This us a great place!!! Wife and I discovered that the Ithaca area is home to a whole lot of cideries. We just never knew. South Hill popped up in our search so we went in for a tasting. And it was only a 10 mi Ute drive from central Ithaca. At 11 am on a Monday, at opening, we were the only people there. We sat at our table and for the next hour had the opportunity to taste five different ciders, made from various types of apples and using different processes for each. It was fascinating. They gave us nuts, cheese, and olives for our between-cider tastings. We had planned to get lunch but the ciders and snacks were enough for us. This is a really nice, quaint cidery that is easy to find. It's quiet. It's roomy. It was just a really nice experience. We bought a few bottles on our way out for family and friends. They grow apples on 10 acres of the property, and gather "feral" wild apples and apples from abandoned orchards. They have a cidery that brews cider varieties from dry to semi-sweet. They have a tasting room, with ciders on tap, flights, and several craft too beers. They also serve sandwiches and charcuterie boards. There's a terrific view to the west, with some outdoor seating. So we stopped by, chose some delicious ciders, and set up to watch the sunset. We liked the semi-sweet ciders. We also liked the interesting overtones of the ones that included "wild"-sourced apples, some interesting notes i would say were bitter but not overwhelimng. Cute spot for cider tasting and sandwiches! Would highly recommend coming when it's warm outside- lots of patio seating and the flowers/greenery are very nice to look at. Tried the cider flight and the hot pastrami sandwich- sandwich was good- not really sure what's going on with the side of boiled potatoes though... I am not a cider-connoisseur, but I thought these ciders were all good. Such a fun activity to do in Ithaca. Got some much needed frolicking time in! Definitely recommend South Hill! read more

The space is modern, airy, and perfect for a calm afternoon but the cider sadly didn't live up to the setting. We tried a few options (Baldwin, Prelude, and Bluegrass Russet) and honestly... none really stood out. For their flight being priced between $16-$30, we were expecting more complexity or at least a standout pour, but everything felt a bit underwhelming. If you're into very dry ciders, this might still be your vibe. But for us, it just didn't click and the price point made it feel like a bit of a miss. read more

My wife and I were taken to South Hill Cider just outside of Ithaca, NY by my stepdaughter and her husband. It is a cidery, orchard, and venue which also has a small food menu as well. We came to taste and buy ciders. Ciders like other beverages have those who like them and those who don't. This is why flights (tasting of several) can be helpful. The 4 of us shared 3 flights. I like that each flight comes with a slip of paper which identifies and describes each cider in the flight. You pay a premium for this experience. Each flight of 4 samples costs as much as a full bottle of the most expensive cider in the flight. The total volume of a flight is about as much as if you ordered one glass of cider. The 3 flights available are the "House Flight", "Premium Flight", and "Dessert Flight", progressively more expensive. From the "House Flight" we preferred the two semi-dry ciders "Old Time" and "Rośe". "Prelude" and "Baldwin" didn't resonate with us. My bias is dry ciders have become a cliché much as IPA to beers. I can enjoy one from time to time, but there are many more flavor characteristics which I think are too frequently lost in them. Clearly, my tastes differ from much of the market both sell to. From the "Premium Flight" which are the only ones with a specific year notation, "Chisel Keeved 2023" was the only one we really liked. Unfortunately, it is a bit of a tease putting it on the flight because it's not for sale by the bottle at this time. It will be available to their premium club members in about 60 days, and the general public some time after that. We are here now having traveled by car about 2,000 miles to get here and it does not sit well with to pay for a sample of something I can't purchase now. The least they could do is make an advisement of that on the menu board and on the slip of paper which accompanies the flight. Our son in law lived the "Goldwin 2023". "Golden Hour 2021" and "Perry 2022" didn't do it for us. The latter was particularly disappointing as it had no pear flavor in it at all. From the "Dessert Flight" we enjoyed "Ice Cider" and "Classic Pommeau". We did not care for the "Royal Ice Cider" or "Chisel Jersey Pommeau". The latter, I describe as "too medicinal". I am not a brandy aficionado, so don't let my reaction deter you from trying them if you like brandies. We purchase bottles of all of the ones we liked othe than the one they won't sell later in the year. We will enjoy them after we return home. I recommend trying this place out and seeing what you like. Enjoy. read more

