I tried Sonny's Breakfast Spot and ordered the fish with cheese grits, sausage, and it came with two biscuits. The fish was actually pretty good, especially with their hot sauce. Unfortunately, the cheese grits had no flavor. Even after adding the salt and pepper packets they gave, it still wasn't enough. I ended up taking them home and adding seasoning salt and extra cheese just to give them some taste. The biscuits were okay, and the honey inside helped. Overall, the fish was the highlight of the meal. But they get a lot of service because people kept coming to pick up their meals. The service wasn't bad. read more

It has been a decade since I've been here and I'm so happy I stopped by today. Customer service: I was greeted immediately upon walking in and informed of the specials going on. I placed my order and had my meal in less than 10 minutes. Food: The food was delicious! I have no complaints. I got 3-- 1/2 breakfast plates with bacon, grits, cheesy eggs, and, a biscuit. It came up to $29 for all 3 plates. The eggs were so fluffy and cheesy. The bacon was cooked perfectly. The grits were very filling. The biscuits were so fluffy, soft, and yummy! I saw a creator post about SONNYS as a place to visit during black history month and since it was so close to me, I went the same day! I arrive around 9am and it was pretty packed. The restaurant is pretty small and take out so there's no sitting areas to eat so most people I noticed were eating in their cars. I ordered a platter with fried fish, hash browns, eggs, chicken wings, and biscuits. I lived in South Carolina for a long time and I have yet to have a traditional southern breakfast like this in the Miami area! This was be first time. I was impressed the biscuits were so good! It came with an apple butter that was so tasty. The chicken, and eggs were well Seasoned too. The catfish was good as well but I did feel like the portion was a bit small. In terms of service, the ladies in the front were nice. I did wait a bit longer for my food, and because of that, they gave me a free sweet tea/lemonade for the delay. Which was nice. They are known for their biscuits, and you can order breakfast in a bunch of different ways. I ordered the 1/2 breakfast and it was very filling, served with 1 egg, 1 biscuit, grits, and 1/2 order of bacon was still 4 slices. After I ordered, I noticed you can get corn beef hash as your meat. I can't wait to come back and try that. Lots of the reviews mention long lines and waits, and I do see where the line forms. Even though it's takeout-only with no seating, they wouldn't let me wait inside with my 5-pound service dog in a secured bag because I didn't have an ID card. My family used to bring us here for breakfast when we were growing up and I used to love it. So naturally, I had to go back as an adult and I was initially grossed out by the inside, they definitely need a make over, but thankfully that didn't stop me because the food is still fire!!! I was really glad to see after 20+ years they've kept the momentum with the breakfast plates, everything was just as good as I remember. I usually order the 1/2 fish breakfast meal which includes scramble eggs (I add cheese), grits, fried fish (swai), a biscuit and a flop to drink. Although the grits can use a little more salt, the fish is seasoned and fried to perfection. The notion that it's cash only in 2019 is not a good look. Look I get the whole businesses pay fees to accept credit card and a percentage of each transaction that you want to avoid. But debit card payments are less expensive than credit cards to process. So at least give that a try. I think In the long run it will balance out with the amount of customers you might be losing by not offering at minimum a debt card, and just cash only. read more
