I also fell in love with Chicago Deep dish and indulged every visit. I recently discovered a review of Detroit style Pizza I didn't know was a thing. The Pie. The Pizza Shack slice house thin crust are NY style pies. Beautifully cooked crust with a little browning on the edges, ingredients of your choosing with a perfect blend of cheese which was deliciously seasoned. It isn't a NY style pie unless your slice leaves an olive oil foot print in the box. I've added Pizza Shack Slice House on my list to visit in-house. This place is amazing. The food, service is spot on. Lots to choose from on the menu. We had a couple slices which are nice and big. Also had some fried zucchini and mozzarella sticks. I tried the buffalo chicken sandwich and it was perfect and big. What I also loved was the fries. Smaller cut and so crispy. Inside you will find the red and white checkered tablecloths just like the old days. Just the perfect and extremely affordable place for a wonderful meal. I am telling everyone about this place. Absolutely excellent pizza in a hidden hole in the wall spot! The grandmas pie and their margherita pizzas were outstanding. Truly a gem and they really know what they're doing. Quaint little restaurant with red and white checked tablecloths and the most accommodating waitress ever! The hand tossed pizza was amazing and the side salad was enough to share with loads of black olives cherry tomatoes and wonderful fresh grated Italian cheese. The service was great. People who work here are really nice and helpful. Waited maybe 3 minutes before we had drinks and 5 minutes later already had our mozzarella sticks, which were so gooey and good with the whole cheese pull going on. Since it was our first time here we also got a pepperoni strombolli and a BBQ chicken pizza. Everything was amazing. The time we had here wasn't too conventional towards a customer service. Jimmy apparently one of the owners was rude and seemed irritated to our arrival we came an hour before close I see the potential issue but none the less , we sit and order to be greeted with dirty plates , happily to give me new ones we decided to stay and eat , we had fries, onion rings, fried bread , and 2 pizzas ( pepperoni and chicken jalepenio . The pizza crust and bread was superb by far my favorite part of our experience the sauce was lacking to my opinion needed a little more the cheese melted to perfection . The pizza itself delighted the experience . The finger foods were minimally cooked which once again I should have had them crispier. Stopped in on a Sunday for the first time to try the pizza. Ordered up a very tasty pepperoni and mushroom 14" pizza and watched some football. The thin crust was perfect and the sauce, cheese and toppings were soo good I ate way more than planned. Instead of taking half pie home, only had 2 slices to take with me. I've been hearing about Pizza Roma Italian Cafe for ages and finally decided to drop in for a visit. What a cool little out of the way place! When we got there, there wasn't anyone else around. As the evening went on, it slowly filled up and by the time we left, it was crowded! I love it when these local shops get great business. Since it was my first time here, I decided to go with the appetizer sampler with wings (HOT), mozza sticks and zucchini sticks with sides of ranch and marinara. Everything hit the spot especially chasing it down with a cold one! Soon I had my pies on order. A 14" meat lovers and a 14' Hawaiian. After a short wait, our food was brought to the table. Okay, these pies were GREAT! Golden brown crust, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside. Just the way I love it. Toppings were cooked through and cheese to toppings ratio was on point. Perfect cheese pulls! These were well made pizzas! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the service was GREAT! Our server kept our glasses full and kept checking on us. He later mentioned that he was working by himself that evening. I have say, you wouldn't know it! He had the front of the house moving! Excellent job! Wonderful pizza! This is the second time we have ordered takeout and delivery, and everything was great. The salad too, no iceberg here, nice fresh Romaine lettuce black olives and cheese. (We asked for no tomates). Great selection of toppings and the prices are fair. YUM!! read more

