This review is for to go coffee and pastries. Be prepared to wait in line for awhile. Yes it's popular and there are lot of people working making coffee drinks and in the kitchen and serving food. Everything stops at the one cashier in a line that goes out the door and around the corner. We went on. Sunday and wanted coffee drinks and pasties to go. It's the same line that you would order if you are dining in. The cashier does everything from taking the order to getting pastries out of the case. Surely she can use a teammate. The drinks were on point. Ordered a charcoal latte and dirty chai. The almond lemons cake piece was tiny for $7.95. Banana choco walnut for $4.75 was better. Be prepared to pay 75 cents more for almond milk or oat milk substitute. Not worth a long wait just for coffee and pasties. Maybe next time will try some of their breakfast items as a sit down.
It is a busy, hectic place, but that also says a lot about how much people like it. No matter when I come, it usually seems packed: inside, outside, and in the different seating areas. I usually have to circle around a few times before I can figure out where I might find a corner to sit down and get some work done. It is not the calmest place to work, especially during busy times, but once you find a spot, it can be a nice place to settle in with coffee and a laptop. The biggest selling point is definitely the location. It is right by the beach in Pacifica. Soul Grind is also Pacifica's first coffee roastery, and they roast their coffee in-house, which gives the place more personality than a standard coffee shop. The whole vibe is very beachy, casual, and local, with a mix of surfers, people grabbing coffee after being near the water, and others trying to work or meet up. They have a pretty large coffee menu, plus food options like pastries, sandwiches, quiche, melts, and breakfast items.
This was my second visit to this casual cafe spot. I didn't write a review on my first visit because it was a bit of a letdown. One, the customer in front of us took a long time deciding what to order and we missed the weekend brunch menu by 8 minutes. Two, the cashier gave us the wrong number card so the staff couldn't find us to deliver our food. And three, though this was a cafe style place, customer service was subpar. We decided to give it another try because there must be a reason why this place was always busy. Came a bit early this time. The line was long but was moving fairly fast. There is QR code for the menu so I'd say check it out while you wait in line for at least 20 minutes! It will help to expedite your ordering process once you get to the cashier. There's a good amount of seatings both indoors and outdoors. A good spot to leisurely enjoy your meal if you're not pressed for time. I have had the Vietnamese iced coffee which was very good. This time around had the Cubano (their specialty latte) which was smooth, balanced, and so good! I was able to order the Irish breakfast this time that was only offered on their weekend brunch menu and only until 2pm. We waited a while for our food. And when we finally did, it was not even warm. This was a bit disappointing! The saving grace were the roasted potatoes and sautéed mushrooms that came with my breakfast dish. They were very good. The side salad that accompanied the Lorraine quiche was also very good. I would come back to this cafe definitely for the Cubano, the Ube cream puff, and maybe try some other pastries. Yelpers did not let us down on the recommendation! Soul Grind has it ALL! Great service, amazing ambiance, and delishous food and coffee! We had our (nearly) standard almond milk decaf lattes. They were creamy, with nutty-warm coffee--and they even made pretty designs, which is challenging with almond milk. W ordered the almond croissant which was flacky, buttery, and had just a bit of almond spread. I had the salmon toast, which is served on a wheat sourdough bread and includes a light layer of cream cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, chopped red onions, and capers. This was seriously the best salmon toast I've ever had. I split it with W and was a bit sad about that, but that's how much I love him. The toast came with a side salad of mixed greens. I wasn't expecting much but the vinaigrette wowed me! Not over dressed and they used a citrus, which I'm fairly confident was grapefruit. Yum! Since we split my toast, I was still hungry, so I went back for more food. It's so hard to choose because everything looks so good. So I went back to the pastry case and ordered the blueberry clafoutis. I've never had this traditionally French desert but heard about them on cooking shows. This version was made with a shortbread crust and had cherries inside the smooth and creamy custard, topped with fresh and sweet blueberries. Next time your in or driving through Pacifica--dont miss Soul Grounds!
I was VERY impressed by the food here! We just stopped by to eat after surfing so we were very hungry. Here are my thoughts: Food: their coffee was fine, I was expecting more because they specialize in roasting their beans I assume but it was still great coffee. Can't complain there. The food was the absolute best. High recommend their waffles and sandwiches. We tried so hard to figure out what was so different but we settled on everything from their waffle to their whipped cream to their syrup, was top notch! Service: the people there are nice, they clean up their tables quick so we were able to find a table fast for our party of 7. Ambiance was great they have a pretty big seating capacity, both indoor and outdoor seating were available.
This is an ideal breakfast or brunch spot located just about on the beach. If you want an epic morning, come here when they open around 7am so you can watch the fog burn off as the sun rises over the hills. They do the old school display of having the real dishes out on display (mimis cafe, anyone?) which I find absolutely endearing. It helps you understand the portion sizes and no one is caught off guard once you get your food. We've gone here a few times in the last month and we got the same food items each time. Avo & egg toast - 5/5 - the bread alone is 5/5. It's hard boil eggs, avocado, tomato, with dressed greens on top of rustic bread. It's both hearty and light at the same time. Buddha bowl- 5/5- husband raves about it every time. The tomatoes and quinoa are the stars in my opinion. Deliciously roasted tomatoes with quinoa is a delicious dressing. Quiche Lorraine- 5/5- no edits necessary The pastries! Ok, so 3/5- I'm not sure if it's their proximity to the ocean/ humidity but their croissants taste wet without that buttery flaky crisp. From what I've hear this is a local favorite and for a good reason. Local coffee roasters, wonderful coffee, and pastries. Ample parking with indoor and outdoor seating. The chocolate croissant is amazing! Paired with their coffees or matcha delicious. The area is very busy and there were lots of people here we almost couldn't get a seat inside. The food items we had were decent. My sister had trouble eating her sandwich because it was so big and Ive had better lox. This place is truly an experience with local surf shops Nextdoor it's work stopping by to explore. I really enjoyed coming here and I would recommend if you're in the area.
Whoa! I'm coming back for their breakfast for sure! We swung by for coffee and there was a huge line out the door to order. We were probably 15th in line when we had a thought to order our coffee online instead. We did so, got out of line, and went straight inside to wait for our drinks at the pick up area. We waited and waited and waited for about 20 minutes but we're trying to be considerate of how busy they were, so we sat there in front of the bar just chatting (hoping we would hear our names for our drinks after given a 10 minute approximate wait time online.) After all that time, someone decided to ask us what we were waiting for (2 lattes!) and then told us that we should've checked in with the baristas earlier. Otherwise, they won't make the drinks if they don't know that you're already there. What a weird way to operate!
Uniqueness: A coffee shop with a great selection of pies and sweet pastries and as well as a large assortment of brunch/lunch dishes too. The pies here are surprisingly good and not something you'd typically see at a coffee shop. On a rare visit to Pacifica a year back, I noticed this corner coffee shop in a VERY crowded parking lot that had a decent line waiting outside so I decided to give this place a try. Thoroughly enjoying my coffee and slices of pie here, I knew I would definitely be back here for more to which I made my 2nd trip back to see what else Soul Grind has to offer. The wait time here was unfortunately just as long as my first time coming here but if you're willing to wait, the quality of their food and coffee here is great. They have an assortment of sweet pastries that are more on the pie and heavier pastries vs. croissants & lighter pastries you'd see at a coffee shop and they serve breakfast/brunch/lunch here as well. I decided to get the smoked avocado toast, ube creampuff, plus the lemon ricotta pancake with a Tiramisu latte on the side. - The salmon toast was great and as you'd expect for a salmon toast, with the capers, chives, smoked salmon, and cream cheese on top of an artisan piece of bread. The bread was bit hard for my liking so that may be a slight negative to some. - The ube creampuff was PERFECT in terms of ube flavor plus creamy filling, and would definitely get it again if it's not seasonal. - The Lemon ricotta pancake was great with the lemon ricotta sauce drizzled on top with strawberries & blueberries. - Tiramisu Latte was unique as it's a latte with Tiramisu coffee flavor that was great for a sweet latte drink. Staff here were friendly and it was a very crowded day yet they seem to have everything all in order with everyone looking like they were really enjoying their day. An excellent cafe, Soul Grind hits the mark with quality food & coffee in the Pacifica area. Even with the parking lot that is a pain to find any parking and the long lines, I would still consider coming back here for more so if you're wiling to wait a bit, you'll likely enjoy what Soul Grind has to offer. A recommended place from me for others to try.
I'm writing this review after visiting soul grind for the second time and I think I've found my new favorite cafe!! I absolutely love the vibes of the space and the location right on the beach is sublimee. My first visit I had the gingerbread latte (seasonal) and I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth the espresso was even thought I had decaf! The space was busy even on a weekday but we were able to find the perfect spot by the coffee roaster to get work done. The WiFi has a 2 hr limit and a 1 hr blackout period so plan accordingly if you wanted to get work done here. My second visit was early on a Monday morning and it was a little slower (no line out the door) but the cafe quickly filled up after 9 am. I had the Spinach and Mushroom Quiche which was delicious and came with a small side salad. A little steep in price but I think worth the experience. I also tried their chai with oatmilk and loved how spicy it was! The chai and quiche was $20. Plenty of parking on a weekday. And again so beautiful on a sunny day in Pacifica!
A beachside coffee roastery that is perfectly set up to enjoy your coffee and food with a wonderful view and ample seating. The staff is nice and they offer fast service for their large demand. I ordered the Cubano Hot and Toasted Marshmellow Latte which they were both rich, creamy and full of flavor.
Lovely vibes! Gets pretty busy, even during the weekday, but it's worth it with its perfect ambiance! With everyone around, it seriously sounds like those youtube cafe background noise videos haha. They had cozy holiday decor up in December, along with a fire place and Christmas tree. Do note that you'll get timed out of the wifi after a while (forgot how long), but it'll let you back on after a ~45 min blackout period. I got the matcha chai latte and it was extremely bitter, so I definitely wouldn't get it again unfortunately. I was able to ask for simple syrup in the front and added some cream until I was able to drink it haha. I also got the pumpkin cream cheese cupcake and it was yummy! Perfect seasonal sweet treat! I would come back just for the vibes (not the matcha lol)!
Coffee tasted good. Location good. Inside cute. Service - yikes. Person at register was confused and went to ask another staff member when we let her know we were ordering coffee but didn't say one word to us or communicate. Person that made the coffee was snarky. Overall seemed very rude, I complimented the coffee and the returned response was a laugh? And when the beer order was dropped at the table it was kind of slammed down in front of us. Vibes are way off.

