Most of the employees at this SONIC are excellent. They are warm, attentive, funny, and genuinely good at creating the kind of neighborhood-restaurant atmosphere that makes people want to return. Unfortunately, that talent seems to disappear whenever Assistant Manager Jasmine is in charge. My dog, Hazel, and I live nearby, and stopping here became part of our nightly walking routine. Months ago, the general manager, Reeva, met Hazel, brought her a small pup cup, and told me Hazel could have one whenever we visited. The staff embraced the tradition. Hazel learned the route, dragged all 94 pounds of herself toward SONIC every night, sat at the same table, and waited excitedly for employees she had grown to love. Sometimes I ordered food or a Dr. Pepper, but most nights we stopped briefly for Hazel's pup cup. Nearly every employee treated Hazel with extraordinary kindness. They greeted her, asked her to perform tricks, and took time to earn her trust. That is what excellent hospitality looks like. Jasmine's approach could not be more different. When she supervises, the atmosphere changes. Employees who are normally friendly become distant, and Hazel and I have been ignored while sitting at our usual table, even when the restaurant was nearly empty. On the evening that prompted this review, Hazel and I sat outside at our regular table for about twenty minutes. The restaurant was quiet, employees knew we were there, and no one acknowledged us. I eventually flagged down an employee and was told that nothing would be provided without payment. I asked to speak with Jasmine--not to demand anything for free, but simply to understand why a months-long arrangement had suddenly changed. Jasmine came outside with a curt, dismissive, and openly rude tone. She told me I would have to pay going forward, said she had spoken with Reeva, and added that Reeva was going to "have a talk" with me. I explained that I was not refusing to pay and only wanted to understand what had changed. While I was still speaking, Jasmine turned her back and started walking inside. When I tried to finish the conversation, she said she had already repeated herself and accused me of expecting "everything for free." This was never about the price of whipped cream. I had already paid when asked. It was about being treated with basic dignity. Hazel did not understand why familiar employees were ignoring her or why the routine she loved had suddenly become tense and uncomfortable. She sat waiting at the table, excited at first, then visibly confused and disappointed. Watching that happen over something so small made Jasmine's hostility seem even more unnecessary. Jasmine has virtually no people skills and would not recognize a positive guest experience if it were a bowling ball sitting in front of her. The restaurant is full of employees with the talent and personality to make this a genuine neighborhood gathering place, but that energy seems suppressed when management authority is exercised through rudeness, intimidation, and contempt for a customer asking a reasonable question. It is also difficult to ignore that Jasmine is the general manager's daughter. Family members can certainly work together successfully, but when an assistant manager behaves this poorly and appears insulated from accountability because her mother runs the store, it creates the appearance of nepotism and undermines confidence that complaints will be reviewed objectively. The other employees deserve better leadership. Customers deserve better treatment. And Hazel deserved better than having a joyful nightly ritual turned into an embarrassing lesson in how one rude manager can poison an otherwise welcoming place. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. Currently awaiting a call back from corporate. I will be escalating the situation as much as possible, it is clear but the most recent months reviews that this location is in dire need of a corporate quality control inspection, retraining from the very top to the bottom and especially a visit from Pima health department. I have disturbing video of the "manager" (self proclaimed) Sean/Shawn. Doesn't wear a name tag and will aggressively not tell you his name when asked in order to report him. But he will boast he is the manager. I would be embarrassed to say so, as this location clearly is in dire need of leadership. After all that, the food was not correct or even worth the money or horrible customer service experience. So many better burger places with much higher standards of service. I always have a rough time here from waiting forever even after placing mobile orders ahead of time to tonight where they made me different red drinks first a cherry limeade then some sort of red ice cream drink and kept swearing it was correct when I ordered a limeade slush and kept telling them it should be green. They also didn't mention being out of whipped cream (I ordered the pup whip cream cup) and they brought me ice cream. Finally I asked to talk to someone else and when I asked what was in the ticket he said he didn't know but then brought me the right drink when I showed my order. read more

