Small Meal. BBQ Chicken, Macoroni & Cheese, Sweet Potato's
    Lex T.

Sorely disappointed after visiting the Soul Food Kitchen; Looked like Soul. Smelled like Soul. Dude behind the counter even had a Soul (Southern) accent. I know, cause he had a good ten minute conversation before recognizing me as a potential paying and hungry customer. I'm guessing with the Soul everywhere else in the establishment they might have overlooked placing it in the food. So this is a 24hr straight takeout spot. All the food sits behind the glass. For how long? Your guess is as good as mine. Not the most appetizing presentation or decor, but damn it I'm hungry for soul southern cooked food. They have Southern and Caribbean food, but with a name like Soul Kitchen I thought it was best to order something from their strong suit. First time in the place so I ordered the staples of any great southern meal; BBQ chicken, Macaroni & Cheese and Sweet Potatoes. After waiting the ten minutes to be served, I watched Soul Dude serve out my food and I thought to myself "C'mon Fam, $7.50 for a small and you skimping on the food?" " Oh, Okay. Throw my food into the container like a suspect against a police car, why don't you. Nice!" Yeah, so the food I ordered now looked even less appetizing as I stared down into the takeout container. The chicken had BBQ sauce slathered all over it so you can imagine my surprise when I didn't taste Barbecue Chicken. It was more like baked chicken posing as BBQ chicken... or baked chicken in a tasteless BBQ stew. I don't know, I'm still confused about it. The yams were watery & mediocre at best. The macaroni was blah, blah blah. Maybe I caught em on a bad nite?? The saving grace from a one star review is the banana pudding. The smooth, sweet banana flavor almost made me forget the meal I was just grumbling about. Just wished I would have two or three more vanilla wafers in the batch he served out, but it's cool. I'll probably be back for the pudding in the future; but I don't think I'll venture to try anything else on the menu. Sub-Par Soul Food. Shrug.

smothered pork chop with mac & yams FTW!

I am tickled pink about this place being in my general Brooklyn area. Due to my laziness I am even more in love with the fact that they deliver. A soul food spot that delivers?! Let the church say "Amen"! Even though its $4 flat anywhere in Brooklyn it's a deal if you don't live close and just too lazy to go like me. I think they stop delivering at like 8:30ish. I am giving this a 4/5 because even though I've ordered here a few times it's the same thing so I cannot speak for anything other than the smothered pork chops dinner with mac n cheese, yams and cornbread. The potato salad is also really good. The hush puppies I had once were a little well done but still fine. I'd say my only complaint is the cornbread. Not that great, not bad though. There's no flavor to it really just a crumbly cornmeal thingy in the way of my delicious smothered, fall off the bone pork chops. This place has an alter ego as a full on seafood spot too according to the menu so one day I will try out the seafood options as well. The last thing is the service gets a 5/5. The guy on the phone is so funny and really has great southern hospitality even though I don't know where he's from. The delivery guy is equally nice and really humble when he gets a tip so TIP HIM!

It's down home Southern and Carribbean cooking straight up no frills. It appears to be famiy run and the staff are super efficient and very kind. The smells and warmth are amazing the second you step foot inside from hectic Fulton Street. It's best to take out because the lines get deep and there is only one counter with very limited seating. You could eat there and I have, but it's not a sit down restaurant per se. They deal in high volume delicious that goes out the door. Have I mentioned they deliver ANYWHERE in Brooklyn for a four dollar charge and they are open 24 HOURS A DAY!!! I adore mixing and matching whatever my heart desires, but be careful it can get expensive. The jerk chicken will put hair on your chest ladies but it's so good. The mac and cheese is traditional and delicious. Curry shrimp is in my top five as well as their sweet candied yams which helps out the fiery spices. I also live for their fried chicken and caribbean Chicken Dumpling soup. I have yet to try their smothered turkey wings but it's on my to do list. They have lots and lots of veggie options too and an enormous dessert and beverage selection. Amen to the peach cobbler and Bananna pudding. This is the place that I literally fantasize about at 2am and have a hard time going to sleep if I don't get my hands on greens (collards), shrimp and chicken. Sad I know. Mini downside... Sometimes they are so popular there is a wait on Mac and Cheese (until next batch is ready) and earlier in the day soup is not avail. I always have cash in hand there and I'm pretty sure it's cash only. I'm going to have to find a way to try everything on the menu. I still can't explain why their menu has two sides... two names on menu and at store but one register.. It's called Soul Food Kitchen AND Seafood Heaven. I say, why question greatness. I would like to fall asleep inside their vat of creamy mashed potatoes now. Good Night.

