Came here for lunch on a Monday afternoon. We didn't have a reservation, they had a good crowd, and we were still promptly seated. Good crowd but not overly loud. This was my first time here but my mom has dined here before when she visited. Our server was a nice gentleman and older. Most of the staff was older and I liked that because I don't see that often when I dine out. Complimentary bread was provided. I did a house red and the server gave me a generous pour; it was deliciously smooth. My mom ordered grilled chicken (it was a huge portion) and a side salad (also pretty large portion). I ordered beef and chicken empanadas. I preferred the beef over the chicken but both were really tasty. The pastry was nice a flaky and the filling inside moist and flavorful. Tried on a recommendation from the hotel concierge and it was okay. We were early and had no problem getting a table. We typed out what we wanted on a translator app and we got what we ordered. The complementary bread was very hard and I supposed that could be the style but it wasn't good. We had the olives as the appetizer, which were wonderful. The empanadas were good and the chimichurri that came with it was on point. We split one mixed meat skewer and the meat chunks were huge. More food than we could possible eat. We have come here both times while in Buenos Aires and it is good. The servers are all nice and the food is great but my gripe is that it's way more expensive compared to other restaurants in the area and I didn't think the quality made it worth it! The place was really nice, good homey feel to it, we were greeted instantly and seated pretty fast, we didn't make reservations but it was a Wednesday so it wasn't packed, I went with a party of 8 including myself. They had a pretty good variety of food, mostly meat of course. The prices were reasonable and the service was really good, our waiter poured our drinks for us and kept checking on us. The food was tasty. I had the breaded steak it was pretty good, didn't come with anything so I ordered a mixed salad on the side and it was nice and fresh. We also had the spinach, and the eggplant which was like in vinegar, but very tasty! My breaded steak was big enough to share or to take something home. I don't drink but they do have a large variety of wines to choose from, they have water and Pepsi products as well. At the end of the night, they offered a shot of a liquor for free to digest your meal. For dessert, we ordered 3 flans to share and they were delish, very creamy and we asked them with Argentina's famous Dulce de leche( which is like a thick caramel) , the portion was regular size like anywhere else but we were so full that it was perfect for us! My husband and I were just walking by El Establo and said "hmmm"...this might just be a good place to have a nice meal. Well, we both cleaned our plates. Nice service, great prices, nice portions, nice pours, and well cooked. My husband said it was the best steak he has had in a long time (and we're from Las Vegas). Great cut of beef and cook to how he likes. Not high-end snobby place, very casual and relaxing. What can be said, go! Just go. We were seated immediately. As you enter the building you walk past the grill and get the chance to see how the meat is cooked. Nice selection of wine. The waiter was kind and helpful, as we struggled with our Spanish. We ordered the beef eye, beef de lomo, spinach with garlic, and mashed pumpkin. The portions were more than adequate for two hungry people. The beef was cooked to perfection, tender and rare. Ok I love garlic. I was staying a couple of blocks away at the Lancaster Hotel. The restaurant was nearby and had good reviews on Yelp and the front desk recommended it as well. Sat near a gentleman from Costa Rica who has been coming to BA for over 20 years and already eats here while in town. I was very disappointed in this first steakhouse that we went to in Argentina located in the Four Seasons Hotel. They listed both flank steak and marinated skirt steak. I asked why the best of those two steaks would need to be marinated since it is more tender than the flank steak. The waitress didn't know the answer, so I asked if the ribeye included the cap or just the eye and she said just the eye. Based upon this, I ordered what was supposed to be skirt steak. When the meals came out, everyone in our party who ordered ribeyes were beautiful thick steaks with a nice cap. My "skirt steak" turned out to be a flatiron steak! I tried to cut the steak against the grain and the knife would not pass even through the crust. I asked the server for a sharper knife and he told me that I don't know what I am doing, that I needed cut WITH the grain. At this point I asked to speak with the manager. She came over to the table and I demonstrated to her that the knife was as dull as a butter knife. She came over with a box of knives that were all the same. She claimed that they were all sharpened fresh each day, so I pointed out to her that the restaurant is nearly empty and there's no way those knives were sharpened the day before and that there was no evidence by looking at them that they had ever seen a sharpening since manufacture. We also had to beg for an extra serving of chimichurri - they were served in a tiny half-ounce container - one container for the five of us. We have since been to other steakhouses and they have been adequate, although nothing to have travelled this far for. I have learned to only order the ribeyes wherever I go. The other restaurants also serve plenty of chimichurri (more important for the others in my party than me.) Other than that, I am having rotten time in Bueno's Aires. read more

