As part of our tour, we had our farewell dinner here. Drinks were plentiful, and we were given a choice from a prix fixe menu. We started with bread, followed by appetizers. The empanadas were pretty good, but the spinach ball had a sponge-like texture, and I wasn't sure about the sausage, so I skipped it. For my entrée, I ordered the steak medium, but it was still a bit chewy. My husband chose a pasta dish, which ended up being the highlight of the meal. This is a nice Italian restaurant in the Recoleta area of Buenos Aires. It has a very family friendly ambience, and the dishes were delicious. Also, the service was pretty good, if not excellent. The one thing to know is the portions are huge, and really should be shared among 2 or 3 people. read more

This was my third time to Piegari and every single time it has been excellent. The first time was a business dinner with a bunch of colleagues and a partner. It was so good, I brought my wife the next time. The food is beyond excellent! The fresh made raviolis were absolutely perfect. The breads, calamari and caprese salad were all fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection (of course, the salad wasn't cooked.) The atmosphere is very nice, with quiet music. It is definitely appropriate for a business dinner or a casual night out with your significant other. When we were the business group in the restaurant, I hope we weren't too loud if someone was trying to have a romantic dinner. It is very well lit, so I wouldn't go there for a romantic dinner. Every time I have been there we have had a different waiter, but all of them provided great service and I love their recommendations. Piegari has been around since 1994, and the fact that it's still popular among locals is a testament to the quality of food and service they provide. I've been coming here since I was a little girl - about 25 years ago. Not much has changed, Piegari is still serving old school Italian food (with a hint of Argentina on its menu). The restaurant has been kept well and clean; it doesn't feel old despite its history. Many of the servers have been working in this establishment for decades. They are veteran servers who can give great recommendations and run Piegari smoothly. For me, it's the little things about this place such as the attentive service, the really comfy dining chairs with armrests, the perfectly white and clean tablecloths, the hot plates (because pasta tastes better on a hot plate as opposed to a normally cold one) and the massive dining room with ample seating. I've tried almost everything on the menu and I do think that there can be hits and misses. I try to avoid their fried foods, such as the calamari, since I find their technique to be a bit too oily. I recommend one of their fresh homemade pasta and the Milanese (even though it is fried). Their red marinara sauce is one of the best I've ever had (and I just did a tour of Italy a few months ago!) Piegari cooks their pasta very al dente, which is the "correct" way to eat Italian pasta. If that is a bit too hard for your tastes, I do not recommend asking for the pasta more "well done" because we did that one time and it came out way overcooked. Just enjoy the al dente! read more

A charming Italian restaurant with some Argentine influence. Great service, solid food, and a nice ambiance. I really enjoyed a lot of the food, but their specialty here is the pasta and particularly their ravioli and their fettuccine. See each dish I tried below: 4/5 - Burrata & Tomato Salad: a light and refreshing appetizer, the Burrata seemed very fresh 5/5 - Mushroom & Burrata pasta: very flavorful and delicious, the sauce and pasta were exactly what I expected. Made in a traditional Italian style and tastes just as good too! 3/5 - Various drinks, the selection was okay, but the drinks are a little hit or miss. If you order the Capri, you can get it with tonic or orange juice, but it is very sour with tonic so you have to keep that in mind. read more

20 of us on a trip were herded into this restaurant, it was chaotic service and some of the meat was not properly cooked, still being pink on the inside, some of us didn't feel comfortable eating them so the were left on the plate. Unfortunately, my partner ate her sausages thinking that this seemed to be a quality restaurant and they should know what they are doing and pink must just be the way they are normally cooked! More on that later! Once some of us had finished our mains we were offered a sweet, we started to feel that we were being rushed. Then after we had finished our puddings were were rushed out of the restaurant, hardly stopping for breath, the restaurant was not that busy at the time. We weren't given the promised teas and coffees that were listed as part of the set menu, when asked why this was they claimed that they were not part of the deal, it was! That night, my partner fell really ill. She was suffering from severe food poisoning! She was up most of the night bent double over the toilet bowl and I had to rush out and find medication for her. Thankfully there was a pharmacist just around the corner from the hotel. She stayed in bed throughout most of the next day and missed a tour around the city. It also ruined her enjoyment of a Tango night and a lovely 3 course meal, she couldn't eat anything and indeed had to leave the show when the meals were being served as the smells, lovely as they were for the rest of us, made her feel nauseous. You would think that the previous night's restaurant, that touts itself as a specialist carne (meat) restaurant would know how to cook sausages and that, because it's minced pork, it needs to be cooked thoroughly all the way through and not left pink on the inside! It's taken 3 months for her to fact eating pork sausages again! I would NOT recommend you visit this restaurant, we felt like we were being treated like cattle, terrible service and they gave my partner terrible food poisoning! read more

