Went there today with another couple. To call it a bbq restaurant is an insult to pitmasters everywhere! My friends rack of ribs looked great nicely sauced but we're so tough they could not be cut with a steak knife. Mine were not sauced at all and were so overcooked the meat fell off the bone when I picked them up. I also had the smoked wings which were under cooked. On a bright note the Texas toast was good. The menu has been greaty reduced. I will never set foot in another Sonnys if I could rate them a zero I would. read more

This is not the place to go for dry-rubbed ribs. They suck... period. they're basically naked ribs that you add sauce to at your table. The coleslaw was relatively flavorless. If I have to go to Sonny's at least I can get a pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast and be satisfied. Oh and they have excellent sweet tea. Service was decent. read more

Sonny's is the subway of bbq- they don't make anything, they don't cut,slice or dice anything here- they heat stuff up. It comes to them on a truck seasoned,bagged and ready for warming up. This is not American bbq this is heat and serve. Their bbq sauce comes prepackaged. Their dessert pudding comes on the truck they do cut the banana and throw cookies on it for $5. Yep! Once again. I should have looked at reviews. I ordered the Sampler Platter and fried pickles. The fried pickles were hot and greasy. The Sampler Platter came plied high with yesterday's pulled pork 1/4 chicken two three inch ribs and two raw thick with fat pieces of brisket. I asked to have the brisket replaced and the waitress returned a few minutes later with two three inch paper thin pieces. At that point the fried pickles we're doing there job so I was obviously was finished eating. The baked beans tasted like the sauce was made with spaghetti "Os" but. The coleslaw was perfect! Waited in the drive thru for several minutes. No one responded. Drove thru to the window. No one was there. Drove back around to the drive thru and waited again. Then I called. I've always loved Sonny's. I came into town for Christmas and my son and I joined my mom for lunch. I was excited. It smelled amazing. Our server was great but our food was not. Our fries were cold as soon as they got to the table. I don't mean cool I mean cold like they had been sitting for a long time. Our meat, I had the ribs, was amazing. Just kinda disappointed to spend 66 dollars on cold food. read more

We are here for the first time tonight. The server was very good. Although a fingernail sized chipped off piece of bone was in the pulled pork.... Needless to say once the bone was blindly bitten into a tooth was chipped. We showed it to the waitress who then took it to the back. Upon returning she verified that it was a piece of "bone". No manager came out to apologize. No efforts were made to acknowledge the injury etc. I asked to why the manager didn't respond to the upset... the waitress was very cordial and concerned. Still manager, no resolution. We were in town from Spartanburg SC. I blindly picked Sonnys as our choice for dinner. Needless to say we won't be back. Hopefully that is a rare incident. read more

Commerce Covid-19 Central - Sonny's BBQ! Avoid at all costs, we ordered specifying curbside delivery and prepaid. After 20 minutes of waiting outside the restaurant - 7 phone calls - all were answered then hung up. Final phone call - they took the phone off the hook and it rang busy. Went to go inside to pick up - 10-12 people crammed together waiting to be seated, no masks, no mask on the hostess - Nope, went to the drive-in window - again, a cashier with no mask, no plexi guard and no gloves. Manager David runs a really slack crew - hate to see what goes on in the kitchen. They ended up losing our $60 order - so we went elsewhere and will never go back to this one! read more

I stop at this Sonny's BBQ in Commerce on the way back to Atlanta whenever I visit customers in Greenville. Their service is always good, friendly and prompt. Their food is great and tastes fresh. Brandy served my table the last time and was exceptional. I see there are a lot of reviews on this place and a few negative ones seem warranted, but so have never had a bad experience or food here. read more

We charged our Electric Vehicle at the charger next door in the Walmart parking lot - walked over to Sonny's for lunch. Sonny's is, of course, a chain and the food is usually pretty consistent across stores but the service can vary quite a bit. Seated at a sticky table. I ordered the sliced brisket, which says "less fat" than the chopped. It was so full of fat, only about half of it was edible. I even asked the waitress if this was the sliced and was told yes, it was. It was way too fatty, even if you chopped it up. read more

USED TO BE AWESOME - SOON TO BE FORGOTTEN! Been here numerous times over the years - less exciting every time. The semi recent "face lift" - renovation could have been better spent on the low quality food. It has become way to corporate in the past few years and they just plain are not good at what they do anymore. I will not be back as I cannot see any redemption in them. Service is very hit and miss - mngrs quite honestly are the biggest problem Sonny's has - a full force firing from asst mngr up is in order. A retraining of every single dept is in order as well since the employees have been taught so many bad habits. Sonny's needs to get back to basics and start from scratch. I even had a no service experience of 25 minutes a few months back - on a weekday - in the afternoon - never were asked about water / food or nothing. We simply got up and left. I do not think a manager was even on duty - it was very strange. They have completely lost their way except the very narrow focus on nothing but profit. Try focusing on the food and service - the profit will still be there. Y'all wasted a LOT of MONEY on that remodel / face lift. People I talk to say it pretty much sucks. We had never been to Sonnys BBQ Sat at the nice clean Bar and where greeted with a big smile . We both ordered the ribs, bake beans and corn bread. Yummy !!!!! Our food was great but our service was even better ! Our server was Bobby Joe. She was the best !!!! We will be back !!! read more