Went there bright and early on a Friday. Very charming NorCal place right by the beach. They roast their beans in house im guessing. Would be a great place to get some work done or chat with someone. Really like the visual display of all the items. Drinks were nice too. read more
Love this cafe! It's got a great homey, beach vibe, and is clearly quite popular based on the weekend line. The latte was pretty solid, though maybe not worth waiting for on its own. The breakfast options were phenomenal! I had the eggs and beans (a shashuka style dish). It was nice that there was a range of great options, with some being on the healthier side! Had breakfast around 9:30 am. I had fond memories of the Bali Bowl so I had to get it again. My co eater got the lemon pancake. The sun was coming out so it got hot outside. Had to move to a different table with an umbrella. Eating outside means birds hopping in the table for scraps. My co eater loved the chai and pancake. Poor bee got into the syrup and got sticky stuck. I had a tiny stomachache not sure from the luke warm Bali bowl or water. When we left, the line triple in size. read more
Ordered a green "brekkie" + beach breakfast plate for my sister. Let's stop with the word brekkie plz. My sandwich was uncomfortably large. The toast was sooo thick and crispy + the way everything was layered on. Not sure how any human could fit this into their mouth (.....) I had to deconstruct it to eat it. I may be goofy though because they legit have the whole menu (ceramic?) replicated out on the counter but I didn't notice until we sat down since I just walked in and grabbed a menu. But I really enjoyed it nonetheless. Sis loved her platter but said her eggs were way overcooked. But thought the iced caramel vanilla latte was incredible! Huge cafe and portions. Lots of seating, including a cozy space in front of a fireplace. Very friendly service. I love this place! So cool, so pretty and great energy here. The coffee with honey flavor/sweetener is the best. I usually get some type of flavor like hazelnut or vanilla but all they had was honey. And honestly I didn't expect much from it but when I took a sip, wow it was so delicious! It was the perfect sweetness! The array of food they offer is displayed by the register and all of them look so delicious. I got the chicken empanada to go and it was the best empanada I've had. I ate it in the car while we were driving and I wish I could've gotten more. It's been 4 days since we were at Soul Grind and it is still on my mind. I'm going to have to make a drive over just to have their coffee and empanada AGAIN!! They offer pastries and fresh flowers as well. There's a nice fireplace too although it wasn't on this past weekend as it was pretty warm that day. The ambiance, the airy feel to this coffee house, the roll up garage door, ample seating inside and outside makes this spot so unique. The back patio is so cozy, inviting and pretty, it has a colorful wall that's brightly painted, full of greenery and plants and plenty of seating. A great place to catch up and relax. Love this place hence I took so many pictures. I will have to stop here every time I come through HMB. read more

