After going to a morning tour, I was feeling hungry but wanted a break from eating beef. Saw the good reviews for Marcelo and nice photos. Restaurant is upscale. There are a lot of paintings hanging on the walls and by the tables. I arrived around noon and didn't have any reservation but it was still early for lunch. Argentinians eat lunch at 2 pm. I was promptly seated and asked for the English menu. While the servers don't speak much English, I was able to get by with my broken Spanish. Most of the menu items are good for 2 persons. I asked if there is a single portion and server indicated that they can do single portions. I ordered the Frutti di Mare (seafood spaghetti). The portion was huge! The spaghetti was cooked perfectly. There were tons of seafood... squid, clams, mussels and shrimps. It was delicious! One thing to note. When I received the bill, for a 1 person portion, they charged 80% of the cost for 2. Thinking I should have just ordered for 2 and took the rest to go. I'm sure they tried to explain it and I just didn't understand them. Marcelo is a must while in Buenos! The fresh Italian pasta and ambiance was to die for. The service was top notch, and the food was beyond delicious! Having steak the night before we decided to try Italian for a change of pace while in Buenas Aires. Marcelo's is located on the canal in Buenas Aires with lots of other restaurants to choose from while you walk along the pavement. The restaurant was somewhat hard to find since everyone else had diners relaxing on the outside patio. Marcelo's had the outside closed and the easiest way to get to there front door was go through Starbucks and circle back. Strike one! We arrived a little late so I surprised and a little concerned that that we were their first customers. Hmmmmm! Strike two! The wait staff was a bit stuffy and definitely old school. All male waiters! Maybe strike three but wait. The small margarita pizza we ordered as an appetizer was delicious and the seafood fish for two was actually enough for three. Plus they really didn't skimp on the shrimp. More than a dozen good sized shrimp!! Can be made with regular or green pasta. And! It tasted home made. The risotto and beef dish we ordered was also for three and like before there was enough for three. In fact we took the leftovers back to the hotel and had it for lunch the next day. Excellent food! Worth the stuffy attitude and hard to find location. When we rolled out. two and half hours later the place was almost full. Updated review This is the second time I tried this restaurant. The restaurant is nice and clean. Everything is organize and service was very helpful. The three stars are a combination of both experiences. My first in 2018 was a bit better with their pasta dishes that was seafood based. This time they I wanted fish and rice. The server made some strong suggestion and I went along. The fish was not very good at all. This is something I've noticed in Buenos Aires, the fish is not good! Seafood and shell fish is amazing but ordering a filet is not recommended unless it's salmon which is someone decent. Some of the best Italian food I've had!! We ended up here after a long day of drinking and needed some top notch Italian to soak the booze up. This was a recommendation from my Aunt who lives in BA. Memories of that night include two amazing dishes: - Parmigiana risotto - Cheesy, creamy, the perfect al dente texture. It was well covered with fresh arugula. Not only did this hit the spot in the restaurant - the portion was HUGE and this was polished off over the next two days. - Pesto Gnocchi - This was a non menu item that was requested. The best gnocchi my boyfriend said he ever had. The pesto was so incredibly fresh, and the gnocchi perfectly cooked. This monster portion only lasted one more night. Perfect night for our farewell to BA dinner. The ambiance was beautiful and mostly locals . Men in suits for work affairs but also great for dates or nice dinners. Our waiter Matias was superb. So attentive she made excellent suggestions. He did earn us the food was large portions but boy it was enough for 4 people not 2. We had the ravioli with meat and Cesar salad. Food is super high quality, staff was amazing and the price was excellent. Listen, I have travelled all over Italy while on a month long road trip and nothing compared to Marcelo's. What a horrible experience. We had a reservation for 2 people at 9.45pm on Friday night. More than 45 minutes later, when we were getting ready to leave we finally got seated! People that had arrived after us got seated before us. So I wonder if the maítre d' was "looking for something under the table" to expedite things? Be aware on busy nights (weekends), especially when the reservation is after 8pm, I guess. Afterwards, the food and the service was good. But the whole experience fell short. Too bad. read more

Great first night dinner in Buenos Aires. Recommended by our hotel concierge and we are grateful for his suggestion. Location is wonderful, overlooking the former waterfront area turned tourist area, full of restaurants, walking people, interesting sights including the beautiful Calatrava pedestrian bridge that connects two lovely areas. The restaurant was great. They serve huge portions and warn you not to over order and to share. Even sharing we had twice as much food as two needed. We started with an appetizer of fried cheese which was OK but other salads and appetizers looked more interesting to me. Our pasta was fabulous - tagliatelle with mushrooms, basil, tomatoes, and cheese. Simple but oh so good. We shared a nice Malbec and left more than satisfied. Another note is that the service was friendly and very, very helpful with our poor Spanish and also securing transportation to return to our hotel. read more

Good food, but terrible service. Ok, so normally I'm the kind of person who reads a review complaining about the service, scoffs and says, "Whatever, whiners. If the food's good, who cares?" But in this case, please do not be that person. We had the most inattentive, aloof waiter imaginable. He never checked on us after taking our orders, took years to bring out our courses, forgot butter at our table and when we asked, took forever to come back with it, and made us feel like we could be choking on our food and he wouldn't notice. I'm not asking to be waited on hand and foot (actually that kind of thing makes me extremely uncomfortable, the same queasy slave-owniness I feel when I walk into a Walmart and get greeted by a sad old man), just someone to check in from time to time. He honestly seemed like a cop or someone working undercover as a waiter--that's how little he seemed to know or care about giving us good service. I would've just thought that he's a crappy waiter and not to blame the restaurant for one guy, but he seemed to treat every other table better than ours. Probably because we weren't ordering drinks, which somehow is the magic key that makes the restaurant treat you like you're Prince Ali coming to town. Oh, and to top off his comedy of errors, he brought us the wrong bill at the end with someone else's credit card inside! And no Andes chocolates in the check holder either!!! (JK. The food was a million times better than The Olive Garden. We had a really rich carbonara sauce and a dulce de leche cake that oozed caramel all over the smooth vanilla ice cream on the side. Although the menus alert about servings for 2 people in some of their plates, the truth is that they are big enough for 3 and upto 4 people. That's where the service attending should accommodate to each customer. Food is very good, but expected given the history of the "brand" let alone the price paid i.e. comparable to Cipriani prices in New York and it's definitely NOT Cipriani. Otherwise, quite noisy since the way they set the seating is filling out an area before they move onto others in the restaurant. If they spread out customers it wouldn't be that loud Another aspect I didn't like was that they charge "table service", which taking into account the type of restaurant we are talking about (top tier) it shouldn't be included.
