We tried their new summer menu items. The street corn dip was pretty good. The chips were fresh and crunchy. I wish the street corn was a little creamed maybe? It was a little awkward to dip into just corn kernels essentially. The summer brisket bowl was really good. I enjoyed the flavor combos. The pickled onions gave it a nice tang. The rice was good, and the brisket was tender. The bbq sauce was tangy and good. The pulled pork big deal meal is a classic. Very good. We also had a coupon for free cherry cobbler egg rolls. These were super good. Not overly sweet like I thought they would be. read more

2nd Time we visited this location. VERY GOOD FOOD. Got different items both times. Service Great. Clean Place Only one thing. Fries need to be hot and fresh. Simplest thing on the menu should stand with the rest. GREAT BRISKET We will be going back read more

So sad. I've been a customer of Sonny BBQ for years. Eaten at many of them all over Orlando. I usually come in at Happy Hour after work. I'm a regular at the Sanford location and became like family. This one in Apopka isn't the same. It appears all they care about is money. Tried it Three times just to give them a chance. 1st time... I was over charged. Expect the bill to be around $30, it was $50. Second time it was even more. Third time about $50. For a single person that isn't worth it. Never going back. The food is great. The cost is no longer a value at this location. And when I complained, the server just waived the shift manager over to listen and the he hovered waiting to make sure I was paying. Just a disgrace. Bye bye Sonny B. read more

I've always loved Sonny's BBQ. This was my first time at this location and the first time I went in a while. I tried the new Sonny's Cuban and it was delicious! My husband order d the 3 meat and two sides meal which was also very good. The waitress was very kind and the service was quick as usual. The place was clean except for the bathroom, unfortunately, the women's restroom was in much need of assistance. Overall, loved it and I'll be back. read more

Two stars for the new menu. It is so much smaller and they took away the only thing I loved here were the bowls. When I asked our server she said that was such a popular menu item, she didn't understand why they took it off. The menu actually looks more like they're focusing on catering and not individual customers. We won't be back. read more

I had left this location before the end of last year, unhappy with being overcharged. Consequently, the last time hubby suggested returning, I objected. However, the more I thought about the situation, the more I decided that it was unfair of me to accept the server's explanation, which made no sense. She accepted no responsibility and explained simply, "That's just the way the cash register rings it up. In the past, there was only a $4 charge to add a side and beverage to a sandwich order instead of charging separately for a side and a beverage. Since I had kept the receipt in my purse, I decided I should at least ask the manager if that was the usual policy or what was intended. He listened and was very kind, totally removing the oversight beyond my greatest hopes. His attitude made me glad that we had returned and encouraged others to come, too. We were so late that most of the senior bowlers had finished lunch and left; only 4 remained, so the 5 of us sat at a different table, since there were only 2 seats remaining. We were hungry when the food arrived and certainly enjoyed our selections. I inquired if my free dessert listed on the app could be given to the person celebrating her birthday today, and that was acceptable. Two choices were mentioned, and I deferred to the birthday member of our group. She liked it, though she told her mom that her baked recipe was better. All 5 of us left, full and happy with the entire experience. read more

This Sonny's location is the best! The service is always great, the food comes out quick and refills without asking, you can even get a drink to go! They have a dedicated drive thru and takeout area at the front, in addition to the large dining room. You can always smell the delicious meats smoking fresh when you drive up. I love their baby back ribs! Literally some of the best around. My husband and I usually share a full rack of baby back ribs, and a few sides and breads. I love their baked beans and surprisingly their broccoli is fantastic, cooked perfectly with a good amount of seasoning, not just boiled mush. I really like their house BBQ sauce, but they also have a sweet, spicy or smoky option and all really good. Definitely the best Sonny's around, I cant wait for the next rib night! read more

Great BBQ at the Apopka location. The food is delicious, moist and not dried out. I used to come here all the time. Since the renovation, they went more upscale ( they are chasing 4Rivers) -- prices are high and portions are small. It's very poor value for money now. I sometimes drop in every 8mths or so and it's just dead. Prices higher every time and the menu is more limited. Miss the old Sonny's. $14 for a solo micro bbq chicken sandwich???? It used to be $8 and came with a drink. Btw, the hosting staff was extremely unfriendly as well. read more

I usually love coming to Sonny's BBQ, and for the most part, the staff is kind and welcoming. That's why this is so frustrating to write. Lately, I've noticed that every time I come in, if I get a certain waitress, the experience completely changes. I don't remember her exact name possibly Kimberly or Brittany but she's a tall, heavy-set woman who always wears her hair pulled back in a tight bun. She is consistently very rude, short, and acts like she doesn't want to be there at all. During my last visit, we asked about the salads because the portions have gotten noticeably smaller. Her response was, "That's how I make them. I train the staff that's what we're supposed to be doing." When I asked if that meant giving customers less food, she became visibly irritated, walked away, and completely dismissed us. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the only issue. There is also another waitress Hispanic who, every time I come in, feels comfortable being disrespectful and calling customers nicknames as if she knows them personally. It comes off as unprofessional and uncomfortable. It's disappointing because I truly enjoy this restaurant and most of the team is great, but these repeated experiences make me hesitant to return. I really hope management addresses this, because service like that can easily drive loyal customers away. read more