This is a tourist rip off joint. I actually caught them charging for silverware. They claimed it was a charge for bread that I didn't order but that's not what it said in the bill. Then there's the horrible food. I got a caprese salad drowned in so much pepper it makes you cough. You could find these flavorless tomatoes at a fast food place. My ham raviolis used the ham you can find at a convenience store and they were all mushed together. Why call it ravioli if it's one singular thing mushed together. I never complain but they live in a great country with amazing food. They could do a minimal job here or even order from another place and resell it at an up charge for the amount they are charging. The food is .... Fine. You can't really knock Argentine pizza because it's like it was only described to them like how a human body worked in Star Trek's TOS Menagerie. They keep stating at you nervously while you eat- this is a tip-off that shady s*** is going to down. The biggest issue is the likely identity theft. They can't figure out how to use the card reader, until they try three of your cards; so, check your statement when you go home. Also, a waiter physically grabbed me on my way out demanding a tip; so, be ready to fight. I'd recommend just knocking him down then leaving. read more

I will be back to order the ribeye, which looked perfect on a table close by. Returned for my Ribeye steak and was excellent. The green salad was perfect. Fresh squeezed orange juice. We were staying at the Four Seasons and wanted to go to a good place for dinner, but without a long cab ride, etc. And, we were looking for a break from Buenos Aires beef meals. Piegari really fit the bill! Here are a few things we noticed: - It was a Saturday night and we had made a fairly early 8pm reservation. They couldn't find the reservation when we arrived, but the place was very empty at that point and so they gave us a table. - The wine list was great...we ordered a nice Rose and throughout the meal, the waiter was too occupied to keep pouring it (which is just the way we like it...so that we can pace ourselves re how much wine to keep in the glass). - The food was spectacular. We shared the black squid pasta with shrimp, the Burrata with arugula and prosciutto, and a spinach salad with avocado, tomatoes, and goat cheese. They didn't mind that we were sharing the plates and actually divided up both the pasta and Burrata in advance onto two separate plates. Everything was great, but the Burrata was extra special. - The restaurant isn't necessarily the type of place that you would call "intimate", as it is quite large and the lighting is pretty bright. It didn't bother us; it was fun to watch so many locals coming in for the evening. Bottom line: Fantastic Italian place in Buenos Aires...you won't go wrong here! read more

Very good Italian food. Seems that everything was made from scratch. Meals were huge. I had a single appetizer and it was large enough for an entire meal. My order was for baked eggplant with cheese. The eggplant needed the help of the tomato sauce, so the waiter brought some for me. The sauce tasted and had the texture of homemade super fresh. Very good. Husband had the garlic cream sauce on the fettuccine with shrimp. OMG, that was amazing. The noodles looked like ink noodles but the menu didn't mention. We were looking forward to great Italian food and a fun dining experience and were disappointed. We made a reservation and were seated in the flight path between the serving station and where guests were arriving to be seated. The atmosphere is very bright with bustling older male waiters who are friendly but busy. We ordered a nice bottle of wine and a garlic shrimp appetizer which were both lovely. Maybe the Caesar salad is like this Argentina, but it was room temp lettuce drenched in a mayonnaise based sauce with soggy croutons and a pile of Parmesan. It was so bland, I could hardly eat it and when asked for anchovies that didn't help either. Pretty much left it all. My husband ordered saffron risotto with lamb ragu and it was just ok. Hoping it had been slow cooked all day, the lamb ragu was nothing special as was pile of saffron risotto. When you host a business dinner, you need perfect service and food. At least I do. Piegari meet all my expectations. Amazing food, the most charming service and a lovely atmosphere. We were in 50 (!!!) and I was more than impressed with their ability and expertise handling big groups. Although the waiters were old enough to be my grandpa - they were so adorable and charming that I was tempted to take them home with me! (Just an observation: I stayed one week in Buenos Aires and in every restaurant I was there was only grandpa style waiters. I love grandpas but this single smiling Brazilian wished some handsome young guys for light flirt while eating. Lol) One of the best italian restaurants I've ever been. We had procciutto, calamari and veggies for starters - all perfectly done and in huge amounts. I had a "Fetuccini nero di seppia con langostinos y crema de ajo" and it was amazing! Sent here by the front desk staff at the Alvear Art. A good thing they called ahead, it's popping on a Monday night at 9 p.m. We started with a burrata plate, which came with arugula and prosciutto. Combined with the house bread basket, it made a sufficient starter for 3. The burrata was superb and in great condition. Onto our mains, a black pasta with seafood in a cream sauce, and a ragu of lamb with risotto wowed. I was a little less impressed with my noquis (gnocchi) in tomato sauce, which was good, but pretty standard. Service was professional, the waiters remind me of the old pros at Smith and Wollensky. Too stuffed for dessert, we leave at 11, folks are still coming. Wish I had plumped for the cannelloni. read more

