They won an award for best new restaurant in 2014, and I'm afraid that the menu hasn't been updated since then. I do not want any foam products on my plate. The tuna tartare was excellent. Came here on a recommendation and Roux did not disappoint. French isn't my thing but I'd come back here in a second. Service was excellent with staff immediately dropping Gazpacho soup and hummus plate as part of the experience. We took our waiter's (Martin) suggestion and went with the Pumpkin Cridpy Tuil appetizer which was outstanding. For dinner, we had the Mantecato Risotto and the Lamb Ravioli which weee both excellent. Highly recommend a stop here, perhaps for a special occasion as it is a nice restaurant. read more

To celebrate a cousin's birthday I organized a dinner at the private room this restaurant offers. Alberto, the maitre'd, helped me organize the entire dinner with food and wine suggestions from beginning to end. All this was done via WhatsApp while I was still in the USA, with pictures, menus and descriptions offered by Alberto. There were eight of us. Everything served was amazing. We had an assigned server that stayed with us the entire time making sure everyone was comfortable and every need was met. Alberto checked in a few times to personally make sure we were all happy and satisfied with the food and service. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. One of the best in Buenos Aires! Thank you Alberto for a beautiful fabulous dinner and for making that evening one of the best we ever had. When we were done, servers and Alberto himself went outside to get taxis for everyone and stayed with us until we were all in one. I am including Alberto's picture. On our final evening in Buenos Aires, we hit the highly rated Roux. We needed to push our reservation twice and they were very accommodating on the day of. Upon arrival, our table wasn't quite ready so they brought us glasses of champagne and a little nosh while we waited outside. This was clearly the place to be. We were seated at a perfect table and the only notable observation was that the lights are set way too bright for 9pm. The beau and I ordered everything to share and they brought out each course separately portioned out for us. This caused us some confusion as the portions looked normal size! They were being quite generous. We had the beet carpaccio salad, lamb ravioli, and prawns over butter risotto. The presentations were beautiful to look at and a delight to the taste. Rich flavors and delicate textures were the theme. We enjoyed our experience very much and had to take the leftovers after eating way too much. Unfortunately we just couldn't find the room for dessert which is really unacceptable for the beau and I. Roux is a lovely restaurant with a professional staff. Highly recommended. read more

The menu seemed a fusion of Spanish and Argentinian cuisines. I really wanted to love it but I found myself just liking the two appetizers I ordered, a beet carpaccio and the perfect egg. Presentation on both items was 10-out-10, the ingredients super fresh but the flavor profiles didn't go all the way. They were good but not exceptional. What an amazing experience! Wonderful, helpful staff with excellent food. Very interesting menu with lots of seafood and meat options. The oysters are shucked PERFECTLY, which means a lot in itself! Apparently artichoke is in season here right now so I got the tempura artichoke hearts that came with an egg cooked at exactly 65°, with some crispy cheese, cherry tomatoes and a sauce they drizzle on top at the table. The gave us some small tastes when we got there including a cold soup and foie gras. You'll also get assorted warm breads with butter on a salt slab, yum. And they keep the bread coming just in case you want more of any kind. My mom got scallops and dad got the suckling pig, we all left full and happy. It's places like this that you can tell the chef has a lot of fun with various combinations and presentations of fresh, seasonal ingredients. read more

I found this place by chance. Chance was because an angel was sent by the gastronomy gods to bless me. I am an ugly American:I know very little Spanish and I want WiFi. This place has English speaking waiters and I am writing this review on that aforementioned WiFi. You get a free liver and cold tomato soup. They go by fancy names like foie gras and gazpacho. The wine list is reasonbly extensive and the food is beautiful. I ate here two days in a row. There is only one vegan option on the menu but that is more than most places in BA. read more

