My only complaint are the side serving cups that are almost a quarter inch raised from the bottom of the cup so it looks like you're getting your money's worth, but not really. It's empty space and for the price of the sides, it's overpriced. It's a pretty penny you're going to spend here, but it's good. Traveling home after doing some work in Texas and saw the sign. Why not? Glad I did. It was cafeteria style which makes it hard for the choices. I decided on the 1 meat platter with 2 sides. The 4 ribs were so tender and very well seasoned. I did try one with the sauce but no sauce is needed. The Mac and cheese was good but the potato salad tastes similar to what my grandma used to make. Now that I'm full, I get an ice cream cone that comes with the meal. There's also free refills but I only opted for water. Everyone was patience and very friendly. Saw their sign on the interstate as we were traveling and pulled in. As we entered it smelled like heaven if you love BBQ. The sign inside indicates that they have been serving Texas since 1974. The ribs and brisket both were right on spot. My friend stated his chicken and the baked potato was also good. We will stop again if craving BBQ and in this part of Texas. I would give just one start but I have to admit that I did eat all of the sausage. Everything else went straight into the trash. I ordered the two meat plate for $22. I had ribs, sausage, Mac n cheese and fried okra. Pro: the presentation is excellent for a drive thru bbq spot. The sausage cut on a diagonal and ribs all uniformly cut. Cons: Mac n cheese was dressed with breadcrumbs and very cheese however the cheese tasted more like off off brand cheese product. The ribs looked pretty but were soo smoky that it completely ruined the nice texture of the meat. Lastly, the sausage was seasoned with the essence of spaces because it had no flavor. The casing had a nice bite but the meat just tasted like blah. The fried okra breading was thick and flavorless. The regular bbq sauce didn't add and flavor. Overall, this was a waste of my money. The place itself was clean and cozy. My husband and I got the baked potatoes stuffed with chopped brisket. I was pleased because the gentleman removed the fat from the brisket before chopping and placing it on the potato without even asking. I wish they gave a little bit more meat (chopped brisket) on the potatoes other than that it was well made. I went here as I wanted to give this a try. There is another one near my house, but there was an accident and I did not want to deal with that. This looks smaller than it looks on the outside. The bbq place is like a cafeteria style. I ended up getting the sandwich special which ones with 2 sides or 1 baked potato. I ended up getting the baked potato an brisket. However, they had a good selection of sides, I wanted to try like the coleslaw, potato salad and cream corn. They probably need to update their credit card machine as it took them 2 to 3 minute per transaction. If I known that I would have brought cash. Food itself was good, the brisket was not dry and the sauce was excellent. They do pick up the trash so make sure you leave your plate there as I was looking for the trash can. We were in town for a tournament and we love good BBQ- this spot did not disappoint! Don't let the lackluster interior fool you.. the food was SO GOOD! Great Texas BBQ that's pretty affordable. Tons of different cuts of meat and sides to choose from all made on site. The regular BBQ sauce was nothing to write home about but the spicy sauce was good! My co workers and I had no idea where to eat, but I saw a billboard for Soulmans BBQ - they have several locations and recently opened in Terrell. Being a Monday evening there were several tables of people eating in - which we all felt was a good. I ordered the 3 meat combo with sides of mac and cheese and pinto beans. The meats are served dry with warm sauce on the side. The brisket was my favorite BC it was so tender, sausage was spicy and flavor full and my ribs were also delish. The only negative item was I thought the meats were missing a smoked flavor which I prefer on my BBQ meats. A friend suggested this place, and being a native Texan I couldn't figure out why I'd never tried it! Easy location to get to, little off the highway. Very friendly employees. The menu is easy, lots of choices and average bbq prices. Plenty of sides to pick from. Even though they're under a heat lamp, they're not bad. I had a chopped bbq brisket sandwich with a side of creamed corn. The brisket was delicious! Bbq sauce was very yummy! The creamed corn however was so spicy I couldn't eat it. Here I am.... Round 2 @ a different Soul Man's BBQ joint. Why? I was invited to try a different location, due to my unpleasant 1st experience at another location. . So, my son and I stopped by for the experience, hoping we would receive better service. Ummmmmmm..... NO. We walked in, there was a 1/2 greeting they didn't seem thrilled to be there (3 ladies) behind the counter. The family that came in right behind me, their spirit and attitude changed to a "more bubbly" welcome - wow! . Anyways, I asked to speak w/ manager and received a reply "Yea' he's here." I asked could I speak with him please... One of the ladies went to the back and came back, but didn't state he was on his way, she mentioned to him anyone was up front, she said nothing. I waited 4 mins and still no appearance of the manager. I asked again - can someone let the manager (L.) know I need to speak with him please? A different young lady walked to the back and came back and said to me - "He said - ok." I stood there again for another 5 mins this time and still no manager. I ordered my replacement meal and got to the register, the young lady told me $22 and some change. I stated to her - It's a replacement order Hun, that's why I wanted to speak with the manager (L.). She zero'd the total out and walked to the back again.... Then appears the manager (L.). I introduced myself and let him know who ai was and I was invited to this location for a difference experience. He wanted to know what happened at the other location - "What happened at the other location?" I didn't go into details; ai told him it was just not good service at all. He asked did I get my food and thanks for stopping by. There was no I'm sorry it took me so long to come out, nothing... he was just going through the motions. I don't get it! Walked to used them restroom and it wasn't pleasant. Totally turned off.... . I was yet AGAIN disappointed in the lack of good CS experience at some places. CS has went completely OUT the door for sooo many businesses and they have become extremely relaxed and don't focus on it, which is what makes a company exceptional along with good products/items/food. The restaurant wasn't busy AT ALL. There were a family of (4) sitting at a table, and the family of (3) who came in behind me... That's it. Soul Man may have been in business for a very long time due to its local regulars and they catch traveler like myself. When I travel all over the US - I look for good places to stop and become by resting areas; but they won't go on my list of - 'Stop Here' as I travel through TX. . Food tasting: The 1/2 chicken was moist and taste well, the Mac n cheese was watered down... the mash potato had zero taste to them either. The turkey was moist and on an actual full bun this time. The chicken and turkey was devoured, but the other food was trashed. . As a previous restaurant owner - just as my employees - You get two strikes. They have received those 2. May their locals continue to support their chain. If you are looking for great CS and good experience combined - this may not be a great spot. If you don't give a rats @$$ about CS, then go for it. Everything here was really good, we've gotten the Chuck wagon a few different times and always really enjoy it. This was my first time dining at this location and I must say I was very impressed. A man was cutting up brisket when we got there which looks oh so juicy, he greated us while we waited for the lady to tend to the customers in front of us, he even made a joke about the melted butter being mistaken for banana pudding. ( My husband had mistaken it for nacho melted cheese ) We got 2 out of sights (or OOS) specials and 2 drinks. Everything was delicious and my favorite side was the spicy potatoes. We have a Terrell Tigers card that is buy 1 OOS special and 2 drinks get one OOS free that good till Aug of 2021, so imagine we will be trying lots of the different sides while we enjoy this card. I appreciated the savory BBQ smell when I walked in the front door. We were greeted by a young friendly staff. I had the pulled pork sandwich plate with two sides, my husband had a sliced brisket sandwich one side. I liked my sandwich although a little fatty. My husband didn't think his was sliced brisket, it was more pulled-off brisket that was a little cold. The best thing was the fried okra! It was a little well done but who doesn't like crunchy fried okra! The BBQ sauce was also really good! Stay away from the coleslaw it's watered down and had no flavor. The green beans are straight out of the can. After eating we noticed a few leftover plates from previous customers who's unfinished dinners agreed with us.