Warning: If you are seated in a section with the Brit, ask to be moved!! During the entire visit, she was more interested in showcasing the tourist locations of England than attention to other customers. Sunday lunch, and being seated, we ordered our drinks and was ready for ordering the food. Both my mother and I chose a pulled pork BBQ sandwich. We were told there was no pulled pork remaining. So we chose sliced pork while I chose a salad bar as my side. During the wait for the drinks (which came at the same time as the sandwiches} I went to the salad bar to get food. There were no plates and after searching and finding a server was told the plate will be brought to the table. Ummm, I waited, waited, and waited never seeing our British server. When the food arrived, I decided Sonny's was just not my cup of tea. The server NEVER mentioned the plate for the salad until my Mom told her it never came. I advised the brit, don't worry now, I'm finished with my sandwich. Let's not even discuss the $2.90 glass of tea which was NEVER refilled. Upon leaving, I asked for a comment card, only to be told Sorry we don't have any. Stay away from Sonny's unless you want to be dissatisfied!! read more

Two stars but really underwhelming. They were fairly clean and the service was fairly nice, and that's about it. Food is average. Brisket was tender but not much flavor. Barbecue sauce was not as good a store-bought. Onion rings were frozen, Not hand made. Overall, going to Burger King would've been about the same. I do not know how this place became a chain. I guess it the same logic as McDonald's doesn't make the best hamburgers. Had a simple order, a very lean BBQ brisket sandwich and some onion rings. Sandwich came out with slabs of fat, so I sent it back. Sauce was overly vinegary. Not much flavor, the spicy was very mild. I should have be weary when I saw the all you can eat ribs on the menu. Really good places do not have all you can eat. I was tired and in a hurry, so I did not follow the advice of the New Orleans food Nazi to avoid chains, go to the mom and pop hole in the wall places, or places well established. read more

This place is garbage. My family ordered 2 pounds of barbecue, but by the time we got home and opened it up, we saw there was half of the meat we expected. We weighed it to see if it was just our eyes, but yeah... Just over a pound, including the container. No big deal, things happen. We called a fellow and he said no problem, come on back down and we'll get it taken care of. So we did. We drove back there (25 minute drive) only to be told by Marlene, one of the district managers, and frankly, a bitch, that she would not be giving us the other half of our order that we paid for. When we called the fellow back that we had called earlier, David, the one who said it would be a good idea to waste an hour of our time driving down there and back to get our correct food order, he said he can't override Marlene's orders. The "F" word was heard countless times (F you, I got so "F'd" up last night, you are a F b***h, etc). Not a family friendly atmosphere. Got a pulled pork, sliced pork and jalapeño sausage sandwich through the drive through. The meat was pretty good, not the best BBQ you can find but decent for a place that has a quick drive through. Cole slaw was "homemade" but just bland. Overall would probably come back as I did like the sandwich and the fact it's on some type of toasted garlic bread. read more

I got a pulled pork sandwich. The meat was soggy and flavorless. My bun was soggy. The bbq sauces were subpar. I hear the beans are waaay too sweet- although I did not try them myself. My goodness my goodness! SONNYS what have you done!? I had no idea about this restaurant. Never heard anyone mention eating here, but my goodness. It is now my personal mission in life to spread the word about this restaurant! It was actually being catered in by our company for us participants in orientation. We were told lunch would be provided to us but my Lord! Let's just say I wasn't ready! Those BBQ ribs fell off the bone and melted in my mouth. I had the option of choosing between 3 different sauces, grilled BBQ chicken. The mac and cheese was on point! The potatoe salad was yummy. The sweet tea was great! Is there anything that you can't cook? SONNYS keep doing what your doing. The best ribs i've had since I moved to Georgia in 2001. Date night for us is more of a Sunday lunch. We saw An advertisement for Sonny's and found the restaurant next to WallMart. The service was good and the food was served is a reasonable amount of time. There has been some management change that the waitress seemed less than thrilled about. There was something to do with the waitresses having cash out their own tables. It was an odd thing for her to share. Family eating experience for sure. We ordered a Sampler to share. It was good with a variety of sauces. My wife, a beef lover, said the chicken was the best item. The serving size was great. The menu was beautiful. Lots of yummy things to choose from. In town working and decided to give this a try for dinner, based on the reviews, I was hoping for good, but not expecting great. Greeted and sat quickly. Very open dining room with very basic decor, kind of lacking personality in terms of the atmosphere. Our server stopped by and took a drink order right away, since we were carded for drinks the server knew were were not from the area. This was a missed service opportunity to ask if we had been there before and make suggestions. The menu is confusing in that it says meals are served with specific sides, but the server told us to pick what sides we wanted. Food came quickly and the general consensus was it was ok, but nothing special. Pulled pork had nice flavor, but so much fat left, that it almost felt like the actual meat portion was small. Ribs and wings were decent and the sauces good. Mac and cheese, coleslaw, and potato salad were very generic. Cornbread was a very sweet muffin. Just nothing about the experience that actually stood out, probably wouldn't be back if in the area again. read more

I stopped to get a little bbq and a small salad for lunch. I haven't been to Sonny's in a while. Prices have definitely jumped. Not a great option for a small appetite. But I saw on the menu a bbq salad for about $8. Picture of a salad with a heap of pulled pork bbq on top. It looked good and would satisfy both cravings. So I order the "BBQ" salad. A couple of minutes later the waitress returns and asks "would you like BBQ on that salad"? What!?! Do I want "BBQ" on my "BBQ" salad???? Really!?! I asked to see the menu again and it is misleading. The menu describes the "BBQ" salad as having a drizzle of "BBQ" sauce and if you want meat it's another $3 or so. I almost left but canceled my order and got something else just on principal. They need to rethink their "BBQ" salad. read more

I really like the interior of this restaurant. Our waitress was awesome - working to get me the meal I wanted. The prices are very steep. I ordered the baby back ribs because they were supposed to be very tender. They were saturated in bbq sauce and still very dry. I also got the salad bar, which was very basic.