I was extremely pleased with our choice. The restaurant was full as we entered, and we were seated within 5 minutes of arriving. Our waiter took the drink orders and gave us a few recommendations. We ordered the salad and bread as appetizers and then chose the ribeye and the flank (bruchetta de lomo) for the main entrees. There were so many options available for the type of steak. The salad was fresh cut up, served with bread and butter. The steaks were delicious. They were bursting with flavor, easy to chew and perfectly marinated. That is one of the best steaks I have had and it was humongous. I did order French fries to accompany the steak. Our service was up to standards. I have eaten here at least once on each trip over the last 16 years. I find its consistently good! If your going to Buenos Aires by all means go for beef, and Im happy here every time. Yes it is in the touristy area 1 block from Ave Florida but its still a very traditional restaurant. It can fill for lunch and dinner so going a bit early helps secure a table without wait. I would say though that if you're English speaking, you probably won't get asked how you want it cooked, so you better like it medium rare. Service was slow. You have only one waiter covering the whole restaurant. They could use another, but I suppose they have to maintain costs, so they can't do that. I would have given this place 5 stars if it weren't for the slow service. I can't tell yet if it's part of the culture here. I went to a cafe that didn't look too busy, and it took them forever to bring out my coffee. I'll have to go to a few others and see how the service is like. read more

I marked a 5 because the Bife de Loma (filet mignon?) was awesome. My wife and I went two nights in a row. I wanted to give a lower grade, but i didn't.... Because I love asparagus with a steak back in the USA, so when the asparagus came super soggy and cold, I was so bummed. This is a traditional restaurant which is very popular with Buenos Aires locals: that's always a good sign. The portions are large which means you should consider ordering half portions or share. El Stablo: steakhouse that came highly recommended by some very experienced reviewers on yelp. It appears yelp is fairly new in this area however I find it easier to use and more accurate than TripAdvisor. One comment was that it was better than Don Julio's. Now I haven't been to Don Julio's. It's supposed to be the best. The atmosphere was quite nice with a big wooden carved bar with a few tables packed in around it with big picturesque windows with curtains covering the bottom half. Waiters were all dressed nice and almost in a cliche way of a steak restaurant of this sort. I got a little excited as I sat down at one of the only tables left open. I ordered a nice wine and took the waiters recommendation on the appetizer, salad, and steak. The appetizer was beef tongue in vinaigrette with chopped pickled veggies. It was quite tasty and came in a large portion. I had ordered the smaller salad with fresh palm hearts. It also was really good and I think the freshest palm hearts I can remember ever tasting. I didn't get 1/4 through my salad when the steak was brought out. I really don't care for nice restaurants that either are oblivious to when to put in the main course or are trying to rush you out the door. However, it didn't seem like they were trying to rush me. So, I put my salad aside and dug into the steak. It was tasty, tender and cooked just how I ordered it. However, he flavor was average at best. I had stayed in for dinner the night before at the hostel. One of the owners came and did an Argentinian BBQ for us for 300 pesos. It was a 5 course meal with 4 of them being meat. That dinner blew this one out of the water and needless to say it was a bit more expensive almost 6 times more expensive. There was a lot on the menu I didn't try and the place was packed on a Tuesday night for a reason my experience was just average though. Decided to have one more steak before leaving Argentina. Talked with some locals at a bar earlier in the evening and they said I had to go here. I do not regret this. I got the best steak I have had in my life here. Without competition. I had salad with Bife de Lomo (i think it is called) - absolutely fantastic. I am drooling just thinking about it.
