Small establishment with minimal parking. They do have a makeshift enclosed dining room. Never seen them busy and after trying the food I think I know why. People rave about the brisket but it tasted watery to me and lacked flavor. The BBQ sauce made it edible in my opinion. Of the $20 (drink not included) brisket plate I ordered, the brisket was all I finished. The sides I got were atrocious and should not be ordered. I think Tamez has the best BBQ in town and I've recently learned they're really good humans too! I had them cater a party and when they made a tragic mistake on my order - forgot the brisket....the chef owner, without hesitation, gave me a ton of shredded pork for FREE! When I offered to pay for the pork, he politely declined and said it was the least he could do. While I was looking forward to having the brisket, the pork fed my 70+ guests and no one went hungry. This place is awesome! Definitely worth it. Tamez is a great addition to bbq in Athens, and probably my new favorite. I ordered online and got the sampler combo with greens and chips. The ribs were the star of the show for me! The rub they use was so flavorful. The brisket was a close second, and the pork was also incredible. Everything was tender and delicious! Plus the portions are appropriate for a bbq joint, meaning I was so full I couldn't eat the rest of the day haha. I liked the sweet sauce more than the tangy, which just seemed like Tabasco mixed with a bbq sauce. The greens were underwhelming for sure. I'm hoping the come out with more sides soon! So I have gone to Tamez at least once a month since they opened last year at the end of October. The bbq meat is on point. Their bbq is more about the smoke and meat being cooked properly than spices, and I appreciate that simplicity. The sides are great, one of the better collars green options in town besides dawg gone bbq. Reason why I have visited them so often is that they have a one weekly special (brisket chili, pulled pork pozole, smoked cauliflower) all have been excellent. Now with the breakfast burrito option for winter as with fresh flour tortillas to buy in bulk, it is very hard not to visit everyday and kill my bank account. Pulled Pork: A++ Juicy, not overly seasoned, pulled correctly (yes, that's a thing), wonderfully smoked with the perfect amount of smoke. Ribs: B+ I'm not the biggest fave of spare ribs. These were killer. Could have used a bit more salt but that's just personal preference. Collards: A Perfectly cooked, just needed a tad more seasoning. Pinto beans: A Wonderfully cooked. My 2 year old ate them all. Potato salad: A++ THANK CHRIST IT WAS BEAUTIFUL TEXAS POTATO SALAD. Not too much sauce. Wonderfully seasoned. Potatoes were perfectly cooked.