The atmosphere is very chill, with a beach house-inspired decor, and dog-friendly! Matcha Latte: 5/5 - HIT THE SPOT! Honestly amazing, im surprize about how much matcha they use in this. Californian Bruschetta + AVOCADO - 3.5/5 - The crust was a bit hard. It kind of cut my mouth. Balsamic was a bit over powering. Another update since it's been a couple of years since our last update. We visit frequently and can honestly say things have gotten tremendously better. The staff is definitely friendlier and the coffee and food has been delicious overall. We love the cafe Cubano Gibraltar Hot teas Lates Fresh baked goods Waffles The new bean bowl with eggs was a nice pleasant surprise. Wow this place is busy. The line was out the door. The coffee was good and the menu is vast. As soon as you come in you can see the menu and real menu items at the register. Sooo yummy. When the food was coming out it looked so good passing by. I got the mocha and I was very pleased. There was a young girl out front with her art work. It was made with the coffee grounds - quite amazing. Her name is Chi . I'll come back and try the full Menu. I was dropping by to see the art which caught my eye. I'm glad I did. read more
Back here on a sunny Sunday. We arrived and lined up at noon, with seven people in front of us. We placed our orders and found a table inside. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks--one hot latte and one iced matcha latte--and another 20 minutes for our food. Expect to wait for your food, so if you're in a hurry, go early or skip this place, as there's usually a line to order and at least a 20+ minute wait for food. The drinks and food were good as usual. The place is cute and very welcoming. They even have a loveseat where you can sit and enjoy your drinks. Parking might be tough depending on the time, but if you circle around, you'll usually find a space. read more

