Chow fun is a fav and a go-to order so glad this has landed in Soul Rice's menu! * CHINESE BROCCOLI w/oyster sauce is no longer on the new menu. Wish it was still there. * SPINACH or BROCCOLI, sautéed w/garlic. Either choice is tasty but the broccoli fares better for takeout. * WOR WON TON SOUP in a light, clear broth sprinkled with carrots, bok Choi... topped with some sliced scallions. Very fresh tasting broth with big juicy won tons * GREEN SCALLION PANCAKES. Loved the crispy, not-doughy texture but was lacking a more oniony tang. * SALT & PEPPER PORK CHOPS tossed w/garlic, onion & jalapeños. This is a satisfying, flavorful dish though it's best eaten at the restaurant and may not travel well for takeout. Works for me either way. Ordering is effortless and pickup is easy. It cured the craving! Just in town for a few days, and I wanted some Chinese food, but not steam table takeout. The walnut prawns were delicious, though my companion wasn't excited about the pumpkin hiding in there. My bbq pork chow mein was a bit dry, but my fault for ordering with no vegetables. Needed some food but specifically wanted salt n pepper fish. Seen this place had it but reviewing their pics only one person has ordered it. It looked good enough in the pictures so I ordered via phone. Got there within 10 minutes paid and got my order shortly after. The fish was fragrant upon getting into the car so I was excited to eat. Opened the box and seen it was filled up to the top. The fish was placed over a bed of lettuce and was mixed with garlic and jalapenos. The breading is delicious. Tried the Kung Pao Shrimp and Chow Fun. The food portions were good and ready quick, but lacked flavor. The Kung Pao shrimp was not spicy at all and sauce was dry. Same with the Chow Fun, flavor was missing and it tasted like plain noodles. read more

They have some solid options but they also have some bad options. I'd stay away from the appetizers, the only one that's okay are the egg rolls but they're overpriced. The entrees are delicious. Was skeptic to go here because I didn't love the previous place that used to be here and wasn't exactly sure about the place based on the name. Don't judge a book by its cover right? lol. Walked in and you can see it's been redone. Place is now really bright with new floors, tables, and seating. Daniel, the owner was really friendly and attentive and so was his staff. Ordered some dishes. Thankful we came in when we did because the joint started getting crowded. Got our food and off the bat you can tell it was not overly salted/msg'd. Beans cooked to perfection. Sole fish fillets, nice and crisp. The honey walnut prawns had bits of pumpkin in it. Which was a pleasant surprise. I realized after yea it's stated in the menu but I honestly didn't read the menu since these are our go to dishes we order at all Chinese restaurants we go to. Pan fried noodles were also really tasty. The only dish I didn't care for was the hot and sour soup. I didn't order that one. It's not on my typical food rotation but the hubs said everyone loves it so he ordered it. I have to be in the mood to eat that soup. Other than that everything was great. Hah. I remember trying this place back when they first opened up, after they replaced Rice N Roll soon after COVID I think. The entire menu was basically just different flavors of fried rice. Since I used to frequent Rice N Roll, I figured I'd give this place a try. Well, I tried the rice (what else?? lol), with some kind of shredded egg on top, as well as mushrooms, and it wasn't worth it. The price was much higher than what Rice N Roll used to offer, and the options being rice only made this place VERY limited. Basically, if you wanted side dishes, you'd have to order from a separate restaurant. Why??? It's a shame because it was fairly near to me, but after that one time, I have never returned to this place. I'm just leaving this review now because I drove past it and randomly remembered what they did, replacing what was a good restaurant (Rice N Roll) with this abomination. Even my parents and close friends who used to go to this place frequently when it was Rice N Roll, stopped going after their initial experience years ago. It's been years, but I still remember my dad asking, "isn't that place just rice now?" when I showed him the menu, and he's never gone back. My parents live slightly north of Skyline Blvd and they just go past this place to order from Kenny's Cafe in Pacifica proper instead. Personally, just go to Panda Express instead. New year, New (expanded) menu! We ordered by phone, 3 new dishes: beef pan fried noodles, shrimp chow fun, & sesame chicken. All were pretty good! The standout was by far the sesame chicken, since my little guys couldn't stop eating this dish. Perfectly fried & just right amount of sauce. The 2 other noodle dishes complimented the chicken dish pretty well...I'll be back for that chow fun! Very nice quaint restaurant in an up and coming locale. For one person serving a party of 18 with other customers in the restaurant, the young man did well. He was on it. Food perfect. The food has evolved to a gourmet Chinese restaurant that has the best food I've had even in downtown San Francisco or Berkeley. It made me revisit my reviews and update this. What a find and it's on a major highway that is off the path so it's a great place to stop and get dazzled with some amazing egg foo young, or prawns or fried pork or Korean chicken wings.... You could eat your way through the menu and never get bored. I really really really hate to say this but we disliked out food a lot. The beef chow fun was one of the worst we've had in awhile. Soggy and wet noodles that were flavorless. Let's go to the Mu Shu Chicken. Again super watery and full of just watery veggies with a little chicken. I mean there's so much water I had to soak it up with napkins. Garlic noodles, again lacking flavor. Just tasted like plain noodles sprinkled with garlic powder with no culinary experience. The eggplant had a lot of onions and was not thoroughly cooked and was chewy. Our to to order which we placed 1/2 hur before we picked it up was not ready in time. Will NOT be coming back based on price and quality and taste of the food. Panda express would be better and cheaper. read more

