We have driven past this place many times but usually we wait until Athens for lunch. Today we noticed that they were open so we gave it a try. I was curious because Yelp reviews are a mixed bag and I think that is right. We went in and found that all the cops in the area were eating lunch, like more than six tables worth. They looked like they were enjoying lunch so that's awesome. The place is a big open room, as dining rooms are, and seemed noisy. It really quieted down when the table of three next to us left. I guess they were really loud. We ordered some fried pickles to start. They were fine with the ranch, just seemed like standard frozen. I had the brisket plate which comes with three sides. I chose fries, beans, and stew. First thing I noticed was it came with two slices of white bread which is old school legit. The brisket was a good sized portion which was tender and tasty. It had au jus on it which is unusual for BBQ but it was good. Fries were standard with a light batter and delivered crispy. The beans seemed plain out of a can with some onions and were bland. I know that there are a billion kinds of stew and stew is a religion but this one is not for me. I did not like the spice blend, but you know at least it had spices and was not bland. Just not for me. Megan had the pork sandwich. The pork was good. the also had roasted potatoes which were the kind in the can (which I love) roasted in some spices. Megan did not care for the beans. I visited Cabin Creek BBQ for the first time the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Cabin Creek BBQ has limited hours and is even more limited during the Holidays, so I highly recommend that if you are driving a long way to visit, call ahead of time. I chose to visit Cabin Creek BBQ because I did not want to drive to Athens or Commerce for a decent meal on a Sunday after church. Cabin Creek BBQ gets very full, and there was a long wait time to dine in. My party and I did not wait for a table; we chose to take our plates to go. On Sundays, Cabin Creek BBQ does not have BBQ but rather a fried chicken and Ham buffet line with the best side dishes. It took over 20 minutes to go through the buffet line, which was worth it. I highly enjoyed all the options, and when I tasted all the food, it tasted like home. Their prices are affordable. They accept credit cards, and I was happy to enjoy kind customer service. This Sunday all-you-can eat buffet recommended by a friend has lots of tasty southern comfort foods in a country-casual atmosphere. Food. 4/5 The southern fried chicken and ham were the meats of the day -and they were very good. (Meats vary each Sunday-menu is posted on their Facebook page)- waitress said sometimes it could be fish or shrimp). ALL of the 15 possible sides we tasted were excellent! I liked the potato salad, slaw, broccoli salad. The sweet potato casserole was soooo good. There were also corn, beans, brats, mashed potatoes, cabbage, and fried okra (one of my favorites) and more. 3 kinds of rolls. Dessert and (non-alcoholic) beverages are included in the price-I think there we're about a dozen dessert choices. My family liked the chocolate pie and coconut pie. My strawberry cobbler was as not as good. Nearby diners were raving about the banana pudding, so next time I'm going to try it. They told us that the restaurant is not an all-you-can-eat buffet on Fridays and Saturdays. On those days it's a table service BBQ restaurant, with meals ordered from a menu. You go through a line along the buffet, choosing from many dishes. The line moves pretty quickly considering how many people are being served-and it looked like most folks went back a second time. The waitresses bring your beverages and your dessert. Pay at the door as you leave. Facility 3/5 Comfortable, a little noisy -there is plenty of parking on the grass and gravel parking lot-and they need it because lots of folks come for lunch on Sunday. Location 4/5 It's about 20 minutes outside of Athens, but worth the drive. You might miss the signs and the turn off the main road if you aren't watching closely. It is not cheaper to pay an employee wages to count cash and make a deposit in person at the bank than it is to pay credit card processing. Went shopping at the outlets and took a trip down the road for some lunch. We parked and smelled the smoke in the air. We both ordered brisket sandwiches that came with 2 sides. We each had the Brunswick stew and roasted potatoes. The potatoes were little bites of heaven and the stew was tangy and meaty The brisket had a nice pull to it and the sauces complemented the meat not overwhelm it The peach cobbler was great according to my friend. If you like sodium overload, then this is the place for you. The slaw and the stew are loaded with salt. In the wintertime, they make chicken mull. it was very good the first time I bought it, but since then it is so salty, it is inedible. Please, please cut out the salt! People can add it at the tabel, but for those of us who have to watch the salt they consume, please stop it. The pork is the best around, and I would love to be able to add the sides. read more