This place is adorable and very pet friendly!!! The indoor space is so clean and beautiful and there are plenty of spaces outside. Fire pits and multiple seating options and even blankets. This Sunday afternoon was not too busy. We were greeted warmly and offered suggestions. My friend and I each ordered a flight and a panini. We were given a buzzer to signal us when our food was to be picked up. It was delicious. I enjoyed my flight. I ended up buying a bottle of the 1st one I tasted. I liked the scenery and the view. We will come back again with others to enjoy some evening events and hopefully live music. I had very lovely staff serve me today. There is lots of parking. The washrooms are clean. Even if cider is not your thing this place has an amazing atmosphere and good lite meal food options. Plus the cider is good, personally not a cider lover but I always found one I like. They are constantly changing the premium flight list so when it doubt get one. The amount of outdoor space is amazing for kids to run around and play while you social with friends. They even has a toy box by the bathroom and a decent kids menu (grilled cheese or a hot dog) but my kids love the charcuterie board. If only the box is available that's great too. An extensive live music schedule some are mandatory cover some tip based, check website I think it indicates that so are thrown off when you get there. read more

Overpriced cover charges for their bands. Decided to bite the bullet because we wanted to see Donna this past Friday. It lined up as we had to be somewhere else at nine. Too bad the show started at 45 minutes late and we saw maybe an hour and a half of music for $30. Oh and almost nine dollars for a 12 ounce beer? No thank you. What idiots price drinks so you have to get coins back when you're buying at an outside tent at a venue? Oh the people that want to make sure you just give them the remainder so they get over tipped. The cider drinks were great and the food adequate but when I returned a bottle that had been repurposed (for requested tap water) and had a VERY MOLDY cork, the staff tossed the cork in the garbage and turned away without a word. Then I was charged a gratuity for a "large group" when the four adults and child had three sandwiches, one hot dog, and five drinks (root beer for the child, popcorn and one order of nuts for the group). They also have nice flower patch where you can pick bunches for $10. The cider list is pretty short but it covers a decent variety so most can find something they like. One negative was the descriptions were a little vague so talk to the staff they'll give a better picture of the flavors than the boards. The view, food and drinks were good. However, we could not believe how expensive everything was and we left still feeling very hungry and eating elsewhere. It cost $19 for a cheese board which only provided 4 small pieces of cheese and the $16 pulled pork sandwiches were so small with a very small portion of meat that it was more like a single slider, as opposed to an actual sandwich. There was a sharp piece of plastic in my pulled pork that I bit into and thankfully did not swallow. The $9.50 Balwin cider was great and that's the only high priced item I could make sense of. read more

South Hill Cider is a beautiful place to hang out, with some of the best live local music you'll find in Ithaca. Unfortunately, it's very expensive. $30 cheese and meat platter that's not that big or special. $10 6-oz pours of cider. And frustratingly, they will NOT let you buy a bottle of THEIR cider and enjoy it with a group of friends on their property. The individual fire pits are nice so you can enjoy a bonfire with your friends. I just wish they would experiment with higher volume / more affordible prices rather than this exclusive and elitist experience that they seem to be going for. I know that when i wanted to buy a bottle to share with my group of 8, it would have been finished in ten minutes and someone else would have jumped up to buy the next bottle. By the end of the night we would be having a super fun time with a pile of empty bottles around our bonfire. Instead, we each had a drink or two. Someone splurged on a charcuterie board that we all complained about, we heard some nice music and saw a beautiful sunset, and then went home after a mellow evening. Meh. read more