I went here the other day came in through drive thru and ordered for a family of 6 and the dark skinned slick back hair lady was rude and seemed annoyed we ordered different drinks she came back and said they didn't have them so she did all the drinks strawberry lemonade didnt even ask offer us which drinks we'd pefer Instead. Not only that but then she said we're about to close so they didn't have Mac n cheese so if I wanted to replace all the meals with bbq beans and it was only 9pm so they were not about to close. but she didn't have good customer service and she needs to fixed that face when greeting customers in drive thru. read more

We always get BBQ on Thanksgiving but we got our food from Sonnys this year as our usual place has closed. The ribs were dry and tough. The beans were tasteless. The pulled pork was also dry. For as much as we spent, $300, we expected much better. Next year, someplace else. read more

How great is Sonny's??? I love that this place is local. They've sent me a birthday meal coupon every year for the last few years and I've never used it. But this year- I was determined to use it! After a round of golf on a chilly day, I drove over to Sonny's. It was a Friday night and the place was hoppin!! I drove around the parking lot twice to find a spot to park. I thought about getting my meal to go, but then I thought it might get cold on the 25 min drive home. Plus I wanted to see what else I might get aside from the birthday meal. As I approached the door, the gentleman before me held the door for his family and for me! Nice guy! I walked in and they were seating families right away. Being that the place was almost full, I didn't wanna take a whole table so I sat at the bar. Heather, the bartender, was very helpful. She gave me the info on the new menu items, drink specials etc. Apparently it's 2 for 1 on all wine, liquor and beer all day, every day! Heck of a happy hour. I opted for the sweet tea margarita, which is not BOGO. But for $6, it was worth it. I chose the pulled pork on garlic toast with cole slaw and an extra side of Mac n cheese. I don't typically get Mac n cheese cuz I'm always disappointed. Well let me tell you folks. I was NOT disappointed. The cheese sauce stayed cheesy and did not congeal into a blob. The noodles were perfectly done. So good, I ate it all. The pork sandwich was meaty! I didn't eat the bread- since I ate all the Mac n cheese. Gotta choose your carbs folks. (But I did take the bread home to repurpose into breakfast.) I tried all four sauces on the pork. My favorite was the "Smokin'" sauce. Nice touch of heat but really not that hot in comparison to routine hot sauce. The cole slaw was the perfect antidote to the hot spicy pork. Just enough sauce on the slaw but not so much to drown it. Portions were good! I was satisfied. The meal comes with a drink but I didn't want one. Heather offered to send me home with a sweet tea etc but I declined. At the bar there are plenty of TVs. I was watching the LSU v UK gymnastics competition but football was also on. A couple, who are regulars, came in and sat by me. Apparently they frequent every Friday. They mentioned a military discount- awesome. We chatted for about 30 min about life and all things. Nice people. I finished my meal, finished my margarita and took my bread to go. The meal aside from the cocktail and extra side, was free because of the birthday coupon. So if you're not signed up for their reward program- sign up today! Always good to support local business and local people. I posted on my IG and Sonny's wrote me back! Lol. Good company. In the past, I've ordered catering from them for my birthday party and holiday party at work. They do a nice job. I recommend their catering. FYI turkey is gonna fall off the menu for a bit due to nationwide shortages. The turkey wasn't my favorite so don't worry, not a huge loss. read more

Must have lots of good food to keep these old buzzards in Apopka fed every day. This is the entertainment in the Drive Thru line. I tried the appetizer BBQ Pork Egg Rolls ($7.29) for the first time today. Not bad. I love regular Chinese egg rolls and these were just as good. For the main course Iordered the Pick 2 Combo ($13.99) consisting of pulled pork, hot links, seasoned tater tots, corn bread and a baked sweet potato with cinnamon butter. There was enough food for me to split into three meals! I love their pulled pork but I wasn't crazy about the Hot Links. Thank you Ashley B for fast friendly service. read more

Pretty average pulled chicken but good mac and cheese! Fast service and great AC inside

So, we stopped in this afternoon as there was a bbq competition going on in the parking lot. Unfortunately, none of that was available for purchase, so we went inside and got a table. The staff was very friendly. We ordered some cokes and their BBQ Pitmaster bowls. First, the coke machine had been screwed up the night before, so we ended up with Diet Cokes to start with. The bowls were pretty, but mediocre tasting. The flavors just blended together and nothing really stood out. I only ate half of it before I decided I was not happy with it. My son, who loves bbq, didn't finish his either. The building is nice inside, so it's got that going for itself. I would recommend passing on this place and heading to either Porkies in downtown Apopka or any of the 4Rivers locations in town. read more

Always consistent food and the staff at this location is super friendly! One of the two places my elderly parents always want to go to!

