    Salt and Pepper Chicken Don
    Alexandra L.

On a beautiful Saturday, came to the mall specifically to have lunch at Sono. What's crazy is the line next door at Chipotle is crazy busy, and this hidden gem, it was busy enough but not packed. Although, I'm kinda happy about that - no long line! We ordered the same thing we got our first visit, but I seriously need to try more of their stuff. Next time I plan on getting the Japanese Shrimp or the salt and pepper popcorn tofu or takoyaki!

When you walk in, the shop is very inviting. The bright yellows and whites help brighten and warm the room. I was surprised at how extensive the menu was; I thought there would be a majority of drinks and two items to snack on, but there were definitely more than I was prepared to decide on. I opted for the popcorn chicken. As I waited for my food, there was a couple fun things to see, like their wall of blind boxes you can purchase. For the price of the popcorn chicken, I felt that the amount I received was very fair, and honestly worth it. There were a lot of big pieces of chicken (suchhhh a perk since it could have been all deep fry), and the flavour was super yummy. I think next time I'd order it with extra seasoning or garlic/basil (? I think they had these two in there). I felt it could have been seasoned just a SMIDGE more, but it was still tasty. After iTea left a popcorn chicken sized hole in my heart, I felt this was a suitable replacement. I haven't gotten the drinks yet, but am excited to try it next!

Absolutely delicious! I came in for my lunch and ended up staying the enjoy the ambience. There is a self-ordering kiosk at the front. The menu was pretty straightforward so I ordered their Pop N Bo combo! This is an order of popcorn chicken and a medium boba drink. The interior is clean and cute! There is plenty seating inside and out! They brought my order fresh to me and to my table. The popcorn chicken was piping hot and I loved that! It was crispy and satisfying and the boba was refreshing. I really enjoyed my visit!

Came here for lunch with my partner - I ordered the sono boba milk tea (with regular boba) and the basil chicken don (which came with macaroni salad, seaweed salad, and cucumber salad) and he ordered the pop n bo (popcorn chicken and a mango snow white (with peach popping boba) and everything was great--the drinks were not too sweet, and the food was not too salty. Service was a little slow, but the piping hot food made up for it. The popcorn chicken was definitely the star of the show - light but crisp coating, with lots of white pepper. The chicken pieces were also large and hearty. Probably the best Taiwanese popcorn chicken in the valley (that I've had). The only critique I have is that the boba seemed to be a little overcooked - there was a nice chew but not quite as Q as I personally enjoy. We'll definitely be back though!

Stopped here for lunch and arrived around 11:40am. The owner, Jerry, is super friendly. He made sure to accommodate my friend's dairy allergy for her drink and assured the food was safe to eat. I've been here several times already so I knew what to expect. Eating popcorn chicken fresh is the best. I burnt my tongue a few times but was worth it. I also got the tiramisu milk tea with coffee jelly and I think I've found my new favorite. I look forward to having it again soon!

I ordered the Tiger Power drink and it was amazing. Super refreshing, great flavor, and way better than I expected. Definitely a standout on the menu and something I'd come back for. Highly recommend trying it.

    Udon with shrimp and chicken

I had the shrimp and chicken udon. The broth had this unique smoky flavor and I can honestly say it was one of the most wonderfully flavored broths I have had from asian soups. So delicious. I ask had the prickly pear mojito boba tea, but it was a bit too sweet for me. It tasted quite artificially sweetened. Not my style, but my boyfriend's mango one was excellent! This was my second time here and I would go back again.

We got Pop n Bo, Basil Ginger Chicken Don, Sono House Noodles, Prickly Pear Mojito, and Tiger Power Snow White. Impressed! The workers jumped into action as soon as we ordered and cooked rapidly. It was all cooked to order, well seasoned, and cooked well. The chicken in every dish was distinct and delicious. Basil Ginger Chicken tasted exactly like it. The Teriyaki Chicken that comes with the Sono House Noodles was perfectly sauced and not too sweet. The side dishes that come with the entrees -- pickled cucumbers, seaweed salad, macaroni salad, sweet steamed egg bite -- were all tasty! The Popcorn Chicken (from the Pop n Bo combo) was perfectly fried and not greasy. The boba drinks weren't the best we've ever had but they were still very good and complimented our meals. The place is bright, cheery, and conveniently located at San Tan Village.