Had a chance to eat at Pizza Shack Slice House a few days ago. Wasn't in the mood for pizza, so we had the Friday & Saturday Rib Special. My wife and I split a full rack. Even split in half, each of us had lots to eat. The meat was soft and very tasty. It comes with a side of french fries and cole slaw. The ambience was also very nice. Reminded me of Buca del Beppo. Ahhh - my lunch special was a 10" personal pizza and salad with a drink. Any toppings!!! I chose a margarita pizza with some pepperoni. Perfection. Thin crust was amazing, little crispy with that nice mouth texture, not too doughy, not too much. Didn't hide BUT made the light & delicate tomato sauce really SHINE. Tomato is the key word - as in homemade tomato sauce that began in your own garden, enriched soil and some sunshine flavor. The mozzarella was really fresh. Basil added heaven to it. Little tiny sweet tomatoes halved, just almost exploded from the warm oven...but not quite. Think FRESH on a homemade crust. I also ordered the lasagna pizza for my husband, and I took a big bite of it and it was lovely, I hope he enjoys it tonight. A decent amount of garlic and a richer sauce surrounding that meatball n sausage should make him smile. Just don't be swayed by the bigger restaurant on the north side of Main with a similar name on a big sign - this little cafe is in the Southside of Main in the strip mall. read more

Absolutely delicious!!!! We also had wings and pizza but didn't stop to take a picture, it was too yummy! Unfortunately our visit didn't go as planned, it was too busy for one cook to handle - lotssss of Togo orders and restaurant filled with people. We'd love to go again, but don't want to run into the same issue of waiting an hour for our food. EAT HERE!!! Every time I've come here, the food is amazing. Everything on the menu is delicious and authentic. I love to get their Bianco pizza- great prices, wonderful mom and pop Italian restaurant. They also have Cannolis, calzones, and pastas on their menu. Location from the outside is a bit unassuming, but don't be deterred! Super nice and clean on the inside, and the owner is very nice. (This place has gone through some ownership changes recently, and in the last few months it's gotten better so don't read too much into some of the older reviews.) While we were a little apprehensive as there was a "be right back!" Sign on the door, this place was amazing. Calm and friendly, with gorgeous art on the wall, this delivered the family vibe I look for in my Italian restaurant a. The pizza crust was hand tossed and nicely balanced between crispy and soft. The side salad was generous and the Caesar delicious. The spaghetti was a hit with our kids and the spaghetti loving adult. The owner was out when we came and the back of house had to fill in. Can't even be mad, he was doing his best in a role he didn't do. When the owner got back, she jumped right in and there was no issue with our service. We dined at around 3 pm on a Tuesday and the restaurant was understandably quiet. Our food arrived quite quickly and hot. I ordered the calzone and my wife enjoyed part of a 12" pizza. First, let me say that I am happy that I read some of the other reviews, most of which are very positive. I think I am a good review writer, and I like to write positive reviews whenever my experience warrants it. This is one customer's opinion based on one particular visit, so you may take it for what it is worth. We have a number of pizza establishments relatively close to our home, and we enjoy trying different ones, comparing them, and choosing our favorites. We have known of Pizza Roma for quite some time and finally decided to try it. I ordered by phone and asked for a large pepperoni pizza, with extra pepperoni, for my wife and myself, and that was all. I thought it was a little pricey, but it was OK. We timed our arrival just right and were soon on our way home. When we opened the box, we were very surprised at what we saw. So to be fair, I looked up "New York Style" pizza online and found that our pizza generally fit the description. It had not been cut very well so I used our own pizza cutter to separate the pieces. Even as thin as it was, it took several strong cuts to get through. As the definition said, it was thin and the pieces were large. But we had to use forks and kitchen knives to cut individual pieces to eat. I couldn't find anything that resembled tomato sauce, and there was a thin layer of cheese and an adequate, but not full, layer of small pepperoni slices. I ate 1 1/2 slices, and my wife managed to eat one slice before she gave up. I almost threw the rest out, but I put it in the refrigerator, and I will try to make something of it today for lunch. Let me repeat, this is just one person's opinion. But if you are trying this place for the first time, just be aware of what you are getting. I apologize to the owners and employees. Well.. my dear YELPies! It's a Friday Night and it's a YANKEES baseball night.. so of course we had to get a PIE and a Sampler Platter on the side. My wife is from QUEENS and we have been looking for that NY taste. There were definitely hints but, it wasn't a home run! We ordered the NY Supreme pizza and the flavor was good but the crust was too hard. The Sample platter hit a punt however the chicken wings (all flats) were fried