The Sorrell is a beautiful restaurant! They do have a small parking lot across the street; however, we parked in the Queen street garage which is only a half a block away. We arrived a little early and was greeted immediately by a very nice hostess. We only had to wait about 5 minutes for our table to be ready. Then we were escorted upstairs to the dining room. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable. She took the time to explain the menu to us and each of the entrees as we had never been here before. We started our meal with the rucola e finocchio which is an arugula salad with shaved fennel, red sweet peppers and tossed in a vinaigrette dressing. It was very good! I had the swordfish as my main course and it was cooked perfectly and so decadent! I loved the brown butter and capers on it! My husband got the Rotolo Al Forno - Wood-Fired rolled pasta with provolone picante, rapini, and pork sugo. He shared a bite and it was delicious! He loved it too. We don't typically order dessert but we did this time. I got the olive oil cake and he got the chocolate custard. Both were delicious! The restaurant is accessible on all levels via an elevator or you can take the stairs. The bar area is very inviting and gorgeous. My wife and I tried Sorelle for the first time on Father's Day. We arrived a little bit early about 10 minutes and had to wait. I'm always a little bit cautious with new businesses making me wait for my reservation when I arrive a little bit early especially when there's a lot of tables available. It doesn't always send the very best first impression. I was surprised how large the places and was seating all over. They put us along this wall with several other people. Well many of the tables behind us were open in the room a little odd but I've seen this type of set up before very common for the Charleston area. I understand it's for the convenience of the servers and that was probably their area but it's not very convenient for the guests. The people directly to our left were celebrating their 40th anniversary and I'm sure they didn't want us sitting 2 feet from them. That said, our server was very good, helpful and knew the menu well. The food was amazing and the ambience and building were beautiful. We will probably go back again, but will remember to request a table away from the main crowd. read more

This review is for their cafe. We stopped in on a weekday afternoon for a post-lunch pick me up. If we weren't so full, I would've tried one of their many delicious looking pastries. Their decor was a wonderful cross of burnt orange and sage greens but in Christmas/holiday wreaths and ribbons. I opted for their specialty cinnamon toast latte. I honestly found this experience underwhelming. I was super excited to try Sorelle after hearing all the hype for months. The service was honestly the worst part- I could barely understand the server and when we did ask questions he didn't seem to quite know the answers. I asked for more bread for my Burrata and it didn't come until our entrees showed up. When the entrees came the food runners looked down at our table and noticed nothing had been cleared... they sighed and turned around. The food didn't come back out for another 10 minutes meaning it sat under the heat lamps. My mom ordered another beer with her meal and it never came. The food was okay... we had the veal tagliatelle. It was cooked correctly but nothing to rave about. The aperol oysters were odd...I respect the creativity and I appreciate the chefs vision but I would not order them again. The Burrata was probably my favorite part- the honey crisp with the neutral Burrata taste was paired well. The sweet potato (or pumpkin I can't remember) Parmesan was okay, but again nothing to brag about. I will give them another chance because I do want to try the pillows of gold and maybe the service will be better. I think our waiter was either new or just having a bad day. read more

So 4 good dishes and one really bad one First, Sorelle is very elegant and modern in its design. The service is impeccable, and somehow, every staff member we passed knew it was the wife's birthday and her so. Our server Olivia, was friendly and helpful throughout the meal. Additional wait staff were there to remove a plate as soon as a dish was completed, and excess crumbs were swept off the table each time We started by splitting the Capesante Pan-Seared Diver Scallops main dish as our appetizer. These are easily the largest and perhaps the best Scallops we have ever enjoyed. The scallops were cooked to a perfect temperature, and the citrus was very light, and not overpowering. We also ordered the Pane, which is self-described in the menu as Sorelle's Bread Service, World's Best Olive Oil. The bread is delicious, but I am not sure why they think it is the Worlds best Olive Oil. Maybe out of the bottle it is the world's best, but we both like our dipping oil with seasoning, and this had little to none. OMG, who would have thought that a potato side dish could be so good, but that is what we got with the Patate dish. This was Olive Oil-Fried Potatoes, Rosemary, Castelmagno Italian cheese. The Potatoes themselves were amazingly crisp on the outside while being light on the in. The dish was just bursting with flavor. Personally, I am not a huge fan of Swordfish, but the pictures and reviews pushed me to order this dish. I liked that the fish was not cut overly thick which makes it hard to cook correctly, and I really enjoyed the brown butter sauce. The wife's Grouper dish is where things went wrong. The fish, while properly cooked, was grossly under seasoned, and the Braised Fennel, Caper Leaf Salsa Verde sauce totally overpowered the dish. I just don't get why you would serve such a bold (and frankly not very good), sauce over such a delegate fish like Grouper. You would think batting 800 is a great average, but since this was the wife's main dish on her birthday, it was a real downer for her. read more

