We had a great meal here when we were up in Sonoma a couple of weeks ago. I started going to this place, I think soon after it opened. My mom lived in Napa and it was one of the places in Sonoma that she loved to go to. We would go here for lunch and then shop around the square. So recently my husband and I decided to spend a couple of days in Sonoma. It was really hot outside and this place was around the corner from where we were staying. In fact it backed on to the hotel's property. I looked it up on Yelp and it still had good reviews. We had a great meal with excellent service. The food was good (although a bit bland - seasoning). I had the Petrali Sole which was prepared and presented well. Another in my party had the Salmon and another had the Ravioli. The presentation was great. The service by the owner/manager and waitstaff was impeccable. The covered patio area was inviting, having an open air atmosphere. The bar had great drinks that were prepared well. The restaurant is a short walk from Sonoma Square and has its own parking lot. There are hotel accommodations across the street. Walked in during happy hour and the vibes were immaculate. My large party sat in the patio our server was very attentive. We ordered many things off the happy menu such as oysters, calamari, garlic fries, and the charcuterie board. We had no reservations and it was not busy at 6pm. It didn't get busy around 7pm. Overall consensus was the appetizers were average but main dishes were delicious. Drinks were great! This review is base on a delivery. We ordered the shrimp cocktail, SG cheeseburger, fries and chocolate torte. Everything was great except for the fries. Granted, French fries sitting in a cardboard box for longer than five minutes is probably not the best environment for them to stay crispy. Still, they were obviously undercooked. Found this spot after a bball game very close to Sonoma Valley High. The downtown area was nice and quaint. Parked in the adjoining restaurant lot. Received a friendly greeting and were seated immediately. Ordered the ahi tuna tartare, Caesar salad, and bread basket to start. Our entrees were the chicken sandwich, saffron pappardelle with shrimp, and my go-to fish and chips. Ahi app was good...Pasta tasted homemade and fresh, chicken Sando was on a nice ciabatta roll, and my fish was fried well. The fries were crispy. Service was friendly and efficient. we went to enjoy happy hour. the atmosphere is lovely and our waiter couldn't have been better. my friend ordered the oysters. they were minuscule and the bbq sauce was delicious. i had the momos. they were small, about 1/3 of the size i have enjoyed at yeti. i wondered if they were made just for happy hour. the flatbread was delicious but it was soft and floppy with just the edges crisp. i will go back and try some other items in the future but this experience had a lot to be desired. read more

We had eaten here several months ago and had a very good experience. We decided to have dinner last night and our expectations were exceeded. We sat in the courtyard and it was quiet-key factor-and very pleasant and clean. We had the Pappardelle with shrimp and sun-dried tomatoes with an outstanding sauce, steamed clams and mussels also with outstanding sauces, and the spinach pasta. We were very satisfied with the portions and prices. Service was attentive and not overbearing. The owner was present and he was very cordial and truly appreciative of our visit. First time in downtown Sonoma, and after doing some research we decided on eating here and found this gem. We arrived around 4:00pm they have designated parking all around the perimeter of the restaurant. Another plus I was unaware of the happy hour fortunately we made it just in time for the last hour giving plenty of time to order some apps and drink front it. Happy hour is Daily (3-5pm). I appreciated being able to sit anywhere in the restaurant and still benefit from the happy hour menu only because I know some restaurants have designated seating which can be uncomfortable when your also trying to enjoy the regular dining experience. We sat outside right next to the cutest concrete water fountain which made the ambiance even more peaceful. We had a few different servers and they were all attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, I couldn't decide between there special of the day the cioppino or the hot seafood platter. Ultimately I decided on the hot seafood platter. We started with the tuna tartare which was great I loved the amount of tuna and avocado it was a really good combination, it could have had a bit more flavor though. My first time eating here, my friend invited me to the Sonoma Grille! We sat outside under the canopy Saturday night, the ambience was very nice. We had the raw oysters as a starter and they were so fresh and tasty , served with the Mignonette sauce on the side. Sadly, the main course was very , very underwhelming. We had the pappardelle with shrimp and sun dried tomatoes. The shrimp were lightly sautéed with sun dried tomatoes , then placed on top of boiled, tasteless pasta . As you can see from the photo, the pasta was boiled, strained, then put in the bowl (pasta water still in my bowl). There was no butter, no oil, NO SEASONING, just bland past in it's water. I think an "assisted living " kitchen would have created a tastier dish. Perhaps this dish was prepared by a chef's helper ??? My fault for not sending the dish back. read more

