This is the exact definition of a tourist trap. While there is so much hype about this place and the decor is really cool, the moment we set foot in this place, it was an off-putting experience. We came here so my husband could try the steak so tender, it's ceremoniously cut with a spoon. I'm not a big time meat eater, so I had the provolneta (too salty and charred) and some pasta with tomato sauce. The food was okay, but the prices were ridiculous. We skipped desert, partly because the prices on the deserts were more than some of the entrees. A big red flag. One of the things we did not appreciate was this awkward moment when it seemed like they were trying to give us alcohol we didn't order. Neither my husband or I drinks, so we had to explain that we didn't want it. The spaghetti I ordered was bare bones pasta with tomato sauce. I was really expecting a more elevated dish for the prices we paid. My husband said his steak was good, but definitely not worth the hype this place has. While the soccer memorabilia was fun to look at, the weirdness of the meal and this constant feeling that we were going to be charged for things we didn't want or the surreptitious way the desert was more expensive than some entrees really kept us on our guard. I would steer clear of this place. We had many enjoyable and wonderful dining experiences in BA and this one was a total outlier. Not worth the stress for sure. read more

As featured on the chef's table I came with high expectations, I made the reservation months before coming to Argentina. Messed up on the time zone and was 2 hours late to our reservation and they still seated us. Took pictures of the menu as they were no where to be found, surprised for a place being around as long as this they would have a web site or someone would have taken photos of the menu. Ordered their best 3 steak entries and all 3 had gristle galore, so much that I had to take a picture of our plate from the meat that we couldn't even chew. This was the 2nd steakhouse in Buenos Aires we went to and were so disappointed. Steaks in the US pale in comparison as my whole life I heard how awesome the quality and flavor of the steaks were. Sizzler and Texas roadhouse put these places to shame. Let's not include Flemings, Ruth Chris, Morton's, StripSteak, Peter Luger, or The Capital Grille to name a few pretty awesome steakhouses. Service was fine, food came out slowly, they didn't cook our one steak's properly and brought it out blood rare which is a 'no-no' in any steakhouse to not cook them perfectly per the guest's liking. The atmosphere is maximalism at its finest. Adorned in futbol memorabilia and other Argentine related items from head to toe. The bread service is pretty good. Soft, dense, and the olive oil on the table enhances. The lamb tongues are served cold with a heavy relish of chimmichurri. Reminds me of spam with a recognizable lamb taste that wasn't over the top. Not the most accessible dish, but I enjoyed it. I got a variety of sausages. The salchicha was my favorite! It tastes like a cheese with how it was cured. The chorizo de jaboda(?) was pretty good! Not as wild and gamey as I thought I would be for wild boar, but it was still super juicy and savory. The morcilla was good, but I had to save room for the steak, so I didnt eat as much. What I will say is the morcilla has a pronounced offal taste but not to the point that it's overwhelming. For the steak, I got the tapa de ojo (top of the ribeye). They show off how tender it is by cutting it with a spoon. It was tender, but it also has some chew to it. There's also no sear, so you don't get much of a crust. Especially with the blue dollar rate, it's a good deal for what you get. Just realize its not going to be like a steak from America. The empanada breading is fantastic, while the actual meat lacks any sort of flavor. For someone who only focuses on texture, then this may be a great choice for you. What an amazing experience. The service was fabulous. Ambience is casual and futbol memorabilia fills the rooms. But don't let that distract you from what you came for..... steak! Located in a quaint area of San Telmo surrounded by restaurants,, cafes and the San Telmo Mercado, the steaks are delicious, and the server really cuts your steak with a spoon! Friendly service, though English is not readily spoken. If you're a sports fan, you'll enjoy all the futbol jerseys hung on the walls next to photos of all types of sports. I came in here with several of my colleagues while on a business trip. They had been here several times before and highly recommended it. I can now see why. We made reservations beforehand and were quickly seated upon arrival. Our server spoke enough English to help us and the menu was also written in English. The restaurant is located in a very vibrant area with many restaurants and bars. Definitely a fun place to go out. By local standards this is a more expensive restaurant but we all felt it was worth every penny. There were eight of us and we all ordered some type of steak. We started off with an appetizer of the Provençale Cheese appetizer. It is baked provolone and was incredible. After that I had a caprese salad and the tomatoes were ripe and perfect. They also brought out amazing bread and breadsticks with a dipping sauce that were also delicious. After the salads our steaks arrived. They brought them all out on a platter and then used a spoon to cut into each steak to ensure that the doneness was perfect and to show you how amazingly tender the steak is. Between all of us we ordered the garlic french fries, scalloped potatoes, and fresh spinach. Of these, the french fries were my absolute favorite and I could have made a meal out of them. The filet steak was massive and after eating everything else we had had I ended up taking 2/3 back to my hotel with me. After dinner a caramel crêpe type dessert was ordered and it too was phenomenal. I would absolutely recommend coming here. Great find on our latest trip to Buenos Aires. Eclectic decor of soccer memorabilia, and old world chandelier and molding. Offer a wide range of wines in different prices in a higher end, so you can easily get a bottle that will be more than your meal. LOL which happened to me, when I said I wanted a small bottle of malbec. Don't get me wrong the Rutini Malbec they brought was great with my meal it was just sticker shock when we got the bill for the half bottle, was more than my steak. Now the steak on the other hand that we got, was so good and tender that they used a fork to split the steak between us. The restaurant is located in the charming area of San Telmo. It is decorated with soccer memorabilia as the owners are big fans and lots of chandeliers. Now for the most important part...the meat. Oh my cow! It was cooked to perfection, so tender and the flavors were delicious. You don't even need to add any of the chimichurri sauce as the meat stands on its own with the flavors. We also ordered some fries with lots of fresh garlic and parsley. Perhaps the best French fries I have ever had! Order them! We waited in line here for a ridiculously long line on a sunny Sunday afternoon. What should have been an off-hour was made irrelevant because of the adjacent street market which stretches for blocks right outside this place. Oh well, lesson learned. I had a nice lunch here. I've ate steak all over the world prepared in all different styles - Japan's famed wagyu A-5, 18 day dry aged Kansas City rib eye, 30 day dry aged prime, 15-day dry aged prime, etc. So, how does this steak stack up? I'm not going to tell you just yet. First off, I had the classic New York cut which is called bife de chorizo. If you can't eat a full portion, you can ask them for half. And you can't eat a full. These bad boys are cut thicckkk. They grill it in the classic style. Definitely some nice textures from that. The meat is hearty and you'll have to chew but not because it's tough junk quality; it's because these cows actually got a chance to use their muscles out on the field. The steak had a detectable beefiness that you don't get from grocery store bought steak. Keep in mind this is just straight up grilled steak - they add just a light touch of salt but the rest of the flavor is that beef. You don't get that undercurrent of beef flavor from grocery steaks that's for sure. So, I'm tired of typing. The steak was good. Not mind blowing. But good. The service was good. The sides and appetizers and veggies and wine were also good. The price was $120 USD with tip. If money is not a factor for you then come so you can enjoy. read more