Foodies are not afraid to travel to the ends of the earth for the best food, and in this case, it's good ole Southern BBQ. Okay, so it's not THAT far away, but I don't really know what else is out in these [here] parts. I had the [pork] rib plate with brunswick stew, roasted potatoes, and mac & cheese. The ribs were tender and required no additional sauce to make it any better. The roasted potatoes were addicting and my only gripe is that they don't give you more. The mac & cheese was a little on the bland side, but nothing a little pepper couldn't fix. For the amount of food you get, you can't beat the price. My $12 plate could have easily costed $20 elsewhere. Ask for the brisket sauce. It doesn't matter if you ordered brisket, catfish, potatoes, or anything else. The creamy, tangy, spicy sauce goes with everything.. and will change your life. For real. If you don't gain anything else from my review, heed my advice and save room for dessert. They have an out-of-this-world banana pudding. Other dessert options not as readily available - peach cobbler and German chocolate cake, which I heard were pretty stellar, as well. We had half of the restaurant reserved, so if you come with a large party, just call ahead and they'll take care of you. Also, try to come early, as this place gets quite busy later on in the evening. The restaurant is easy to find and the cute, Southern girls are just the sweetest. Charming and quaint BBQ restaurant that is an excellent alternative to all of the typical chain fare found closer to the "I-85"--Commerce-Tanger Outlets interstate exchange... If you are in that area, do yourself a favor and head east for about 15 minutes or so and you will come across Cabin Creek BBQ... We tried the smoked chicken and pull pork sandwich plates on a recent Saturday lunch and both were excellent. The sides here taste like real Southern home cooking... great mac and cheese and excellent cole slaw that had a great consistency and was not too sweet nor bland (I hope it's 'home-made' because it seems too good for 'store-bought' or sysco). The brunswick stew was outstanding as well and didn't reach of Veg-All like so many do (ahem, dreamland bbq, ahem) The portions may seem small but you don't leave hungry. Service was very hospitable. We have been driving by this place and each time I comment we need to try the barbecue. Finally able to give it a try for lunch. They are located just outside Nicholson on the way to Commerce. Both the outside and once you go in scream barbecue joint. Staff was very friendly and the service great. I had the pulled pork sandwich, with baked beans and brunswick stew. My wife had the brisket sandwich, with cole slaw and the stew. Your sandwich comes with two sides. The sandwiches were quite tasty with the mild sauce. The sides were good. I rate a barbecue place by its stew. Theirs is finely ground up and thick. It was missing some of the smoked meat taste that I enjoy. It was pretty middle of the road. I added some mild sauce to help with the flavor. This is the reason for four stars. My wife got the banana pudding to go. We ate it in the car later. Very good. I want to now try their Sunday buffet. They rotate the meats on the buffet and post on their sign out front what the meat is that Sunday. read more

I have taken a few wrong turns on the BBQ Highway recently thanks to Yelp and the old GPS. Today this old blind hog scored a prize barbecue acorn today. It took three plates to deliver my sampler platter of goodness and it was delivered by a superstar server named Courtney. Greeted with a smile and welcoming atmosphere I started with high hopes. It literally took three plates to deliver my sampler platter. Three meats - pork, brisket & half a chicken. Four sides - fries, slaw, beans & heavenly Brunswick stew. Perfectly complemented by two simple slices of lite bread and a sweet glass of iced tea. It was all good good good. The chicken took the gold but pork and brisket wore the silver and bronze with pride. Meanwhile the Brunswick stew - 3rd generation recipe - was so good the other sides were honored just to be on the same plate. Mild, Hot & Vinegar sauces. Hot was perfectly paired with the brisket. The vinegar loved the pork butt just right. The chicken was so nice it didn't need a saucy friend. Desserts looked good but I didn't have a spot left to squeeze any in me. I'll have to come back. By far, Cabin Creek serves the BEST TEXAS STYLE Brisket in Georgia and I am happy to announce that I finally found my Brisket home! As for the rest of Cabin Creek BBQ servings, I'll easily award TOP honors for their succulent and lean pulled pork; their delectable and perfectly smoked ribs (note: the sauce on the ribs has some heat to it and may be too hot for some); their home style fresh sides (ALL GREAT); the decidedly Southern Nanner Puddin (served warm and topped with meringue) and the fantastic Southern (non-chunky veggie) Brunswick Stew! Cabin Creek is a VERY solid 4.875 on my BBQ scale and only misses the full five star treatment for being pricey in their BBQ and side offerings (single bill came to $26.00 [minus tip] for three meat, three side choice, drink and desert). I was greeted when I came in and was guided to a table and given a menu. I decided on a brisket sandwich, baked beans, and Brunswick stew. Had a glass of water with lemon slices. The brisket sandwich was excellent and their sauces were very good too. basically there was a spicy, a mild and a vinegar based. I liked the vinegar based the best. Overall it was a very good meal . total price with tax was just under $9. of course I added a tip for the excellent service. The waitresses were extremely friendly and helpful. I'd highly recommend the trip to Nicholson on Friday Saturday or Sunday..... the days that they are open. read more

Pork is pulled (instead of chopped), juicy, and delicious. The ribs were tender and yummy. Excellent brisket as well, esp with the creamy sauce that accompanies it. The sides were tasty, although I do prefer a less-salty coleslaw. This was a little disappointing, as I really like a sweet-ish coleslaw to balance out the smokiness of the BBQ. The Brunswick stew is very good, with the flavor and consistency of hash. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will be back. read more

I've also gone with some "hardcore southerners" and they said that they were impressed with the food. Food: All of the entree's are great (ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken, brisket, to name a few), but I have to say the ribs are why my friends and I usually go. Sides are delicious. I'd recommend the Brunswick stew and Mac and Cheese over the rest. Portion size is large, as you should leave with your hunger gone (and maybe your belt loosened). I've been known to drive way out of the way for some good barbecue, and this place definitely warrants the 20 minute drive from Athens. They serve up the standard barbecue favorites: pork, brisket and ribs, with a choice between 2 sauces, one a sweet and tangy thick-ish sauce, the other a hot, vinegar based type. The meat has great smoky flavor on its own, but the sauces are definitely worth a try. Side options are equally satisfying. Amazing coleslaw: slightly sweet, chopped, colorful. Baked beans with plenty of meat in them. A few more standards- corn, green beans...all of which totally hit the mark. While the barbecue has become some of my favorite in the area, what really gets me out to Cabin Creek is the Sunday buffet. It's becoming somewhat of a tradition for the boyfriend and I to head out here on Sunday mornings and fill our bellies with roasts, casseroles, veggies, cornbread, and marinated salads. They have a huge rotating spread of cold salads, hot veggies, and carved meats that-- and I really don't say this often-- taste just like grandma made them (or my grandma anyhow, and that's high praise). My Sunday favorites are the roast beef, greens, carrot salad, broccoli casserole, and any dessert (banana pudding, anyone?).
