Sottovoce is one of those places where I wonder "Am I grown up enough to eat here?" It has a very serious and sophisticated atmosphere. Situated in the Recoleta neighborhood, it's known for its house-made pastas. And, ultimately, yes, I was grown up enough to eat there, although, since I'm not a wine drinker, I felt I was missing out on the total experience. The decor of the restaurant is very elegant with lots of wood. We dined on the second level and were treated to an excellent view of the diners below. Being as there weren't many non-alcoholic drink options I had water. This is one area of opportunity. I would've loved to have something like a fruity cocktail to complement my dish. As an appetizer, we had the Corn Polenta with Prawns. It was an interesting dish with tender prawns and a seafood broth poured over the polenta. Very good. For my entree, I had a very rich pasta dish called Tagliatelle with Creamy Spinach and Ham. This was a delicious dish- let me tell you, the standout was the ham which was very mild and not heavily salted. That dish was a 5/5! For dessert I chose the Panna Cotta, it was a little too sweet for my liking. We also passed on the complementary Limoncello at the end. Overall, I really enjoyed our visit to Sottovoce, the main dish was spectacular, but the other elements bookending the main were a little less than spectacular. I come about once a year to Argentina and always try to make time to come to this restaurant. I have to be honest and say I haven't tried most of the menu because i just love their pepardelli de fungi. Why try anything else when you found your true love (favorite plate). Unfortunately this time we were in a rush because they were going to pick us up to go to a Tango Show. A friend of mine came from the US to visit and had to do all the tourists things plus my children never saw a Tango show so kill two birds with one stone. My point this is that I didn't take any pictures. I've been coming here for years and it never fails. They receive you with a complimentary either champagne or Aperol spritz and after your meal a complimentary Limoncello or grapa. Food is delicious mainly known for their pasta and the ambiance is very classy. Service is great. We showed up without a reservation (slap of our wrist) but they found a way to get us a table so this story has a happy ending. Highly recommend to make a reservation. This last trip I was a bit disappointed with some of my usual spots that I go to and have reviewed on Yelp but this one did not fail so if in town and want pasta. I highly recommend this place. Came in for an early dinner / Late lunch. This restaurant and food is so amazing. I will be coming back tomorrow night for dinner. If I could give it more than five stars I would, they start with a complimentary glass of champagne along with the bread basket with toppings. Boy, what a mistake! I had been here several times in past trips to Buenos Aires. I actually remember once sitting next to Robert Duval when he was living in the city and having a nice conversation with him and his wife, so it was that kind of place. I decided to hit Sottovoce again, reassured by the fact that Michelin had included them in their list. Big mistake, I honestly do not know what Michelin standards are these days but tend to think in our countries they are highly commercial. Anyways, same old welcome with a glass of sparkling or Aperol and a big basket of breads. Opted for an app of scampi and cannelloni. The restaurant and the food are tired and it shows, everything was contrived. Scampi were ok but lacked anything to make them special. Cannelloni tasted less than fresh (as advertised) as if made long ago and just reheated. My glass of wine was also funky, here wine is so inexpensive they have no issue in opening a bottle for you and serving you the first glass. Not at Sottovoce. About 62% if Argentinians are of Italian descent. This is evident in the architecture and cuisine of Buenos Aires, the Italian food in this city is phenomenal and Sottovoce is a great example of this delicious fact. I would say the menu here is a bit pricey, but you're paying for the ambiance and service. The dishes are executed extremely well. Usually I find Italian food to be too heavy for me, but Sottovoce is able to create rich dishes without making them too oily. The beef here is cooked deliciously. The seafood is delicious as well. I especially liked the calamari and the prawns. Remember to order dessert! The tiramisu is amazing. read more

The restaurant felt like it was mostly Americans and the price fixe menu was not as interesting as what the restaurant would normally serve, which was a disappointment. I wasn't going to write a review. Then we went to a couple of restaurants with ok food and horrible service. I was to highlight the amazing service staff at Sottovoce. Which is the given? Should a good restaurant automatically have good food and then good service? Or the other way around? the Michelin stars...It's about the food right? We had superb service at Sottovoce. Our main server, this big guy with impeccable English. He probably got us the table since we didn't even a ressie and stumbled upon this gem. Then everyone that touched our table. Just superb. We enjoyed the food, the ambiance, the staff. When in BA, and you see a Chinese girl with a guy that looks Italian? Middle Eastern? Maybe the staff thinks Watchout! Can't speak the language. Ugh. I spoke my broken HS Spanish and my husband is way better. We are foodies. You respect us we respect you. No attitude at this Michelin. With the US$ conversion rate? this was a $ for us. Happily spent. Graciously spent. Should of cabbed over during our layover on the way home. One of my life's greatest regrets. read more

A colleague and I stopped by for lunch, and am I glad that we did! Here are a few things we noticed: - Great service...waiters didn't know much English, but that wasn't a problem--we got along anyway. And, they were very attentive. - The bread and pate and other little plates that they brought to the table were delicious. - We were provided with a complimentary glass of champagne mixed with some type of fruit juice...it was yummy. - We wanted wine by the glass, but all they had in terms of whites was Chardonnay...but they opened a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc for us and just poured two glasses. - We started with the Bresaola with Burrata Cheese appetizer, which was incredible--probably a highlight of the meal. - We then shared the Pappardelle pasta with Mushrooms and the Tenderloin. The pasta was excellent but the tenderloin was a little too well done for my taste, but still good. Bottom line: Wonderful place for lunch...now, how do I find a day that I could visit at dinner too? read more