OK, really a 3.5. I love how their milkshakes are half price after 8:00--all 25 flavors of them! And they make a pretty mean shake. I can down a lot of ice cream, but the medium size shake is PLENTY, believe me. Two medium shakes after 8 will cost you a mere $3.65 with tax--not bad. Here's a tip, though--tell them to skip the whip cream and cherry (unless you like it, of course). I'm just a purist. Even though the whip cream seems like real cream, it just gets in the way of the milkshake's flavor. I guess I'm a purist. But seems like anyone who makes a premium milkshake (with real ice cream) like Zinburger, Chick-fil-A, even Jack-in-the-Box puts the whip cream on top. Don't forget their happy hour, either, between 2:00 and 4:00 when pop, lemon/limeades, and slushies are half price and they have special 99¢ Happy Hour snacks. I like their specialty dogs like the chili cheese, Coney Island, and the Chicago Dog. Not bad, not bad. Would rather have a Sonoran from Ruiz's, but hey. Good onion rings and tater tots, too. Burgers aren't bad but not my favorite, either. Again, not bad. Just a tad pricey, I think. I like their burgers, though. We pulled through this Sonic the other day and was appalled by the lackadaisical use of COVID PPE. All employees that we saw had their masks below their noses and one employee had a mask dangling from their ear, not covering their face at all. Makes me concerned about what other health, safety, cleanliness they are slacking on. Management can thank a carhop for saving them from a one-star review. We stopped by today for lunch. The person taking orders had no clue what they were doing. We ordered a cheeseburger with tater tots and a raspberry tea, a Route 44 Ocean Water, large fry and a small onion rings. We were told they didn't have Route 44 drinks. I don't think the person taking orders knew that was a size. Then he put Hi-C with cherry on the screen. I told him it was an iced tea with raspberry. This went on for a while as he removed and added things to the order. When the order arrives we have two teas, neither with raspberry, a large ocean water, a cheeseburger and medium fries. The very nice carhop fixed the order. Undoubtedly, management had put someone who was in training on the window without any backup. If it hadn't been for her this would have been one star. There is no reason to set up a new employee for failure and customers for frustration Update the last couple times I've been here they seem to be out of something. Again, hesitant to make a chain burger place my first Tucson Burger review. I guess proximity is the mother of my yelp reviews. Did I mention how close this place is? Within walking/biking distance of two or three major intersections and catering mostly to a neighborhood clientele, this is a very solid fast food joint. Let's talk the positives. If this were based solely on this particular Sonic's milkshakes, this would be a 4.5 star rating. Try as many as you can, especially since they are half off this summer. Plus the ocean water. Gosh that stuffs good. Now the burgers are interesting. For the price, the Sonic value double cheeseburger (my go to for judging purposes at all drive thru burger joints) is quite good. The problem is I've been there at least 5 times and have not had the same ingredients put on ever. Little things like pickles will or won't be there. Same with mustard and mayo. And lettuce. Because of this I can't give the burger a grade higher then 2. Consistency guys! All in all, this Sonic is solid. Not great but good. And walkable. And half off shakes all summer. Would give zero stars if possible. This is my first review of a restaurant but I just had to feel like I needed to write this. First off, the location is terrible, mosquitoes, flies, ants everywhere. Second, I ordered and waited for 30 minutes and when I asked them about the order, they hadn't even started on it, while other customers orders were being made. A couple ordered 15 mins after me and got their order right away while I was waiting. On top of that, 10 mins later the manager lets me know that the waiter I ordered from gave my order to someone else. No apology was made as I waited for almost 45 mins for my food. I work for postmates. I used the car side service and waiting 10-15 minutes for an order that is supposed to be delivered with fast service is a little ridiculous. I was told "your order is on its way out" only to receive my drinks about 5 mins after my food was supposed to be there. I have worked in fast food and customer service and I know this is bad service. My job depends on the staff of establishments to do their job in a timely manner. The slowest service I've ever received from a sonic. Happens every single visit too. Drive thru has been closed for months. I wait in my car and see multiple workers going outside to talk to cars that pull up for them. Every time I order ONE drink and wait close to 10 min. Orders are wrong sometimes. If you like slushes, cherry limeade, or flavored cola, you should come to Sonic between 2-4 pm for Happy Hour which is when drinks are half price. The foot long dogs seem to taste worse and worse which tends to happen when you are in Tucson, the land of the hot dog. The cheese, chili, dog, and bun seem to be made from the cheapest fillers you could find. The grilled chicken sandwich and the breakfast burritos are alright for some place in the middle of nowhere, but with so many other options, why would you stop here? Just the tots and the drinks! I have been to this place many times and this time was the last straw! My friend asked for a family size pop corn chicken and to separate them in half but the manger said no! We were like what why because they had done it before and were happy to do that for the costomer!
