    Dessert Flight
    J B.

My wife and I were taken to South Hill Cider just outside of Ithaca, NY by my stepdaughter and her husband. It is a cidery, orchard, and venue which also has a small food menu as well. We came to taste and buy ciders. Ciders like other beverages have those who like them and those who don't. This is why flights (tasting of several) can be helpful. The 4 of us shared 3 flights. I like that each flight comes with a slip of paper which identifies and describes each cider in the flight. You pay a premium for this experience. Each flight of 4 samples costs as much as a full bottle of the most expensive cider in the flight. The total volume of a flight is about as much as if you ordered one glass of cider. The 3 flights available are the "House Flight", "Premium Flight", and "Dessert Flight", progressively more expensive. From the "House Flight" we preferred the two semi-dry ciders "Old Time" and "Rośe". "Prelude" and "Baldwin" didn't resonate with us. My bias is dry ciders have become a cliché much as IPA to beers. I can enjoy one from time to time, but there are many more flavor characteristics which I think are too frequently lost in them. Clearly, my tastes differ from much of the market both sell to. From the "Premium Flight" which are the only ones with a specific year notation, "Chisel Keeved 2023" was the only one we really liked. Unfortunately, it is a bit of a tease putting it on the flight because it's not for sale by the bottle at this time. It will be available to their premium club members in about 60 days, and the general public some time after that. We are here now having traveled by car about 2,000 miles to get here and it does not sit well with to pay for a sample of something I can't purchase now. The least they could do is make an advisement of that on the menu board and on the slip of paper which accompanies the flight. Our son in law lived the "Goldwin 2023". "Golden Hour 2021" and "Perry 2022" didn't do it for us. The latter was particularly disappointing as it had no pear flavor in it at all. From the "Dessert Flight" we enjoyed "Ice Cider" and "Classic Pommeau". We did not care for the "Royal Ice Cider" or "Chisel Jersey Pommeau". The latter, I describe as "too medicinal". I am not a brandy aficionado, so don't let my reaction deter you from trying them if you like brandies. We purchase bottles of all of the ones we liked othe than the one they won't sell later in the year. We will enjoy them after we return home. I recommend trying this place out and seeing what you like. Enjoy.

This place is adorable and very pet friendly!!! The indoor space is so clean and beautiful and there are plenty of spaces outside. Fire pits and multiple seating options and even blankets. If you get chilly!! There are multiple flight options and so many snacks to choose from. The rosemary cheese curds were the perfect bite and the popcorn was absolutely delicious! I even bought a bag to go! All of the wines were tastey and matched the cider fashion! Such a great place with the most friendly staff!

This Sunday afternoon was not too busy. We were greeted warmly and offered suggestions. My friend and I each ordered a flight and a panini. We were given a buzzer to signal us when our food was to be picked up. It was delicious. I enjoyed my flight. I ended up buying a bottle of the 1st one I tasted. I liked the scenery and the view. We will come back again with others to enjoy some evening events and hopefully live music. I had very lovely staff serve me today. There is lots of parking. The washrooms are clean. I bought a bottle of South Hill cider from the Cellar D'or in downtown Ithaca. They highly recommend this cider house.

Nostalgia. Here for the beer as a queer!

Get the cheese curd! I implore you! It was so good. The pastrami sandwich was mid and doesn't hold a candle against Katz pastrami! The Apple Ciders were okay, but I recommend Finger Lakes Cider House more! The people were very nice though! They also have cornhole for games and live music!

I was so happy to find this gem (thanks to Yelp!) when I was in the area. Really a unique experience, ambiance, and menu to choose from. The rolling hillside, seen from the flower garden and beer garden with hanging lights, was absolutely an incredible sight! The variety of options on the health-conscious menus (food and drink) will leave your tastebuds thrilled and your belly satisfied. If you're in the area -- this is a must-stop!

Super cute location with plenty of seating. Even though there were a lot of people when we went it didn't feel too crowded or busy. They have a nice overlook where you can see the nearby hills. They also have nice flower patch where you can pick bunches for $10. The cider list is pretty short but it covers a decent variety so most can find something they like. One negative was the descriptions were a little vague so talk to the staff they'll give a better picture of the flavors than the boards. The food options were so so, I saw the cheese boards and they were a decent sample but not what I would have pictured. So this location isn't really a good stop in my opinion.

