crab dish with a sour jelly that was AMAZING
    Chelsea A.

My husband surprised me with this omakase and it was FANTASTIC! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space itself is beautiful and has a lot of unique art within the space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]And the bathrooms are probably the nicest bathrooms I've ever seen in NYC as they have a Japanese toilet with a motion sensor lid.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was very attentive and lovely. I'm a bit short (5'3) so my legs usually just barely touch the bars in a stool / bar seating and when the server (who I believe is also the owner) noticed he brought a shelf essentially that would allow me to rest my feet easier. I've never seen that before and it was so kind and appreciated. They do not have a wine menu which is what I normally order but they do have an extensive sake menu so I decided to give it a try and they have a helpful guide which shows like which sakes are sweet or sour etc. I picked a sweet one which was delicious. When they served it, they let us pick cups based on our Chinese zodiac so we got the monkey and the sheep based on our birth years. So unique and special. And of course the food was delicious! the first half were very unique dishes, plated beautifully and the second half was traditional nigiri. When the chef noticed my strong reaction to the amount of wasabi on the first nigiri, he was kind enough to adjust the amount of wasabi for me moving forward without me even having to ask. All in all it was an incredible night especially not having to go into Manhattan. I look forward to coming back!!

The food was nothing short of outstanding. Every piece of sushi was prepared with incredible attention to detail and melted in my mouth. The ocean trout nigiri was rich, buttery, and beautifully fresh, while the seared toro nigiri had the perfect balance of buttery and smokiness, a true standout bite, but the star for me was the Uni bowl, which came with both Maine and Santa Barbara uni. Service was just as impressive as the food. Our chef Jeff explained each dish with great detail and staff were attentive, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what they do. Overall, Sora exceeded all expectations. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Between the quality of the fish, the impeccable service, and the serene ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Highly recommend to anyone looking for an elevated dining experience in the Brooklyn!

First high-end omakase restaurant in the Sunset Park neighborhood. [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the exterior entrance to the lobby and dining space, the decor gives a clean and zen vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Since we were the only group for an afternoon reservation, we received great service -- perhaps too attentive. For September, Sora ran an "all you can eat omakase and sake" experience for $120. This was my first AYCE experience for an omakase so I was ready to eat lots of high quality sushi. We were served the usual course then was able to get unlimited pieces of specific nigiris such as scallop, sweet shrimp, tuna, and wagyu. We left stuffed with delicious sushi in our bellies. Sora goes by a more traditional omakase with concentration on the quality and flavor of the fish, rather than the usual gimmicky omakases most people might be used to where chefs top lots of caviar, uni or other fancy toppings on top of the fish. I did find some pieces to be a bit saltier than usual but everything still tasted delicious.

Just absolutely exquisite. The chef blends his own soy sauce (I don't think he actually brews his own!), and the sushi rice is one of the best I've ever had in my life. Each course builds on another. Our seating started with 2 courses of sashimi, then a wonderful chawanmushi topped with marinated ikura before the pieces of nigiri started. After the course was done, we were offered add-on uni temaki, which we greedily accepted. The dessert of a coconut flan topped with matcha ended dinner perfectly. Reservations are still easily available, but when more connoisseurs of sushi discover this, it may easily end up with seats being hard to score. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor is modern Japanese, a bit austere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Amazing omakase. We had a lovely experience thanks to the attentive staff and unbelievably fresh ingredients. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We ended up being the only two guests for the 5pm seating, so our dinner felt very personal - such a special time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is super soothing, but also has a bit of a unique flair with the large robot(?) figurine collection.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food itself was great - we were told it was all flown in from Japan, with the exception of the king salmon. Every bite was amazing, and I thought they used larger slices of seafood than most places. Would say my only suggestion would be to have a non-dairy dessert option - I would up with a small fruit plate instead of their matcha pana cotta (but that may have been because I forgot to mention the dairy restriction until like 24 hours before oops). Def worth checking out!

A newly opened omakase restaurant located in Sunset Park (right next to Popeyes!). They have been opened for a couple months now. The outside is so unassuming but as soon as you walk through the doors, it's like you got transported somewhere else. It doesn't feel like 8th Avenue at all. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor inside is very japandi style. Big space inside with two restrooms (and Jo Malone soap). I liked the door separating the seating area from the reception.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Appointment was easy to make on resy (there's lot of availability). They have a promotion going on for the month of September for $120 14 course omakase with unlimited add ons for 5 nigiris and unlimited sake. We were seated promptly and the staff were very attentive and welcoming. We were offered the unlimited house sake which was so sweet and not dry at all. I've had my fair share of bitter / dry sake but this sake was quite delicious. The staff made sure our waters and sake were filled! The sushi chef was also friendly and we had fun interactions with each other. The courses came out at a good pace and at the end of the meal, we put in our orders for the unlimited add ons. For our meal, the choices were: lean tuna, seared salmon, scallop, sweet shrimp, and wagyu. My regret was not eating more! I still had stomach space but wanted to leave at a comfortable full and not stuffed full. The ending dessert was a matcha ice cream with a chocolate brownie and that was so good. Everything from the food to the service and the ambiance were amazing. I had a great time and experience! Only thing we noted after we left was that we didn't get a course of uni! That was a little disappointing. Overall: great addition to the neighborhood, a little pricey but the quality and service makes up for it. Take advantage of the current promotion!