Stop here for lunch with a colleague on a Saturday after a board meeting. We were in the area and wanted to try something different. Because of her food allergies, we were a bit limited to what we got. We got the Shanghai dumplings, sweet and sour pork, orange chicken and steamed rice. Both protein plates had a good flavor and maintain its crispiness. Probably the best crispiness I have experienced. However, though the both had good flavor, it was slightly hard to differentiate the taste. Maybe shouldn't have order both sour plates. The soup dumplings were good, but was not unique. Let me tell you. WOW. The food was delicious! My husband and I have been looking for a new Chinese restaurant to go and we're so happy to have found this gem. The prawns with walnuts and pumpkin: 10/10 super packed with flavor and the prawns were huge! The basil and garlic eggplant: 10/10 they seasoned it well! The mangolian beef: 8/10 definitely on the spicier end which I liked, but ofc lots of onions. The salt and pepper porkchop: 10/10 One of my favorites and was well seasoned. Crab Rangoon: 10/10 The portion sizes were generous as well for take out! You could easily feed 3-4 people depending on how hungry everyone is. Good quality fried rice for take-out, but hard to justify the price. We were looking for a quick bite to eat and decided to try Soul Rice. We were fans of the place that used to be there (Rice and Roll), and we were hesitant by the small menu and high prices ($16+ for fried rice?), but our hunger took over. We ordered the XO Seafood and the Basil Chicken Fried rice, along with the Tom Goong soup and the Chinese Broccoli. Both of the rice dishes were extremely flavorful and had a good balance of protein and veggies to the rice. The flavors of each rice was distinctly different, and I would rate it higher compared to the fried rice of some of my other favorite Chinese takeout spots. And while the size of the plate was good, I still cannot justify the price. The soup was a bizarre taste that was part hot & sour soup and part sweet & sour sauce - mainly broth and onions, and would not recommend. The chinese broccoli was solid, served with hoisin sauce. The inside has been converted to serve as a mainly take-out place. I didn't see a spot where you and your family can sit. The only staff member I saw was sitting behind the cashier counter window. I did appreciate that they recognized my name and was able to point which paper bag was my order. I liked it and would love to eat it again if someone ordered it for me. But I probably would prefer to still eat the rice as a side to some other savory protein dishes that Soul Rice does not offer. read more

Decor is simple yet bright and clean. The menu is not too complex but has just enough for you to try a bit here and there. We ordered 6 dishes and had plenty of leftovers. Honey Walnut Prawns w/Pumpkin - tasty, big shrimps, big portion. Salt & Pepper Pork Chop - big portion, however was lacking a bit of flavor. Combo House Fried Rice - your standard fried rice, no complaints. Garlic Noodles - buttery and garlicky, noodle texture was good, this was easily my favorite dish. Mixed Seafood with Vegetables - a classic Chinese dish to get when you need veggies in your diet. This was tasty. Fish dish - we had one dish that I believe that was customized. My SO orders his lunch from here often so I looked over the menu since D2 wanted Chinese today. *fried calamari- nice light batter, lightly seasoned, and the pieces were tender not overly chewy * pan fried pork potstickers- just okay, I did appreciate the vinegar soy dipping sauce it came with *salt and pepper pork chops- crispy fried with onions and jalapeños *salt and pepper fish filet- same batter as the calamari, nice and light, onions and jalapeños. Probably my favorite * Mongolian beef- tender beef slices, mildly spicy, maybe too many onions, nice flavor We're always looking for good Chinese takeout by our house.
