I had the tarragon chicken salad sandwich last weekend and it was so good that it would be my usual order if I lived in Baltimore! It's a hearty sandwich that consists of tender chunks of chicken mixed with grapes, toasted almonds, mayo, and a vinaigrette with a bed of greens in a delicious roll. It's also much cheaper than anything comparable in Philadelphia ($5.00 for the sandwich!). I also had a cup of gingered butternut squash soup. I had to salt it to bring out the flavors, but once it's salted you can really taste the rich flavor of squash. It's also another generous portion for a reasonable price ($4.00 for a cup). Soup orders also come with perfectly crisp and delicious tiny slices of bread for dipping. The service is welcoming and kind, and the atmosphere is really cute. There are painted tables that represent the assortment of soups. Ultimately, this is a place that I would consider hitting up anytime I were in town and looking for a delightful and affordable lunch that's perfect for a student budget. read more

This place is truly a gem. From placing my order over the phone to enjoying my food, this was one most pleasant experiences I've ever had. The gentleman on the phone was kind and efficient and he graciously greeted me with my food less then 10 minutes later. My clam chowder was hot, fresh and light and the old bay on the side was the perfect amount of seasoning for this comforting bowl of soup. Excellent, homemade soup and salad. I eat here at least once a week and generally opt for a vegan soup and either a house or a vegan salad. The soups change daily and occasionally, a different salad and/or sandwich make it up on the board. The website is also updated daily. They are categorized as vegan, vegetarian, meat, and seafood. The house salad is the same as the vegan, but with goat cheese and no red peppers. The french onion soup is excellent. With the exception of the french onion, none of the soups are salted, so you'll need to add a bit to your liking. They provide packets of sea salt. A couple of rounds of toasted french bread are served with the soup. Iced red tea and espresso are served, as well as water and cans of something (I can't remember, but it's not soft drink, rather flavored water). They also sell frozen soups. They take cash or cards (via square). Owners are cool and friendly. Tip: you've got to walk up a flight of stairs to get in. It's also connected by interior stairs to OK Natural Foods. read more

I had the Maryland Crab soup and a Pork Banh Mi about two weeks ago, and it was my first visit. The service was very pleasant and personal, and the food was delicious. I have to admit, at first the Banh Mi seemed like "too much flavor," but afterwards, I was looking for yet another bite. I have lived in the South end of Mount Vernon for almost 2.5 years, and this was my first time trying Soup's On, and I have to say, I have been missing out. I go to UB so I'm glad this place exists. I don't always find a soup I want on their daily selection, but I can always rely on their maryland crab soup when I need a warm bowl for lunch. If I need to take the soup to go, they'll give you a tiny container with old bay on the side! Glorious! I've tried around 10 different soups in all four categories mentioned above, and each one has been outstanding. My favorites so far have been the various seafood chowders I had tried. One of those restaurants embodying Baltimore kitschy qualities, this place has the most wonderful soups for soup-kind-of-days. I had he sweet potato chile soup and loved it. I especially like that they keep it low on saltiness so we can just add however much suits our taste buds. Their sandwiches were pretty good too. I love how they (I'm assuming) glaze them w a bit of oil and put them in the pan (or toaster oven?) to get the right any of crisp on the outside and softness inside. I did wish that their mozzarella sandwich, which was open faced, was easier to bite. But can't complain about the amt of yummy sundried tomatoes they added in there :p My bf had the pulled pork sandwich and he LOVED it. Yesterday went to Soups On for lunch. I'm trying to eat healthier and they have vegetarian and vegan options. It's a cute little place, not fancy at all, and service is quick. You go to the counter to order and your food is ready in ten mins or less. I did a half sandwich half salad combo - vegan sandwich with eggplant and portabello with an herb aioli and a vegan salad. The balsamic vinaigrette that comes with the salad was a little too bitter for me and it was thick, it's probably made in house, but not bad on top of the salad. The sandwich was good, it's warm and a pretty big portion. If you are looking for a quick healthy lunch this is probably the place you want to go to. read more

