Really bummed with our meals today. I was looking forward to some delicious hangover food after a great night out rocking with my buddies, but today the food was below par at best. We ordered two three piece fish meals with two sides of coleslaw ($10.09 each), the clam strips appetizer ($4.29), and the 5 fried butterfly shrimp ( staff upsold us $1.99). The fish was still good but the pieces are noticeably smaller, the butterfly shrimp and clam strips are mostly breading, not worth the calories. The sides of coleslaw are questionable; it taste like it could be bad but it might be good, is missing the usual sweet flavor and is more bitter, definitely not risking it. Complete waste of four sides. The restaurant is still clean, the atmosphere in the dining area was relaxing and quiet, and the staff were pleasant; however, we took our meals to go, so we didn't realize what we were getting into until we got home and sat down to eat. I might give them a chance again in the future but I'll probably wait until we get a coupon and just go with the Fish, broccoli, and okra, these items haven't let me down yet. read more

We have been coming here for years. The quality use to be good but today we were disappointed with the sides. We got some shrimp and they were very very tiny. We also got fried clam strips but it was mostly just breading. The Fish however is always good. The coleslaw today was missing something it tasted kind of strange. For a fast food place that serves fish and chicken I would be Leary buying food from here again. The chicken tenders seemed like fake chicken and made my wife feel like she was going to die today. Usually a favorite but tonight was a disaster. Catfish was like mush... corn on the cob was way over cooked,. Cole Slaw was warm, not room temperature.. like an oven warm. Chicken was like rubber. So long Captain D's. I will never chance it again. Everything went in the trash and I am gonna dine on a PB&J Sandwich. Forgot to mention. GREAT SERVICE, bland food. I was looking forward to some juicy shrimp, firm flaky fish, and fries. What I got was paper thin shrimp, breaded soggy fish with no flavor at all, and fries that were soft and could have been warmed up from the day before. My recommendation is stick to a glass of water and order some hush puppies - it would be hard to screw those up. Boy. This was a mixed bag. The counter person told someone she had worked there 15 years and it showed. No enthusiasm or love for the job at all. Never heard her say thank you to anyone. I didn't even get a total on my order. She just gave us our drinks and then reached for my credit card. Gotta feel bad for someone who's that beaten down but it's not like she even tried to be welcoming. I guess she did say thanks for coming as we left. The tray our plates were served on was filthy. Two cups stains and food particles. They obviously hadn't washed it but to put someone's food on it seeing it's that dirty?! I felt the need to wash my hands so went to the bathroom. Single room with a typical sink/toilet combo. A sign said to lock the door and someone wrote on the door where the lock was supposed to be but the sliding deadbolt was gone. Anyone could have walked in on me if I was doing more than getting in and out. The food was about what you expect from a place like this. Maybe even a little better. Ordered the fish and shrimp combo through the drive through tonight. When I got home the fish and shrimp were far from crispy almost soggy. I bit into the fish and it was hard and when I looked at it it was red and not cooked fully! Left me feeling sick and a horrible taste. I called and spoke to an employee who said "you can come in tomorrow". No sorry, no anything. I'll never be visiting this particular restaurant again. Me and my husband have always drive by and wanted to try. Well today we did just that and let me tell you it was disappointing. Three pieces of our fish smelled spoiled and one to taste, it was. This place is the reason why I'm a catch and release fisherman. I can't catch fish that taste this good, I can't fry fish that taste this good, and God knows I don't know how to make those magical crunchy things that come with the fish. I don't ever go for any of the "newer" versions of the fish preparations offered here; the traditional batter-fried version is the best. Pair it up with a combo of malt vinegar and tartar sauce and you're eating like a full-fledged barnacle-encrusted pirate! Great coleslaw, mediocre fries, and amazing hushpuppies that you don't even have to ask for! They come with your entrée. I also like that the fishies in the kitchen don't have to compete with tacos, like at some other fast food restaurants. That's just weird. read more

All of my British Expat pals say that Captain D's most closely resembles the fish and chips they miss so much from home. The classic batter dipped fish is my favorite. Totally tender, moist whitefish enveloped in crunchy, dense, perfectly seasoned batter. Soooo good. Love their hush puppies and fried shrimp, too. And they make one of my favorite tartar sauces here. Always loads of specials/promos/coupons to be found. Great iced tea. They try to rock the healthy stuff, too, offering wild Alaskan salmon, steamed Tilapia, steamed veggies, salads. I usually get my food to go here, but inside is OK. A little awkwardly laid out for my disabled self, a bit old and dingy, but still clean. Came with family (older relatives), I honestly can't remember how long it's been since I've been to Captain D's. But couldn't disagree more with the post complaining about the crew...these guys went above and beyond in multiple ways. They were all quite young, some even said they had just started there so maybe they've got new staff. They got our complicated order exactly right, brought the order right to our table and made sure we had everything we needed or they'd grab it for us. Checked on us multiple times as if we were eating at a sit down restaurant! These people deserve a raise! Best seafood in Orlando... I don't think that's saying much hahahahah! Seriously I get the southern style whitefish and its always good. Honestly its better than 99% of any other fried seafood so I really don't bother with fancy seafood anymore. The Sanford location is really good and I suggest anyone try it. I ate here for the first time and let me start by saying I hate pollock fish I just don't like the taste but this place is great! While I didn't get the pollock I did get the fried catfish and it was great! We had a bit of wait for a fast food place but it was fine because the food is made to order. While the going man picking up the trays and wiping them diem was courteous and proper, the cashier, a fairly older lady had a nasty attitude and a disgusting habit. No eye contact, looks away, and the worse she placed a dirty tray on top on my salad as a we e were waiting for our food, some Leicester got stuck on the tay when she realized what she had done and removed it, then after handling money at the cash registry she scraped the lettuce off and put it back in my salad biowl!!! Iasked her politely to change it and she did not look at me and yelled rudely for someone to change the salad. No apologies. Needless to say I threw it away and will never come back to that place.