too hard which made them dry. What I can say is the service was GREAT! CJ and the cook were soo nice and made sure we had everything for the take out order.You know I'm a sucker for good customer service and for THAT, it was a three base hit!!! This little spot is in a side strip mall and the inside is so cute and ample room for eating in and small dinner parties, it's cute and what you would expect for a pie place in NYC (5 Burrows) We decided we are going to try this little spot again and eat in their dining area.. we always have to go more than once because you know.. Got the Italian combo to go for pickup. Got there 15 mins later and they didn't have my ticket, so had to wait for them to start over, so waited 15 more mins. They were about to bring to my table where i was waiting, but had to remind them it was to go. Pizza was "ok", but not enough to go back based on this experience. Best way to describe the pizza is just "boring" or average. Sauce is too sweet and not that tomato flavor you crave, and with a combo: everything just tasted the same. No great sausage or pepperoni that stood out to say "wow" or good crunch of the onions and peppers. Just a very average, limpy, soggy pizza with zero "personality". If you've had a really good or great pizza, you know what I mean. Comforting in a meatloaf-kinda way and I wouldn't say "bad", just boring. However, I have to remember that the price was half of what we normally get, so there's that I guess. Certainly better than *most* of the chains, but not enough to go back. Didn't even get an apology, although they said "thanks for your patience" when I finally got the box, so I guess that's something. Overall disappointing, but i imagine it's pretty good if you haven't been downtown Mesa, Grimaldi's, Vito's, or many other NY style or other family-owned joints very close to the same area. Not even close. I would have given the food a 3 if it weren't for the service issues. So not the down-the-street, neighborhood place I was hoping to frequent and tell friends about. If you've only had Dominos or Papa Johns and go eat there, you may love it and would explain the 4's and 5's. Others joints very close by are better. If I were to make a suggestion: maybe offer me some tea or an apology since I had to wait for you, hell even some water would have been a nice gesture and a good human thing to do. That would have said something. Instead, it just gave me the feeling of "not again" and perhaps this happens all the time. Just unorganized and a horrible first impression on a new customer and got the feeling they didn't really care about me. Went there & it seemed they couldn't find the order. Maybe they forgot? Idk. I went in at 5 after 5pm. Awaited till about 5:30pm ..Pizza was late. I just feel we should've been compensated for cannolis(?) ornsome type of dessert for pizza pick up, being late. Plus when I brought it home, bottom was burnt... It's still edible. I don't recall their tagline but it's TRUE. Something about one bite and we gotchya. Their crust is amazing, great ingredients but it's just the whole package. A friend recommended their mozzo sticks and pizza. Both were spot on and I looked like a hero for taking my family there UPDATE: first of all, my wife and youngest son and I are total foodies. In fact we're a little snobbish: if a place isn't good, we have mental checklists as to why with plenty of details. So, I have to explain more about the tagline. That came to mind first because as we were driving away, my wife was trying to find the words and just said, "right from the first bite I just loved..." and then her eyes went wide and she realized she was admitting that their tagline was true! Will definitely be a regular from now on because having great food is #1 priority but the people are the best so that's a double win! read more

Disappointing. It had a decent rating (4.3 on Yelp; 4.8 on Google), but I don't know how. First, it's never a good sign when the parking lot of a supposedly good restaurant, is empty. Tried to order online, but you can't checkout; have to go to "Slice.com". Requested extra cheese on the pizza, but there was barely ANY cheese on it to begin with. Crust was just okay. We loved this place before the new owners took over. First the owner had her kid in the kitchen and in the restaurant screaming. Totally uncalled for. Then we ordered wings and pizza. We were the ONLY ones in the restaurant and took 40 minutes to get the first half of our wings. Because they screwed up and made the wrong ones. The first half wings were not cooked all the way, had to send them back. Then they brought the second half wings. Then about 5 minutes later brought our pizza. It was BURNT!! How are you going to bring a BURNT pizza to the table! We refused it and had to wait another 10 minutes for a new one. Horrible experience.