In Buenos Aires on business just for a few days. Finally able to travel here from USA, as the vaccination rate is up and the infection rate way down. Clear COVID tests three days before departing USA and one day before commencing the trip home. Kind of stumbled on to ROUX in the Recoleta. Glad I did. The ambience reminded me of a well-appointed, upscale Parisian bistro. There was an expansive outdoor dining area. While there were not a ton of wines by the glass, I did enjoy one glass of the house Cabernet Franc during my meal. And, about that meal. . . . Wow. Started with a large salad. Not your typical Argentine salad (e.g., lechuga, tomates, queso, etc.), mine was the green salad with palm hearts and Gouda cheese, arugula, and assorted items. Colorful presentation. For my main course, I enjoyed el lomo de pescado. A thick tenderloin of bass, with cauliflower puree, spinach gnocchi (wrapped in a piquant pesto) and squid. Delicious!! The food and experience here definitely live up to the hype. We came here for lunch after trekking through the region and enjoyed every moment. The space is nice and clean, staff is friendly and attentive (but not overly), wine recommendation was excellent, amuse bouche and housemade bread was so good, desserts were gorgeously plated (the volcano with creme leche !!) and had great flavors, and the main courses for food was overall really good. The cod and halibut seafood was all perfectly cooked, octopus risotto had a nice light foam - packed with flavor without being too heavy and my king crab ravioli - eh, that was just ok but the excellence of everything else served to overshadow it. The food was visually stunning but the taste varied from awful (the pate and the use of mayonnaise to decorate dishes) to wonderful (the venison meatballs. OK. I'm not easily impressed by fancy restaurants. Larry has been to many of the finest eateries on the planet and he knows which fork to use. So, I never expected to be wowed by a restaurant in Buenos Aires, but guess what...surprises are why we travel and Roux delivered. Evidently, the place is very hard to get into, but the concierge at the Alvear Palace managed a small miracle and for us a spot for early dining. After speaking to a number of hotel patrons here, evidently the Concierge went out and married the daughter of the owner just so we could get a back door to the restaurant through the family. So the place was gorgeous inside and somehow, we were seated in the wine cellar which has only three tables. This was pretty special as Larry observed a Veuve Cliquot Grand Dame Rose, a Chateau Yquem and a bottle of Opus One. Now how the heck did they get an Opus in Argentina? Anyway, you get the drift. Amazing wine list. The service began with an amuse bouche which was absolutely delicious. The menu was not large but it was evident that very careful attention was paid to the selection of the dishes. Mrs. Larry selected the steak and Larry had the crispy sweetbreads (OK, I can hear you going "ewww". You should get past that and try them. They are delicious). The steak was amazing. Larry don't eat much steak but this one became my best in class, usurping the Wagu at Nobu. My meal was beautifully presented and over the top delicious. Wonderful food, we both shared iberico ham, then my friend had the lamb ravioli and I had the quail followed by a cheese platter. The food and service were excellent. This is truly as good as it gets - the service, the ambience and of course the food! This is a very small place and you definitely need a reservation. Do not be put off by sitting very, very close to other people. They have made the most of the space and do the best to maximize the capacity. We went there because they are known for their fish so we stuck to four course of fish. That being said we saw plenty of people eating steak and other entrees. We had two amuse bouche - a shot of amazing gazpacho and a bit of chicken liver pate. you also get a little basket of an assortment of hours made breads. All delicious and accompanied by sweet butter. Our server was excellent in answering our questions and steering us in the right direction with our choices. We shared four courses and we were stuffed! We started with a seafood salad with cous cous. One of the fishes in that dish was house made trout gravlax - wow! Our second course was an octopus "steak". Personally i was a little put off by the name but it was amazing. So tender and accompanied by some gnocchi and baby vegetables. Then my husband insisted on a pasta dish so we opted for the pumpkin stuffed ravioli - each was topped by a perfectly grilled shrimp. The ravioli were so light and flavorful. Finally we had the special house fish (I'm sorry i don't remember the name of the fish - it's local and like a bronzino in taste and texture. Amazing. It was paired on the plate with black olive gnocchi and vegetables. We just couldn't squeeze in dessert, but the lovely couple sitting next to us had the fig and ice cream dish and it looked superb. Our server took the time talking to us to suggest the right wine pairing for our meal. We opted for a sauvignon blanc. All the wines on the list are from Argentina. We are used to NYC prices so we thought this meal was actually very reasonable at about $60 per person - I think the locals find it very expensive. Came here for a quiet lunch on my own, and it was by far the most lovely treat. I loved the small intimate space of restaurant. It felt like a small bistro but it exceeeded any type of bistro food I ever had. This was by far my best meal in BA when you look at value and quality. For under $30 USD, I was able to get the best risotto of my life. It had octopus and had the perfect use of foam. The plate came out piping hot just the way I love it. The portions were generous that I felt full for hours afterwards, and they even gave me complimentary appetizers. The service was wonderful and there is wifi if you need it (password printed on last page of menu). Get the risotto, it is simply the best. I would come here everyday if I could! read more

