Ambiance - The harsh LED white lights against the black booths and pony walls give Sonny's the atmosphere of a bus station bathroom. Warmth of yesteryear is gone and in its place is stark, cold dullness that is equally matcheby the thermostat setting. Also the lighting greatly diminished the appearance of my food; pork looks gray.

We had a family lunch today and it was perfect! Food was delicious and service was great. Loved how fun the staff was with several of the large parties!!!!

After driving most of the day, we cleared Atlanta and decided it was time for a break. We saw signs for Sonny's BBQ and the thought some finger licking ribs sounded like a winner. Unfortunately, it didn't quite work out that way. Sonny's definitely gets 5 stars for friendless and 5 stars for cleanliness. Unfortunately, the star of this show was not the food. We shared a Sonny's Sampler platter. It was loaded down with sliced pork, brisket, 1/4 chicken (all white meat), 2 ribs, slaw, beans AND garlic bread. Once again, the star was not the BBQ, it was the bread. While the chicken was moist, it was not juicy. The rest of the meat, including the ribs, was extremely dry although the sweet and savory sauce did help a bit. The BBQ beans were good at first but became cloyingly sweet as we ate. The homemade slaw was perhaps the biggest disappointment. It was barely dressed - it didn't taste like much more than a bowl of chopped cabbage. Only because we shared, Sonny's didn't break the bank for us - our check was under $22 and we still have enough meat left over for a sandwich tomorrow. Luckily we didn't have to drive too far off the interstate to find Sonny's - we'll definitely drive on by on our way home.

So this is chain BBQ... not bad but not great. We had a Sonny's on our way to the beach that we liked but it had closed years ago so we thought why not. We stopped here on our way to Asheville and it was packed. We only waited a minute and the server came immediately to the table. The sauces are good but the meat lacks the smoked flavor BBQ should have. I should have listened to Rodney Scott- he says if you can't see and small smoke then you shouldn't eat there. I will listen to the great pit master next time.

I hate giving low reviews. But this experience all around was poor. We waited at hostess stand for several minutes as employees walked by and did not even acknowledge us. There were 4 other groups of people waiting too. This should have been our sign to go. We were seated and able to order our drinks and food quickly. The size of the appetizer was much smaller than previous visits. They did not have Mac and cheese and didn't offer to sub out. Then it was left on my bill. The meat was so greasy that my daughter wasn't even able to each her very grissley brisket sandwich. The service was not bad but also not good either. We used to love Sonny's but this experience was a let down.

The drink packed a good little punch and was pretty good. The portions of food were nice and the bartender was pretty cool. The prices tho are steep for what you are asking for. The flavor was a little on the bland side for me . I was really looking forward to more robust flavor.

Large cobb salad and pulled pork.

Big cobb salad with pulled pork and bacon is probably the best salad I've ever had. And the smoky ranch dressing was delicious. Always great food at every Sonny's I have been to.

I was curious because Yelp reviews are a mixed bag and I think that is right. We went in and found that all the cops in the area were eating lunch, like more than six tables worth. They looked like they were enjoying lunch so that's awesome. The place is a big open room, as dining rooms are, and seemed noisy. It really quieted down when the table of three next to us left. I guess they were really loud. We ordered some fried pickles to start. They were fine with the ranch, just seemed like standard frozen. I had the brisket plate which comes with three sides. I chose fries, beans, and stew. First thing I noticed was it came with two slices of white bread which is old school legit. The brisket was a good sized portion which was tender and tasty. It had au jus on it which is unusual for BBQ but it was good. Fries were standard with a light batter and delivered crispy. The beans seemed plain out of a can with some onions and were bland. I know that there are a billion kinds of stew and stew is a religion but this one is not for me. I did not like the spice blend, but you know at least it had spices and was not bland. Just not for me. Megan had the pork sandwich. The pork was good. the also had roasted potatoes which were the kind in the can (which I love) roasted in some spices. Megan did not care for the beans. The summary here is we liked the meats, the sides not so much. I would like to try this place on a Sunday when they have fried chicken.

So portion to cost to value, you're getting a good deal in this economy--- especially all the way out here; this is like what Palm Dale would be to Orange Country California. Ordered the soon Dobu, beef, it came with 4 sides of Banchan which aside from the soybean kimchi, were all pretty mediocre. Ordered a LA Kalbi, a little on the sweeter side, but not complaining, it was charred, crispy and well marinated. I downed everything in a matter of minutes. So, I was trapped in my big rig for 30+ hours the previous two days whilst getting screwed over by my broker delivering a load to Ahold Delhaize in South Carolina. **Never Again :) . ADUSA is the worse grocery foods company and publicly listed company in Europe...period. I left them a one star on Google. Good. Got that off my chest. As I was saying, dropped in here after spending the morning fixing my rig. And as a reward for getting my supply air hose back in running shape. I found this hole in the wall in Commerce Georgia. There was no one here, except me myself and I. And being the curious me, I started chatting with the female manager who turned out to speak Mandrin. It turns out in the recent slew of events this restaurant is located in close proximity to Korean Giant, SK Batteries. Yes... that company that partnered with the other giant which was raided by the likes of ICE in the recent anti immigration crackdown. No wonder there was no one here ...All the Koreans vanished. Bummer. All in all, the truck stop next door is pretty blessed to be located in such a prime location with food offerings other than burgers. So I vow the next time I truck through here, I will come back and order their Kimchi Pancakes and Kimchi Fries Rice..and maybe their spicy Teobukki..however way you spell that word.

The sandwiches were dripping on our laps like a soup. We had to use copious paper towels. You couldn't even eat the sandwich because the meat was sliding off onto our paper plates. Chips that I ordered were not in the bag. I wanted to call them to ask Firehouse to put condiments on the side since they apparently don't know how to make sandwiches properly. Door Dash doesn't offer the same food that Firehouse has on their menu, so that was super challenging when employees order sandwiches or salads that don't exist on Door Dash site. Was trying to call Firehouse to let them know that for the 2nd shift delivery, I needed sandwich names on the boxes explaining what sandwich was in which box. We had to open boxes and try to decipher what sandwich was what. Door Dash doesn't allow you to make comments. Firehouse doesn't deliver from that location. I imagine they will not be in business for long, at least with that franchise manager. I work for a Fortune 14 company that could spend tons of money at their establishment, but after dealing with their sloppiness, inattentiveness, unprofessional, rude behavior, I promise you we will never use these idiots again.
