast. The place was clean and warm (heat was on this chilly morning) We sat ourselves since we were the first ones there and there was only one server so early. Our server was friendly and welcoming. I ordered the three egg special sampler over-medium, with two slices of bacon, link sausage and ham. Got the biscuit and gravy too. The food was quickly prepared to order. Eggs were glorious and soft. Bacon crispy, sausage and hand nicely browned. Biscuit was golden brown on the outside and fluffy and soft inside. Sausage gravy was creamy and delicious. I also got a cup of coffee which they kept full the entire time. And price? Not bad. Two full breakfasts and a coffee for $17. This is a great little place to eat. They drop in and say hello.

Breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, home fries. Hamburger with fries.

I was very hungry and just needed some quiet time to relax. This place gave me everything I needed. It's huge, clean, well lit, and comfy. The ladies up front were sweet and my waitress was a doll. There when I needed, but not hovering. Even the bathrooms were spotless. It's definitely a breakfast restaurant, although they do have burgers and other sandwiches on the menu. But when it comes to breakfast, they had everything you could possibly think of on the menu. I ended up choosing Big K's Combo and for the price of $11.99 I thought it would be a normal size meal. I was so surprised when an incredible amount of food for the money came out. Everything was delicious. Ordering grits is a bit of a gamble lately but these were the best grits I've had from a restaurant in years. The scrambled eggs were moist and tender, the bacon was crisp, hashbrowns very tasty, and the pancakes were perfect, with those special crispy edges that I just love. This is a fantastic place to go and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants an excellent breakfast.

I've now been there three times in less than a month (twice in one week) and look forward to it every time I'm on i-40 going toward Winston-Salem. This time I had the special which was turkey breast with dressing, cornbread and macaroni and cheese. The macaroni and cheese side was referred to as a casserole but I thought it was pretty runny and a bit bland, but certainly not bad. I also got a side salad which was fresh and tasty. I would have preferred it was served in a larger bowl so it didn't fall out when I mixed the dressing in it. The turkey and dressing was excellent! One person in my party had the Dirty Bird chicken sandwich, the exact same meal he had 4 days prior when we were there! He loved it that much. The third person in our party had a vegetarian place of green beans and a couple of other things but I did not take photos of that meal. It looked fine but not remarkable to me.

The staff are nice and the manager is great. On this visit, I had the Cuban breakfast biscuit combo. ( fried pork chop with fried country ham on top, cheese, pickle, mustard on biscuit) the wife had a spicy chicken and honey biscuit with butter grits and loved it. The food is always good and fresh and was no change this time either. The best part about coming here is while waiting in line to order you can watch the biscuits being made fresh by hand at this location and every location for that matter. Come early as seating is limited and fills up quick and the drive-through is around the building, but well worth the wait.

Before that the biscuits were sold in the morning hours in Pizzaville locations, primarily in the Triad area - the first two had opened in Burlington in 1966. By 1978 all Pizzaville location had been converted to Biscuitvilles! The biscuits are made fresh daily, with batches processed every 15 minutes in an open kitchen area. The biscuits are made from locally sourced flour, buttermilk, and shortening. They also locally source their bacon, sausage, eggs, and much else, including Cheerwine from Salisbury, and Cackalacky dipping sauce from Pittsboro. These are very good biscuits, among the very best available locally, better than any national fast food chain with the possible exception of BoJangles. I'm not a big fan of their breakfast platters, but the biscuits rock. My favorites are Sausage & Egg, Bacon, Egg & Cheese, and Country Ham & Egg, and the Fried Chicken biscuits.