Went here for dinner last night after seeing reviews. Went at opening with no reservation and had no issues getting a table for 1, only 2 other couples there at opening. More people came in as I was eating so if you have a party greater than 2, you should probably book a reservation which seems only to be taken by phone. Ordered the Special Steak which I understand to be a larger cut of the Bife de Chorizo (which googling seems to be a sirloin) and does not come with any accompaniment. Also ordered mashed potatoes and a beef empanada. Server did the make two partial cuts by spoon thing which really seems like a gimmick as people who really know steak that A4 or A5 Wagyu are really like butter. The steak knives they give you (I tried two after complaining first was too dull) make it really hard to cut the meat. The steak was well prepared on a grill: a really good rare in the middle, charred on the outside. I personally would have liked some salt and pepper to dredge on the side as the meat wasn't particularly seasoned with much of anything and didn't come with any sauce. Personally I found this to be a decent mid tier restaurant steak, not as good as getting even an non-aged USDA Prime steak at home and doing a sous vide reverse sear at half the price. Mashed potatoes were good and the beef empanada was excellent with moist meat chunks (coarse if ground) inside. Large parties seem to order everything family style which may be more fun. This was my first steakhouse in Buenos Aires so I don't have a point of comparison but definitely not up to European standards of a fine steakhouse though half the price in USD. AKA not destination meal, but not bad if you just have to eat. A meal of just empanadas here would be pretty good and a lot cheaper. There was an extra charge for bread (I assume that was what the extra 40 ARS was on my bill) and they insisted on serving bottle water. I did have a bite of the homemade bread they brought out after the initial bread basket packaged bread stick selection which I also assume they charge for. I think the break is pretty awful like much break I have had in Argentina, salty and very dry. They expect a tip that cannot be charged to a credit card, so bring some cash. read more

