I went in this weekend for a much needed check-up. This place had been recommended to me by a lot of friends & if did not disappoint. Destiny at the front desk was super attentive & welcoming, explaining the process and answering any questions I had. Dr. Chen was a pleasure as well. She was really informative from explaining what each test was for, to also explaining the results, etc. I was comfortable the whole time and was really impressed with the care that i received. When choosing my frames (for the first time), Gabby was especially helpful. She was patient & assisted in choosing the frames that were suited for my face. For years I'd been going to a previous optometrist where the service was horrible and the wait even worse. When I turned 20 and my mom made me schedule my own appointments I decided to look for a place where I would feel welcome. Luckily I came across South Gate Optometry. The staff was very welcoming and answered any question I had. The place itself is clean and if you have an appointment, they respect it and within minutes you're face to face with the doctor. My wife and son went for eye appointments over two weeks ago and the appointment was a positive experience BUT they still haven't received their glasses, they've been telling me for the past couple of days that they were supposed to come in Friday the 15th then I was told they were supposed to come in yesterday the 18th, I called today, the 19th and they STILL aren't here! Not only that! But nobody has called me with any communication, I've had to call them repeatedly. We have NEVER waited this long for glasses at any other place...this is truly ridiculous, especially when people need they're glasses to SEE!! Won't be coming back to this place for they're eye check ups next year. I'll find another place with a reasonable turn around time for glasses. read more

Because I have very high astigmatism, it's always been very difficult for me to find comfort in glasses and contacts. I finally decided to make a change of optometrists and came across South Gate Optometry. They really understood my needs and concerns. As usual, I had my annual eye exam, which was very thorough and complete. The doctor was very pleasant and answered all my questions regarding the use of my contacts and took the time to listen to what I would want. I ordered new contacts and glasses with no issues at all. It was recommended I use different type of contacts and also new thin lenses for light-weight glasses. I have never been more pleased to find comfort with these new recommendations. The staff was very friendly and patient with me as I tried on as many pairs of frames over and over again. I never felt pressured to "buy up" to more expensive frames or to get add ons (ie: anti-reflective, transition, etc.). I felt they were very honest in what looked good on me and what did not. They have a great frame selection with a wide array to choose from. Lots of hip styles, name brands, designer, all shapes/colors - you name it. They can even order ones for you even if they don't have a display pair. As I used my insurance, I can't objectively comment on pricing as everyone has different coverage and it will surely vary person to person. Although I will say what I spent seemed very reasonable for getting designer frames and contact lenses. I highly recommend South Gate Optometry to friends and family. read more

Checked out this place because I was referred by my doctor who unfortunately closed down her office and the first time I called to make an appointment the receptionist was rude and kept cutting me off leaving me unable to ask any questions.. I thought maybe she's having a bad day, let me go ahead in person to make an appointment.. Went in person and made an appointment for two and made sure we were eligible for everything by the time we went.. Very unprofessional, the lady at the front desk is completely rude. Wasn't able to confer with the insurance company about an approval of an appointment she had two weeks before to be able to call and confirm. When she called me up in the middle of a question, she turned around without saying pardon me, and answered the phone. Though it was about the extremely late confirmation, she's did not provide a proper customer service that is expected in any medical office. Prior to that she asks everyone if they are sure the appointment was that day making people seem as if they are incompetent to learn the date of their appointment. Look for their name first before making any accusations. One wouldn't wake up at 8am to drive to an ophthalmologist for fun. Whilst in the patients room after waiting an hour and twenty minutes to see the doctor he examines one and then the other and receives a phone call. Honestly, what kind of professionals are these Who would pick a call and go to another room without saying a word I'm appalled at this service I can't believe such an institution exists with such horrific standards of handling patients. My eye clinic unexpectedly closed down and was looking for a new Optometry and so I called here. The associate over the phone was so friendly and was able to give me an appointment a few days later. The staff here are awesome. I suffer from severe anxiety so the exams leading to the main vision exam usually take many attempts, but the young woman (I can't remember her name, so sorry!) helping me out that day was patient and very reassuring. Dr. Corona himself was friendly, very helpful, and extremely informative on the health, condition, and recommended care of my eyes. I've never had an optometrist fully explain the condition of my eyes before! I was a new patient (came in on an early Monday afternoon) so I expected to take roughly two hours before they had my paperwork situated and actually got to me to the doctor, but I was in and out of the building in less than an hour. Came in as an emergency since my glasses broke. All the staff here was really nice and patient with me. I was having a hard time picking out frames but they barred with me and allowed me to try on almost every single frame and so I found a perfect match. They also had a great deals and my glasses came in sooner than expected. There was a mixup with the frames in the lab and they called me right away to let me know. I came to this place due to yelp reviews. I called on a Thursday and went for my exam appointment on a Saturday morning, three weeks later. They were very accomodating and Dr. Corona was great. About a week and a half later I was notified that my glasses were ready for pick up. According to their online info, on Tuesdays they close at 7pm. So I left work around 4:30pm arriving with two minutes to spare for 6pm, but the door was already closed. Aside from the confusion of hours I experienced, this personnel is very warm and professional. I did in fact go back for an appointment I had set up for my daughter, and it was then that I learned that they actually do read the patrons' feedback. Dr. Corona saw us the second time and personally apologized for previous inconveniences. We got to speak, and apparently they didn't even know the hours needed update, so glad to know that I brought it to their attention. Regardless, I assured we'd be coming here for our family's need. If you want a friendly and professional experience, and your voice heard, this is the safe and adequate place to visit. read more

I've gone to South Gate Optometry for years and Dr. Corona is amazing! He is very knowledgeable, informative and practical. He is always teaching me something new about my eyeballs and well that helps since I rely very much on my eyes for work. Some eye ware may be pricey or parking can be hard at times but that DOES NOT reflect the quality service I receive from Dr. Corona and South Gate Optometry. My appointments usually last an average of 45 min and 60 min which is pretty good (I work in a medical office so this is pretty ideal for a health care organization). I also bring my daughter here and would definitely recommend others. read more

My favorite place to visit for my eye exams! I recently went in for an annual check-up to transition to daily contacts, I was on monthly lenses before. Dr. Corona was incredibly helpful and answered all of my questions regarding the switch. He gave me 3 different brands to try to ensure that the contact lenses I purchased were the best fit for me. As usual, everyone in the office was very nice and friendly during my visit, especially Delia and Maria. Even though I was 20 minutes late to my last two appointments, I was still well accommodated into their busy schedule. For the past 3-4 years I had been struggling with getting my prescription and glasses right. I made an appointment with Dr. Baxter and the moment I walked in their office, I was greeted with an extremely kind, friendly professional staff. Dr. Baxter is amazing. She took her time and explained to me what exactly I needed to correct my vision. Right after that, I dealt with Alex a licensed Optician, and he immediately understood what style I was going for. He is patient, professional and extremely knowledgeable. About a week and a half later I went to pick up my glasses and finally for once I not only was happy with my frame selection thanks to Alex, but I was also able to see. I really don't like this place. The receptionist is rude and they don't have walk-ins availability. The waiting area is small. Is difficult to make an appointment. I have been here a couple of times in the past, and I wasn't sure. My kids needed an eye exam and I happen to have my day off, the receptionist immediately said they didn't have any availability or they were not taking walk-ins.