Love this place! I've been here a few times, it's the most satisfying place to eat for lunch. I'm getting excited for winter because the soup here is phenomenal! I normally order the vegetarian options. You can pair a sandwich with a soup. I normally get the portobello sandwich or mozzerella/tomato sandwich with the maryland crab soup or a vegetable soup. They provide sea salt or old bay in the cozy dine-in area. The times I've been there, there hasn't been no more than 2 other couples there so it's usually quiet. This is hands-down the best restaurant in Baltimore (I went to some famous crab-cake places but this is really what I remember). I went up to visit my buddy and just wanted to keep coming back here. They do a soup and sandwich combo and both are extremely tasty. Every bite is great and you walk out feeling healthy. The prices are even fair! Stopped in here completely on a whim, as it was colder than I had anticipated and soup sounded like an excellent lunch option. After all, there aren't many reasons to look forward to summer ending, but soup is definitely among them. It's an interesting location, with a long hallway that diverges into a seating area and the counter/kitchen area where you place orders. Everything on the menu looked tempting, but I went with a pint of the Maryland Crab soup to go. It came out with a side of fresh bread and a small container of Old Bay (because, as anyone who has spent any time in Baltimore is aware, there is virtually no food that can't be improved by the addition of Old Bay). All that for $6, which is a pretty incredible deal. The soup itself was great: a light tomato/seafood base with big chunks of crab, veggies, and potato. As expected, it became even more delicious with a healthy dose of Old Bay. The bread was disappointingly dry and flavorless, but it did soak up the broth nicely. Can't wait to try more of their soups, particularly once the last vestiges of the summer weather start to dissipate. read more

I love this quaint little sandwich shop! I went here for lunch and ordered a simple tomato and mozzarella sandwich. When it came, it smelled so good. The fresh buffalo mozzarella was so creamy and tasty. It was an open faced sandwich, and it was difficult to hold but it was well worth all the mess :) I am definitely coming back to try the eggplant sandwich and their soups, it looked so delicious. Best soup in Baltimore! I have been to Soup's On a couple of times on recommendation from a close friend and the quality has always been top notch. The brothers who run the joint are so awesome and continue to deliver some of the best food in the area. Mount Vernon is such a great neighborhood and this place, for sure, has to be a must-visit. The soup and sandwich combo is great and I cannot think of a better deal for what you would get elsewhere. I would for sure go with the crab soup! My wife and I spotted this place when we had just a few minutes for a quick bite before the opera at the Lyric. It's a quaint little spot with one guy running the place. We shared a cup of soup and a sandwich. The butternut squash was delicious, but really hot, so careful when you eat it...it's hard to let it cool because it's so good! The roasted pork sandwich had goat cheese, arugula, caramelized onions and strawberries...also VERY delicious!! I had the French onion soup and a roast pork, carmelized onions, strawberry & arugala sandwich. Both were amazing, especially together! Love this place! Every time I've been here there are cheap eats, service is pretty good and the soups are really delicious! I've only ever tried their vegan offerings. They're pretty top notch. I LOVE this place. Food is always fresh and tasty. I think I've had just about everything on the menu. When I turned vegetarian, I was happy to know I could still come and indulge in their vegetarian/vegan selections. #1 Prepare to wait sometimes (10 mins or so). Obviously it can be frustrating, but they're busy for a reason! The food is worth the wait. #2 Always get salt on the side. The chef doesn't salt the soups. I see in other reviews that this annoys people, but personally I like the freedom to adjust the salt level on my own. #3 The soup is BOILING HOT. Be careful even after you've walked a few blocks back to your office and open it to have it burn your tongue. Patience my friend. Also, the hot temperature contributes to the "watery" texture; as it cools, it will thicken. #4 They have a "soup reward program" for their frozen pints of soup. Score! I think the only thing I would change would be their soup spoons...they're kind of sharp and can occasionally cut the sides of your mouth if you're not careful.