I called Sorelle and got a last minute brunch reservation on a beautiful Fall morning in September, 2024. The downstairs coffee cafe "Mercato" had a line out the door and I had to maneuver by the group to check in at the hostess stand in the hallway. Needless to say The Mercato does very well on a Sunday morning! The beautiful dining room, which is located upstairs, is perfect for an intimate meal for two or for larger groups. This was our first time at Sorelle and needless to say we were impressed. They were very busy but it was worth the wait. We had a 9:30pm reservation and we were taken back promptly on time. Our waiter recommended a wine pairing with the meal and it was perfect. We got the pumpkin appetizer and the strawberry caprese which were both unique and fantastic. We got the pillows of gold and the spaghetti for our meals and both were delicious. The main dining room was gorgeous and had the perfect lighting. Our water was never more than half empty. Victor was our waiter and checked in regularly to make sure we were happy with our meals. He recommended the donut dessert with was phenomenal and we had the hazelnut dessert which was also great. The service here is among the best I've ever seen! Holly did an amazing job and all the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Tables are wiped and silverware changed in between courses, and dishes are explained when being served. Food was stellar. Pumpkin Parmigian sounds weird, but it is super good. Definitely not one to miss. The octopus app is great too, nice texture and great flavor. Bolognese is among the best, perfect pasta with a great ragu on top. Our server, Kevin, was very helpful, friendly, attentive, and it was his birthday as well! They had valentine menu for special valentine and everything that they served were amazing! I only got a sandwich from the mercato, so I cannot speak about the restaurant but from what I saw it is beautiful. The mercato offers a great selection of sandwiches, pastries, and drinks. I only got the chicken sandwich and initially thought about getting something else if I was still hungry. The chicken sandwich was delicious and FILLING. Quite literally the best matcha I've ever had! And that's saying a lot. We stopped by for an afternoon pick up before heading over to our hotel to freshen up. The line was out the door but only waited 15mins or so. While we waited we looked around. Adjacent to the coffee shop is the most stunning bar and restaurant. Dreaming lighting and marble counter tops give it a very high end feel. The prices are PRICY but for a vacation treat, we spent it. ($10 for a matcha!) once we all received our drinks we stepped outside and took a seat at one of the front tables along the sidewalk and it reminded me of a beautiful back streets of Italy or France. Such a beautiful garden vibe inviting you to slow down and enjoy the view and conversation. We ended up staying for over an hour chatting and enjoying our coffee/tea. read more

Found this great little gem in Downtown Charleston. Right off of Broad street. Stopped in for lunch a few weeks ago. I thought I was hungry so I ordered the Stromboli and a slice of pizza. Both excellent. They are bigger than you think. I could only finish the Stromboli. Both were so tasty. I am anxious to try one of the sandwiches next time. Burt was a talented waiter, the complete staff was quite attentive and the chef was willing to alter the tasting menu to accomodate us as vegetarians. The black truffle and mushroom risotto was epic. We were 1 of 2 couples to be fortunate to sit at one of the tables out on the 2nd floor patio tables. We each ordered the 5 course meals and worth every cent but then prices are much less in the south than they are in LA. We would have been charged $200 each in LA and here, just $125 each. We ordered champagne $30 each, then Borolo wine each $60 each (ok a bit pricey) but again, worth every cent due to the fabulous and comfortable service by our waitress "Rowen". She was absolutely 5star maverick level service. The rest of the staff was amazing and courteous beyond expectation. We got to walk thru the kitchen and everyone greeted us with great big smiles. Something unheard of in LA. It was almost surreal. Upon our return, we would definitely dine here again. $650 with tip and worth it!! My wife was happy. Happy wife, happy hubby. Such a beautiful restaurant! Multiple levels that feel cozy, warm, and intimate. I was initially greeted by friendly and courteous staff, and was asked if they would like me to take my coat. I feel like not a lot of restaurants offer this kind gesture, so that stood out to me among other establishments. For the food, I started with the broccoli Caesar which is a take on Caesar salad, but with broccolini instead. It was filled with lots of flavor and was a very light app prior to the main course. I also had pane which is a delicious bread in several seasonings. It came with olive oil that tasted pretty standard to me. I would've preferred some sort of seasoning in the oil, but not a big deal as the bread was packed with flavor. For the main course, I had the pillows of gold which is filled with cheese and topped with other seasonings. Absolutely delicious, but the portion is very small. Overall this was a great experience and I will be back! Just know one plate of pasta is not enough for one meal and you will most likely need one or two apps to feel satisfied. read more

This is the cutest little shop ever, we stopped in and got the Italian sandwich. The bread is perfectly crisped and everything was so yummy. Split a bottle of wine just to kickoff our mini vacation. The service was professional and on-it if not especially warm in a Down Home way (although the restaurant demonstrates a special personal touch by providing a card signed by all staffers to those celebrating an event). The rooms are . . . just shy of glorious. Wonderful lighting, beautifully and tastefully decorated, great views out the windows - ah, it's almost distracting from the food. I'm glad it isn't any prettier or we'd want to move in. But the food is remarkable - for example, the tortellini I had were made with an unusually thin pasta layer that 1) held together perfectly and 2) was actually notably flavorful in its own right. Unusual! The filling was just perfectly made: umami (and _just_ salty enough) to where my mouth is watering just remembering it, days later. The zucca parmagiana appetizer - well, I'm so glad I didn't just punt to the arancini (which look great, btw). The squash is so perfectly cooked: just barely al dente, but still easy to eat - the sauces are delicate and each one brought a strong performance to the symphony of the dish. And the little garlic crumbles on top! Ah! Honestly, I could see going and getting a double order as an entree. (The arugula salad was fine - nothing exciting like these other dishes - and the bread service was pretty darned tasty with great oil accompanying it . . . but I'd ordered it essentially to mop up behind everything else and it did wonderfully at that and brought some of its own deliciousness along.) Didn't see anything that grabbed us for dessert. So. I'd go back, for sure. This afternoon, in fact - but sadly I'm not there right now. Next time in Charleston, for sure. We started with the burrata pizza, and I'm still dreaming about it. Perfectly blistered crust, velvety burrata, and the olive oil drizzle! Unreal. Their signature spaghetti was another highlight, simple in the best way, with crispy zucchini, burrata and a tomato sauce that tasted like it came straight from Italy. The arugula and fennel salad was a great palette cleanser, the quiche was fluffy with a flaky crust. The breakfast panino was delicious! We ordered it without the prosciutto, my partner took a bite and yelled WHOOOA. The pesto, cheese, egg, and bread.... Sensational bite! We ended up sharing the sandwich lol.
