When I travel this great country, my first search is always for great BBQ. Reviews looked great on this place, so I enjoyed a nice evening stroll my hotel. Before I even start with the food, let me just say that the ladies working the counter were as friendly and polite and welcoming as you'll find anywhere!! Just so nice!! I ordered the sampler platter so I could taste all their meats, and for my 2 sides collard greens (incredible!) and Mac & Cheese (delicious!). From the meats, the pulled pork was my favorite, followed closely by the ribs. Chicken and sausage were good as well. Also - the hot BBQ and Sweet BBQ sauces were very tasty and unique. But again - what made the food taste even better was the INCREDIBLE ladies who welcomed me in. I always get the ribs plate with collards and mac n cheese as my sides. It hits the spot every time. You won't leave hungry, I can tell you that. Season is a slow season but there wasn't a soul in the place but about 4-6 staff. Let start with the good. The banana pudding was good and their original sauce was tasty. Ordered several pull pork sandwiches. The sandwiches were very small almost slider size. The pork had no taste like it was boiled. It did not taste like smoke or any rub. The yams were good but looked old in color. The beans were so so. Also had the potato salad. That was so so. The Mac and cheese was a mess of overcooked noodles that had been sitting and congealed. Had a sour flavor and could not figure out the flavor. Had to throw them out. The bill was over 40.00 but definitely not worth it. Small sandwiches and no flavor. Not sure I would come back. I just recently got takeout from this restaurant. I've had their food before and it was ok. I was craving ribs so I decided to try them one more time. First, I dunno if they look at yelp but if they do can they explain to me how they cook their ribs? Because the ribs I got weren't smoked, dry, and just didn't look appetizing. BJ is the man! He hooked us up with ribs, pulled pig, pulled chicken, collards, and bomb coleslaw and banana pudding. The ribs were meaty, just enough smoke, and not over cooked. The pulled pork and chicken were very good. The greens were sweet, vinegary, with a little heat. The coleslaw was a group favorite and of course the banana pudding was off the chain. Great local barbecue spot downtown. They have a couple of tables inside for seating, but my first experience was ordering catering for a baby shower. Chef BJ was easy to communicate with and helped me figure out exactly what I needed for the group that I was serving. Pulled pork was a HIT! So juicy and flavorful that it didn't even require sauce. I also ordered pulled chicken, slider bun packs, and 2 bottles of sauce (they came in condiment bottles - perfect for a crowd). Pretty sure you're able to ask for white meat only for the pulled chicken too, but obviously that will be less flavorful. The mac n' cheese was the other big crowd pleaser. My son and I went to Athens for All-State Orchestra. Stopped by for dinner on Thursday night at 6:15 and there were just a few customers at that time. I ordered the chicken plate and my son ordered the pork plate. My chicken was OK. I tasted the pork plate and I should've ordered that instead. Price and portion size was not bad. The green beans, collard greens, ribs, cole slaw, and pulled pork were OUTRAGEOUS, and the only thing that I wasn't bowled over on was that the chopped chicken was on the dry side and really benefited from a heavy squirt of sauce. (Nice that they have several varieties of sauces to try; not just one sticky dark sweet one like some places offer.)