This is a cute coffee shop with a nice coastal view! We came on a Friday afternoon and it was pretty busy. Plenty of seating inside and they have a small enclosed outdoor area for seating as well. I ordered the dirty bird salad bowl and iced Vietnamese coffee. The salad was good with their sauce. Lots of greens, veggies and chicken. The iced Vietnamese was lacking in that authentic Vietnamese taste, I probably would get a regular iced coffee next time. Service was a little on the slower side. My friends ordered smaller items and they got their order pretty late. For example, she ordered an empanada and it took maybe around 20min? At least the weather was nice the day we went so we could enjoy the outdoor weather while waiting! read more

I walked in this coffee shop after reading their reviews on the yelp. Beautiful coffee shop. The owner is very hands-on and a super humble guy. I just walked up to him and asked him for his preference. He literally let me get a cup of coffee and some beans. Very down to earth. The staff is super prompt. Next time I'm in Pacifica this is the spot I will choose. If you're in the spot, make sure you come with enough time to just relax the view and the environment at the shop with a cup of coffee. read more
I went here for the first time with my cousin, on our way south towards Half Moon Bay from SF... I totally loved it!!! Loved the food, the coffee and had a great time sitting outside enjoying the sun.. it's just a hop, skip and jump away from the beach.. I will definitely go back again anytime I'm in that area.. read more