First visit, I shared their classic flight and premium flight and had a cider royale cocktail. Their flights are overpriced. I enjoyed the rose and Keeved cider; two out of eight. I enjoyed the cocktail. Sat for about 25 minutes after ordering food before inquiring about it only to find out they had lost our food ticket. After reminding them of the order, they brought out some of their tasty mixed maple nuts which were herbaceous, sweet and savory, while we waited. Shared their cider cheese which was delicious. Had a couscous bowl which was just ok. There are a lot of flavors from the different elements and they don't really blend together. The tahini (which I think is homemade) was a extremely bitter and not reminiscent of tahini. Second visit, I tried their pommeau flight and didn't enjoy any of them. The classic was bearable, the second and third tasted too similar, and the last was too sweet and had almost a cleaning solution taste. I was in town with my fiancé and we stopped here after a long hike at a park nearby on a Saturday afternoon. Being from NJ, I'm not accustomed to visiting cideries. Nice space, drinks, and music. Definitely a stop if you are in the area. Went there on a Thursday with some friends. The land surrounding the building is beautiful. Very spacious to hang out socially distancing from other groups. We tried their cider, which comes by the glass, on a flight, or bottle (to go). All different styles were very tasty. There's firewood pizza, but I think this is only on certain days of the week. They are pricey for their size but with no other alternatives (+ the inviting scent) you'll also get one. Be prepared they only do vemmo and cash. Rated 4 stars bc it started raining and there were not a lot of options to cover up and the bites offered by south hill (not the pizza place) are terribly small - we weren't too pleased with the hand sized cheese curds. read more

When asked to explain the very high end ciders our server pulled faces at us, refused to do so, gave blank pointless comments that didn't address our questions (eg Apple origin & provenance) and was rude when we asked further. We went to South Hill Cider for a tasting and lunch. I really wanted to like this place; the cider, the food, and the setting are all great. The customer service, however, needs work. Their menu has several sandwiches on it that contain bread and melted cheese, but also meat. Because my husband is a vegetarian and happened to be craving grilled cheese, I asked if they could make one. They said yes and rang me up with no issues. It was on the small side, and he was still hungry after, so I went back up to order a second one. I was then lectured about ordering for an adult from the kids' menu by both employees. 1. I never ordered from your kids' menu; I simply asked if you could make a grilled cheese sandwich based on looking at other menu items that you offered. 2. Why gatekeep food based on age? We're paying customers; does it really matter what mouth consumes the food? 3. I've worked in food service (and at a winery where we regularly serve "kids'" items to anyone who pays for them). You stand to gain nothing but a lost sale and a bad reputation by lecturing your customers. They said, "We'll go ahead and make a second one for you this time since you already got one, but just know for future reference that only kids can have kids' menu items." As if there will BE a "future reference"...don't worry; we won't be back. There are plenty of places in Ithaca that aren't so pretentious. Do better. I used to love this place when it first opened but now I honestly don't think I will go back. I've watched the you pick flowers go from $5 a bunch to $12 in the span of two years. Cider glasses shrink to the size of large shot glasses for $8. The last time I went at 4pm for one cider and I was told with a rude attitude that if I was staying until 5:30 I would have to pay a cover for the band. I was buying drinks at the time and It was 4 mind you? Did she think I came at 4 to sit for an hour and half to avoid the cover charge of $10? Loved this brewery taproom! I had a flight of ciders--all of them were great and unique in their own ways, and I'm not even generally a big fan of cider. I also had a sausage plate to accompany my drinks and they were good (if overpriced). The most fun came from the unexpected concert we were treated to! When I went there was a little bluegrass ensemble playing a bunch of cool folk tunes filling up the intimate little taproom. The music was excellent and set a fun vibe, with people getting up to dance or just silently giving along. My visit here was possibly THE highlight of my trip to Ithaca! read more

Have been wanting to try this place for a while and was finally able to go after a hike at buttermilk falls. This place is located on a large farm. There is a barn with a little store to buy the cider and there is an outdoor bar where you can get cider, flights and a few snacks. There is Plenty of outdoor seating and you can even buy firewood for nine dollars to use it several of the fire pits outside. While we were there there was live music and wood fired pizza stand. You can also pay to go cut flowers in the field. As for the cider it was ok. I got the flight, and it included large pours, so you got your money's worth. The regular glass of cider is $7, I felt this was a little expensive for what it was; I would advise doing the flight. Nice place to relax and try cider. read more

They even had a wood fire pizza tent up and a live country folk band playing they were great! You can even pick your own flowers! Nice views!! Its a great spot on a nice day to hang out and relax. However, I didn't really find a cider that I liked. Staff were ok. Some reviews have said the staff were rude and there was bad customer service. I didn't experience this but I will say the staff didn't seem like they were committed to providing a good experience. For example, didn't really seem interested in telling us about the ciders or recommending anything. It was more just "look at the menu and tell me what you want." I went here early in the pandemic (June/July 2020) so I didn't really hold it against them as they may have been hesitant to even be working.