Dined at Sonoma Grille on a busy saturday night. The place was packed with a great lively atmosphere. We started with soicy margarita and manhattan. For appetizers we had to get the garlic lemon bbq oysters and tried their ceviche and appetizer special crab cake. All of them were 10/10. For our mains we had their special pasta of the day RIGATONI with pesto sauce, NY STEAK and the FILET MIGNON. All the dishes were fantastic. To end the night we tried the tiramisu, cinnamon donut and some ports to pair. Overall we left with a pleasant feeling. Can't wait to come back again. read more

Definitely recommend the entrees over their seafood! The entrees were perfect and absolutely delicious. The seafood was slightly lacking. Every single oyster we ate had shell bits and many of the mussels in the appetizers had sand in it. I think they might just need to shuck the oysters a bit better since the oyster itself was delicious until we chomped on the shell bits. We were visiting Sonoma with family and friends for a 7 day holiday. One late afternoon 7 of us went to Sonoma Grille for the 1st time. We were nicely greeted by staff and manager. Don't be fooled by the small space, the food here plays big! Had an amazing dinner, was recommended the garlic bread and was surprised by the crust of crushed garlic on buttery bread. The pear salad was amazing, the garlic mashed potatoes were tasty and the filet was perfect. Service was exceptional as well. Appetizers were delicious. The hanger steaks, salmon and chicken plates were all highly praised by our guests. Our group was large at 24 persons...every meal came out hot and timely. Our guests never waited for a beverage. Nawang was beyond accommodating when my son explained I had broken my femur the week prior. We love being able to eat inside or outside. The staff is great and their happy hour is a great deal. We especially love their flatbread.

The ambience and service were pretty good but nothing else was. I came here with my brother, who was visiting from Boise for a few days (it was my first time here). He declared his manhattan "terrible, maybe the worst I've ever had." (He's a bartender and expert with cocktails.) I started with a margarita, my favorite drink when I go "out." The waiter didn't ask how I wanted it, or whether I wanted salt (I didn't). It was bad, obviously made with a mix AND NOT EVEN COLD. We would have left after that but we had already ordered food. We ordered two varieties of "momo," described as "Himalayan Influenced dumplings." They were tiny, bland and barely edible, and not at all like other Asian dumplings. The prices weren't that great, so overall this was a "zero stars" experience. There are several great happy hours in Sonoma. I doubt this place will survive. read more

Every dish is just not good. :( Started with shrimp cocktail got two for the table and both we literally couldn't eat because they were definitely frozen then defrosted but also heated. And basil at the bottom The Burrata which I always love and even that was weird and tasteless. It usually oozes out when sliced but this was firm not milky and then came on top of a odd pomegranate sauce next to a raspberry and blackberry Pear salad that was very 90's not bad but why not fresh pears ? Instead diced and either canned or marinated to loose crunch and flavor next to candied walnuts, danish blue crumble over a bed of lettuce Mains A sweet and sour thick pork chop that had no good sear or texture cause it's drenched in sweet sauce Spinach and ricotta ravioli in lemongrass cream sauce. Pasta was doughy like raw tasting pasta dough with lemongrass sauce that tasted like nothing Petrole sole with Cajun seasoning over couscous. Fish super bland no texture no idea where that Cajun seasoning went ? Couscous watery and very bland with spinach or some greens and shredded carrots on top Then a super gross linguine. Texture of the noodles was bad and once again had those gross shrimp on top. At least grilled the shrimp were not as gross as the shrimp cocktail but for an added $14 protein only 1 shrimp was eaten and then left. No dessert. We were ready to go. So with tip right around $500 dollars worth of super bland watery weird food. Seems like the crowd is definitely older or having a company meet up. This is like Hyatt buffet quality and it's a step back in time and not in a cute diner way. They were nice enough but we all left so disappointed in the food and price and talked about ordering pizza to the hotel when we left. read more