There are coffee shop experiences and then there's a coffee shop experience with that great beach town experience. And in spite of the stormy gloomy weather that was happening at the time of my visit, not even inclement conditions could suppress the cool vibe this place exuded. I could tell many were locals as they rattled off their orders with ease and that sense of familiarity which added to the warmth and hometown feeling at this place. I only had coffee and so did my friend who invited me to this place, so I can't speak much of the food, but from my observations, the dishes that went whizzing past me looked great. The atmosphere there was spirited, perhaps accentuated by the fact that all the customers were inside as the outdoor spaces were inhabitable. Between the customers and the staff, the energy of this place was invigorating, one that is truly organic that I feel has developed over time. I highly recommend this place that truly embodies the term neighborhood coffee shop to its fullest. read more

Right on the beach, local surf spot, big garage style coffee roasting spot! They have really fresh food and ingredients and healthy flavors. Staff looked like they had a lot of pride in their establishment and food. We will definitely be back. read more

This is probably my seventh visit since they opened and every time, they never failed to please. 1. Caps - i'm not a fan of bright coffee roast; however, the foam is always great and that makes up for all that. 2. Bakes and pastries are fantastic, always fresh and not overly sweet for the most part. 3. Whether it's an open face sandwich or a Smashburger or salad, breads are crisp, ingredients, fresh, never over spiced or over seasoned. Service is quick if not, always personal. Places usually bustling so that doesn't matter. It is located right above the ocean waters, where you can walk over a bit and watch the surfers. You can sit outside or inside and enjoy the sun or the fog, depending on what's out that day. This is the best coffee/snack or quick eatery place in this Pacifica, in my opinion. A+ read more

What a great find in Pacifica. We stopped for breakfast and was greeted with friendly service. There is a long line but worth the wait. I had the lemon ricotta pancakes with lemon cream and berries. So light and flavorful. I had mocha with oat milk and the dark chocolate flavor was amazing and intense. My bf had the farmhouse breakfast. The sausage was cooked with tomatoes and potatoes and was a wonderful flavor. He had the iced Cubano coffee and it was smooth and you can taste the coffee. Super cute place! We came by pretty early on a Sunday morning and beat the crowd rush. Ambiance: 5/5 Huge open space that allows tons of natural lighting. They also have a backyard space with a lot of tables so you can always head outside if it's not too cold. The interior space is decorated finely and gives you a nostalgic feeling, Service: 5/5 Everyone we came across was friendly and welcoming to their shop. Drinks: 4/5 Gingerbread latte + hazelnut latte - Both didn't come out piping hot, which we appreciated because we were able to taste our drinks right away. Hazelnut's nutty flavor was on point. Both drinks were creamy and delicious. We'll come by next time and try their food. **I wish they didn't let dogs inside the space because there were SO many of them inside (I also have a dog so I have nothing against them) but one of my friends has a really bad allergy to dogs and it's concerning how they had an open door policy on them** read more
Such a cool experience heading to one of the best coffee spots in Pacifica ~ with a line out the door and surfers coming/going from the coast, it's def the spot to be. Walking distance from our overnight lodging, we had the opportunity of having Soul Grind a few times during our stay in Pacifica. You can scan a QR code to view the menu while in line to speed up your time with the cashier, or there are actual menus to grab when you get through the front door. Really great menu of in-house roasted coffee, a selection of teas, "soul chai", teas, iced drinks, and fun specialties like charcoal lattes and a latte with a home-made mix of vanilla & caramel called the Cliffside. The food menu is stellar with a little something for everyone ~ breakfast bagels, parfaits, toasts, quiches, soup/sandwiches, hearty grain salads, pastries/quick grab desserts, and brunch on weekends (Friday-Sunday;7am - 1PM). The iced chai, macchiato, and iced cold brew (slow-brewed for 18 hours), were perfection. We chose to grab brunch at another spot because we were on limited time, but would def come back to grab something fun from the menu. Friendly service, line moves quick if prepared, and can't beat the awesome people watching/surfer gazing. And there's plenty of cool merch to think over while waiting your turn. Pro-Tip: order online to skip the line on a busy brunch morning! The NOLA I got was not very good - it had a strange acidity and intense bitterness that was past the point of enjoyable. I came home and add a bunch of milk to make it barely palatable. However, the brunch foods were very solid! I got a Local's Only with scrambled eggs. The bacon was crispy, eggs very standard, and waffle was fluffy! The maple syrup was also real maple, which is a nice touch. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but it was decent and a good option if you are in Pacifica! read more