Sonny's has good bbq. Point blank. I love to order the chopped beef brisket that includes fatty pieces because you know that the fat has alllllll the flavah. Lol. Love their salad bar option. It has all the fixings that you'd want to go with your bbq. The fried okra is amazing. It comes with long toothpicks so I can douse it in ranch. Also, they have a drive thru so you can get their deliciousness to go! This location has happy hour starting at 4pm on weekdays. I always order their peach tea mule. The peach tea flavor compliments the bitterness of the ginger beer. UPDATE: Happy hour is all day everyday! I repeat ALL DAY ERRRRRR DAY! 2 for 1 drafts, wine, and specialty cocktails. They no longer carry the peach tea mule, but the spiked sweet tea is my new fave!! They also support local schools and hold fundraising events which I always appreciate. The service is always on point and no matter what server I've gotten, they have always aimed to please. Let's talk about sauce because that's what bbq is all about. They have many different flavors on the table. I always choose the sweet and tangy sauce. read more

What can I say about Sonny's? It's consistent, tasty and you get enough food to feed a small nation. We wanted bbq tonight and don't love the bbq that comes tasting like we just drank liquid smoke. We ordered two meals. The 1/2 white meat chicken meal with fries, coke slaw and garlic toast and the chicken and ribs combo. That came with corn, bbq baked beans and garlic toast. I believe you can swap out the sides at your whim, but don't quote me on that. Anyway. The chicken was DRYYYY (but fine with bbq sauce all over it!) and still very tasty. In fact, for delivery, the order was delivered timely and complete. That's half the battle!! Anyway-if you're in the mood for bbq, give them a try! read more

Stopped in on our way to Kelly Park around 1 in the afternoon and the service was really nice! We sat near the bar and the bartender waited on us. My husband and I both ordered the beef brisket; mine was sliced and his chopped. Both sandwiches were incredibly dry and the BBQ sauces didn't do a whole ton to help. The side Mac and cheese was pretty decent and my husband got the coleslaw - he said it was okay, nothing worth noting. read more

First time visit. Very clean and welcoming staff. It had a good feel even in this time of COVID. Proper protocols are taken by the restaurant and staff. Menu is masterful. Filled with standard bbq fare. That's not a cut. It's a compliment. They have made up sells an art. Watch out or your bill will be 30% higher than you thought when you sat down. As a business it's brilliant. The customer controls the experience. The kitchen delivers. We did tatter tots with pulled pork. Then I did the steakburger with corn on the cob. They could spice the meat patty more thoroughly. So I found it a bit bland. The corn was perfect. I recommend giving it a shot again. Fat man approved! read more

Dropped in for an early dinner (or late lunch) around 4PM. The restaurant was not super busy, but did still have a lot of customers this time of day. Service was good. I think we had a new waitress still learning the ropes. Quiet and relaxing atmosphere at this time of day. Food - we ordered our typical meal - hubby got all you can eat sliced pork and I got pick three meats, sliced pork, pulled pork and ribs. The food is why I give a 4 star. After we were served, the waitress let us know there was no additional sliced pork. Needless to say, the sliced pork we received was very dry. You could definitely tell it was the end and there was no moisture in it. I would have liked my meal better if we would have been told before we ordered the sliced pork was out and then we could have changed our menu items versus getting the dried out meat. For my husband, he switched over to chicken for the remainder of his all you can eat. I am not sure of price, but we were charged for the all you can eat pork. Hopefully, this will not happen again. Will I go back - Yes. My husband and I are Sonny's fans and love the smoked meat and sides. I think this may have been a one off, and wanted to share as constructive feedback to the manager about acknowledging what's out at the beginning. read more

My fiancée and I both prefer 4 Rivers Smokehouse or Keller's BBQ in terms of local BBQ flavor in this neighborhood...but this third choice of ours ranks high for their quality service and traditional BBQ meals. Our few visits over the years have always met my expectations in terms of a friendly, organized staff and take-out service. And our experiences here always positive. Our last visit, my partner asked for less fatty brisket and it was replaced in under ten minutes at no extra expense. I enjoy the pulled pork sandwich with the sweet BBQ sauce myself. But a high recommendation for this local BBQ chain with a great family atmosphere and we'll certainly be returning soon to try some appetizers. There's indoor and outdoor dining, and also beer on tap. read more

Very good service. The food was good, above average. You won't go wrong eating here if you want bbq and don't know the area.

The food is usually good it's the service that is subpar. I was just there and placed a to go order when it was ready they did not give me the gallon of tea nor the individual tea I ordered? It seemed like it was an inconvenience for them to go and get what I had already paid for. So to sum it up good food but bad service (sit down service isn't any better and is much slower). read more