I stopped by last week and the worker was very friendly and welcoming! I ordered the "super size" Thai tea with boba and paid about $11 with tip. The inside was clean and cool. The yellow makes it very cheerful and fun. The drink was refreshing and yummy.

I was super excited for a new boba place in Gilbert and especially one with a SUPER size boba option, but the boba drinks are my least favorite thing about this place. I've tried several drinks and haven't found one that I love yet: - Tiramisu was just ok. It didn't have any flavors that stood out. - Thai Milk Tea was super underwhelming and didn't taste like the Thai Tea at other places. - Taro Yama - My husband really enjoys this drink, but this was my least favorite one I tried here. - Sea Salt Mango - The only drink I've tried so far that I somewhat enjoy, but not enough to get a SUPER size version of. I do however enjoy most of the food here! The XLB (soup dumplings) was pleasantly good. Their popcorn chicken is well portioned and delicious and comes with a very delicious sauce. I also love being able to order off a kiosk. The service and staff are super nice! They are so accommodating and welcoming. I'll definitely be back for the XLB and to try more drinks and hopefully find one I love.

I've been here twice now, and I'm officially hooked. This place is adorable, clean, and organized, with a cozy and welcoming vibe from the moment you walk in. It's tucked in a big shopping center, and I love that Barnes & Noble (two stories!) is right next door--perfect for a little treat + book combo outing. Drinks & Food The staff is amazing--super friendly, upbeat, and actually knowledgeable, especially when it comes to food allergies. I have a dairy allergy, and they knew exactly what drinks I could safely order, and even helped me with alternative options. * My favorite: Matcha boba -- smooth, balanced, and not overloaded with ice (which I really appreciate--you're getting what you pay for!). * My daughter's favorite: Rose milk tea with boba - fragrant, floral, and so refreshing * The boba itself is perfect--soft, chewy, and never overcooked. They also offer something called the Pop N Bo--a combo that comes with boba + crispy fried chicken for just $16, and the chicken is dairy-free! Also tried their Gyoza, and let me just say: top-tier deliciousness. Cute Extras They sell the cutest things! * Adorable custom cups * Keychains, collectibles, and mini merch * Grab-and-go snacks and drinks in the refrigerated case by the register * Don't forget to ask for a punch card so you can earn points toward free drinks! Clean & Quirky Bathroom Even their bathroom is a vibe--super clean and decorated with cute cat art on the walls. Love the attention to detail here. Final thoughts: Sono Boba is now one of my go-to spots for a treat with my kids or a solo pick-me-up. Great drinks, great food, allergy-friendly, adorable atmosphere, and just overall good energy. Can't wait to go back and try more!

I liked this place! Lots of parking and indoor/outdoor seating available. They also offer some really yummy food! Merchandise was available for purchase too. The people working were really nice and helpful. I decided to try the Sono Boba milk tea. I did 75% sweet and 50% ice. I really enjoyed it and plan on coming back soon to try the popcorn tofu!

We decided to come Check out this new spot at santan mall. I don't usually drink too much boba since they're usually a little too sweet for me. But this place you can get the drinks less sweetened. Which is a plus ! I got the lychee and mint one and it was very refreshing and I got it half sweetened. We also got the Thai tea and a couple others. It was perfect. We also got the Salt and pepper chicken and it was really good ! The staff's were friendly and had a cute modern look !

Course 2: Spicy Scallop Futomaki/hokkaido scallop / benishoga / chili crisp/ takuan / wasabi mayo. This roll tastes great, scallop tastes fresh and I love the way it was seasoned. Course 3: Ocean Trout Mi-Cuit/ okinawa potato croquette / citrus cream/fried capers / crispy salmon skin. I love the cream and the capers in this dish. The fish is seared. Although not much flavor in the fish itself but because of the sauce, it complements the dish well. Course 4: Dessert - Yuzu Lychee Sorbet/vanilla whisky hojicha granita. Oh my gosh, this is my favorite dish! It was so good and refreshing! The yuzu sorbet was tart and creamy. And the hojicha ice underneath was delicious! I would come back to the restaurant just for this dish and the first dish!