Went there last night, New Years eve for preset menu ($85 per person) It was a horrible food. We felt like we were at a nursing home cafeteria: mushy, tepid, uninspiring, over-cooked, canned and Costco frozen dessert. People around us were not eating it either. People were socializing and making the best of it. The starters for example were covered with balsamic glaze, green salad was inedible it was coarse frisee lettuce, by the main course people basically realized they will have to just pick at their plate graciously or make a scene, lamb raw and chewy- no choice how to have it grilled - at the Sonoma Grille, the scallops came with creamed corn and frozen peas that was literally the breaking point. No one around was eating that --when they were clearing tables, whole plates of uneaten food were being returned and by dessert- people were ordering dessert-liquers to have some fun and not have to think about what is being presented and what the food and whole deal turned out to be. It could not have been worse. Service was fine, waiter had sombre energy but polite. We have been had. This is completely a no return to place, ever. read more

I came here for a company offsite, where there were over 20 of us dining! The staff was great, as I know they had to juggle us, a wedding, and also their usual diners. HORS D 'OEUVRES ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vegetable Flatbread 5/5 - Flatbread topped with artichokes, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, pesto and feta cheese. The flatbread was SO soft I could have eaten a whole meal of it. Monterey Bay Calamari 4/5 - Crispy calamari served with chili lime aioli. The waiter told us one of the sauces were made of horseradish. That sauce was spicier than the aioli, but they were good when mixed together. My personal preference is to stick with marinara sauce. We started off the meal delicious hors d 'oeuvres, and there were so many leftovers that I felt bad since they had given us so much of everything! Our table could probably have split two calamari's and three to four flatbreads. SALAD ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mixed Green Salad 5/5 - Spring mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers with raspberry vinaigrette. I really enjoyed the vinaigrette on this one, which wasn't too tangy and had a hint of sweetness. They gave quite a big portion, so I noticed quite a few of us couldn't finish all of it. ENTREE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hanger Steak 3/5 - Madagascar peppered, naturally raised, hanger steak with fingerling potatoes, vegetables and a port reduction sauce. Some of my coworkers mentioned this as well, but the steak was medium rare and we had expected the norm would be medium or medium well. I know it's difficult to match everyone's preferences since we were such a big group, but I would have preferred the meat be more cooked. I enjoyed the asparagus since there were no tough parts on it. My coworker mentioned there was a lot of pepper on the potatoes, which I agree with. DESSERT ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chef's Sampler Platter 5/5 - There was no description for this one, so my coworkers and I were guessing what would be on the platter! Dessert is always the best part of the meal, and the creme brulee didn't disappoint! There were also two flavors of sorbet, which might have been raspberry and mango. The brownie tasted very good paired with the ice cream, and the tiramisu was also delicious. The raspberries on top were a nice touch. The service was very pleasant, our server's name was Cesar he was attentive & checked in with us often. We had calamari as an appetizer, the portion was perfect for our table of four & as always, it was delicious. For my main entree I wanted something to pair with the Cabernet we brought with us so I ordered their Lamb Shank; the plate comes with a very flavorful saffron risotto. Dessert here is a must! I ordered the chocolate torte with an Irish coffee. The chocolate torte was decadent & rich, it was my first time trying the Irish coffee but definitely not my last as it was prepared quite well. We shared a Pear Salad - which was light and fresh - and a Vegetable Flatbread - which was light and flavorful. We decided to have our post-civil ceremony wedding celebration here for 9 people. Nawang was kind, responded quickly and great to work with! I especially appreciate being able to communicate via email back-and-forth, which made it much easier. We did a prix fixe menu, which ended up being the perfect way to go. We especially loved the printed menu with the congratulations message to us. When we arrived, the patio & our table were all set with menus at every setting. The food was great! We loved the appetizers, salads, and main courses. Everything tasted fresh! I highly recommend trying the chef sampler for dessert. It was a little bit of everything for all of us to enjoy. And of course, tasty wine and champagne. We were even served hot towels after eating, which was a thoughtful and elegant touch! Miguel, our server was very accommodating and friendly. This is a must-try spot if you're visiting Sonoma. I've been dining at Sonoma Grille for a while now, and it never disappoints. We shared some amazing appetizers, including the Vegetable Flatbread and Burrata, both bursting with flavor. The BBQ Oysters and Caesar Salad were also fantastic. As always, the Pappardelle was a winner - it's been my favorite dish since the first time I tried it. And of course, the Chocolate Torte is the perfect way to end the meal.