Tucked away among the humble storefronts and Chinese dives of Brooklyn's 8th Ave Chinatown, [[HIGHLIGHT]]Soran is a hidden gem--unassuming from the outside, but offering a high-end omakase experience that rivals the best.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's the kind of place you'd walk right past if you didn't know better. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But step inside, and you're transported to a world of precision, care, and exceptional quality.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Chef Takizawa, trained in Japan, is a master of his craft. Watching him delicately prepare each piece of sushi feels like a performance--every movement intentional, every cut perfect. Fish is flown in from Japan, and you can taste the difference. This is not your typical neighborhood sushi joint. The quality here is on par with what you get at Tsukiji Market in Tokyo. Standouts? The uni scrambled eggs--unexpected and sublime, a specialty of the chef. The hamachi was buttery and clean, the A5 wagyu sushi was melt-in-your-mouth perfect (especially when seared with burning oak right in front of us), and the curry rice--made from wagyu stock--was a warm and comforting. One memorable moment was watching Chef Takizawa fry white fish fresh in front of us. Each piece is presented with care, and the staff respectfully explains every detail, enhancing your appreciation with every bite. This is the kind of omakase that's not just about eating--it's about experiencing. A perfect spot for a special occasion or date night. The staff was incredibly attentive, adding just the right personal touch. A once-in-a-lifetime meal that you'll definitely want to have more than once.

BEST find of 2024 so far!!! My friend told me about this place as she's a frequent goer since they opened. They offer Omakase options for $135 and $160 The meal is carefully thought out by the chef, serving appetizers to start, followed by a couple nigiri pieces, a break from nigiri with a chawnmushi course and a cod uni bowl, continuing with the rest of the nigiri pieces and ending off with the perfectly balanced dessert. Literal foodgasm! We got the 18 course for $160 and got the best of everything. The ingredients were premium quality (uni, caviar, otoro, wagyu etc.) We were staffed by the end! I love that the chef was generous with the portions, the caviar was more than I expected. Every single one of nigiri was beautifully curated and thought out with the sequence of lighter fish working its way towards fattier fish. Waiting staff were nice and great. Definitely will be back for more. PS: great decor! I didn't take much pic since I was chatting with friends, it's something you'll have to see for yourself with your own eyes.

One of the best omakase I been to. I had such an amazing experience. All the staff members were so friendly. I was pouring out of no where and I had no umbrella, but I got lucky because they let me stay in until the rain died down. I do enjoy my fish pieces like scallop and toro. However their appetizer/entree are sooooo good like their cod with truffle rice , toro ikura and uni don, soba noodle and their steam egg. You can see me do my little happy dance with every bite. If you don't mind spending a little extra for omakase this is definitely the spot to try.

I came here for a late dinner at 9pm with a group of 8 to celebrate a birthday. There was no one but our group here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have to say this is a really nice space. Nice natural wood interior, minimalist with some interesting figures in the entrance area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were seated once the group was there. The price is $160-pricey for this area of Brooklyn that is mostly known for cheap eats. You are given a menu of drinks, otherwise chef gets to work to start preparing your omakase meal. The meal was a little chaotic--maybe because it was one chef for 8 people. The service was inconsistent. None of the fish stood out. The chef quickly says what he's giving you but was hard to understand. Just wanted the dinner to be over due to its inconsistencies. Probably wouldn't come back. For the price, can have better omakase multiple times over elsewhere or somewhere else in general

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a hidden gem located in the middle of borough/sunset park area. If you walk a little fast you might miss it since the outside has a minimalistic low key entrance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Once you walk inside you feel as it you are transformed to a place in the city. You can tell that the design and decor was well thought out to create a little calm oasis in the middle of bustling 8th ave.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The waiting area is seperate from the dining area which was a very smart design choice, since omakase is usually reserved for certain time frames the guest who are still enjoying their meal arent distracted or the experience isnt getting taken away by the people who arrive early for the next omakase seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bathroom itself is really nice too, fancy bidet toilet and jo malone diffuser.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] (IYKYK) The music and the lighting is just right and the servers and chef were very attentive and friendly. Calvin who was our server ensured that our tea and sake cups and water were always full and that our plates were cleaned frequently in between pieces of sushi. [[HIGHLIGHT]]i liked that this place is a bar only seating which might or might not work best for everyone. Personally bar seating is preferred for me since you get to watch the chef do his magic and its a more interactive experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This is a great place if you can manage to find 12-13 people and book out the whole restaurant to have a little gathering. I would say this type of omakase leans more traditional where there isn't alot of garnishing or toppings (yuzu, truffle etc) to enhance the fish, this is the type of sushi where the flavor of the fish speaks for itself. Is this the best omakase i been to? probably not, but i do feel as though it was great value for the price. There were a few hits and misses for me. The chawamushi, the toro, artic char, and hokkaido uni with smoked trout egg over rice were some of my highlights. I found that the soy sauce that was used on a few of the pieces was too salty for my preference, like the smoked bonito, wagyu and tuna tartare although delicious was a tad bit salty. I wasn't a fan of the fresh water eel, the texture and consistency wasn't there for me and someone from the group who had been there previously said it was better previously cause the chef jeff would grill it in front of you. The miso black cod over truffle rice had a bit too much rice wine vinegar and leaned a bit too sour. Overall this was a great experience and i would recommend for someone on a date night or celebrating a special occasion.

