My 2014 Mustang was getting a little worn so I decided to fix it up starting with the upholstery. I eventually decided on Katzkin brand leather installed by Sonny's Upholstery. I could not have made a better choice with either. Both Sonny and his wife Rhonda helped me pick an appropriate color. They did the front and rear seats. In addition, the Mustang has side airbags in the seat backs so just any old upholstery or seat cover won't do. The upholstery has to allow the air bags to expand where they are supposed to in a collision. The Katzkin product has special seams that allow that and Sonny's installer must perform an additional process with the airbags to assure everything works as it should. Sonny wanted two days to do it but I was called first thing the morning of the second day and told it was done. It looks and feels like a new car now. Leather upholstery is not for everyone as it is very expensive. If you decide on cloth instead, Sonny can do that as well. I can't imagine anyone else doing a better job or better quality than Sonny. If you need new upholstery, go see Sonny. read more

I found that our 2019 GMC Yukon needed some leather seat repair. Not knowing where to start, I went to yelp and searched automotive upholstery shops. I found Sonny's Upholstery had very good reviews and I remembered that Sonny did a more minor repair for us several years ago but at that time he worked out of his home garage. Fast forward several years and Sonny's is working out of their shop in an automotive plaza in Tempe. I met with Adrian who runs the front office. He explained a lot of things about auto upholstery that I had never known or considered. Adrian found the right solution for our problem, ordered the GMC part and kept me informed throughout the process. On installation day Sonny's completed the job completely and correctly with no issues and at a reasonable price. My guys...my guys. Man. The apex of auto upholsterers. Bought a new jeep, with black interior, and was researching options on an interior makeover. One option was to buy the tan interior from the dealer (substantially overpriced) or do what I did on prior cars and go with Katzkin/Alea to build a red aftermarket interior. It took 2 weeks and I had the red interior set in hand. You can also order these from Sonny as he's an authorized retailer. Now, I almost cheaped out and went with a different upholstery shop in central phx (that was charging half of what Sonny was charging) but in the pre-work consultation with them I realized they had absolutely no idea what they were doing. 6 workers huddled up and started examining my red leather kit. I even overheard one of them calling their boss and saying they didn't know how to install the armrest but would "do their best". BOI...I grabbed my kit, RAN straight to Tempe to see Sonny and set up an appointment. These other clowns were going to botch my car up smh. This was a much more complicated job than simply removing and re-installing seat covers. Door panels needed to be removed. Arm rests needed to be essentially reconstructed with foam and all. This job required MAJOR finesse and creativity. I also had ALOT of EXPENSIVE aftermarket audio modifications on my Jeep (Alpine Type R speakers/Rockford Fosgate Power T600-4 speaker amplifier, JL W7 12" subwoofer with prowedge enclosure/ JL 1200/1 subwoofer amplifier, JL Dual amp wiring, etc). Thousands of dollars worth of mods and NONE of these were negatively affected during the install. Sonny's son (Ryan) carefully unplugged and rewired these mods so well that you couldn't even tell it was touched. These guys cost a pretty penny but it is worth it for the quality work. I've had shops in the past do shoddy work (leave things unscrewed, damage panels and use some sort of glue to patch it, etc). Don't risk it. Come here and let a pro do their justice! These guys did so good I had to whip out the pro camera and take some flicks. read more

I wanted to get a rolling mechanic garage chair seat reupholstered I had a hard time finding somebody who wanted to take on the job maybe because it was too small I don't know. This review isn't from someone who got great work done, but rather by someone who didn't. I had an older car and it is in pretty good condition for it's age. When given the prospect of taking my business, after much time spent with me on what I wanted to do, they decided that it wasn't worth doing on the car at this time, as the full kit would have been more than I wanted in terms of price and amount done, and the seats were better off lasting a few more years than doing just a portion now. It is rare that a business is honest enough to recommend not getting anything done, especially if it would be years before you need their service. When the time comes to get new seats when mine has given up, or if there is just another project I want done, I know where I'm going and that is Sonny's. Honesty pays off. read more

Restoring a 74 Challenger and Sonny's helped me out with getting upholstery on one of the seat backs we were having trouble with. I had my Solstice convertible top vandalized. So I did a lot of research on replacing the top, since pontiac is no longer in business I could t get a replacement. So my next option was to find an upholstery shop, and that is when I came across Sonny's. I called first and Sonny himself answered, extremely polite, professional, and helpful. Sonny told me to bring the car right over so he could have a look at it. I arrived about an hour later, where Sonny personally came out of the shop to great me. Again Sonny extremely polite and professionally, explained some possible routes for me to take depending on my budget. He also took the time to confirm that I couldn't get a replacement top. He is not money hungry at all, or tried BSing me. He seemed to want to take care of this issue as much as I did the best way possible. After talking about all the routes we could go I decided to go with a patch. At first I was skeptical about it because that's the last thing I want is to have is this tacky standout patch on my top. But hey if this guy has been straight forward with me I'm sure he'll do a good job. Once started Sonny takes a look and feels the material to the top, then walks into his shop and comes out in about 30 seconds later with an exact match to the top. I was right there with him the entire time while he was applying the patch. It took him about 45 mins to finish up. Let me tell you watching him, Sonny IS ON POINT! His attention to detail is outstanding, Sonny is a true professional! The repair was outstanding, it came out way better than I ever would have imagined! You can't really notice it from the outside unless you take a really good look at it, and nothing is visible from the inside he match it up perfectly!! Overall I am extremely satisfied with the repair. It is extremely rare that the owner of a business is the one to actually take care of you and do such a great job. Sonny only charged $50 for the repair! This really made the best out of this crappy situation. He also told me I shouldn't have any issues with it but if I do to come back and he'll take care of it and I know he will!!! Pretty Epic! read more

Sonny and his team did a fantastic job reupholstering our boat and making a custom boat cover for our 2001 Four Winns. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to have a job done. We have driven across the valley from Goodyear several times, including taking the entire boat on one occasion, for his services. He has a huge selection of colors for marine upholstery and boat covers to choose from. The work is done in a timely manner and very high quality and the Sonny and his team are friendly and professional. The boat cover he made is heavy duty and has held up beautifully to our Arizona sun and monsoon dust storms. It was worth every penny, especially considering you pay $200-400 for a cover of much lower quality through Cabelas or Bass Pro Shop. (Don't get me wrong, I love both stores, but his covers are much nicer and fit much better than what you can purchase at either place.) When we had our sundeck done, we took the boat to him and left it for a few days. However, when we had some of the removable cushions done at a later time, we were able to just take him the cushions, which was very convenient. His shop is hidden away on Southern, but it is definitely a hidden gem! We spent several weeks looking for an upholstery shop in the valley and are so glad we found Sonny's! Parking at his shop is limited, so it is important to have time to drop off and pick up your car or boat set aside, but we were able to schedule it far enough in advance that this wasn't an issue for us.