I love the beach, I love matcha and this place has both! With a wide selection of drink options, pastries and breakfast/brunch items Soul Grind is a great place to get a morning or midday coffee and meal. This is my third time here and while I had previously stuck to just ordering a matcha and a pastry, I decided to try their sandwich this time. I had the chicken club with pesto and it was delicious. My boyfriend had the pastrami sandwich and he enjoyed it too. Paired with hot drinks, the food was nice and filling. I went on a Sunday so it was pretty packed inside. Although it was cold, we sat outside and it was still really nice. They always have good music playing too. This cafe will always be my favorite and I can't wait to try the other items on their menu. They have each item displayed on the front counter so you know what to expect. Parking is easy with the big parking lot and if you love coastal views, good food and coffee, you'll surely enjoy this place as much as I have. read more

Right near the beach, this brunch spot is a hit amongst many, surfers included. We swung by for some bites before watching the waves. The service was nice and quick. We enjoyed our food at a table near the big window, viewing the waves nearby and the overcast outside. It was busy when we went (around 11am) and had a mix of brunch go-ers and studiers. We enjoyed both plates of food very much! I thought the toast was paired very well. The tomatoes, mozzarella, and vinaigrette paired well together. I also really enjoyed the eggs and pancakes very much. Eggs were perfectly scrambled and pancakes were the perfect buttermilk flavor. I didn't like the matcha (it was a bit grainy and too milky) but I really liked the touch of latte art. Overall I'd come back again for the breakfast foods! read more
I came here after working and had a hot chocolate. Since it's about 5 minute walk from beach I was able to see the sunset with my hot chocolate and it was chilly. Basically perfect end to my day. The chocolate was super good, I was pleasantly surprised. The waffle plate I got was a little dry for my liking, but I also didn't ask for extra syrup like I normally do. Overall good spot, cute ambiance, it's like a coffee shop with a view. All workers are friendly and make you feel welcomed. Check it out if you can! read more

Came for weekend breakfast & coffee. Friend said they 'got the best coffee' coastside. Got here early and there was only a short line ahead of us; just enough to have a look at the menu or rather a look at the menu display. Now that's a great idea! The vegan hummus toast caught my eye right away and I got it w/a medium roast pour-over and a bit of milk. Grabbed a table inside, coffee came first and it was okay - good enough that I want to try the dark roast. Loved the toast on the crusty bread which came with a mixed green salad and very nice vinaigrette dressing. All so fresh. This cute café is located on Highway 1 in a shopping plaza, which makes it perfect for a pit stop either before or after a beach trip. I came here for the first time last year for brunch with a companion before a day trip to Pacifica. +Cliffside -Bali Bowl -Smoked Salmon Toast While driving back from Half Moon Bay, my dad wanted some coffee, and I saw this place from the corner of my eye, so we pulled in. Our order: Cafe au Lait ($4.95) w/dark roast (+$0.50) +Single Origin Ethiopia (according to my receipt) was deep and rich. +Whole milk made for a smooth and balanced drink. -Pricing wasn't transparent: The cashier asked me what type of roast I wanted (light, medium, or dark). I selected dark roast, and she didn't mention any differences in price. After getting my receipt, I saw that it was an additional $0.50. Blue Matcha: $6.25 +Blue color and latte art made for an aesthetically pleasing drink. +Floral notes from the butterfly pea flower -Couldn't taste the matcha -As someone who usually orders boba at 25-50% sweetness, I wish this was sweeter. *Verdict: Relaxing café with creative drink & food options.