On my last journey to BA I dined for dinner twice. The fiirst meal I ordered mostly Italian dishes and a Caesar salad off mmenu - that wasn't the best option as everything else was delightful from food, service to wine pairing. My second dinner I ordered a Ribeye medium rare - it arrived rather more than medium, my lack of speaking in Spanish might have caused confusion, but it and the potatoes were inedible. They were very sorRy about it, and I refused to allow them to deduct from my tab, but everything else was good. I think the waiter just didn't understand thAt or what starter I ordered. I recommend, but sTick to the menu and all the delicious Italian items, not a place to wander into other choices. read more

It's been six months since I've been to Sottovoce. I still dream of it. It was so good - we went twice in 4 days, once after we went to another restaurant that wasn't as good, so I returned to Sottovoce to eat as my last meal in Argentina. On our first visit, we had our hotel make us a reservation and table wasn't quite ready. They comped us a drink each and provided us with an amuse bouche. I had an aperol spritz which was light and refreshing. There was a small plate of appetizers that they provided us - I remember there being a little bit of ham and some eggplant - which then inspired me to order the pasta with tomato sauce and eggplant. We also ordered the squid ink pasta and a stuffed pasta, the rotolo. Each pasta was freshly made and double or triple the size in portions of something that I can get in SF. We also got the flan and tiramisu. You can probably skip the tiramisu. All of it was affordable and I can't recommend this place enough! read more

This restaurant is reminecent of Italy. The finishings and details are that of a restaurant in Rome and the flavors are all there. They brought us complementary champagne, bread and a spread that was like a liver paté. Absolutely sinful. I skimmed through the menu and right away set my heart on langostinos in polenta. It was creamy and oh so delicious. The polenta was cooked perfectly, and langostinos where fresh and sweet. Compared with everywhere else we have eaten in Buenos Aires, this upscale Italian restaurant was the best food we have had. There are two locations for Sottovoce and this one is in the fancy neighborhood of Recoleta, which is like the Beverly Hills of Buenos Aires. For dinner on a Friday we had a reservation, but still had to wait a few minutes for a table. This was not a problem because the hostess immediately brought us complimentary champagne and served us a small appetizer. There was plenty of people watching as much of the dining crowd were wealthy locals. We liked the restaurant so much we returned on a weekday with our local friend who said it is her favorite restaurant. Our service was on point, the bread delicious and the food superb. The menu has ample choices for appetizers, pasta, seafood and meat. Everything we ordered was lovely. The coffee was the best I had in three weeks of traveling in Chile and Argentina. read more

It's not often that you can go to an Italian restaurant and get on site made pastas and ice creams. Everything we had was flavorful and authentic. Best Italian food we've had outside of Italy. Small, nicely appointed place with outstanding service and a pleasant, relaxing ambience despite being busy. The carpaccio was melt in your mouth goodness. We had three different pastas and all were excellent. Top prize went to the veal pasta, Rotolo alla Bolognese - big enough for two. Amazing flavors. Best Italian food in Buenos Aires. The restaurant is delicious and so perfectly retro. The pasta is cooked deliciously al dente, simple flavors all classically combined, and made fresh to order. My husband and I dropped in for lunch today, on a Monday afternoon. We were warned that this is a popular place for business professionals and that's what we found. Regardless of the work crowd, we were looking forward to steak, fish and good wine. Everything we ordered was delicious! My husband said the filet mignon was "very tender and melts in your mouth". I had the spaghetti with shrimp which was tasty. The bonus - a free starter of 5 different types of bread and 3 fresh dips were a treat! The food was very good but the air conditioning system was deficient. It was a very hot night and we perspirated the whole time, not a pleasant experience at all. Maybe it was that hot cause we were at the second floor. We complained about it and they apologized saying that there was nothing to be done. It is pricey but has a good wine selection and italian food. It was packed, you need a reservation. La comida es muy buena pero nos morimos de calor. We ended up here after a disaster of an evening: we had a reservation at a place where the AC was broken (temp was 85 degrees), found another one in the neighborhood on Yelp where we were treated horribly (reviewed elsewhere) and then went to a third one, recommended by our hotel, in a different neighborhood which was closed for a private function! Our hotel then recommended Sottovoce and it was like coming in out of a storm. It had everything we required: working AC, friendly service and it was open. And the food was wonderful! We didn't order a lot (it's hard to maintain an appetite while wasting an hour trying find a place to eat) but what we had was terrific. They start you out with bread and complimentary bocconcini. We shared a glass of red wine, a green salad (not on the menu) and the rigatoni Sottovoce, made with olive oil, garlic, tomatoes and parmesan. They split the salad and pasta in the kitchen and in both cases the portions were so large that we had to ask if they were indeed half-portions. The salad was good enough and the pasta was delicious. And the staff was SOOO friendly! In the end we felt that in spite of the agita of the early evening we had ended up in the right spot after all. Highly recommend! read more

I found this place on yelp and saw they had a lot of good ratings so my wife and I decided to give a try, I ordered a fish dish & the waiter told me they were out, so I order another fish dish again he told me they were also out of it. I finally ordered a pasta dish with assortment of sea food but to my disappointment the dish only came with calamari and with no other sea food. My wife ordered a chicken dish and the waiter asked if she wanted dark meat or white meat, she stated she would like dark meat and to her disappointment she got the white meat. We also ordered an appetizer and it never came, we mentioned it to our waiter and he apologized and told us he forgot to put it in. We asked him to cancel it, but they brought it anyway, after our meals. The manager came over and apologized and said it was complimentary. What they should have done was offered us dessert, because by than we did not want it anymore. Please don't be fool by those good ratings.l read more
