I had an expectantly bad experience with Chris from Sound Door Services and can't recommend them. Chris seemed like a nice local vendor, and I went with him despite having offers that were slightly lower because he assured me that he would handle everything for the fee that I was quoted over a thousand. I had purchased a $2,500 Clopay door from Home Depot, which wasn't a product that he stocked or normally worked with, but agreed to the install. To his credit, he was responsive to my communication and provided the service on schedule. However, I was a bit irritated, when I later asked about door removal, and was told that "everything" does not include door removal and had to pay an extra $85 for it or he would just leave it, so I paid him that amount. All seemed to be going well until the installer was wrapping up his job and wanted to point out the noise on opening and closing the door. The noise turned out to be a very loud screech, which was clearly a problem and not one that would expect his customer to overlook and just get accustomed to. When I asked his installer about it, he said it was because of the Clopay mechanics and there wasn't anything they could do about it. I asked him to get Chris on the phone and he also said it was a consequence of the Clopay winding mechanism. I then started questioning him as to how he knew it was Clopay and not a result of something else. I asked if he could call Clopay to confirm that was the cause, thinking I may be able to return the new garage door, or a warranty claim. We had had an earlier discussion in which he asked me if I wanted to replace the torsion spring and the mechanics with the equipment that he stocks. I asked him if the springs supplied with the door were unsafe or of inferior quality, Chris replied no, and even pointed out that it was a knockoff from a high-end brand that is no longer commonly used and the part on the other frame rail worked fine. So I was skeptical about his insistence that the issue was from poor quality components of the Clopay door. When I expressed my concerns, he then proceeded to tell the installer that he did not need to be here. I certainly was exasperated that they were not considering my views on a thousand-dollar job. After they left, I did a little research and found that my skepticism was warranted a good installer should spell out exactly what is going wrong with the door. At that point, I admit that I did become angry. The next day, Chris arrived to resolve the issue and found it was a matter of spraying more lubricant on the part. So, it appears that it was an installation issue. In our final discussion, Chris, stuck to his guns and did not show a shred of acknowledgement of his poor handling of the situation and the mistake in his diagnosis. He just retracted his position and said he never said it was Clopay part was the cause. read more

This was another company I was looking at to get a quote from. Their website is pretty extensive with good homeowner info on garage doors and maintenance. I called, the guy answered and scheduled me. I just had someone that I went with that had easier availability but I feel like Sound Door would have been just as good. I like that they have pricing on their website and what homeowners should expect. They seem honest and fair. Giving them 5 stars even though I did not get work done by them. Just the overall impression. They don't seem like they would take advantage of folks just trying to get their garage repaired. read more

I was lucky enough to call Sound Door Services for a 2nd opinion on my noisy garage door. I wanted to have it checked before it stopped working altogether. Another company came and this happened: Called them and told them I had an issue with my garage door, that it was working but making a loud noise. Tech came promptly and the first words he said were, "Your door is broke(n)". He showed me a couple of small cracks in the exterior and a split between 2 panels. He did not inspect the interior at all. He called his boss and gave me a price of $2750.00 - $2200 for the door, $300 for the labor plus tax. I got a written estimate, thanked him and sent him off. I then called Sound Doors. They estimated that they would come around 1 - 3 pm, but actually showed up early. They inspected the door and told me that I had to replace 3 hinges. Total cost, $185.00. They texted the time they were going to show up and they showed up on time. They were pretty quick in their work. It took an hour to replace both door springs. The installers did a good job. Fast, responsive and flexible. Springs broke on my garage door Sunday afternoon and sent out a few quotes via Yelp and he was 1st to respond and one of the better prices too. He was able to come that Monday and fix it, and even adjusted his schedule later in the evening so I didn't have to leave work early to meet him. He was professional when he showed up and finished the job under an hour and my garage door was back in business. Receipts and everything was done electronically which I prefer to keep records more easily. After installing a garage door opener myself (which was foolish of me, its so much work if you're installing from scratch) I realized the old springs were failing. I got 4 quotes and Sound Door tied for lowest price and had great reviews, so easy decision for me to pick them. I really appreciated their communication via email, so many contractors just say to call in, which is really annoying when you're picking vendors while on a plane. I was really impressed with their systems which sent texts for example when the guys were on their way, emailed me a receipt, etc. I know its not rocket science, but so many contractors are still stuck in the 90s using carbon copy receipts and only taking checks. New springs not only solved the problem but they helped calibrate and program the opener I installed. Everything works great and I'm happy to finally have a working garage door opener! read more

I have a three bay detached garage with a big RV bay in the middle. The prior owner(s) never installed an opener in the middle bay, I'm guessing it was because it was too tall or they didn't use it or whatever. The door is a big, heavy metal roll up thing that was freaking out my retired engineer dad. He was worried it would kill me if the old tension spring failed. Bless dad's pointed head, he's been on the planet 40 years longer than I have and has seen some random bad shiit happen. So I consulted Yelp to find a good garage door place in my neck of the woods. I called on a Tuesday. John answered right away. I told him what I needed. He quoted me a reasonable price (something like $450 installed) and said they would come do the job Friday. No, I didn't need to take time off from work, I just gave them a key code to my garage. How awesome is that? On Friday John called me and said someone called in sick and they might be able to still come, but they might have to push it to next week. No worries, this is not a garage door emergency. They didn't come Friday. Someday the following week (I don't remember which), John called and said he hadn't forgotten about me, but my installation required two people and as soon as he could get that figured out they would come. Cool beans. The convenience of not having to be home turned into a bit of an inconvenience as time lapsed as we had to play musical cars to keep that middle bay empty. I could have reached out to ask that they let me know the day before they were coming, but I didn't and that's on me, not them. I'm the one who told them this was not an emergency - and it wasn't. In any case, they came two Fridays after they said they would, and everything worked out great. The two installers that came were perfect...Chris and I forgot the other name, sorry. They were quick, friendly, professional and explained the new-fangled wi-fi features, you know, just in case I want to open my garage door when I'm 1000 miles away. I added on an exterior key pad for $39 and the total bill with tax was $580. Everything is working 100%, we are happy, and would definitely use these folks again when the need arises. Don't even bother looking for another garage door company, this is the team you want to work with. We have a 1940s home that somehow still had the original door, which barely opened and rarely stayed close. Time to replace it. Sent emails to four different companies to get bids, Sound Door Service was BY FAR the best experience in that process right off the bat. Pricing was comparable to the only other competitor who actually got us a bid, but what we loved about SDS was Chris, the guy who showed up to do the estimate, talked us through different options and then presented us with the breakdown and final cost within five minutes of showing up. Amazing. No waiting around for weeks to see if the project bid was going to be reasonable. Jon was flexible scheduling a time to come do the install, and had Baylen and Derrick come out about a week after we got our bid to put the door in. They did a great job, were super nice and friendly, and did a complete walk through of the new door and all its functionality. It has only been a few days since they installed it, but they let us know if we had any problems that they'd quickly come take care of it, and I totally believe that they will if anything comes up. Working perfect so far though. A+ company, everyone we worked with was awesome, and we will be recommending them to anyone in the Greater Seattle area who needs anything for their garage door.
