Delicious banh mi sandwiches, but I was very turned off by the insanely overwhelming smell of cigarettes and smoke from the 15 older men smoking outside gambling and playing cards. They had all their doors open so that the entire place could be filled with the disgusting smell of cigarettes and I can't help but think that all of this second hand smoke gets into all their food. I guess these men are locals and come here regularly to smoke and gamble, but I couldn't stand it. read more

The name had been around since little Saigon started but this one was added about 2 decades ago, mainly for to go or quick fast food place. Now it's more of seniors hangout for games or lottery with cheap decent coffee and they have outdoor patio overlooking GG street. You can heard the seniors loud conversation or being excited due to game of chess or checkers when you drove by (stopped for red light). The parking can be a hassle since it in a popular stores complex but they do have side parking so it can be okey. There are 2 bus stops on each side of street so most took the bus or walking from their place. Service is okey, not the nicest nor the worst but just what can I get you and okey next! This place is also well known for lottery since they won alot of small or medium prices both for scratcher & lottery. Plenty of decent foods, not great but not the worth, and okey prices. Got the sandwich and the bread is good, crunchy and soft inside...meats are okey. Big portion and very filling. Coffee is okey too. It's not too sweet and it is airy and have coconutty flavor, which I enjoy them so much. They also have grab and go papaya salad, buns, spring rolls, sausages, snacks, drinks, etc., which someday I would like try. The owners are very friendly and they try to assist you with your needs even though they don't speak perfect English. The restaurant is quite spacious and there are outdoor seats as well. People just came up handed her money and waited while she would make the sandwiches, handle the $$, then immediately go back to the sandwiches. No hand washing in between or anything. To top it all off, we literally watched her cough into our sandwiches while preparing them with her tongue curled out and everything. I only really stop here to grab breakfast and a Vietnamese iced coffee after waking up at the crack of dawn to fill up my tank at the Costco Gas next door (which opens up at 0530). This restaurant's posted hours says it opens at 0530 as well, but usually the doors are locked until closer to 0600. I typically get their Vietnamese iced coffee, which is strong and creamy - not overly sweet like some other places. I also pick up a serving of their xoi mang - sweet/savory steamed rice topped with chinese sausage (lap xuong), seasoned and shredded chicken. Despite getting it "fresh", sometimes when I get to work and finally dig in, I find the rice to be dry. Their Viet iced coffee holds its flavor well - even after an hour. Cash only. If you get there a little later in the morning, their entire patio is usually filled with patrons that smoke and play lotto (there's a few machines here suggesting that it's a popular place to get a ticket - if you're feeling lucky). Parking is in its own plaza, along the side of the cafe, and I guess the lot that anchors Office Depot. Never had an issue finding parking. read more

Excellent milk coffee: 10/10. Will go back for just this ASAP. TRIED THE #3 (pork) and the #9 (veggie). Both were nicely spicy with chopped jalapeños. The veggie option was delicious with some kind of well- flavored, juicy meat substitute. Skip the milk tea. Boba is hard and the tea is too creamy (I didn't think this was possible before). The best part is the lively, peaceful, playful open-air patio atmosphere. The traffic is not as noisy as you would expect. It is actually a lovely place to sip milk ice coffee any time of day. My mom and decided to try this bakery and coffee shop out since it was conveniently located next to the market that we had visited. The food and coffee was average, not terrible but not memorable either. I ordered the bbq pork sandwich and a Vietnamese ice coffee. My mom got a baguette, spring rolls and an ice coffee. The food did its job as we were both hungry but nothing memorable. I felt that the sandwich was a bit small compared to other similar places. I would go here again out of convenience but would definitely not go out of my way to drive here. Song Long Bakery and Cafe, just next to the Starbucks, struck a chord with me. This unassuming establishment in the Dalat Market plaza has a charm all its own. The older Vietnamese men smoking cigarettes outside at 8am and playing games and chatting it up reminded me of being almost anywhere in Vietnam early in the morning while the streets are still cool, the roosters are crowing, and the buzz of the cities is just revving up. Inside Song Long you can smell the fresh bread baking and see the quick-moving line of people grabbing lunch or breakfast before they speed off to greet the day. On the counter they have spring rolls -both pork and shrimp- which are loaded with fresh veggies and herbs like Vietnamese basil and mint as well as several sticky rice offerings which are usually topped with some type of shredded meat (I am addicted to sticky rice). The vermicelli boxes are packed and look delish but I have not tried them yet. To the right of the counter they have the savory pies which are either chicken or pork and always quite good (another food that clearly has French roots but has been perfected by the Vietnamese). Above and behind the counter is the banh mi menu complete with descriptions and numbers to make ordering a piece of cake if you're worried about your pronunciation. Before you close your order out I would highly recommend you get at least a couple dollars worth of their sesame balls. They were rushing to close and go home, when I came. Asked for a Bbq Bahn Mi. It said $3.50 on menu, but charged $4 cuz that's how much it's priced on their systems. They need to make sure that's updated on the picture menu then.. Drinks were closed off with tables, so I didn't bother to get a drink. And whenever I asked a lady a question who was supposedly helping me, she would short answer and rush away to whatever else she can do instead of attending to me as a customer until I left. I drove by Song Long, Euclid this morning just to confirm what happened to the Bolsa Location. They confirmed it was closed. I will miss Song Long Bolsa. So Long Song Long! I only ordered the Cafe Sua Da at this locations. It was ok. For some reason it did not taste like I remember the Bolsa location tasted, but it was good. The cost was a straight 2 bucks. The staff was very nice and we had a conversation for at least 15 minutes about the old place. The inside could use a little updating. Also it would be great if they added an outside table or two so you can take 15 minutes to enjoy your coffee or a pastry. This location is very close off of the 22. I will keep it on my list for Cafe Sua Da spots, but do miss the other location dearly. read more