Would have given four stars but the rice was a little dry even with sauce and it kind of tasted a bit over heated to the point where it becomes slightly crunchy and now as for the Mac and cheese it was rather quite tasty as was the BBQ chicken though the fried ones looked much more appealing also decided to try the meatloaf and I can honestly say that even though it tasted like meat that I would rather eat the ones at Boston market instead (flavor wise) it made me cough a bit as if dust had taken flight in my throat

Line is crazy but it's moving pretty fast

I wanted to try this place out because for months I pass by it on my way to work in the morning. I moved back to Brooklyn four years ago and thought it was just an empty store front. Today when I went in the line started at the cash register and ended at the door. While waiting I looked everywhere for a menu couldn't find one until I asked a girl who was sitting behind the counter where could I get a menu and she pointed to the refrigerator and on top of the refrigerator were the menus ... Far away from anyone's sight . The people were very welcoming in a southern kind of way I felt like I was talking to my aunts and uncles...lol. While inching up to place the order I began talking to this lady that told me that this was the original location and that they had to close it down due to a fire. The outside seating gives a refreshing look to the neighborhood and is inviting. The ribs were good tender the collard greens were excellent fresh and smokey flavored. The Mac and cheese was your typical no stretch Mac n cheese. Yams were sweet and delicious. The fish had no seasoning and a million bones. All n all I like the food and I can't wait to try more things from here.

The shrimps taste really bad, like they had some kind of disinfectant in it

This was some of the best fried fish I've had, if we're talking about just the fish itself. The breading is solid - going with a hot level of spice meant there was a good amount of seasoning on top, but I wouldn't classify it as spicy. It was crunchy at points, but missing the flakiness and true crunch I'd associated with top-tier fried fish. However, where it makes up for this is how good the inside of the fish is. This was spectacular - crazy moist, super tender, and just tasted fantastic. The complete opposite of that rubbery texture you get when you overfry the fish. The sauce that came with the fish was a little bland, however As for the sides, I thought the mac and cheese was really good - cheesy, slightly crispy on top, and cooked very well. I also liked the grits - though a bit buttery. The fries were a miss though. For the price, I think around 25 for the meal and a side is a solid deal. The sides especially come with pretty large portion size that will leave you very full. Overall, this is very good Southern food that I certainly enjoyed. 8.5/10

I liked the chicken but I personally wouldn't pay for it again. The best tasting part of the meal was the cornbread but you barely get any of it. The takeout takes quite a long while and it's pretty cramped inside the actual restaurant especially to wait, so I'd highly recommend ordering ahead of time online.

So..... we went and totally understand the hype. As soon as you walk in, you can smell the amazing dishes and you can literally feel the love they put on each plate as they serve the guests. I almost don't want to share this review for fear that the line may get longer but this restaurant is now one of the few that I recommend you go out of your way to try and enjoy. Their menu is classically simple but made with an abundance of care and no shortcuts in their cooking. As you are seated you are welcome to place your order in the front of the glass display, they cook everything in house and sometimes they run out of the specials so don't sleep on getting there on time. We ended up getting their lunch specials and picked one main and two sides. I know my girl loves Ox Tails and ended up getting the last plate with some candied yams and Mac and cheese. Let me tell you, we cleaned the plate and it was finger licking good!!! The jerk ribs were amazingly tender and fall off the bone. All of the sides were well portioned and absolutely flawless. Don't come here if you're on a diet there is only one way to enjoy this restaurant and it's to just dive in. FYI - you will need a nap after your meal. This place just hits your tastebuds differently; it doesn't just leave an impression, its mind shattering good. You will sing after the meal - happy dancing the whole time as you're eating.

I wanted to love it so much especially since TikTok critic/MMA fighter Keith Lee visited them in 2023, but my experience was not like his. I want to say that online reviews are almost about accurate. They were out of cold salads and collard greens which was an issue for other customers at times as well. No problem, they were super helpful and offered an alternative but not a good one. I had steamed vegetables that mashed in my mouth like mashed potatoes when I took a bite. I did end up going to another spot for collard greens and potato salad because you can't have soul-food without that. I had the rib dinner with mac n cheese and yams and a tiny piece of complimentary cornbread. The ribs definitely taste amazing but they don't take off the membrane in the back which is slimy and gross. I left that part behind. The yams were sweet and good BUT.....that mac n cheese is NOT soul-food Mac n cheese. Here's the thing I figured out, they use such little cheese but season the noodles very well that you don't truly notice unless you love mac n cheese, which I do, so I noticed it lacked so much cheese but had seasoned noodles. The rib dinner was a 3/5 because ribs were great but sides needed help. I had rice and peas as an additional side and fried wings. The wings were ATROCIOUS! I ate the smallest one and didn't eat the rest. How can you serve such huge feathered wings like that? It was a nightmare. The feathers being on it turned me off. This tells me they don't make their food with care, they move quick to be one and done and I want my food cooked with love and care. They were also frozen wings that were thawed and seasoned, I know the difference. The rice and peas were okay 3/5 as well. Overall the food was not worth the hype. Customer service was beautiful for sure but the food was not it.