My friend and I had our first formal meal in argentina here. We asked the servants to recommend steak for us and listened to his advice. The salad was a little bitter but still I think it's necessary when having steak. The bread was also tasty, but the most impressive were the fries and steak. This whole dining experience was amazing. Granted it was my first steakhouse in Buenos Aires but I am more than happy with it. Every nook of the walls and even ceiling is covered in soccer memorabilia, although I didn't see tv's upstairs if you're trying to come here to watch any games. Started with the grilled provolone cheese, the proveleta, and it was a huge portion meant to share. Followed by the lomo steak, which my waiter really did cut with his spoon to show me the temperature with no problems. And it melted in my mouth. There's no marinade on the steak, no frills, just pure freshness that it doesn't need the sauces to give it flavor. Finished off with the dulce de leche pancake, which came out looking like a crepe. It's rated 3/4 for price, but if you're from the USA, this is by far an amazing deal and dining experience and a fraction of what you would pay for the same quality and night there. We ordered the Bife de Chorizo (beef) and chorizo and morcilla (pork sausage), ensalada mixta, grilled provolone, and pesto pasta. The grilled provolone was really tasty. At first we were worried because it's such a thick piece of cheese, but it was great. We are glad that we tried it and you could taste the parsley on the cheese which mixed well with the char of the grill. The chorizo and morcilla were well seasoned and grilled. The seasoning was great on the morcilla to masked the blood taste. The bife de chorizo was a good choice to supplement the pork sausage. Cook medium rare where it was still tender. They do have chimichurri sauce, and you have to ask for it. Chimichurri sauce was better at Parrilla Peña, as it was more garlicky. read more

This was one of those great places where the street outside was so quiet - yet inside was a perfectly crowded restaurant (a great sign!!) on a Saturday afternoon. Despite how busy it was - our party of 6 was seated almost immediately in the "sun room" on the main level. Service was a bit slow but the wine selection was great. To start off, this is the only steakhouse we have come across that doesn't sell wine by glass. When we ordered food we explicitly said one glass of Malbec and made sure that the waiter acknowledged the order. Then a few minutes later they came back with a small bottle of Syrah, and tried to open it right away. We reminded them that we ordered only a glass of Malbec. Then they told us that they don't have Malbec by glass. Either we take the small bottle of Syrah or a full bottle of Malbec. If you come here as only two people, this is the choice you will end up with. Then comes the food part. We ordered a sirloin steak and a special short rib cut. The server was all happy when we ordered them. When the food came, it was obviously too much food. The short rib was at least 2 pounds (600 ARS as well), and the sirloin was way more than 1 pound too. There is no way that this is for only two people, however the server said nothing when we ordered. The same happened to the table next to us too that they ended up with two big cuts untouched. And that table even asked the waiter to recommend portions when they ordered. Obviously they recommended based on how much money they make and not how much food their customers can eat. The only saving grace was that the food was good. Steaks were nicely cooked. Salad was simple but tasty. However the service was so rude that we wouldn't be back again. read more

Great, fancy spot with amazing food... most of the time. My first experience here was quite impressive. La Brigada is famous for their steaks so tender that they are cut with a spoon, and that's exactly what they did for me when a had an indulgent dinner here several months ago. Everything was perfect, including the salad, the wine, and the creme brûlée. It struck me as being a bit of a tourist trap, with the over-the-top decor and the disproportionate number of English-speaking customers, but it was worth it. A solid five stars. However, my second experience a few months later all but shattered that impression. As a disclaimer, I have a suspicion that I arrived as they were closing, as the other customers were clearing out (it was midnight). But the way that the waiters rushed me did not strike me as exactly friendly. And when the steak arrived, alas, it was some of the toughest steak I've eaten in this city. I walked down the Estado Unidos street and there are a lot Parrilla place. I looked a few menus of the places along the street. I chose La Brigada because I heard about it from a friend. However, the Price is kind on the high end of the parrilla compared to other places around but cheaper than the area by puerto madero. My dish cost me 170 pesos, which is expensive which around area on the average was 135 pesos. Food: I started with vithel orno and my entree was the bife de chorizo. The appetizer was amazing done. The steak was cooked medium rare and seasoned well. It was over 250g. Too much food for me. 4/5 Service: I would have to say that this place had one of the better staff servicing in Buenos Aires that I have been to. they were very courteous and helpful. They chekc on you and making sure that you are satisfy. They were professional 4/5 Atmosphere: This place seems like it is a small cozy place. If you're in Argentina for just one evening, I'd say that this place is it. Show up early and check the opening times -- La Brigada seems pretty consistent on opening right on time, as opposed to some other Argentinian establishments. There will be a long line at the door. If you're a football fan, there are plenty of memorabilia in the decor. Order steak and wine. Any cut is delicious. The table-side service and quality of food holds up to any modernist cuisine and has a satisfying old-world charm. I look forward to visiting again! read more