Overall the portions were very generous and the prices weren't bad at all. I got the Hell Fire roll and it definitely lived up to the name. I handle spicy food really well and even for me this thing was extremely spicy. It was almost painfully hot, but honestly I kind of enjoyed the challenge, It was also really good besides just being spicy, so I'd definitely get it again. The inside also had a cool vibe with all the colorful lighting and it wasn't too busy when we went which was nice. Most of our sushi came out almost immediately. The fried rolls understandably took a little longer since they had to be made fresh. My only small complaint is I wish everything would of came out closer to the same time, because some of us already had food while we were still waiting on the fried rolls. Teppanyaki is really more of a show/experience, so the food comes out to you in sections (versus all at once like at a traditional restaurant). The filet was so soft, and was perfectly rare, and the shrimp was so good. I think in the future I'd eat a whole plate of shrimp. I also got to try the yakiniku, and that was also pretty good but very sweet. Their Boo Yah Ka roll was also pretty yummy. It's essentially a spring roll, but with some spice and citrus to it. We had no idea what the female staff member was saying since her words were not in English. She was so loud & screaming in the bar area so the entire restaurant could hear her. A couple of staff members tried to claim her dow. This went on for several minutes. It was crazy. All us customers were silent & just looking at the girl screaming & yelling. The next thing we know, round two. It was unbelievable. What was even crazier was they didn't send the staff member home! No one came over & said a word. No one apologized or said anything. After all of this, they sat couple with us. Finally the chef came to the table. By this time it was 20 til 6:00. Hubby got the filet with fried rice. I got the shrimp with fried rice. The food was good. However, hubby's steak was over cooked. Thankfully, hubby told the chef he wanted to change the steak from medium to medium rare, or it would have been even more over cooked. You'd think summer would be a slower time, but it didn't phase this location or others in this shopping center. When walking in, one of my friend's had already grabbed us a table. This place was packed and we were sat in the back room. I'm glad we were as it was even loud in there. Happy Hour prices are great, but may come right at the start to avoid some of the crowds as the noise level was quite overwhelming at times. What We Ordered (pictured): - Korean Fried Chicken Bao Bun: My friend ordered this, and quickly snapped a photo as I found it an interesting special menu item. He seemed overall pleased, but he was surprised they are served like a taco. He didn't know the difference of bao bun versus xiaolongbao. - Dean Martini (Vodka + Blue Cheese Stuffed Olives): $7.95 on happy hour?! Be rude not to, and surprisingly good! Maybe SKYY Vodka is growing on me, though Belvedere or Double Cross remain my top choices for a dirty vodka martini. - Chuck Norris: $11.95 on happy hour, and I was after a roll with shrimp tempura. The lemon juice was so overpowering that I could only eat two bites, and gave to my friend to try and ultimately take home to her husband. Definitely not ordered again or recommend. - Me Soy Horny: $9.95 on happy hour and allowed me to try soy paper as a way to hold the roll together. After getting over the color as seaweed is just so iconic for a roll, I actually enjoyed the roll overall. I think this roll could be majorly elevated with spicy mayo. Ultimately, the sushi isn't spectacular from the two rolls I tried; but for the prices, I think they are overall good. I'd definitely return again on a weekday at start of happy hour to hopefully avoid the crowds. Even if just grabbing a martini and gambling on a different roll to try.

We were excited to eat at this establishment upon seeing the good reviews. We ordered two drinks: Mowie Wowie & Heated Passion. Both tasted very good. We ordered a good amount of food. Miso Soups + Pork Potstickers, Rolls, and Nigiri. The best ones, without a doubt, included Tropic Thunder & East LA Roll, and Daddy's Tuna Nigiri. There are citrus notes in each of these that almost make it feel like a ceviche. We did have some not so good options and those are: beef nigiri, the smoked salmon (I'll get to that one) and salmon nigiri. Although the nigiri was tasty, the portion of rice on each was too much for my personal taste. Each bite felt overpowered and hid the true flavor of the seafood. I also lost a bit of my appetite when I saw the smoked salmon nigiri, and the black spots. Although it is safe to eat, I would expect back of house to serve a salmon piece as if they were being served themselves. Other than that, my date and I had a good time. We would recommend this business, amidst the hit and misses.