I came here on a Tuesday evening after getting gas from Costco. This is my first visit and I was nervous with the reviews. The place is messy and on the dirty side. Men sitting at the table, playing some board game. Scratchers and Lotto is big here, too. I was hungry! Starving! I ordered 4 egg rolls ($0.50 each), bun Bo hue $8.50 and bun Rieu $8.00 to go. Great hole in the wall banh mi restaurant! We got the special banh mi and grilled pork banh mi. The order was quick and was only $7 at $3.50 per banh mi. Both were very good and much better than Lee's Sandwiches. There was an ample amount of meat and veggies in both. I saw that they also had smoothies and other Vietnamese soups such as bun bo hue. They also have those ready to go rice and meat small trays. The restaurant is a little run down but pretty typical for smaller Vietnamese shops. It's the food that matters anyways. I like the photos that Yelpers posted. I extracted the positive info on the food and decided to try the beef stew for quick lunch. I have come by before just for the fresh baguettes and iced coffees - very quick in & out. Today - It's hot out and after a few "buy this & that" runs, need a bite. I was going to grab a sandwich and go but since there is no late lunch crowd, it's a good time for me to sit down for a bowl of soup. It's a tiny place like many donuts shop with a small gathering of old men having coffee at an outside table swapping war stories, I suspect. My simple beef stew with fresh bread came steamy. It was proportion size for their Vietnamese clientele or for a lite eater like me. Plus the price was right - $6. There were 15 items on that lite lunch menu - all less than $7. Look at the other pics - the place is jammed with goodies both sweets & savories for grab & good. After a long day of traveling I was famished! Also, I had a hankering for a Vietnamese sandwich, yelped in my area and this is what came up. The pictures looked decent... So I thought, why not? This cafe/ sandwich shop isn't a very nice one. Small tables, most of which are taken up by regulars not eating, NO A/C, overpriced for little amounts of food, and the boba is over cooked (yuck). I don't eat sandwiches very often, but when I do, I prefer it to be a banh mi. I love the fresh bread and the flavor of the Bbq pork. I can usually make 2 meals out of one sandwich, they are almost always so large. Not here. Small sandwiches for 3.50 a piece. So not worth it. Same deal with their spring rolls. Overpriced. My biggest gripe was the boba. It wasn't gelatinous. It was slimey and falling apart in my drink. Like it had been over cooked or maybe it was old. I pass by this place all the time and there is typically a bunch of old Vietnamese guys sitting in front smoking and having coffee. Although I can't hear (and to a degree understand) their conversation I'm sure they are reciting the same old stories about their glory years. If you're Vietnamese, listening to old disgruntled Vietnmaese geezers talk is one of the most obnoxious things there is. They are worse then women when it comes to bitching and complaining about "the man" and how shitty the world is. The lady gave us the wrong sandwich order and we ordered 2 #11 not #1. She was arguing with us for a bit and took it back. After we got it back, she only switched 1 out. Only came here once and will NEVER COME BACK. Gf and I ordered two banh mis and the woman servicing us coughed into our orders. Right in front of us. No signs of remorse. Pros: The sandwiches were good. Authentic vietnamese sandwiches from what I could tell. Cons: The customer service is horrible. Most likely better if you're vietnamese and fluent, but english is nonexistent in this shop. Not only that, but their attitude completely pissed me off. No one helped me for a solid 20 minutes despite there being nobody else there. No one behind the counter and someone yelling at me from the seats to wait 5 minutes while a group took a picture or something. Even afterwards I had to struggle to put in an order and leave. I'm not a fan of their Banh Mi sandwiches, although they have stellar bread the fillings aren't up to par to make it complete. I would avoid their Banh Mi's here as there are better options in Little Saigon. However I would steer you to their fresh baked bread. It's cheap and fresh, but your own bread take it home and you will be a happy camper. They do serve other dishes, such as Chao (porridge) but again this spot would be your go to just get bread and Vietnamese coffee. Be ware of the congregating old men on the patio.