Would give them a 3.5 if I could. Some decent ciders and cocktails. Most of their ciders are on the dry side but they have several pommeaus and with their cocktails, there is something for everyone. First visit, I shared their classic flight and premium flight and had a cider royale cocktail. Their flights are overpriced. I enjoyed the rose and Keeved cider; two out of eight. I enjoyed the cocktail. Sat for about 25 minutes after ordering food before inquiring about it only to find out they had lost our food ticket. After reminding them of the order, they brought out some of their tasty mixed maple nuts which were herbaceous, sweet and savory, while we waited. Shared their cider cheese which was delicious. Had a couscous bowl which was just ok. There are a lot of flavors from the different elements and they don't really blend together. The tahini (which I think is homemade) was a extremely bitter and not reminiscent of tahini. Second visit, I tried their pommeau flight and didn't enjoy any of them. The classic was bearable, the second and third tasted too similar, and the last was too sweet and had almost a cleaning solution taste. Stick with the cocktails and enjoy the serene landscape.

I was in town with my fiancé and we stopped here after a long hike at a park nearby on a Saturday afternoon. Being from NJ, I'm not accustomed to visiting cideries. South Hill Cider was a pleasant surprise and I would highly recommend it to everyone! We both got a cider flight, which was at a reasonable price. The views of the mountainside and the whole atmosphere was really awesome and different. Definitely would come here again when I'm in the area!

Cider was just so bad, it tasted rotten. We did two tasting flights of cider and didn't really like any of them.

Super cute spot with lots of unique cider options and great cornbread/desserts!…read more We tried the Funkhouse, Sparkling Cab Franc, Fruit of the Bloom, and Persici (in order from dry to sweet). My favorites were the Fruit of the Bloom which is infused with ginger as well as the Funkhouse. I liked how crisp the funkhouse was and I loved the ginger note in fruit of the bloom. The others were okyay too, persici was very sweet but paired nicely with the ginger hazelnut baklava which was incredible! I am allergic to pistachios, so I loved that I could eat their baklava! We also tried the cornbread with strawberry and jalapeno butter- absolutely incredible. I am from the south and have had a lot of cornbread but this truly stands out. It came out warm with a slight crunch from the crust while maintaining the perfect crumb inside. Just crumbly enough and not too try! I also really enjoyed the jalapeno and strawberry butters- you can tell they use high quality butter, they almost reminded me of goat cheese. I preferred the jalapeno butter a tad more but both were great! The exterior is beautiful- the views are very nice. I would highly recommend coming on a warm day and sitting outside. We initially sat on the balcony but moved due to the bees. The tables underneath the white tent were shaded and bee-free. Service was pretty quick- our ciders came out almost immediately. We had to wait ~10-15 minutes for the cornbread though, but I didn't mind especially given it was warm! Overall, I would highly recommend!

For the cider flight, Funkhouse and Lake Hause Rosé are excellent plant-based picks, though vegans should note the Honeoye blend is made with honey. The staff is friendly and efficient, promptly managing the busy first-come, first-served crowd. Indoors, the space is cozy but tight, making it tough for large groups on rainy days. However, the sprawling outdoor seating (May-October) is fantastic, spacious, and fully wheelchair friendly. With its casual vibe and moderate price point, it's a stellar spot for a relaxed day date or a scenic group outing. Just roll up early since they don't take reservations!

Hollenbeck's is my go to for cider and donuts in the fall…read more The line is almost always out the door in the fall so be prepared to wait. While you wait you can select a peck or bushel of apples, or maybe send a scout out to the baked goods and fudges, or watch the old cider press in action. When you reach the donuts you can pick from powered sugar, cinnamon powdered sugar, or plain. Personally I think plain is the best because they are hot, crispy, pillowy delights. There is a limit in that you can only buy 4 dozen donuts per person. The cider itself fresh pressed right before your eyes. Two people work together to layer the mash and wood pallets on a very old and incredible press. The cider is well filter and not as sweet as other ciders but very good! One note: you cannot buy cups of the cider- you have to buy a half gallon or gallon and then open it outside. On the pie side you can actively see and smell the pies being made. If you would like a pie for a special occasion you might want to call ahead to reserve one as they sell FAST. In the cold cases on the pie side is also where the cheese curds, summer sausage, and some meets such as elk and lamb are available. The great thing is the baked goods are available all year, so Hollenbeck's is a great stop even in the spring and summer. Also of note it smells like pressed apples ALL YEAR! Parking- one entrance, one exit. There is parking in the front and back, and some street parking as well.

I liked the raspberry blend but blueberry was my favorite. The very clear taste of the fruit was beautiful with the honey notes and you knew it wasn't just a juice drink..the alcohol was there as well. The ciders were a nice surprise taste wise. I'm not a big cider fan, but when I tasted the gold medal winning Strawberry and crisp apple cider it was a win for me. The single fruit choices of all these were selections were wonderful.... sometimes the blending of different fruits leaves to confused tastes for me.