A masterchef experience Roux is a hidden gem in Buenos Aires. It's not by chance the chef was the winner of a French price already, amongst loads of other prizes. Once working at one of the top restaurants of Buenos Aires, he did the humanity a favour deciding to open his own one. Roux means red apparently, I thought it was supposed to be Rouge, maybe it's a synonym, I'm not expert in French. The only reference inside the small and cozy restaurant, with a very polite and helpful staff, is a modern red painting at the biggest wall of the main (single) room. Service starts with a courtesy, it was a very tasty crab soap and the convert is absolutely delicious. I'm not crazy about bread, but all of them were so tasty and warm, made by the chef himself. You can actually see him working from any table at the restaurant. Main course can be defined as a work of art, either a lagostins with spinach risotto or a pumpkin ravioli and Santa Cruz lagostins. The presentation already gives a lovely taste in your mouth. The plates are colorful, taste is compatible with any high end restaurant I've been around the world. Terminating the experience, crunchy golden Apple pancakes with Dulce de Leche coulis and vanilla ice cream. Absolutely delicious. If course, also with a spectacular look. The pavlova with passion fruit mouse and corinto home made (of course) one cream is also fantastic. read more

Had a very remarkable meal here. Staff was very welcoming/accommodating to a walk up non-Spanish speaking single diner and made a table available despite not having a reservation. Restaurant is located outside of the main "tourist" area and appears to be quite popular with the affluent locals as it was bustling with diners coming and going. My meal started off with an amuse bouche which was a shot of what seemed like some sort of gazpacho served with what tasted like a heavenly foie gras. For appetizer I had the country egg which was a thing of beauty. It came served in an enclosed vessel filled with the smoke infused aromas of the dish which was then revealed when plated. Don't miss it when the lid opens to take in all the aromas, it was as if you are in the kitchen preparing it with the chef. For my main course I had the duck which was prepared perfectly. Beautiful cook on the outside had the skin perfectly crunchy with just the right amount of salt while the meat was soft juicy rare and full of flavor. The accompanying vegetables were also cooked perfectly, soft while retaining amazing flavor and just a hint of salt. The squash/pumpkin purée was a very tasty accompaniment. The crispy corn canolli that came with it was the only thing I did not finish, I didn't quite understand that one. For dessert I had the most amazing dulce de leche ... perhaps it's just that I've never had a dulce de leche or perhaps it's just that dang good but I thought it was an out of this world finish to what was a perfect meal. The wait staff were super attentive and hard working, however seemingly spread a bit thin at times. For an appetizer, main, dessert and 2 glasses of wine I spent $100USD. A brightly lit restaurant in Recoleta, Roux embodies class and elegance. It has an extensive (and heavy) menu that highlights unique Argentine flavors as well as local meat, seafood and produce. The ceviche with crunchy corn (split nicely for two!) was fresh and bright (a la Javier Wong), and fennel was silky smooth.