One of the best omakase experiences I've had. The quality of the fish was outstanding, seasoning was perfectly balanced, and the progression of courses was well paced. Truly impressive craftsmanship by the chef.

Visited Sora for a weekend dinner. We opted for their 18-course omakase experience. Chef was incredibly friendly and walked us through each course. The pacing was perfect--never rushed, never slow. Love the fish and wagyu soup. Uni and scramble eggs were amazing!one of my favorite was tuna with dashi broth! A must-visit for sushi lovers.

The fish was very fresh and good quality. We tried the fried purple yams, fried chicken, stir fried udon, yakisoba, and a variety of sushi platters. I would highly recommend the Tokyo Don which was a variety of fish and seafood on a bed of rice. The Salmon Lover's was also excellent, and slices of fish were nice and thick. Service: Service was wonderful! Our waiter was attentive and came back to check on us throughout the meal. There's a button to press when you need service, and our waiter was always quick to come after we pressed it. Ambiance: The restaurant is a good size with tables sectioned off into small "rooms". There are two private rooms downstairs that fit about 6-7 people each. The rooms are adjoining and good for large groups. Seating downstairs is the Japanese-style tables where you put your legs into a pit under the table. Decor and ambiance is very nice, and seating is comfortable. It was an absolute lifesaver that kept the girls happily entertained. And the food was absolutely worth savoring. We kicked things off with a round of handrolls--salmon avocado, spicy salmon, and yellowtail--which were perfectly crisp and packed with fresh fish. I went all in on the Salmon Lovers set, and it was an absolute dream. It came with a massive, beautiful spread of salmon sushi, seven thick pieces of melt-in-your-mouth sashimi, a salmon avocado roll, a bright kani salad, and a really savory piece of grilled salmon. We also shared the Ysukiji sushi platter, which featured a gorgeous, high-quality assortment of cuts, while the Smoked Chicken bento box was a huge hit, offering fantastic cooked flavors and generous portions. The room we were in mimicked a traditional Japanese room where everyone had to sit on the floor and put their legs under the table. It was fun for the younger people but it was difficult for the elders to sit down and get back up. Between the incredibly fresh sushi and the warm hospitality that kept the whole family smiling the entire time, this spot easily earned five stars. We can't wait to come back!

The amount of noodles is decent and the toppings are pretty good the egg actually come with both half's rather than one like some places so that's good, my only gripe is that the cha siu isn't heated through after being served which tells me that they didn't torch it for long enough before serving. That usually also makes it less tender as the middle is still a little coagulated from being chilled prior. I would also assume that chicken broth is less calorie dense than pork so I also felt less guilty drinking it all. We have been searching for a Japanese restaurant in our area as a response to the Fall of Tenzan…read more We were looking for a place that can make beef teriyaki, appetizers, and other kitchen items as well as fresh seafood options. I have a tendency to pinpoint the moment that fish transcends from being sashimi-worthy to being sushi-worthy. I also notice imitation crab stick like a sore thumb. When I first opened the package, I was amazed by the smell of the gyoza. They smelled amazing. I can't eat them, but was told they were great. The Miso Soup was in a generous 16 ounce container. It was delicious and clean. The Beef Teriyaki was great. It wasn't undercooked. It wasn't sweet. It had that great grill taste, like a steak. The bed of veggies underneath had that same great grilled taste, and weren't disproportionately cabbage. The dish wasn't drowning in teriyaki and that made it possible to eat every bite. The Sashimi Deluxe was fabulous. The fish was fresh and the serving was ample. Each type of fish was on a shisho leaf upon a bed of daikon, which was nice. I did find one pinbone and one piece had a bit of membrane that should have been trimmed off. These are totally acceptable compared to being served fishy tasting sashimi. There was ample rice included with the doshes, and soy sauce that was dark and strong in 2 ounce containers. The California roll was the only unremarkable item. Tenzan never added cucumber to their California roll, which was always weird, but the rich thick chunk of ripe avocado made you forget everything else. This one at Sapporo had equal amounts avocado, crab, and cucumber, which makes it so you taste none of them. I'd love a little more ripe avocado, less cucumber, more crab. It will be a little bigger, but I'm willing pay a little more. Tenzan's included roe on the outside, which we love but know is not standard. They have a lunch menu on this printed menu. Tenzan no longer serves lunch menu specials, so I am excited to explore their lunch specials. And they have a Tatsuya Age lunch, which I will obsess over until I get it.
