Food is decent with the potential to be alot better if fresher ingredients are used. Pizza crust is good. Reason for rating is for smug,bad customer service by the Manager. I ordered a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich with onions only. I omitted the peppers and mushrooms and asked for extra onions. When my bill came,I was charged for the extra onions. I asked why,when I didn't have muchrooms and peppers put on the sandwich and was told"no substitutions." I then replied that they had no problem deleting ingredients but added a little extra of an ingredient that was already going on the sandwich was a problem? Again,server said"no substitutions." Paid,left a 25% tip,and I then called the Manager when I got home. To be very clear, This is not about the .75 cents extra charge,it is about the principle. I respectfully,calmly explained my situation and explained that as a Mom and decades long grocery shopper,that peppers and mushrooms are more expensive than extra onions(and that I didn't get those on my pizza,thus SAVING them money) the Manager's reply was"that he doesn't have 20 minutes to sit down and figure out what costs more for every substitution(which this was not) He was rude and snarky. I told him that I have supported this business for a long time and asked if it was really necessary to upcharge a repeat customer,especially during Covid when businesses are trying to stay open and his reply was "we have been open the whole time." Ummmm, What??? I then politely said that I could see what his stance was and that if he wants to lose a customer over .75 cents than he has just lost one. His reply was a sarcatic "okay." Moral of story... Okay food,bad management. Sarcastic and ungrateful. He never learned that this is NOT the way to remain open and successful. Good luck with that. read more

I've had Sourdough Pizza Restaurant on my radar for some time. The concept of sourdough pizza crust intrigued me. If you know something about sourdough it is not made like other dough. It takes a lot of time and care to have the sourdough turn out right. This restaurant gets it right. The crust was perfect. Clearly this hand crafted pizza was not thrown together carelessly. The toppings were fresh and evenly distributed. Not too much sauce, but just enough to compliment the cheese and toppings. I had to choose between hand tossed or thin crust. I chose thin, which is my usual preference. The crust was crispy without being crumbly. It was a perfect golden brown. I enjoyed this pizza as well as the atmosphere. I am looking forward to experiencing more items on their menu. I would give this place a 5 star, but they do not substitute toppings on their signature pizzas. They remove the one you don't want and charge for the additional one you do want. read more

Came here today as my husband was craving pizza. I am a sourdough lover so I was very excited to try this place out. Located in a scary abandoned mall we had no trouble finding parking. The place was dark and not too welcoming but the smell was inviting so we thought we'd go ahead and give it a try. Wanted to order the garlic bread was disappointed to find it was made with French bread not sourdough ordered a mini pizza it was good but nothing I have to come back for. My husband ordered the 3 mini sourdough he enjoyed them but we both agreed no need to come back here. Especially when Oregano's and Sauce have amazing pizzas and are closer to us. If you could give this place negative stars, I would. What a nightmare. We had a large group and called ahead and they said they'd be ready for us. Listen to your instincts when you pull up and see the place. Got there and waited and hour and 40 mins still with no food. I ordered three meatballs. We were at a point where we had to leave. A person at our table asked for an update and the waitress proceeded to all out scream at him. It was bananas. Ate here again last Friday with my mother after a concert next door at the Dutton Theater and the pizza and pasta were great. Love their buttered garlic toast too. We ordered an XL pizza (1/2 pepperoni & sausage and 1/2 grilled chicken). Everything was excellent and the leftovers were quickly devoured once I arrived home. We love this restaurant. It's my husband's go-to pizza place. The pizzas taste really really good. They have a variety of crusts, including gluten free if you need it. The last time we went I ordered the mozzarella baked on the ravioli plate. I think the pasta part of the ravioli was a little over cooked, probably due to the baking, but it was absolutely delicious, as was the garlic bread. I did order the tiramisu this time. I think it was frozen. The waitress did admit she microwaved it and was afraid of over defrosting it. It tastes good, though the top layer was still frozen. But it did not have that dried out frozen texture that I hate. We have had both Stacy and Vicki for our servers and they are outstanding. They take the time to talk to you and Toni understand what you want, make suggestions, and remember you. I love going to a restaurant and feeling like I'm special and they are glad to see me!! This place has been an East Mesa staple for years. Everyone that lives here knows how good this place is. The sauce and the crust are perfectly paired. Much better than your average pizza place! The topping choices are great! I love getting a sausage and jalapeno. They use real jalapeno (not the pickled ones) and they chop them up so you get a nice spicy flavor in every bite. They also have a great Hamburger pizza! I was told to add ketchup and mustard, and was suprised that it actually paired nicely. They also have all your traditional pizza favorites. When we called to report it they would only credit us a 20% discount "next time" we came in or drive back and get a new pizza. Well we already lost our appetite!!! Used to be a good little restaurant but it has been ruined by greed and nasty manager/owner. Toppings are almost too small to be seen. The crust is great but hardly any sauce, cheese or toppings. When I commented that the toppings were extremely light, I was treated very rudely. Our server was horrible as well so we chose to leave a 10% tip instead of our usual 20%. We were chased after by the manager demanding that we leave a better tip. Never went back and badmouth this place to anyone that will listen. read more

Worst experience ever! The owner (younger girl) was extremely rude to my family and I from the very beginning of service. The Food that was ordered was so hard no one could bite into it. We sent the item back and the waiter said he would take it off the bill. We paid for the other items and left the restaurant only to be followed out by the owner who was running after us. She began screaming at us (keep in mind my young kids ages 5, 8, and 11 witnessed this and were very upset) and threatened to call the police on us! The item TAKEN OFF THE BILL was $5! I told her to go ahead and call the police if she felt it necessary. She continued to scream nasty things at us so I had my kids get in the car and we left because they were scared. Yay for Sourdough! This is East Mesa folks, not exactly a culinary destination. But this is good pizza! It's local and been around forever, so it's not exactly trendy. Please don't take your first date here unless you are an octogenarian on a day pass from the assisted living facility. No thin crust to be found on this menu. But pile whatever toppings you can fit on the pizza and enjoy a hearty slice. They have a decent drink selection, and lots of other italian items on the menu that I've never tried because the pizza is so good. It's a popular destination for the winter snowbirds, if you go a little later in the evenings, you can avoid the rush. But three generations of my family have loved this place and the next time you are crusin' Apache Junction, you should check it out! read more

It is in an odd area, but "back in the day" it was next to an AMC Theater, so perfect for dinner and a movie. They still seem to be going strong though. They have many pizzas to choose from. We lived in Chandler and don't remember how we heard about this place but boy am I glad we did. It is as far out in Mesa as you can get I am pretty sure. Once my folks were visiting and we were taking them there for some yummy za. My dad asked if we were going to Utah for pizza? FAR! We ordered the Fireman's pizza. Pepperoni with Jalapenos.
