This place is such a treat. And I know, brisket, ribs, or pork is usually going to be the star of the show, but while those are all top-notch, do not sleep on their smoked chicken leg quarters! They are as good as anything that has ever come off of a smoker. Seriously! Their baked beans are unique, all the sides are good, coleslaw could use a little more zing, but that's their style. When the meat is pink , you know it's about to be damn good bbq . The brisket was smoked well also . Tea was fresh. Sauces were great . The only thing I can say should change is the coleslaw . I'm still giving 5 stars because not a lot of people get the meat right . That's what matters . read more

This is a fun little place to eat at on a nice day because of the outdoor seating. I always get the pulled pork plate which is always tasty. I'm not a coleslaw fan so I opt for the beans. This bbq is pretty good. Lean meat and fast service. They are friendly and efficient. It's such a quaint setting so if the weather is nice, plan to sit on the lawn at the picnic tables. Food is spot on! Great deal that's always fresh! My timing seems to always be off though. If you come too late in the day the ribs are gone! Did I mention fresh? Not my favorite BBQ around but the PLANTATION BEANS ARE AMAZING!!!! When I went the BBQ was saucy and kind of like a crock pot BBQ the ribs were tough and completely dried out. It may have been when I went, a work day late afternoon, but I still paid full price. read more

I had the pork BBQ sliders, it was ok. It's a typical bland pork BBQ joint with outside seating. I guess I'm too hard on BBQ spots that make pulled pork their main draw but I honestly don't think that it takes a lot of talent to cook pork BBQ. It's not like perfecting ribs or brisket. Iron Pig BBQ - Pork bbq sandwich, stew, chips and a coke... $10 - Barbeque Near Me - Jefferson, Georgia

Sometimes the Barbecue Gods work in strange and wondrous ways.... Take finding the Iron Pig on a back street in Jefferson, Georgia (an hour north of Atlanta off I-85) for instance.,.. Most folks would have driven right by... nothing more than a little shack with some picnic tables out front, bounded by a car wash on one side and a flea market across the street. Most folks, but not barbecue lovers... next to a shack with bars on the windows in the worst part of town, they'd know this place had the potential of providing some good 'cue. And they'd be right. Dished up styrofoam pates, this was some of the best barbecue (check out our reviews of other barbecue across the country) that had been enjoyed in weeks. Slow hickory smoked in a train engine smoker, the pulled pork was moist, and with just enough good hickory flavor that you knew it was the real thing. The ribs, babybacks, had a nice char, a deep red ring (always proof positive they've been smoked and not baked or par boiled) and a great flavor. The Iron Pig folks offer three sauces: a unique "mild" tomato based sauce (our favorite), as well as a mild vinegar and then one labeled "hot" that was very. The pulled pork plate, two sides, plus chips and a generous service of meat, were reasonably priced at eight bucks, the half rack of ribs, including a couple sides and chips, was $12. Personally, with the sides (more in a minute) the chips were unnecessary. The IP's Brunswick Stew is good, very good. Reminded this long time fan a lot of the late Harold's Barbecue down by the prison in Atlanta. But the best side of all was something called "Plantation Beans...." consisting of three different kinds of beans, chunks of bacon and browned ground beef. Don't usually care for baked beans and such, but their speciality would have been worth the drive in and of itself. The slaw was slaw, nothing too good or bad. Turns out the folks behind the Iron Pig are a young couple, Hunter and Farrah Ganner and they'd been planted out there 15 minutes off the highway for close to as half dozen years - with a smoker they bought off eBay - and some truly exceptionally good barbecue at better than decent prices. And you get to sit outside and eat at a picnic table... sometimes the Barbecue Gods work in strange and wondrous ways. read more

BBQ doesn't need to be fancy... just good! Have been several times and the quality is consistent and the service is always friendly. Great local BBQ with friendly staff that reminds you of family! Love this place. Do yourself a favor and order the family meal with slaw and beans... absolutely the best BBQ beans ever! I have been here twice now and it is time for my review. I must say that I have to disagree with the other reviewers. They are obviously in to really dry, nearly tasteless bbq and slaw. Now, I will admit their sauces are very good. But try some of their meat without the sauce. Have a glass of water handy and perhaps an adult nearby who is skilled in performing the Heimlich maneuver because you may need it.......it is that dry. The slaw is tasteless and the meat doesn't have much more taste. The only thing that I find to be really good here, in fact excellent, is the Brunswick stew. I give that 5 stars and the BBQ sauce 4.5 stars. But the meat and slaw is definitely just one star. Also noteworthy, I purchased a family special. It was like $28. It was definitely not worth the price to get the most dry meat I have ever had. Sauce only makes up for so much and bland slaw does absolutely nothing for me. And what really irritated me was they gave me a gallon of tea that was WAY rancid. I mean you could smell the sour tea the second you broke the seal on the gallon jug. My level of irritation was off the charts because I live far away form this place so I could not take it back. I may come back and give them one more try. However, at this point, I have to classify this as the most overrated BBQ I have ever had. The Brunswick Stew was the only thing worthy. If you check out my review's of Jack's Old South you will see how critical I was of those guys. Even so, their bbq pork is leaps and bounds better than Iron Pig's. To sum up this review- Iron pig is very overrated. I only gave it a second star due to the Brunswick Stew. read more