Nice upscale looking restaurant with a large professional wait staff. The modern art adds a nice touch. We arrived approx. 7:30pm and by 9pm the restaurant was almost full on a Thursday eve. We ordered the Caesar salad, the Fusilli Bolognese, and the Shrimp with black risotto. All was delicious (could use a tad less salt). This was plenty for 3 of us. The food was very good as the Argentinian wine. Fresh pasta cooked perfectly al dente. This would have cost 2x as much back in NY. I hate to write a review while I'm still in the restaurant but I'm so disgusted right now that I needed to write before the feeling passed. My entree is still in front of me so there's time to perhaps elevate my meal however, while I'm sitting here trying to enjoy my meal three restaurant employees presumably management are planning the next menu and deciding what to order from their vendors for next week's order. One of them even has a laptop completely open! You would expect this at a small 'hole in the wall' but this is supposed to be fine dining! They have white tablecloths and the restaurant name on the plates for crying out loud!!! So disappointed because this place came highly recommended but they should know better! Shame on you Piegari!! (I would've given them two stars but the food was/is really good and the waiter is a sweetheart but...) WOULD NOT COME BACK. (Amendment: just had the Limonata for dessert and it is going down as the best dessert I've had on this trip - I've been to six cities in 5 countries over the course of 2.5 weeks... Excellent food in the Recoleta section of Buenos Aires. We visited Piegari Restorante on our way home (flew in from Iguazu Falls). We arrived around 5:00 and the majority of the restaurant was empty. We wanted to have an amazing meal before getting on the plane to go back home and this restaurant was highly recommended and ended up meeting everyone of my expectations. Piegari was recommended by our hotel, along with friends we met on a cruise, in addition to a business acquaintance who lives in Buenos Aires who recommend this restaurant. I have so say that it was the best pasta meal I have ever had in my life. I got the cork screw with bolognese and my wife got the shrimp pasta. We started off with an avocado salad which was so delicious. We loved our "late lunch" so much that we took our leftovers (no way you can eat it all in one seating) so we could eat it on the plane ride back (1,000 times better than airplane food). Service was excellent and friendly and food was beyond comparison. Highly, highly highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Buenos Aires. read more

Decent food, intiminating greeting. This restaurant is next to the Four Seasons where I am staying. It's sister is across the street and is mainly a steak place which I would give 4 stars. This is Italian. When I arrived, the restaurant was empty. The greeter tried to put me into a table that was by the door and unsuitable. I pointed to another which he said was reserved. I watched the ball headed greeter throughout the meal. He was never welcoming to anyone. He must be family member or the owner. Often times he was downright rude. The food was good but not great. I was the only non Argentine in the place which has a nice decor. This place needs a course on being charming and welcoming. I will not be going back but I will to it's sister by the same name. There is nothing better than the lamb stuffed ravioli with the mushroom sauce! Great portions and while it is expensive once you take one bite you know why it's worth it. My husband got the steak and could not stop raving about its perfection. We also tried the salad with avocado and could not let a single bite go to waste.
